There's A Big DARK KNIGHT RISES Spoiler On The Other Side Of This Link! Don't Click If You Don't Want To Know!

Nordling here.

There's been speculation about who Marion Cotillard plays in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. Sure, her character is named Miranda Tate, but rumors are all over the place that she's actually playing Ra's Al Ghul's daughter Talia. Well, this new bit of news doesn't confirm that, but it does reveal... well.

At My Entertainment World, they've landed an interview with young Joey King, who is in the film, and she let spill a crucial bit of information about her casting: "I play young Talia al Ghul. I can’t give too much away because I promised Mr. Nolan I wouldn’t say anything. There are too many secrets about the character and the movie."

If you look at her picture, she does look an awful lot like a young Marion Cotillard. So, now that the cat is (probably) out of the bag, does that mean that a certain wolf-punching Nazi security sex therapist Darkman will be returning to the film? We've already heard rumors of shooting days with Liam Neeson on the set, so this certainly doesn't dispel any of that. So... looks like Ra's Al Ghul and family will be in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES after all, or at least, his daughter.

Hey, I told you not to click.

Nordling, out.

get smashed to pieces in a train wreck? I thought Nolan would be above this kind of cartoon "reality" where a character can survive certain death. But then again... He's fucked in the head enough to cast Anne Hathaway, so who knows.

    Arkham City Game

    by tomdolan04

is kicking my ass so much right now. I liked The Dark Knight quite a lot but as echoed by a few TB'ers on here, it's quite a...I don't know. Ordeal to sit through? It's bleak, and whilst refereshingly done with stylish flourishes, when the credits roll...there's no feeling of satisfaction.
I do like the 'many shades of gray' mentality of good and evil, but when it's pretty much mostly gray and grim and brutal - I can't say I was particularly rooting for Batman wholeheartedly or Bale's Bruce Wayne, and when that happens there's a bit of a disconnect. Rises looks of a similar ilk. I'm sure it will be a fantastic cinema 'event' but in terms of revisiting it down the line, I'm more inclined to stick on Burtons two and hell even Batman Forever in terms of entertainment. Dark Knight - good film. An ultimately entertaining one? Not sure.
Regardless, Nolan is a very good director and knows how to put on a show.

  • Ras daughter. We are talking about this here in the talkbacks since the the beginning of the production but this time it was actually been confirmed.I guess this is going to be the "twist" of the new movie in the same way like in BB.Which is weak imho,it would have been better if Ras was actually alive than having him in flashbacks and his daughter taking over.anyway.

Some of you guys are way too obsessed with this movie. It's going to be funny to watch you all praise it when it is released (because you won't be able to accept any other reaction) and then see it dissed on here a few months or years later. Just seen this happen so many times and dumb people just fall into the same old behavior patterns. Sure it could be could be anything but it will probably be another avg film like the last two.

    Bringing it all together

    by enderandrew

Christopher Nolan, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and Christian Bale have all said the story of Dark Knight Rises goes back to the first film and wraps everything together. I think most people believe it to be a foregone conclusion that Talia is in this movie, and that Liam Neeson is filming a few flashback scenes to support that. However, one thing that Nolan has done well is stay very true to the Batman themes, and drawn close parallels to well known comic arcs, while placing his own spin on them. Everyone assumed it was a foregone conclusion that Two Face was being set up as the villain for Batman 3. Everyone assumed the reason Nolan had to recast Rachel Dawes is that her character was important in the long run for the trilogy. There are lot of things we can infer about this movie from known comic arcs, but I only trust half of them to play out as we expect. Talia is traditionally a romantic interest for Batman, as is Catwoman. Will Nolan have both, or either play romantic interests right after Rachel's death?

I would have used a different picture of the actress. Something seems a bit off about that one.

  • .....A young Bane becomes friends with the young Talia as he is trained by Rhas Al Ghul, her father. According to plot details posted Bane is shown as a ninja in the league of shadows in a flash back to the explosion at the beginning of Batman Begins, the scarring on tom Hardey's skin isn't steroid abuse or anything it's make up effect to simulate the burn scars from the explosion. Bane knows Wayne is Batman from his time with the league, not sure if the aparatus he wears is because of his injuries or the drug injecter from the comics, guess we'll have to wait a few more months to find that out.

    Cotillard = red herring

    by Mark

Because that kid looks a lot more like Hathaway than Cotillard. Someone suggested that Catwoman/Selina was actually Talia, and based on both that picture and the most recent trailer, I'm betting Nolan went that route.

    by performingmonkey

    Flashback Neeson

    by Mark Anderson

Well, if we have Marion Cotillard playing an older Talia Al Ghul, then it makes sense this child plays her in flashbacks... and then Liam Neeson can still play Ra's Al Ghul without the problem of the train crash. The death of her father would give Talia Al Ghul a reason for hating Bruce Wayne/Batman. Mind you, given the mythology in the comics, there's nothing to say that Talia or the League didn't retrieve Ra's body and use a Lazarus Pit to resurrect him... even after showing flashbacks of the actor, just to throw us off the scent of an actual showdown between him and Bruce to round the trilogy off full circle.

The movie is going to suck anyway

    by twogunjames

Just a gut feeling, but the exploding football field, and the goofy looking mask, and the dancing on the stairs batman has me wondering what in the fuck Nolan is thinking.

  • Was going to be Ras Al Ghul's body, and they were pumping it full of blood from the doctor in one of the first steps in bringing him back to life. The script pages that leaked never specified if the corpse was brought off the plane or not. Sadly, when I saw the prologue, I think they were just pumping the dead body full of blood so that it wouldn't appear the body was dead before the crash. But still, when I read something like "... a body bag is lowered into the plane. Bane takes a device and hooks up tubes to the doctor and to the corpse, pumping blood into the dead body..." I couldn't help but wonder if this was part of the Lazarus Pit process.

    There's nothing new here.

    by jorson28

Though such sites are not always accurate, Ms. King's casting has been noted by sites like IMDB, as well as her role being that of a young Talia. I think what we're in for is a scenario in which Bane is the new leader (or, at least, a sort of "vice president") of the League of Shadows that storms in only after various other characters, including Tate and perhaps Modine and Levitt's characters, have done some spy work for the League. They target Batman, of course, because he is blamed for Ra's' death. The REAL secret is how Catwoman fits into all of this, because even though the recent trailer has her sort of predicting Bane's crusade, nothing says for sure that she's part of the League or that she even fully allies herself with it in the movie.

  • character but i dont know but Cottilard as a european actress fits more the non-american Talia character and that's must be the reason Nolan cast her in the first place.

  • the whole realism that it has been established in the Nolanverse.

I would gladly spend the rest of my life living as her slave. I'd have absolutely no qualms with it. Anyway, I think everyone had put 2 and 2 together and realized by now that Cotillard was Talia. Although, it did always strike me a bit odd that Nolan went for a very exotic French type for someone who is supposed to be the daughter of Liam Neeson. Who is just... blatantly Irish.

  • Jan. 20, 2012, 2:48 p.m. CST

I'm pretty sure it doesn't play out that way, Killik

    by D.Vader

After seeing the prologue, I'm pretty sure the body is just pumped full of blood so that there's blood in the accident scene. It might contradict "realism", but if Nolan could find a "real" way for them to bring someone back to life, I'm sure he could sell it.

    by Kammich

Josh Pence, the guy who was Armie Hammer's "body double" in "The Social Network" was already cast as a young Ra's. And there's also been talk of Neeson filming new scenes. Some have suggested that Pence could be playing a fountain of youth/lazarus pit version of Ra's, but I'm pretty sure him and Neeson are both just playing different stages of flashback. There was also some set reports from the filming in India about Ra's witnessing a child being lit on fire. Judging by the scars and pain-killing mask, I'm guessing that kid might grow up to be Bane.

    so Ra's Al Gul...

    by thisiswhy

so Talia Al Gul resurrects her father in the Lazarus pit... introducing a supernatural element to Batman's world... and they enlist Bane, who's supposed to be Batman 2.0 and destroy Gotham like B Wayne was supposed to in Batman Begins... and then... after Batman kicks ass... at the end... they tie the fantastical knot to introduce-- motherfucking SUPERMAN. now tell me that wouldn't be fucking bad ass. and what if, what activated the Lazarus pit wasn't some weird element named Kryptonite...

There were reports (maybe photos?) a while back from a location that looked to be a lazarus pit featuring the guy playing the Young Ra's with a little Bald Boy. I'm guessing we're getting flash backs where Bane and Talia are contemporaries possibly raised together. Perhaps Bruce Wayne was meant the be Bane's replacement initially. He was looking for a father Ra's a son of sorts. Bane may have wound up MIA I'm guessing.

    Liam Neeson (Ra's) IS RISING!!!

    by alpeter3

Ok, I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone talk about this yet, but if you have seen the trailer, it's pretty obvious that Ra's is returning and if you've seen the prologue, it's all but certain. Think about it.... A we know that the majority of this movie takes place 8 years after TDK. So here's the movie in a nutshell: Beginning, Bane escapes from the cops in the prologue with an army of people willing to do whatever he says, even die for him. Sounds like the League of Shadows doesn't it? Talia hired Bane and either drafted him into the LOS or at least has him working very closely with them. TALIA has told these people to do whatever Bane asks because he's helping do to Gotham what Ra's tried to do in BB. So Bane escapes, comes immediately to Gotham to destroy Batman who he already knows is Bruce Wayne because Ra's knew Batman is BW, which means the LOS (and likely Talia) knew that Batman is BW. So Bane has the upper hand, finds Batman, breaks his spine, and starts to slowly destroy Gotham's stability over 8 years. 8 Years later, BW has been in hiding, no Batman, Gotham is getting more corrupt again, more violent, on the brink of collapse, etc. Comm Gordon gets badly injured in some fight (maybe with Bane, maybenot) and finds himself in the hospital. Somehow he's learned that Batman is BW and he's trying to convince BW to take up the cowl again because he sees the darkness coming. At some point Wayne is trying to find his path which is when he is taken to that prison/dungeon/whatever where he hears that chanting we've heard so many times and asks that guy "What does that mean" and the other guy says "Rise!" How come no one has asked the question, "What is rising???" Isn't it obvious? That's right.... Ra's MotherFucking Al Guhl!!!! He is rising. Yes people, we're going to have Lazurus Pits. Maybe Nolan will try to tweak the pits to be more real-worldy or maybe he's ready to let the series have some supernatural components. BOTH are classic Nolan approaches btw (see The Prestige). Ra's and Talia have been using Bane to help turn Gotham to ashes. This was Ra's plan ALL ALONG! And after the events of BB, Ra's has a major vendetta against Bruce Wayne. He wanted him broken, but not dead. He wanted BW to see Gotham fall before his own eyes, which is why he told Bane to break him, but let him live, so he could see Gotham be destroyed. Plus, trapping him in a train and then throwing the train off of a bridge probably pissed him off just a tad. Long story short, make no mistake. Batman may be the one Rising in the movie title, but Ra's IS the one rising in that chant we keep hearing. Ra's IS the movie's main villian. Bane, Catwoman, and Talia, and even Batman, are just pawns in his plan, and it will be up to Batman to stop Ra's before he can finally take on his full life as the Batman against other supernatural/metahuman villians like Kill Croc, Clayface, Mr Freeze, etc. This may be Nolan's last Batman movie, but the franchise will continue. Now I'm sure someone has come up with this theory already but I just haven't seen it. So there ya have it.

cptrios you're wrong. King looks just like Cotillard

  • I've known this since they began filming. When they filmed in India we knew it as Ra's and the rumor was King was playing young Talia opposite Pence's young Ra's. It was confirmed during the Pittsburgh shooting when we saw pics of Marion commanding the LoS mercs and wearing the LoS outfit.

    Nolans Casting

    by stryfe1986

Hey guys never in a million years would i think of casting Heath Ledger as the Joker, but god damn did he deliver, way more than anyone expected. so this Catwoman might surprise us. Far as Ra coming back..... isn't he suppose to be immortal? if we look at realism maybe right before he crash something happen, one of his goons kicked him off, the way it hit sent into a safe spot. No idea, but should be interesting explaining that one, unless Liam is strictly flashbacks

Ohhh, I see what they're doing...

    by TopHat

Talia and Bane are going to be this movie's Bruce and Rachael; BEGINS has flashbacks of Bruce and Rachael together as children and Bruce with his father. I believe RISES will have similar flashbacks with Talia and Bane together as children and Talia with her father. Rachael in BEGINS stays in Gothum to do good, Bruce leaves and begins to do his own version of "doing good". Talia in RISES stays with the League of Shadows and continues her father's work, while Bane branches off and starts his own "League". Talia and Bane clash with each others idealogies in RISES the same way Bruce and Rachael clashed with theirs in BEGINS. ...And Anne Hathaway is Catwoman.

    by smackfu

Wow, baby rape? That's some random non sequitur right there. Actually I'm not interested because it looks visually bland, it's a rehash of the first movie, Bane is an extremely uninteresting villain (Batman's answer to Venom) Anne Doe-eyes Hathaway is drastically miscast as Catwoman, and it's coming off the heals of a spectacular entry it can't possibly top.
