A New Shot Of Diesel As Riddick In The New RIDDICK Movie That Has Riddick In It!!
Merrick here...
Last week ,Vin Diesel gave us our first look at Riddick from his upcoming sequel to PITCH BLACK and THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK. On his Facebook page, he's posted another shot of himself in costume.

Diesel evidently went to the mat to bring us this "R" rated sequel (details HERE) for this new movie, and it's said the project will be closer in tone to PITCH BLACK than it's DUNEish successor. While I enjoyed CHRONICLES quite a bit, this shift is probably a very wise move on the whole, as many fans of the smaller and more immediate PITCH BLACK had trouble relating to its flashier and oversized CHRONICLES sequel. Can't wait to see what Diesel and returning writer/director David Twohy have in store for us this time...

I look forward to this sequel. I enjoyed the first two for different reasons, and I'm glad to hear that this new one will be "R" rated. So what the hell is lame and weak about that? Answer: Absolutely nothing! Say it again!
-
The guy fights to make a decent movie in a franchise he cares about, LISTENS to what people didn't like about the second movie and tries to address those problems, and wants to do right by the audience. We only WISH more people in the industry would do that and in fact, you fuckers bitch and moan whinetardedly all the time that more people listened to you. Vin deserves the benefit of the doubt on this enough to at least see it.
-
and I'll probably be helping out lol, totally going to see this
-
i love Pitch Black and Chronicles is ok, but the games kick ass!

It's a tribute to Schwarzenegger that no one has stepped up to fill his shoes.
by Ironhelix
Thought it might be Diesel, then came the Rock, but no one has claimed it.
-
The main part I didn't like in riddick was the fight scenes were filmed so tight you couldn't tell what was going on. As far as the R rating starwars was only PG and yet T2 was R Hmmmm good luck with that.
-
Pitch Black worked well because it kept things small and basic. Chronicles sucked because they went big and blew themselves up.

Why am I STILL sceptical about this movie actually happening?
by melonman
I clearly need to have a little bit of faith, reinstill some hope, and remember that PITCH BLACK was actually pretty damn good at the time, unlike the Gojira-laid turd that was CHRONICLES.

Liked the first 2 a lot

GAY. AS IN GAY IS BAD GAY. SO SAYS CREEPYTHINMANLIVEZ. HARRY IS SUCKING VIN'S DICK NOW TOO?
by Creepythinmanlivez
FACT!

Okay, whether you read these talk-backs or not, you have to keep a few things in mind: - I understand there is all sorts of influences to go back to a more PITCH BLACK line of story telling, which is okay (be it in regards to Riddick's character or simply because it would mean a lower budgeted movie), BUT... you can't just throw away what happened in CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK. - you can easily solve it by having Riddick as the ruler taking them straight to the gate of the Underverse in a 80's style montage (along the lines of THE PIT OF DEATH scene in the first CONAN THE BARBARIAN, with ominous music building up through their fight to the gate). Riddick has Kira in a glass coffin to at least preserve her body. When they get to the gate, Riddick has to place his forearms into something akin to the Space Jockey chair in ALIEN (his arms are attached to the control mechanism), ie. the one who opens the gate cannot go through. As they all go through, including Kira's coffin, she comes back to life, but Riddick can't get out of the opening device. When it releases him, all he can do is run over and watch as she waves to him (ala the President's dream in DREAMSCAPE) as the gate closes. When he tries to stick his arms into the mechanism, it won't work again - it only works once and only for a necromonger. He laughs in resignation (as he realizes that he's going to be along for the rest of his life) as credits start. It will also end the CHRONICLES storyline while giving Riddick a reason to go back to his original character (the one person he really cared about is not only alive again, but he'll never see her or be with her. Ever). - Then have Deisel watch as many William Holden movies you can get ahold of (or particularly STALAG 17, NETWORK and WILD BUNCH to put the actor in the right frame of mind) and just do a space version of THE WILD BUNCH (ie Riddick is tired of hiding from life, and knows he can't have a happy ending, so "fuck it", he's going to go on the offensive and take life by the throat), even down to the ending.
-
All you asshats that say it's gay or whatever you say, you're just jealous of Vin and his ability to kick Chuck Norris and his conservative ass. And, btw, Riddick > Pitch Black
-
I enjoy Pitch Black, I actually really enjoyed TCOR, even the premise, yes its a sequel, but its not a remake of Pitch Black. I'll hold my opinion of this movie until after I see it. But hats off to Deilsel for pushing this through, for money, of course, but who wouldnt, but also because he loves the character and story (universe) from what I understand.
-
Once again, you illustrate your ignorance by slandering two successful men, these being Harry and Vin Diesel. Where are you? Typing bullshit comments in a cubicle somewhere? Not that Vin Diesel or Harry really need your approval, though.
-
He clearly loves the character of Riddick, and he's using his clout to make additional adult-oriented movies/games about the Riddick-verse. Hit or miss, I'd rather see Vin spend his time doing this than just collecting paychecks from soulless kids' comedies.

I'm in. Vin has made one great Riddick flick, one decent one.
by Hint_of_Smegma
Looks like he's got a chance of making another great one with this. He's got my ticket money come opening day.
-
I liked that one. A cool throwback to the Roger Moore-era Bond movies that didn't take themselves too seriously. Oh well.
-
well played.
-
creepythinmanlivez typing bullshit comments in a cubicle? That implies that he actually has a job and makes some kind of contribution to society.
-
Are you guys too young to remember the XXX review?
-
I don't always like Vin's movies (and, in fact, have not even seen all of them), but he seems genuinely dedicated to this franchise, and it's hard to find anyone else in hollywood giving a crap about something like sci fi. Pitch Black was a great surprise. Chronicles was flawed but enjoyable. If they can narrow the focus of the third while still advancing the story and character, I'll be shelling out money to watch it in theaters.
-
I still want someone to explain to me why some futuristic space guy stole his eyewear from James Worthy.
-
The first couple Riddick movies were both fun, and for different reasons. I'm not a fan of much of Vin's filmography in general but he obviously cares about this franchise and goes out of his way to try to do right by it. We've heard repeatedly from different sources how he puts a ton of effort into it, like working extra hours on the video game dialogue to get it flawless, and fighting for the filmmakers to retain creative control of the movies. He could easily just cash his huge paychecks and go home, but instead he fights for the Riddick franchise to be the absolute best that he can make it - so give the guy some credit.
-
If I remember correctly, one of the questions was, "Vin, how do you keep your dick so firm in my mouth for hours at a time?''
-
R-rated Riddick makes me happy. I hope it doesn't suck, but I applaud Vin for doing it.
-
Diesel is an old school table top gamer. AD&D first Ed.... the first two movies play great as gamer movies. the kinda plot that happened on a tabletop from gamers b4 xbox... They are both the kinda movies/stories that we dreamed about while rolling up characters with the big red box... now, i will grant you that Chronicles was a ((way)) bit overblown as a sequel... and didnt work well as a second half to a trilogy... or as a sequel to Pitch Black... but it was a good THIRD movie to a trilogy... unfortunately the studios wanted a big budget movie building on Riddick... and... we got Chronicles so, lets hope this third movie, with Vin being a bigger draw (after the hits that are F&F movies) he gets to play a little more.... or a little less... depends on who is to blame for the second (i am betting on the studios) lets hope that THIS Riddick outing is more towards PB than CHronicles... let him have the fun with the character
-
I thank you, sir.
-
I have to say that I was hoping for a sequel since the beginning either way and am a HUGE Pitch Black fan (Chronicles is a good movie but an odd if interesting direction to take)..but I find some takes on this thread to be rather short-sighted... Expendables gets stunted to a PG-13 due to a self-anointed 'holier than thou' crusader for decency who's absence wouldn't even be noticed (except we'd get to keep our 'R' rating), we'll eventually get more and more ridiculously over the top PG-13 Die-Hard sequels but no more signature McClane lines cause if people hear the phrase "mother fucker" they just start to cry and their stuffy red noses run freely onto their shirts. but here's Diesel going far and above and out of his way, and into his own pocket, to bring a new movie in this franchise that will not take the economically pragmatic approach over story integrity and hardly anyone will give the guy any credit? This is potentially a risky career move for the guy, but given this integrity, all you can say is "lame"? It could be shit. You may hate Diesel. You may have hated the first two movies. All fine and good opinion-wise but I'm guessing even then you likely hate the idea of production going for PG-13 only for the best chance at making money given the potential consumer exposure even more. Not as the end-result of the story being told, right? The rating doesn't matter unless the story is changed to fit the rating yes? The MPAA *doesn't* wield some degree of censorship-like power with the arbitrary nature of the ratings system, right? Of course you hate it - anyone who's ever appreciated anything create must hate it as it puts something terrible in the creative process that should NEVER be there in the first place. Censorship due to control-freak assholes or passive censorship due to "economic pragmatism" based on arbitrary ratings and rules system ultimately amounts to the same thing: we don't have a freely creative film industry... Well, at least one guy with some able power has heard the message and is putting his own name on the line - whether the end results in good or bad movie, the endeavor itself is worthy of your respect.
-
Frak you all! I liked Chronicles and was looking forward to a direct sequel. It was "duneish" only insofar as they created a world. It was an interesting world.
-
You mean as opposed to PITCH BLACK?
-

Didn't like the second one, but "Pitch Black" is awesome and Vin Diesel was awesome in it. Based on that goodwill alone, I'll give the third "Riddick" movie a chance...
by ChickenStu
But it better be fucking special...
-
No more Necromongers or whatever the hell they were. Just have Riddick out the kicking ass.
-
Why are we getting this, honestly? Because of FURIOUS FIVE? Diesel is a LAME action star: Nothing ever happens to him. Seriously, he never gets beat up or anything. He just gets a little dirty. Which is all that happens to FEMALE characters in action movies. That's right. I went there.

As anti heroes go, Riddick is one of the coolest.

Who the fuck thinks Chronicles of Riddick was like Dune? The books or the movie? The Chronicles of Riddick was written by a 12 year old FOR 12 year olds. Just look at the writing, what they call some of the shit in the movie; We find out that mean ol' Riddick comes from a race called 'Furyans', Judy Dench's character can turn into wind so of course her race is called 'the elementals', the bad guys, who want to kill everything, are called Necromongers. These Necromongers are basically evil, so their paradise is called the 'Underverse'. I mean fuck, there's a prison planet that's very close to the sun called 'Crematoria'......12 year olds dude. Comparing this to Dune is an insult.

John Zuur Platten and Flint Dille, both say that Vin is great to work with, and cares hugely about his games and movies. I've only met him once, but was very impressed. Wishing him well on this project. "Looks clear!"

the_guy_in_the_rated_r_movie , far be it from to defend "Chronicles Of Riddick"...
by ChickenStu
but I don't think it was actually supposed to be taken too seriously. I think there was a very real attempt by Diesel and co to be a bit tongue in cheek with it. However that didn't come across too well and it's po-faced tone worked against it. I think the film's a failure really, but I admire what they were trying to do. I admire Vin Diesel, I think he's a good man. He didn't do the second "F&F" movie cause he knew it would be a turd, but liked Justin Lin enough to come back and do a cameo in the third. When he knew things were getting better and that Lin would be a good thing for the series, he returned for the fourth and fifth movies - and the fifth movie ended up being the best action movie of 2011. I like Diesel for that. We probably wouldn't have got that movie without him.
-
it does seem the logical progression of the series and VD's career
-
So what if it wasn't the greatest movie ever. It was something new at least. Everyone shits reboots and rightfully so. He's at least trying to do something new.
-

That would be like naming a lone smuggler "Solo" or a natural pilot "Skywalker." Now THAT would be fucking stupid... oh, wait.
-
...or shoehorn me into her..? I fucking love Pitch Black..! If they manage to capture 50% of the atmosphere that movie had I'll be happy.

Second Riddick was alot more pulpy but was still the cooler film
by even9
Say what yo want, but second Riddick had alot more cool stuff going on than first. Story was less tight but more than makes up for that in fun of all the different & fun stylistic elements the film is packed with.

Chronicles is a thoroughly enjoyable movie if you love sci-fi. Defintely cooler than Pitch Black. I'm looking forward to these new movies a lot. Love that they're rated R.
