Is this the closest we're getting to a DAZED AND CONFUSED sequel?

Hello ladies and gentlemen, Muldoon here with something I've been debating whether or not to post, but damn it - it's Mathew McConaughey doing what he does best "L-I-V-I-N." "David Wooderson," the role McConaughey made famous in Richard Linklater's 1993 DAZED AND CONFUSED, rocks out in a new music video from Butch Walker and the Black Widow's video for "Synthesizers." While I'm not too kean on making a point to randomly post music videos here, this one's just too cool to pass up.

McConaughey's about to hit theaters again as "Dallas" in Steven Soderbergh's MAGIC MIKE which hits the screen on June 29th.

Only not as cool. And the "Kaputt" is a much better song. And the chicks in the video are much hotter. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puu3IvKnSb4

    an acquired taste?

    by Bouncy X

after years of hearing how awesome this movie is i finally saw it a few months back. gotta say i found it quite boring. i guess its one of those movies people either "get" or they dont. though i could see those who grew up in that period probably enjoying it more as well. of course i'm not the biggest fan of comedies to begin with so there was a notch against it for me to begin with. but yes that high school girl line is quite funny and true. its even worse these days cuz damn they never looked that good back in my day. :P

bouncy, you had to see it IN high school

    by coz

This movie came out when I was a freshman and it kind of patterned my high school experience. I went into highschool as Mitch and came out as Pink. Didn't hurt that the 70s and 90s were so similar, they even talk about that in the movie, the "every other decade" theory. That movie, like few others I've ever seen, plugs straight into the teenage mind, the rebelling against authority, the questioning of values, the running scared shitless, the searching for truth and fun. It was just a complete confluence of all the right ingredients at just the right time. If that movie didn't exist, some of my favorite memories probably never would have happened. Like the time a couple days before my senior year started, 5 of us took off on an impromptu road trip to two other states, in the middle of the night, most of us underage. Fucking good times.

    Wooderson

    by fullrotor

Let's hope Wooderson wouldn't be wearing the same shirt in 1995 or thereabouts. Weird that it's been that long. I kinda wish the sequel that was occasionally talked about had happened, Wooderson and some other characters working construction jobs in the '80s and just hanging out or something...maybe as aimless as Dazed but about being in your '20s in that decade. Might have been interesting.

  • Jan. 23, 2012, 4:19 p.m. CST

Didn't have to see it in High School

    by fullrotor

I was in my 20s when this came out and it was one of my favorite movies at the time. I don't think age matters in appreciating this.

  • Jan. 23, 2012, 4:27 p.m. CST

Adventure land is not at all a sequel to Dazed

    by happybunni

What the hell is wrong with you. Spiritual or otherwise, they're completely different movies.

  • Jan. 23, 2012, 4:34 p.m. CST

fullrotor, maybe up to a point

    by coz

But I don't think a middle-ager is going to get quite the same things out of it that someone much younger would, do you? Imagine if you saw it now for the first time, would you appreciate it the same way?

  • The open road ending is filled with the promise and optimism of youth. We don't need to find out which characters lost their hair or grew a beer belly. We just need to know that the whole world is out there for them to discover.

What happened to all the girls in that movie?

    by Mugato5150

Parker Posey was sort of an indie star for a while but the only other of the hot girls in that film that got anywhere was Milla Jovovich and she didn't even have any lines, just sang a couple bars. Oh and Joey Lauren Adams went out with Kevin Smith for a while I think. Obviously she figured out that he couldn't help her with her career and is probably still in the shower.

    by Royston Lodge

Does that mean the high school girls are getting older?!

  • Jan. 23, 2012, 5:58 p.m. CST

Sorry! Meant Piper Perabo! Always get those two mixed up

    by tangcameo

I'm sure Amanda would have been naked there with them if she could have. Apologies to all you out there expecting Amanda in the movie now.

  • Jan. 23, 2012, 5:59 p.m. CST

btw Skip the rest of L & D. They wear clothes after that.

    by tangcameo

And I tend to fall asleep after that.

  • Jan. 23, 2012, 7:06 p.m. CST

    Sorry

    by MrLongbaugh

I have to agree with happybunni. Adventureland in my mind is in no way a sequel to Dazed and Confused. The only thing they have in common is some pot smoking by some young kids. Dazed and Confused represented an era. I remember my older cousins during that time. Smoking pot, listening to KISS, the summer of '76 with the bicentennial celebrations. I was a bit younger, but they were the exact ages of the characters in the movie. It seemed to me like they were pulled right out of the movie. There was something so special about that time.

This shit sounds like Dexy's Midnight Runners.

    by Xenodistortion

I hate music like this. And you know these fucktards were probably 8 years old when this movie came out. I absolutely love McConaughey and as cool as his reprisal of Wooderson is, I'll watch it on mute. Once. Glad that he's in on the joke that is himself, but man, modern pop music is some of the most horribly unoriginal and boring stuff being cranked out these days. M.M., you're still the shit to me, but even I can't get high enough to enjoy this musical wankery. Get to work on playing Lion-O in a live action Thundercats movie dude! That, or fucking AQUAMAN! I know you can swim like the dickens because I'm the only guy on the planet that's seen "Surfer Dude". Kudos to Muldoon for taking a chance and posting some weird ass shit on this site by the way.

    kinda sequel to Dazed

    by mcgillj

I always thought spiritually Suburbia was the sequel to Dazed.. a more generation removed with a similar kind of film. Maybe that's just me though. Felt more like the characters could have been the children of, maybe that's just because Linklater whelmed both.
