Ken Ralston leaves JUMANJI 2 as Director
Hey folks, Harry here. Over at Hollywood Reporter they're reporting that Ken Ralston has left JUMANJI 2 as director.... (thank god)...
Why 'thank god'? Well, the script for the project was always reported as being fairly weak. What with an evil vice-president and a heroic jungle adventurer President and his team of animal friends... (rough version of the story)
But it was always one of those projects that as an outsider looking at it, seemed to be a project that Ralston was supposed to get through, in order to really direct a film he cared about... MYSTERIOUS ISLAND.
The folks I've talked to that have seen some of the prelim animation (CG that is) work on JUMANJI 2 said that it really was quite amazing work... and I'm sure it would be. BUT for me... it would always just be... JUMANJI 2, which is of course a project that doesn't inspire too much glee.
Moriarty and I had been hearing for the better part of a month and a half about all sorts of problems between Ralston and Sony. At one point there was speculation going on that Ralston was not only going to walk off of JUMANJI 2, but out of SONY IMAGEWORKS... and head right on over to Zemeckis' effects company. But for now... it seems that Ralston is staying with Imageworks... though I have to hope that SONY realizes that this is someone with whom they should simply hand over MYSTERIOUS ISLAND and let him make his 'Harryhausen film'. But then... That's just me blabbing again...

C'mon Hollywood. How many amazing original ideas are there out there for you to steal? Why do you have to beat a dead horse? I bet in the next two years we see Bicentennial Man 2: the next Centennial; Boys Don't Cry 2: She Lives!; Star Wars, Episode 2! Oh, wait...Anyways, this was a stupid idea to begin with. Thank goodness SOMEONE (Ralston) had the balls to walk away.

my 10 year old brother likes Jumanji so they would get his ticket...actually i don't have anything to contribute...but I thought I should scince I was up and on

This has got to be one of the worst ideas in the long sad history of bad ideas.

Please do not do a re-make of Mysterious Island. Please....

Yeah, I must have missed all those people DEMANDING Jumanji 2: The Quickening. Film Exec: "Hey, didn't that Jumanji movie really bite us in the ass a few years ago?" Other Film Exec: "Sequel!"
-
Jumanji was a pleasant surprise. The movie should have sucked, but ended up being really good. Good enough to give Joe Johnston a crack at JP3. But let's be reasonable. With no one returning from the first film, there's no point. IT WILL SUCK. And I, for one, am tired of going to see movies that suck.

there is a guy named Ken Rolston who is an award winning game designer. Is this the same guy? Also, can anyone tell me who wrote the Jumanji 2 script? I think I might know the guy, but just wanted to double check... and to the guy who was talking about F/X directors who go on to be movie directors... I haven't seen it work to often... Stan Winston's Pumpkinhead was pretty bad... and the movies of Paul Anderson are not so hot either... although Mortal Kombat and Event Horizon have some decent entertainment value... (never saw Soldier though, heard it sucked).

I hate to admit that there is a copy of Jumanji sitting on top o
by all thumbs
...but I don't hesitate to scream, "IT'S NOT MY MOVIE!!!!" It's my rommates' copy and she set it in the living room for all to see. I'm so ashamed...it degrades the quality movies it rests on. (Though I admit I own some non-quality ones as well.) I moved it off my "Gone With the Wind", but my roommate then moved it on top of my DVD of "The Searchers" and tainted it so I'm about ready to stick it in the trash compactor where it belongs.

What is the percentage of sequels and remakes that are successful, artistically and/or financially? For every Godfather 2 (sequel) or Magnificent 7 (remake) there have got to be 50 Jurassic Park 2 or Psycho (remake). Now a sequel to Jumanji 2. WHY? Are the powers that be so stupid or lame or chickenshit that they don't know that original work has a far better chance of success? I'll bet if you asked 100 Talk Backers for ideas for an original film, at least 20 would turn out to be good movies.

Darth Bond, your sarcasm isn't ever very funny since you always end with "...and I was JOKING, guys." I read your first "...I can't do it anymore" message and knew it was you without even checking your ID. Oh, and Jumanji sticks out in my mind as the premiere example of mediocre 90s muddling, seriously. I can't think of a better film to pick out as the epitome of all that is lukewarm; I ALWAYS whip out Jumanji. ("I'm going to Motel 6", the greatest line ever, excepted.)Even the FX were cheesy. And the ending ("it all never happened...but whoops! Some other kid's got the game now! SCARY!") was awful. I say Sequel City, ho!

What move that makes over $100 Million *doesn't* get a sequel? They are even making a sequel to Interview With the Vampire. Jumanji made the big bux, Jumanji gets a sequel. It's as simple as that. Besides, I liked the movie. Jumanji and Hook are the only two Robin Williams movies that I can stomach. And Kirsten Dunst rules.

OK first off, Helmut, your name is silly. I admit "Darth Rage" isn't exactly the height of cleverness, but at least I don't go around insulting people, as you obviously do. Congratulations on ridiculing my taste in movies. That must make you feel special. Here's some more fodder for you to get a chuckle from: 1) Yes, as I have said, Jumanji and Hook are my two favorite Robin Williams movies. If he did more movies like these, and less dreck like Bicentennial Man, Jakob the Liar, and Jack, he wouldn't be nearly as annoying an actor. 2) My favorite actress is Molly Ringwald. Oooh, I bet you are really going to get me good for that one! 3) The 1980's were my favorite decade for movies, music, and just about everything else. Wow! Another unpopular viewpoint!!! I'm just a glutton for punishment! 4) Phantom Menace is my favorite Star Wars movie, easily. Good Lord. What will people think? In short, you insipid loser, I couldn't give a rat's ass what you think about me or my opinions. And before you post any more of your syphilitic ramblings, perhaps you ought to remember that. Umm, HELLOOOO???

how many movies do you boys own in the clamshell packaging? it was a kids' movie. so lighten up you bitches...except you helmut. keep on fuckin' darth rage's mom!

Who on earth decided that the first Jumanji needed a sequel. I semi -enjoyed the first movie (saw it on video), and forgot about it in an instant. Wasn't Ken Ralston a effects supervisor at ILM at one time? I think I recall meeting him one time when Starlog hosted this 10th anniversary convention for Star Wars back in '87. He was a really cool guy at the convention.
I have a feeling this Jumanji 2 is going bypass the theatres and go straight to video. -
I work at a lab that on occasion I see dailies from PRIMEVALS. So, apparently, it is still being worked on. Hopefully, it will be finished.

Am I the only person who has noticed the huge increase of Darths in AICN.Obviously there are a hell of a lot of Darkside Masters/Apprentices. But seriously....
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. How sad. Darth Vader was cool. Darth Maul was cool. Darth anything else is wanky. Yres wanky. Especially Darth Bond (Almost as bad as Darth Isaac) -
(if anyone's still reading this thread...) Darth Bond, ending any sarcasm with an explanation that what you've said is, indeed, sarcasm just isn't funny! It comes across as dull once and witless after a thousand repeated times. And NO, saying "is that better?" doesn't mitigate things, it's the same damn thing! Good lord...
