X-FILES.... Duchovny's Hollywood Episode...

Published at:  Feb 23, 2000 12:53:16 PM CST

The following info originated from: - http://www.fandom.com/x-files/, just so ya know!

Hey folks, Harry here with a scoop from The Nicotine Patch Wearing Man about what sounds like a really really fun episode of THE X-FILES. Unfortunately I have missed most of this last season due to reception problems here at geek headquarters, but now that cable is installed... hehe... I get to watch it again. Me so happy. Here ya go...

If you thought the "X-COPS" episode was cool, wait until you hear this. David
Duchovny has written and directed what could be the coolest ep of the year.
Titled "Hollywood A.D.," it focuses on a studio making a movie out of Mulder
and Scully's exploits. Aside from the obvious inside jokes, the buzz is on
the special guest stars for the ep. Gary Shandling will play the actor
playing Mulder and Duchovny's real-life wife Tea Leoni will play the actress
playing Scully. The two are said to share a kiss in character which doesn't
sit well with the real deals. The ep is set to air on April 30 and I can't
wait for it. Thought you'd like to know.

First off, Harry this is no "scoop". This is an old rumour that's been floating around for some time now. Second, this has the potential to be either really cool, or really stupid. We will see.... (if it's any indication, David's first X-File effort last season wasn't half bad)

    by iaidoka

Tee-hee. I don't like X Files. I don't like COPS, but something about the two merged made me want to watch so I did. I have to tell ya, if you missed it, you really missed it. It was perhaps the most entertaining hour of TV I've seen in quite some time.

I know it wasn't spelled right in the subject... They did this in a third season episode of Millennium (the Halloween episode that had KISS on) with this guy trying to play (Mr. Black...) and he did a funny job of playing (Mr. Black...)

Is the rest of the world or at least Hollywood supposed to know of the existence of the X-Files and Mulder and Scully? I'm speaking of course of the world within the show not our real world. Doesn't make much sense to me.

what this episode should be--alternate universe

    by eyeswideshut

Something should happen to Mulder and Scully where they get thrown into a parallel universe where they are really David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson playing Mulder and Scully on a hit TV show. But only Mulder realizes what has happened and he can't believe how Scully is acting now that she is dumb floosie Gillian and not scientific Scully. He also can't believe all these hot girls hitting on him wherever he goes. I think this would be a much better episode than a Scream re-hash

    Cops Ep...

    by agentcooper

I've been kinda hard on the X-Files this season, but that Cops episode was really good (even though it stole its villan from Stephen King's IT). This one sounds like it is going to be great, as well. I think I like X-Files best when it pokes fun at itself (The eps where Charles Nelson Riley writes a book about Mulder/Scully, the one where Mulder switches bodies with Michael McKean, the one where the shape shifter takes on Mulder's body and puts the moves on Scully). It is very odd that a show can shift tone as often as X-Files, but the creative team does this very well.

Interesting is all. I know certian plot holes will be popping up on how Hollywood knows of the X-Files and The Syndicate and such. That fact might ruin it. However, the other comedy eps. like "Jose Chung's From Outer Space" "A Post-modern Promethious" and "Bad Blood" prove that the strange DO work on the X-Files. As of now, the idea could be, at best, a midly entertaining show or, at worst, a real continuity problem.--Saulot--

    X-Files...

    by vincent d.

I think people are getting too caught up in the continuity crap... The X-Files is always best (and has always been best) in the one-shot episodes. The entire conspiracy thing is so convoluted, and wasn't even the origional intent. (Remember Carter talking about how the story arch didn't happen 'till Anderson had to take a leave of absence?) Take a poll of viewers, and I'll bet you find that at least 3 out of 4 of their favorite episodes were one-shots. This also goes to show that it's not the "conspiracy vibe" that drives the show's popularity, it's the way they deal with the WEIRD. This episode, like X-Cops, will be weird, and I bet I'm going to love it.

The Best Show On TV - Sometimes

    by goodgulf

I've been a fan of the X-Files since the very first episode, though over the last two seasons I've had yo miss many of the shows. I'l leave it up to you guys as to how good it is right now, but IMHO the show was not only the best of its genre, but just plain good entertainment - period. I'm old enough to remember watching The Twilight Zone when it was a first run show, and I never thought I'd see another show that had the same creative intensity. But like the TZ, X-Files is a mixed bag, with some shows not quite as good as others, but overall the series is excellent. And I agree that the single episodes are often the best and several have really given me the creeps. And you'd have to know me to know that's a rare thing for me. The conspiracy episodes have run out of gas for me. I'm at the point where I no longer care what happened to Muldar's sister or why. The X-Files movie left me cold and disappointed like Star Trek - The Movie. A big budget but not much else. I would have preferred an original "horror" story rather than trying to untwist the convolutions of the conspiracy in one film. It worked better on TV. But I guess that's our fault in a way. It was us who let them know we wanted more and more of the conspiracy stuff until we choked on it. But I hope there is another X-Files movie and perhaps they can have their "Wrath of Khan" hit too.

What this episode should be, Part II...

    by eyeswideshut

I have to admit, though, that the alternate universe storyline appeals to me mainly because of a fascination with simplisticly rationalizing and therefore trivializing the ideas in imaginative entertainment. "Alternate universes" are an obsessive-compulsive's wet-dream that I stole from comic-books -- I love the current "Hypertime" concept being used in DC comics, for instance, because it means that every colorist's mistake can be explained as an alternate universe. To Hell with grey areas and uncertainty! Plus, I stole the whole idea of the actors playing their characters as actors in a sci-fi tv series from a movie called "Galaxy Quest". You all should see it -- it's hysterical, great fun and a big success. I've never had an original idea in my life, really.

I have been watching "The X-Files" since season one and the only disappointing thing about it has been the movie. OTherwise, the series is cruising steadily and smoothly through its seventh season with admirable agility and skill-further proof that it is one of the best-if not the best-genre TV shows in history, right up there with "The TWilight Zone". Over the years, Duchovny has proved a very gifted writer-from "Anasazi" to this season's "Amor Fati" (as co-writer) and last season's great "The Unnatural" which he penned solo and also directed as he will do with "Hollywood AD". Indeed the episdoe sounds like fun and could be an instant classic but until it airs in late April or early May, I'm totally psyched for the return of William Gibson and Tom Maddox as writers of this week's ep. Should be as awesome as "X-Cops"!

    the REAL X-Files scoop.... Shumway/Scully

    by dr. braino

Mr. Gordon Shumway is sitting on the REAL scoop (sorry for breaking this one, Gordon, I couldn't resist!) - in the final episode of the series, ALF is revealed to be Scully's longtime secret lover. Together they have a good laugh at Mulder's expense before taking off in Shumway's ship. Mulder is left to be consoled by Agent Fowley, who recruits him into the Church of Scientology.

    Life becomes fiction....as in......

    by jsl151

An episode in which Mulder discovers the world he knows is a TV series in an alternate reality would be a good last episode.

He might ask what happens to the characters after the series ends.
    (Priceline commercials?)
When he returns to his world, what would he bring as proof of his 'excellent adventure'? A script? A video tape? (The joke being, in Mulder's world, they use Beta!)
A comicbook? The X-Files magazine? (I meant to buy that!) A TV Guide?

And yes, we've seen this in "Twilight Zone" and what has to be the cheapest episode of Gerry Anderson's "U.F.O.".

    by bruce le

Well not really since I never got to write it and send it to fox. But around this time last year I had an idea for an X-files episode that involved the storyline described in the article with Mulder and Scully being on the set of a Hollywood adaptation of Mulder & Scully; actually I borrowed that idea from an episode of Millenium for those who remember.

    by medusa

This used to be such an innovative and engaging show.
Now its nothing but a high tech Adventures Of Lois & Clark Retread
created by people who need to deflate their egos.

The ratings are down and will only continue to tumble, if they keep
    spewing forth mindless drek like
    tonights episode.

It should be put out of its misery before it becomes an even bigger joke than it already has become.

    Medusa and ratings

    by harris

The only reason the ratings are down for the X-Files is because of their own success. In a sense they were their own worst enemies. You see, prior to the X-Files being moved to Sunday night the only successful shows were the ones aimed at the family viewing together. X-Files took all of the family shows on and won. Now X-Files is the target. Look at TV Guide for 9pm Sun Feb. 27. The 10th Kingdom-JonBenet Ramsay story-The Beach Boys-The Sopranos... Just to name a few. Don't count CC and crew out just yet, with eps like X-Cops, First Person Shooter, and the season openers, season 7 could be strong enough to convince DD to sign on for season 8. Now if we could just get Morgan and Wong back for one more.

tonight's new episode "First person shooter"? sucked ass

    by brendan3

C'mon this episode, trapped in a video game, was utter horseshit. A computer with a mind of its own can make Mulder's body disappear from the real world and stay trapped in a game because... it's a magic computer? I remember when Superman 3 came out and it featured Richard Pryor as a computer genius who, with a few clever keystrokes, could make weather sattelites control the weather. This is just as logical. Sort of like the aliens in Independence Day operating on Windows programs. There's suspension of disbelief and then there's total disregard for logic or natural law. Mulder could have just used his heat vision super powers to melt the computer(that would have been in keeping with the logic of the episode) Obviously sombody at Fox thought that since the stereotypical X Files fan is an asocial pimply computer geek, they needed to make a video game episode complete with a pin up chick and Matrix style outfits. What they made was an embarassing piece of shit.

    Re: Brendan3

    by sith lord jesus

I *thought* there was something (unpleasantly) familiar about tonight's episode! While last weeks "X-Cops" gets two thumbs up from me, this weeks was just emberassing crapola, a worthy contender for Alexandrea DuPont's "C.R.A.S.H." award. I mean, come on--a computer game where you virtually have to have the space of a warehouse on hand in order to set it up and play it? Yeah, that'll really sell. Plus there was the old get'sucked-into-the-computer thing which has been around since at least TRON and before. And the script was just bleh--the dialog stilted and flat. However, I'm not ready to write off this season just *yet* on the basis of one bad episode. Still and all, I'm glad that this is the last season--they can't keep doing this forever, you know, and the longer it goes on the more pathetic it will become. Chris Carter and Co. should just devote the rest of the time to doing some really kick-ass, balls to the wall final episodes so the thing will really go out on a high note.

  • When X-Files filmed in Canada, most of the supporting players and extras were locals from the Vancouver area. Now that the show has moved south to L.A., it seems to have lost a lot of personality. Nothing against Hollywood, but every waiter and bagboy is an actor who wants to be in the big time. Up north, they just did local calls and the show was blessed with a lot less "professional" actors, and more real people. When I watch the new episodes with all the little changes (uh Scully, do ALL women FBI agents have unbutton their blouses that far?), all I see are the ACTORS! in the background. I guess it's kinda good that the show's almost over. Hell, just turn it into a film franchise and put one on the screen every 3 years. Now that I'd like. But there's no pleasing some of us.

    Sith Lord: about the game

    by kadath

SLJ, I wondered the same thing as you: how could they expect to sell this game? The answer is in Langley's statement when they first say howdy to M&S. He said that they had 50 malls across the country signed up. Ergo, it's a Lasertag-style game, not a Quake-style game.

Ah, so that explains the hugeness of the game. I've been so into Quake, Unreal, etc I'd forgot all about Lasertag and co. Still, though, the rest of my critique stands. Also, I'm glad to see Gillian Anderson getting more movie roles these days that have nothing to do with the role she's most fameous for--at least she doesn't have to worry about typecasting.

Carter only likes people who kiss his A**.

Morgan & Wong are running THE OTHERS which by all accounts, NBC is happy with the fact that it beats both Preteender & PROFILER in the ratings

    by ncontrol

    'tell you the truth...
    DD makes me sick.
When CC was in charge of the show, still had a vision of what the show supposed to look like, back when the show was filmed in Canada, the now greedy actors (actor) wasn't just in it for the money and Tea Leoni was just another talent less show business blow on, blond sex doll (ho, never mind... ;o)) Carter interviewed that a lot of cele' asked him to make an appearance on the show but he refused because that's not what the show's about and it won't be The X Files (remember, that is the show's name- not "The Duchovnys"!) Now, ever since season one DD has manage to stick his bimbos, buddies and family but Tea Leoni as Scully???!!! AH-HA, NO WAY- this has gone too far!
This show has gone down the hill sine the move to L.A- gee, thanks Dave. Please pull the plug on this sinking ship and please, please stuff DD's face into a pillow case. Thank you.
