A Look At UPN's THE SAINT TV show

Published at:  Feb 19, 2000 5:54:55 PM CST

Hey folks Harry here, here's a look at the current rundown of casting on the reconceived modern retread of the classic Roger Moore TV Spy-program, THE SAINT. I have to say, the only way that I would be excited about this show is if it had Jeremy Northam attached... but as our scooper says... he don't likey the telly. Here's the rundown...

As you know UPN has a tv version of The Saint in development under John
McTiernan.I can confirm the following:

The actresses in line for the female lead are:

Allison Hossack

Cynthia preston

Andrea Roth

Francoise Robertson

(do you think they are shooting in Canada?)

Andrea is frontrunner.

The actors under consideration for the saint are:

Jeremy Northam

Greg Wise

Ioan Gryfudd

Colin Wells

James purefoy.

Don't know the frontrunner but jeremy is least likely as he hates tv.

    I Can't Believe I'm First Again!

Jeremy Northam is WAAYY too respectable an actor to be working in television at this stage in his career. However, if the new series is being developed by Mr. McTiernan it might not be such a horrible idea if they have decent casting. Harry, you are one sexy bastard.

This isn't the first case of this poor editing that I've seen on AICN. Come on guys, you have the best site on the net for movie news and reviews... you don't need to be so lazy posting this info. "Please don't mention that" I hope that you have written an apology to this person by now... I can't believe that its still up! There are many times that people write things to you and it is obvious that they have a part of the message that they intend for you to post and another part that is ONLY for you. Try to read a bit more into it from now on. Other than that... great job guys, nice site, good reviews. :-)

    saintly choice

Harry's comment that "the only way that I would be excited about this show is if it had Jeremy Northam attached" indicates to me that he's never seen the A&E Horatio Hornblower series starring Ioan Gruffudd. Mr. Northam is a fine actor, but but based on the work that I've seen by both actors, Mr. Gruffudd is much better suited to the role.

welsh actor to be next bond!

    by big g

Ioan Gryffydd has been paraded around welsh tv lately, even making appearances on welsh news, after the rumours of him assuming pierce brosnan's role in the bond franchise... mabye a tenuos link to the saint, but apparently he was asked whether he would consider the role in the neasr future, this would put him out of the running to do thesaint for upn. but he could always use it as a "remmington steele" kindof stepping stone.
being a major bond/saint fan i think he's too young to play either role but what the hell if they want a welsh man to play the role who am i to stand in the way of a fellow welshman....cool cymru continues!!!!!

  • To me, Moore WAS the "Saint". He is Simon Templar. Couldn't buy the Ian Ogilvy character. I just hope they get the car right. In the books, he drove a white Jaguar, though the Volvo P-1800 was a very cool looking car.

    I enjoy a nice banana.

    by farthead

I realy enjoy relaxing and eating a banana. It is nice to take a load off after a tough afternoon of rearanging my desk or trying on silly hats at the store. Nothing is better then a nice fresh banana to get my mind in a happy place. They are not only good in flavor, they are good for you. I can not stress how much I enjoy bananas.

The series will fail if it is not made by the British.

    by roborob

Only the British are insane enough to make a decent Saint series or even film I mean Look at that pathetic recent effort, Dull or what.

    I have some bananas

    by manback

I also enjoy a good banana, but eating it is the last thing on my mind. Maybe you and I could get together for the X-Men premier, by then I should have my abs in great shape. And the bananas are SOOOOO good in July. Yummm.

    this might be good....

    by tornado_jackson

If its done right. The remake movie w/ Val Kilmer was absolutely a waste of a good series. That movie cost 70 mil. where did all the money go??? There wasn't a single exciting action scene in the entire thing. And the story just sucked completely. This show should rely on good plots like the old Moore series and then it would be pretty cool. Just don't make it too hight tech and generic.
