Gig, the brilliant aggie, chimes in on SPY KIDS

Published at:  Feb 22, 2000 11:32:08 PM CST

Hey folks, Harry here. Seems that Rodriguez (man... when it rains it pours information) blabbed a bit in College Station this past weekend about some details of SPY KIDS. I was hoping that Robogeek was going to report in from the event, but I haven't heard from him yet. But never fear, Gig... the brilliant aggie, has decided to give us a few more tidbits. From what I know of the film, I can fill in two blanks. Cheech Marin's butler is a butler for Banderas' family... and is of course slightly more than a mere butler. Personally... the idea of Cheech as a butler just cracks me up. Then Danny Trejo plays a mysterious character that either aides or hinders the journey undertaken by the pair of 'Spy Kids'. And I can confirm that Robert's shooting date is right after SXSW here in Austin, so it'll start shooting sometime after the midpoint of March. Here's the scoop...

A mighty thumb up salute to you Harry.

I was hoping to see you at the TEXAS A&M FILM FESTIVAL down here in beautiful College Station. Home of the brave and all. This year Robert Rodriguez came down here and I wanted to just give you a ring on some names I heard him say was going to be in that SPY KIDS movie. First he said that filming was going to be coming up this next month in March and that the casting wasn't all done just yet but that he had the kids cast with unknowns and that Alan Cummings was the bad guy, I think, and that Cheech Marin was going to be some sort of butler type and that Antonio Banderas was going to be the father and that Danny Trejo was going to be somebody. I don't know much else but he did show us some shots of some sharks. There are going to be plenty of sharks in this movie, but I don't know where they fit in, but there is a lot of them. Well that is all that I know.

    But seriously...

Rodriguez kicks ass. I know how sad and fan-boy that sounds but it's true. Everything he touches turns to kicks ass-ness. He even came away from Four Rooms with dignity. I know this'll kick ass, cos it's got kids AND Alan Cumming. Did I mention he kicks ass?

    kiddie flick

    by wannabe

For those of you who doubt Rodriguez doing a "kiddie-flick", just watch his portioon of Four Rooms and his short film Bed-head. The guy's a fucking natural with 'em. oh, and sharks are cool. I wonder who'd win if a shark fought a crocodile.

    Kiddie flix

    by rj fletcher

I'm in College Station as well, so let me put in my two bits ab. Robert R. doing a kiddie flick. He said in the press conference that he was doing it becuase of his son, that he wanted to make a film that his son could watch. Just thought that should be cleared up, he's not a pussy or anything, just a family man.

WHOOOOOOOOP! hehehe Harry, you damn teasip.

    Rodriguez kiddy flick

    by andy_christ

I don't see why anyone is worried about how this will turn out.
After seeing "The Misbehavers," or "Bed Head" for that matter, I'm sure he can pull this off.

Oh, and Spy Kids was mentioned on NPR's Morning Edition yesterday (2/22), they were talking about child actors, and a girl whose stage name was "Savanna Star" (sounds like a porn name, if you ask me...whoever stuck her with that handle needs to be smacked) said she had auditioned for it (of course that don't mean nothing, but hey, they DID talk about it).
