    Congratulations, everyone...

...but don't get too excited. Ti West will probably go on to direct some great films, but THE INNKEEPERS isn't one of them.

Saw this on VUDU last weekend. Kelly McGillis looks old as FUCK.

Congratulations may not be in order in regards to having to sit through the movie itself either.

    SPOILERS AHEAD:
The ending was weird, the main male character says he has something to tell the main female character and then it's never said, and it happens during the climax which throws everything off.
It was good in that it made my girlfriend jump once or twice, but it wasn't worth the $12 (pre-theatrical release rental cost).

    This movie is very bad

    by bemorefunny

The first chunk tries very hard to establish character, humor, and relatability--it accomplishes none of these things. Then it shifts into a ghost story, relying on, get this......EERIE PIANO NOISES FROM ANOTHER ROOM!!!!!!!!! It couldn't be less scary or less funny. I'm amazed that the crew of the film didn't suddenly realize, 'Hey, what the hell are we doing? Why are we making this? Who would like this? What is the point of this?'

    I liked Innkeepers a lot.

Saw it at SXSW and the audience was really into it. I enjoyed it more than the other SXSW films I got into like Attack The Block and Paul (with the exception of 13 Assassins which was tyhe best film I'd seen since Inglourious Basterds). Maybe the reason some people don't get it is that the first half is a relationship driven comedy, and then the scary part comes in the last third. It's the slow burn as in The House of The Devil, except instead we get to know the two main characters during the first part while the haunted location is being set up. The girl played by Sara Paxton, was one of the most likable, realistic characters I saw in a film last year. I just don't get what Bemorefunny is talking about, the relatability of her character was one of the film's strong points, utterly charming and believable as a cute young girl not sure what to do with her life. The guy is really funny, their banter was another big strong point. I can see how it might not be the right film for hard core horror fans, or the people who didn't like House of The Devil because they thought the long buildup was "boring". I saw it a second time when it came out on VOD, and enjoyed it again. I thought the ending was creepier and better done than Insidious. What movies are you guys finding in the past year that are spookier than these films is what I want to know. You guys really didn't like Sara Paxton in this? WTF? I'd never seen her before, and now I'm going to watch for her in other stuff.

    Good movie.

I loved HOUSE OF THE DEVIL so I'm all for slow-burn suspense. In this I thought the leads were likeable and the tension built very well. My only problem was that so much is left hanging, especially about the nature of the ghost. But overall I really enjoyed THE INNKEEPERS.
