Whedon: “No [Spoiler Redacted] Cameo” In THE AVENGERS!!

I am – Hercules!!

"There is no Spider-Man cameo,” "Avengers" writer-director Joss Whedon asserted during Tuesday’s Twitter-conference promoting his superhero epic. “But the Avengers do turn off the dark."

This, of course, conflicts with “Avengers” cast member Jenny Agutter’s assertion  that she witnessed a Winnebago dressing room for Spider-Man on the "Avengers" set.

A shame that different chunks of the Marvel universe are controlled by different studios, no?  Fox has X-Men, Wolverine, Daredevil and the Fantastic Four, Sony has Spider-Man and Ghost Rider, New Line has Blade and Disney has The Avengers and pretty much everything else.

In the old days, studios like RKO and Metro could swap out contract players like Ginger Rogers and Hedy Lamarr with little difficulty.

I guess Disney could trade an appearance by Nick Fury to Fox for a cameo by Erik Lensherr, but then – on top of that – they’d also have to negotiate fees for Sam Jackson and Ian McKellan.  If they wanted to keep it fun.

Whedon’s Spidey denial may be the closest thing to news coming out of the exchanges; if you want to sift through the entire transcript, you can find that here.
