Today’s pic is like every other Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day, only more so.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!

Casablanca only has an 8.7 rating on IMDB and while that’s enough to put it high in the Top 250 movies list it still blows my mind that anybody could give this movie any less than 9 out of 10. It’s a perfect movie. There’s an effortless perfection to this film. Bogart’s Rick is a character for the ages, a hopeless romantic good guy hiding inside a cynical hustler. The situation is the definition of grey… what would you do if your true love showed up needing your help in order to save her HUSBAND’s life?

The dialogue is whip-smart, the characters are all iconic from the leading man to the minor characters (like Peter Lorre’s Ugarte), the photography is some of the most beautiful black and white film ever shot, Max Steiner’s score is so good Warner Bros uses it for it’s logo theme and it’s just so damn easy to watch. Casablanca is one of those movies that can come on and stop you doing whatever you’re doing and watch through to the end.

So, let’s celebrate this amazing film with a nice shot of Bogart on a ladder with his own 8mm camera looking over a crowd of extras. I’d love to see Bogart’s Casablanca home movies! I wonder if they exist anywhere?

Thanks to Pat Barnett for sending this one along (it looks like he got it from Cineweekly). Click to enlargen!

You’ll be afraid of tomorrow’s Behind the Scenes pic. Very afraid.
