WitchBlade

Published at:  Feb 18, 2000 7:42:48 PM CST

In all of the confusion of my life, I forgot to put out a call for assistance from Canucks...The WitchBlade series started work in Toronto on Monday, and if anyone has any info, pictures, whatever, I'd really like to check it out.

For those of you who don't know, WitchBlade started out as a comic book, and is now a TV-Movie in production by TNT for release in October.
Here's a brief synopsis:

The story of a New York detective whose search for justice brings her into contact with an ancient living weapon that can battle evil forces, ``Witchblade'' will star Yancy Butler (''Drop Zone'') and David Chokachi (''Baywatch'').

If this movie gets significant hype behind it, and does well in October, there's a really good chance it will become a series. Think of this as halfway between a TV Movie and a pilot episode.

Finally, yes, Oliver Stone originally laid the groundwork for the TNT production, but it is now being executive produced by a former production partner of his, Dan Halstead. As for Yancy Butler, well, I think she could do a decent job. She's probably best known for her roles in Drop Zone and Hard Target, directed by John Woo and starring opposite Jean-Claude Van Damme and of all people...Wilford Brimley, and a short-lived 1992 TV series that I actually enjoyed, called Mann and Machine.

Happy Day,

    No interest

Okay, here's on comics-to-film project that will hopefully go nowhere fast. Beyond the T&A, this comic has nothing at all to offer. Brace yourself for casting suggestions on the order of the recent Josie & the Pussycats Talkback...

    witchblade/the darkness/lady death & evil ernie/AND ANYTHING TOP

    by darthpsychotic

their action figures are excellent too. its too bad that it costars that sum bitch david chokachi, not that im really against him since he needs work since that dreadful baywatchs days are numbered. one thing i admire about david however is he boinked the hell out of that all natural black playmate karin taylor. yancy butler is a good choice, but the witchblade needs THE DARKNESS to play off of. i have a video clip of miss yancy butler, along with several others, showing off 'their stuff'. i hacked into of those SEXKEY sites and got 500mb worth and i plan to offer some of them on my soon to be website to you for free. why? because i love you perverts! :p
thats why the AICN wack pack backs HARRY THE HACKER KNOWLES and EL CRACKER COSMICO!!

    This will suck

    by boss hog

Fuck Witchblade. The comic is a piece of shit soap opera with some big titty drawings. Any show based on this comic will just be some Baywatch knockoff, like Cleopatra 2027. Just stuff for 13 year old kids to jack off to when they get home from school.

Yub, da comics are fanboy jack-off fodder.

    by slaanesh

But Hard Target, tehre's a good movie. John Woo's first American feature with Lance Henrikson and Van Dammit! As if that wasn't good enough, you get Wilford Brimley as a horse-ridin, arrow-shootin, moonshine-swillin, swamp-lovin cajun grandad! Damn, if that aint cool I don't know what is!

    witchblade doesnt suck, that bad.

    by spydaweb

i do agree that shows on tv that envolve chicks as heroines do tend to suck rocks. and i also must admit that whoever cast the drop zone girl was on some major hallucinogens, actually all the roles cast so far stink shit, but i would hold off saying anything bad about it until i see it.

I'd rather see a show of RISING STARS

    by jacob corbin

It's the only Top Cow comic that doesn't filch the excrement out of the anuses of barnyard animals. Maybe I'll watch Witchblade for its camp value, or to wank to every now and again.

    Damn you Monkey_King

Damn you to Hell for even mentioning the title of that vile piece of shit movie. Who else could F UP a story about a blood sucking vampire murderess, starring Taliso Soto, a woman I would shoot my mother in the head for just a chance to suck the mud off her floor mat, and rock legend Roger Daltry, a man my mother would shoot me in the head for just to suck the mud... Anyway, only Corman could F this up, and he did. I had successfully repressed the existence of this film with some help from my physician, some small white pills, and a team of Catholic priests sent in from the Vatican. Then you mentioned this abomination in the face God. BASTARD! May you burn in Hell with a broken back... right beside Corman...

Elcabio... now reverted to rockng himself, while tucked in the fetal position, in the corner of a small dark room, mumbling incomprehensibly...

    Witchblade Series

    by bill_n_opus_fan

Ok, so this is my first posting-sorry for hitting the enter button too soon. I have been watching this site ever since it came out & almost posted several times, but restrained myself. But seeing all the negative talkback about the Witchblade series just made me want to put my two cents worth in. Here's an idea-let's wait till it comes out & then lets cut it to pieces. I personally love the comic & the artwork. If you don't like it, just say, "I don't particularly care for the comic myself." There is no use in saying it is crap. Everyone has an opinion & I respect that. It seems everyone posting here is just looking to get a rise out of someone else(this was the straw the broke the camel's back for me), & I mean the Talkback forum in general-not necessarily this particular one. As far as Witchblade goes, I love the artwork, the characters are cool & the story lines are interesting(I am also a huge Hellboy fan). As for the casting, look at pics of Yancy Butler on the net & she looks just like Sara Pezzini. The girl from American Pie looks nothing like her-though she is awesome. I admit I am a little worried about the casting of Jake, but he is a minor character in the comic, so I am not missing any sleep over it. The thing that worries me is that this is from TNT-the network that axed Babylon 5:Crusade because JMS wouldn't "sex" it up. Regardless, I will withhold any judgement untill after I have seen it. I hope it will be good, but I also hope the best for everything-Episode II, X-men, Clerks animated Series. Not everything that has been "comic" oriented has been good, but not everything has been bad. I promise you that I plan to sit down & watch the movie with an open mind. I think if more of us in these talkbalks would simply calm down & do just that, there would be more agreement & a whole lot less name calling & personal dickering-unless you are into that. Whatever makes ya happy.

    What's with all the venom?

    by kent allard

What's WRONG with T&A? Michael Turner (& Randy Green after him) has drawn the most beautiful women in comics today. However, I think that Witchblade has more going for it than just babes. The interplay between Sara & Ian Nottingham & Ian's boss (name escapes me) is interesting and this has the "possibility" (as remote as it may be) of becoming a good series -- at least on a par with USA's Nikita. And about not wanting to see a T@A series/movie -- couldn't the same be said for GEN 13? Or Danger Girl? Let's see how it goes before lowering the boom, people.

    And what's WRONG with T&A?

    by sith lord jesus

WITCHBLADE may be T&A but it's gooooood T&A. ^_^ Seriously, though, if ya wanna know how such a subject could be handled well on the small screen we need only cast our eyes at XENA or BUFFY. Get decent actors, have respect for your material, put together some good entertaining scripts and boom-ya got it. Lord knows TV could use the help.

I admit I've no idea about the story of WitchBlade but I tend to like all the fantasy stuff (Xena, Covington Cross, etc)

But Hot Damn! They got Yancy for the star?? I've adored her ever since Mann & Machine. Can't figure out why the people over at Xena haven't brought her onto the show yet since she's worked with them before (Hard Target was produced by Sam Raimi and I've noticed quite a number of actors from movies he's worked on appearing on Xena & Hercules).

She was also just on an episode of Third Watch but I didn't know about it til after it was over.
