I've been waiting for Arvid to meet alternative-Arvid.

  • Feb. 3, 2012, 12:28 a.m. CST

    by gotilk

    I mean Astrid. lol

  • It's almost as if alt-Astrid has a little of Walter in her. I bet they hit it off really well. I'm really maybe a little bit over-excited about this. Such a fanboy right now.

  • Feb. 3, 2012, 1:22 a.m. CST

    I also can't wait!

An Astrid centric episode during sweeps ?

    by dj_bollocks

Oh dear this doesn't bode well...

  • into a cyborg that lacks human emotion.

  • Feb. 3, 2012, 6:19 a.m. CST

    The beginning of this...

    by BangoSkank

season of Fringe left me cold, but the last four episodes have more than made up for them. I've also wondered about Astrid, so maybe this episode will give us some insight into the drastic difference between her different personalities...

  • Feb. 3, 2012, 6:50 a.m. CST

    My guess is that alt-Astrid

    by gotilk

simply had different opportunities than our Astrid did. I bet the difference in their lives/paths will be very, very small. Even insignificant.

  • An episode of Fringe without Astroid is like a day without sunshine.

  • Feb. 3, 2012, 8:07 a.m. CST

Astrid ( or whatever her name is this week :-)

    by pumaman

Soooo pumped for this episode! Please if there is a GOD out there. Let Fringe go on and on for a few more years. The show has been a revelation from day 1. I was happy after watching the new Spartacus ( granted the new guy is no match for Andy Whitfield, not even close ) but, the story-line's, gore and action on that show ,as well as the nudity more than make up for it. I'm sure he'll be great once everyone gets used to him in the lead. I wonder when Gannicus ( the lead in Gods of the Arena ) will make an appearance?

    by Himbo

Or as Michael Scott would call her "Assturd". As for Supernatural, I really hope this surpasses the Elliott Ness episode, which I found wanting.

  • Feb. 3, 2012, 8:47 a.m. CST

The Ellitott Ness Supernat episode was actually pretty fun.

    by Shermdawg

I wish it had been a multi-episode arc though, and not so neatly wrapped up. Dean getting stuck in the past for a long stretch of time would've been interesting, certainly more so than this Leviathan bullshit.

  • Feb. 3, 2012, 8:47 a.m. CST

Also, expect Gold Rush to win tonight.

    by Shermdawg

Gramps is gonna have a heart attack. :(

i know the series hasn't been good for 2 seasons and yet, i find myself missing chuck already. guess at some point this year on in the next year, i'll have to revisit season 1-3 of chuck via netflix or dvd.

    As usual

    by Michael Lunney

Looking forward to tonight's Fringe and Bill Maher. As well as another Alfred Hitchcock Hour on Encore. Love the old dramas, they were so well done.

  • Feb. 3, 2012, 10:02 a.m. CST

After a glorious return , I really am missing from this talkback today

    by Michael Lunney

talking about Bill Maher. Of course, the glorious return was from me. Just kidding.

  • Feb. 3, 2012, 10:46 a.m. CST

    Fringe is improving...

    by TaisonX

I wasn't as down on the beginning of this season as some people but it definitely had it's faults. I'm really glad though it's starting to pick back up a little bit. Also nice to see a tiny uptick in the numbers, as small as it may be...just didn't want to see it drop any lower.

  • I was turned off of Fringe by its first season. I couldn't stand the neurotic Walter character. He was so annoying. There seems to be a ton of love for Fringe on these talkbacks. But, there's also been a fair amount of complaints too, which leads me to believe that the show has had an uneven run in terms of quality. Of course, I've followed the recommendations of talkbackers concerning other shows such as Firefly and, most recently, Archer. Those recommendations did not pan out. If Fringe really is a great show, I'd hate to have missed it. Good quality sci-fi is rare on tv.

  • Feb. 3, 2012, 11:41 a.m. CST

Alt-Astrid is different because this version was born with some sort of disease

    by room23storeblogspotcom

Can't remember what it is, but aparantly its a real thing that makes her that way, the actress talked about it at the last Comic-Con panel.

  • Feb. 3, 2012, 11:48 a.m. CST

    Fringe love

    by Michael Lunney

Anyone who doesn't like this show must be emotionally maladjusted, immature, intellectually deficient, and probably still lives at home with his or her parents. Or they just don't know quality science fiction when they see it.

  • Feb. 3, 2012, 12:41 p.m. CST

Fring and Sci-Fi as a whole

    by chad kuhns

I'm a self admitted Fringe lover, as well as a big time proponent of sci-fi in general, but I can see why not everyone is in to the show or the genre. I can also see why Fringe may have lost some folks along the way. If you ever gave up on the show, or just haven't given it a shot..there is no time like the present. If that doesn't work for ya, hey there is always Doctor Who (another awesome sci-fi mainstay)

  • ...and deliberately misinform his minute fan base or just outright lie. u know, just a typical Bill Maher show. BTW- when he offends someone or a large number of "someones", he will cowardly hide behind the "but, im a comedian!" excuse. sad part is, u hypocritical idiot fans LAP it up. so sad....

  • Feb. 3, 2012, 12:53 p.m. CST

    by Michael Morehead

Jasika Nicole, the actress who plays Astrid, said that Alt-Astrid has aspergers.

  • Feb. 3, 2012, 12:56 p.m. CST

    by Michael Lunney

Since you obviously don't watch the show, your opinion is as valuable as a penny to Mitty Romney. Fucking idiot. Oh, on the possibility you may actually watch the show, give me a lie he has said that you didn't have to google to find. Asshole.

  • Feb. 3, 2012, 1:07 p.m. CST

    by Michael Lunney

WE share a lot in common, it seems. If you are not into Fringe or science fiction as a genre, honestly, you'd have to be a drooling brain damaged moron to not derive even a hint of entertainment from those shows. How can anyone with a modicum of brain function and common sense bear watching such intelligent alternatives to shlock liek Supernatural? I am appalled by the viewing habits of some people. ______________________________ I hope you are also appalled by my regurgitaion, paraphrasing if you will, of a certain master baiter that has recently returned here. Although I am, indeed, an avid lover of Fringe and SF as a genre, those are not my words or thoughts. I think you get my drift.

  • I see ratings were up slightly, but I doubt it's significant enough to change FOX's mind regarding the show. Even if this does turn out to be its last season, FOX would likely finish it out with the regular 22 or so eps, right?

  • Feb. 3, 2012, 2:08 p.m. CST

It's a long way from Fringe to Doctor Who.

    by cookylamoo

Although John Noble would make a good Doctor.

  • Feb. 3, 2012, 2:12 p.m. CST

    by Michael Lunney

That's the best suggestion I have heard in quite a long time!!!! The younger Dr. Who gets, the less interesting the character becomes. Noble indeed!! And he can adjust his Aussie accent to Brit...

  • Feb. 3, 2012, 2:32 p.m. CST

    by room23storeblogspotcom

Thanks I wanted to say it was that , but couldn't quite remember.

  • Feb. 3, 2012, 2:39 p.m. CST

    by Michael Morehead

No problem. I love Fringe. I keep hoping we get a 5th season. The acting is incredible week in and week out. John Noble is the fucking man. He sets the bar high. Lincoln has been outstanding as well and Torv has been more consistent this season. It really is a show that keeps getting better. And this episode just looks incredible! People will be demanding more Astrid after tonight! Speaking of aspergers, anybody see the South Park episode where Cartman tries to fake aspergers? I believe it aired last fall. It was great. Hilarious.

  • Feb. 3, 2012, 3:26 p.m. CST

Looking forward to the Asterisk-centric Fringe.

    by BrannigansLaw

Despite what some of you say, it has been very good this season.

  • Feb. 3, 2012, 3:30 p.m. CST

    by room23storeblogspotcom

Totally agree about the great acting, why Nobles has not recieved an Emmy for every season is criminal. And as for Asbergers, Glee (yes I do watch that) also has an Asbergers character who is totally annoying, Nothing compared to the greatness of Alt-Astrid.

Oh, my didactic diva. It's nice to see that certain posters here are finally starting to see the light. You are starting to get through to their thick skulls. I know they fear women and books but it seems they finally picked up a dictionary and started imitating you. Good for them. They can imitate you, but never duplicate you. Kudos to you for being the unselfish authority of education that you are. Life is even more beautiful with your presence in it.

by jay2517, if only hypocritical idiots like urself would do the same to shows and news channels u claim promote racism and misinformation. anyway, heres a lie that just so happened on last weeks show- the liar Maher lied about the debt increase under Obama. the liar Maher said it has only increased 1.5 trillion dollars since Obama took over. its increased 4.6 trillion. happy now, fuckface :) "Oh, on the possibility you may actually watch the show, give me a lie he has said that you didn't have to google to find." W-O-W. thats very big of u to actually admit hes a liar and his lies are easy to google. like i said, so sad. BTW- funny how u didnt defend Mahers misogyny, distortion of facts and constant insulting of people who he disagrees with ie over half the U.S. population. nice, typical progressive deflection...

Doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to see that we have two distinct dual talkbackers (aka alt accounts ). I just got done watching the DVR of tonight's Fringe, and decided to pop on over to see what people thought of their favorite shows tonight. Low and behold, much to my surprise it is more of the same. To our alt account friends, and I'm sure I'm not the only one that realizes just which of you if really is, thank you for the continued entertainment on this forum. You'r sycophant banter and lack of depth in every facet of the days conversations brings me much laughter. To all the other talkbackers, hope you enjoyed your nights viewings. What did you all think of Fringe tonight?

I agree 100% that the show isn't for everyone, but it is fantastic television.

Fringe - Invasion of the Doppelgangers

    by abe

This is so fantastic. It's too bad this kind of quality writing is so rare these days. It's makes you savor it like BOlivia's mints.

  • Feb. 4, 2012, 12:31 a.m. CST

Man such an awesome episode of Fringe!!!!!!

    by room23storeblogspotcom

They really used Alt-Astrid well to work out a lot of different character conflicts to the surface to deal with them. Walters realationshio with Peter, Walter with Astrid, Walter with Bolivia, etc! Plus the major revelation as to how the Observers have been able to predict the future and how September was able to repeat Peter during their run in in season 1. The only thing that bugged me was if Olivia and Peter knew about the Observers device why didn't they ransack the house after the shooting which would help them to be a step closer to figuring out who the Observers were. It should be interesting to see what happens to September now that they know that he didn't erase Peter. I thought sure that he got shot because they found out, but I guess that it was someone else.?!.?!

  • Feb. 4, 2012, 12:58 a.m. CST

I take it all back - Fringe was fantastic...

    by dj_bollocks

That's the Fringe I love - not too much on the technobabble but some great writing, characterization and acting. Kudos, Praise where it's deserved !

    I love Fringe, but...

    by monolithik

I just don't see a fifth season happening. It's a great show, but an odd one that gets harder for newbies to jump into every week. Season 4 itself was already a television miracle. For the Fringe virgins or those who passed on it after the first few episodes, it most definitely is a difficult show that requires you to trust in it fully, even when it goes off in crazy, frustrating directions -- it meanders more than any sci-fi show I've ever seen, so if you're more of a destination guy/girl and less so an enjoy the journey type, this is not for you at all. I have, initially, hated many directions they've taken - Forgetting completely about the pattern, Bellivia, erasing Peter, etc... but every damn time they've managed to pull through and turn it into something pretty awesome, unexpected and moving. I won't say it's brilliant writing until the story is done, but that it expects you to have faith in the storytelling when it goes weird - or that it expects anything of you at all - is refreshing amidst a tv landscape of color-by-numbers canned laughter or cop procedurals. Still... I don't have it in me to wish for another season. Here's hoping they make the most of what they've got.

Or did Alterno-Astrid's Asbergers come out of left field. I know they have always portrayed Alterno-Astrid as a walking odds book and a lot more serious than Astrid, but I guess I always thought she was getting the info from a computer. I guess they never gave her enough screen time to show that she definitely had Asbergers or another personality disorder. Or maybe I am just not paying attention enough. I think the episode was pretty good, but it took me a while to get used to this.

  • Feb. 4, 2012, 12:59 p.m. CST

    Maybe I'm a freak, but

    by room23storeblogspotcom

it was always clear to me that Astrid was coming up with all of the info on her own. I think that it was a little clearer though because she had different types of people to interact with who didn't take her for granted.

Last night's Fringe ep really hit home for me

    by Nasty In The Pasty

As someone who has Asperger's myself, the idea of an "Aspie" like Aspergerstrid (which is her official name, dammit, like Fauxlivia or Walternate) meeting their "normal" doppelganger from an alternate dimension and asking what it's like to be that way was very affecting. I wish like hell I could have been born "normal" instead of being so crippled with shyness and obsessive tics that I've never had a girlfriend or proper social skills. Jasika Nicole plays both sides of the Astrid coin beautifully. And if you really knew someone with Asperger's, you might not break out the simplistic "robotic" description so casually. We *do* have emotions, just not the ability to express those emotions in a way "normal" people are able to.

    Actually jay2517

    by solvseus

Maher was correct on this point. The debt has increased, but Obama's policies can only be blamed for part of it. The continuation of the wars that Bush kept off the books for the most part, the upper income tax cuts that Obama extended as part of a compromise with the GOP but wants to get rid of, and a few other things built into the budget that he has no control over. If we discount those things, his actual budgetary contribution is smaller. Had you been paying attention if you were watching, that was his counter point to the conservative trying to blame it all on Obama, which would not be technically accurate. Not that he's always right, no, but most of the opinion pundits (which he is) are like that. It's when the actual news people and politicians who should know better get something wrong, let alone outright lie, that's the problem. A left leaning comedian who's talking with someone from the other side (and a DJ) is someone I know I am comfortable to often disagree with. Same with Stewart, although he is much more focused on comedy, yet still more trustworthy IMO. If you or anyone is watching without taking everything said with a grain of salt, you're not doing it right.

    i also have aspergers (self-diagnosis)

    by yourSTEPDADDY

but I find that Asptrid having aspergers kinda dumb since everything involving the 2 verses (or more) pretty much has the exact same shit (maybe color differences involving Green/Red Arrow and Olivia's hair) but I think its dumb how there is no real reaosn why Asptrid has aspergers now, the episode was very good (and she should be nominated for something... never felt so moved by an unemotional tear) but i was expecting an explanation as to why the two Astrids are different also... it mightve been more effective if Astrids dad was as robotic as Asptrid... PS: episode was funny also PPS: no Dark Knight jokes in here? PPPS: no mention of stereotyping Asians as mathematical geniuses?

  • Feb. 5, 2012, 12:13 a.m. CST

regarding the Observer who was shot

    by yourSTEPDADDY

"We" already seen it, but it would be really cool if he (September?) got shot in the "future" episodes but still was affected in the "past" episode at the opera house basically Im saying, we all know Observers can "see/sense" time all at once, but what about the actual physical ramifications? like what if physical stuff that occurs to them in the "future" can affect them in the "past" ie. punching an Observer in our 2012 but he feels the impact of the punch in 1922 PS: shit I just said probably made no sense...

  • Feb. 5, 2012, 12:14 a.m. CST

also... the Observer being apart of the signing of Declaration painting

    by yourSTEPDADDY

is stupid... either everyone in that room/courthouse stood still to let the artist paint them (including the Observer) or thes artist has such a great memory but lacked the comprehension to realize there is a bald dude wearing futuristic clothing... its stupid. sure, Observers could be at the event, but having his portrait painted too? its stupid PS: no cavemen paintings of Observers rocking 3 piece suits?

  • Feb. 5, 2012, 7:53 a.m. CST

yourstepdaddy, re: why does Alt Astrid have Asperger's

    by Nasty In The Pasty

I'm a bit cloudy on that as well. Maybe her family tree is slightly different from "our" Astrid, which is why she was born with autism and Astrid wasn't. Or maybe in the other universe, all of the Fringe events involving cracks in reality or whatever caused her to manifest Asperger's at a young age (hell, it's science fiction we're talking about here).

  • Feb. 5, 2012, 9:54 a.m. CST

    by theGoldbergV

yeah couldn't agree more about the Observers in the paintings. That episode (can't remember which series it was in) where they found all those observer sightings throughout history was stupid. Thats the thing with the Observers, the more we find out about them the less interesting they are. I guess thats JJ Abrams storytelling in a nutshell though This episode was pretty good but Fringe this year has just killed all the forward momentum it acrued in years 1-3. Its gone from being must-see television to watching out of habit and more in hope than expectation. Shame really. Hope it at least ends strongly.

  • Nor would he ever admit so. Absolutely typical of the GOP/Conservative who refuses to look beyond the left/right paradigm. Nobody here is saying that "everything" is Bush's fault. That's yet another meme started by shills like you who refuse to accept what your former President and party did to this country. (Hell, they're still fucking the nation over!) I don't agree with everything that Obama has done but nearly everything he's managed (TARP, the auto bailout, the stimulus) has kept the nation from falling into a far worse depression. One brought about by the callous and reckless policies of the former Administration. And hey, guess what? All the indicators seem to show that things are on the move and looking up. (That is, of course, if the GOP doesn't continue to try and sabotage it in the months leading up to the election...) That is a fucking fact. F-A-C-T. FACT. It's obvious that those of your ilk continue to deny this truth so that you may simply belittle a man with a "D" in front of his name. It shows just how intellectually dishonest you truly are. Oh, the epistemic closure is tres magnific!

BTW - You clearly have a man-love crush on Bill Maher.

    by Mr. Nice Gaius

I've never seen one so obsessed by someone he claims to loath. Oh, you doth protest too much.

Forgot to come back and say how impressed I was with

    by gotilk

Aspercreme's performance. She was THE BEST! By the time he'd said her name twice incorrectly and THEN called alt-Astrid Astrid... I was rolling... literally rolling on the floor laughing. That episode was moving, powerful, but it was also a real leg-slapper.

gaius- u fail to comprehend my facts, yet again...

    by jay2517

but, im beginning to understand u ignore and dismiss all facts i post. oh yea, and totally ignore the point of my response to solvseus. again, not surprised. i proved that Maher lied about the debt increase under Obama. i also proved that slovseus uses the tired progressive meme of "its Bush's fault". his policies are NO LONGER in place. u, AGAIN, ignore that fact and just deflect as the dutiful progressive u are. so typical. "I don't agree with everything that Obama has done but nearly everything he's managed (TARP, the auto bailout, the stimulus) has kept the nation from falling into a far worse depression." HAHAHAHAHA! really? there is NO evidence of that. in fact, it hasnt done ANYTHING that he has promised. FACT. god, ur soo obtuse. "One brought about by the callous and reckless policies of the former Administration.". THANKS!! for proving my point on the "its all Bush's fault" syndrome. u are soo pathetic lol. BTW- i dont have a "man crush" (theres ur progressive projection again), but i DO loath liars and misogynists...

The only thing failing around here is you, Jay2517.

    by Mr. Nice Gaius

So sad. So utterly predictable. Such a slave to the epistemic closure of the GOP's insistence on the Left/Right paradigm. Quote:"his policies are NO LONGER in place." No, you mean they're not PAID for! Geezus! No direct capital, no pay-as-you-go, no cost control measures, and no new revenue stream devoted to THOSE expenses. I just love how you guys like to go on a decade long killing spree without feeling any need to pay for it. Amazing! Quote: "there is NO evidence of that." Oh, really?! Sounds like you haven't read a whole lot about the subject! Not surprising since you've probably got Maher on the telly while you're jerking off to Hannity and Limbaugh on your AM dial. But if all you're going to simply say is that it didnt do anything, then you're being intellectually dishonest. A liar. One who is not interested in seeking out anything beyond what your choice of bobble-heads have said. You know, I'm starting to feel a little sorry for you. These exchanges are utterly pointless and you clearly aren't following the jib of my posts. You just seem intent on screaming into the abyss because you (and your political alignment) refuses to take responsibility for those who set the course. But, I guess that's what happens when you have that much egg on your face, eh? BTW- "progressive projection"? What, you just make up new action words all the sudden?! There ain't no projection about it. You have a crush on Bill Maher. You hate him and yet you watch him and cite statements from him as if you've copied them directly from Newsbusters. Obsess much?

  • ...i guess thats the only way that u think u can "win"? oh yea, love ur homophobia! yet ANOTHER typical progressive meme, assume that i have homosexual feelings towards a leftist idiot. also, its another great way to DEFLECT from the fact i have proven him a liar over and over again. the reason i watch him is to be informed of the subject im talking about. something u progressives NEVER do. maybe u, and other progressives, should try it? plus, for someone who follows my every post, maybe u shouldnt label me a "obsessive" mmmk? also, what does Hannity and Limbaugh have to do with Mahers lying, distorting facts, misogyny and religious bigotry? why do u deflect so much LOL?? BTW- Mahers also a racist and woman abuser- Bill Maher- the typical racist, misogynist and hypocrite progressive...

  • Feb. 7, 2012, 7:29 a.m. CST

There was no insinuation of homosexuality in my post. Only obsession.

    by Mr. Nice Gaius

And good lord. Progressive this and progressive that. You're flailing, kid. The question you should be asking yourself is what does Maher have to do with me? I've already told you that I think he's an asshole and that I don't watch him. I choose to READ and get my perspectives elsewhere. Again, you flail about in the manner most typical of the GOP/Conservative who is intent on pushing the left/right paradigm. Fucking sad!

  • Feb. 7, 2012, 10:53 p.m. CST

good god, man! do u EVER deflect!

    by jay2517

thats all u do! deflect and change the topic when i school u! u really need to stop embarrassing urself little man. its getting really sad. "The question you should be asking yourself is what does Maher have to do with me? I've already told you that I think he's an asshole and that I don't watch him."--- then SHUT. THE. FUCK. UP. Maher is part of this talkback. dont comment on him (or to me) if u dont watch. it just shows ur progressive hypocrisy...

    ••• SNORT!!! •••

    by Mr. Nice Gaius

Oooo! Getting testy now, eh? Looks like I might have gotten under your skin a little bit. Good. Because we just might be in for some rockin' good times, you and me. So, listen up, shitbird. This is AICN Talkback...which means that I'll post on whatever the fuck I want. And if that means pwning little GOP shills who intend to do nothing but whitewash people as progressives with an I-Hate-Bill-Maher-Brush, then so be it. I. Couldn't. Give. A. Fuck. Nice deflection too, by the way. You have the listening skills of a carnival barker. I hope that you're looking forward to the election when your so-called failed President hands the GOP its ass. Cheers!
