Joss Whedon's New Film (Not AVENGERS or MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING) Is...
Merrick here...
While Joss Whedon is putting the finishing touches on both THE AVENGERS and his MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING adaptation (details HERE), he's already zeroing in his next movie.
Vulture chatted with MAD MEN's Abigail Spencer (she was also in COWBOYS & ALIENS last Summer)...
...who revealed that she's recently hopped on board a new Whedon project about which little is known at the moment.
Spencer promised that more details would be announced in the next week, but teased, "It’s the most romantic film in the history of time. It’s a supernatural romance."
...says Spencer in THIS piece at Vulture. More as we know more.

Sleep tight, kids!

Ready to have my fears allayed.
-
I'm on board for anything Whedon does, especially if it's his own creation. Not super excited about funny romances, but I trust the Joss.
-
Super excited for it!

Hey, does anyone else hate that fucking "Ghost" movie or is it just me?
by ChickenStu
I seriously DESPISE that fucking film. DESPISE it.

What! He's being allowed to make 'another' movie? God when will it end!!!
by cameron
Hopefully The Avengers will be the cluster fuck i'm thinking it'll be and he'll creep back to the comics - which i think he does well BTW, his X-Men run was pretty good - I just hate the smart ass teen speak he makes adults spew out.
-
The often-rumoured remake of Ghost? Whoopi Goldberg could do with the work.
-
If so, boooring
-
All his characters act exactly the same in every movie. I'm sick of all the sarcastic, jokey dialogue with every character every second. I fear he will do this with Avengers, and for that reason it will suck too, like most (if not all) other Whedon products.

Oh, yes. There are some scenes with her in MAD MEN that are, simply, dreamy.

Buffy is b-level fun. Angel is fun. But Whedonites elevate his stuff to a level is doesn't deserve. I never understood the attraction.

I think Whedon is a fine writer, but a poor film director
by AlienFanatic
I really thought the Firefly movie, Serenity, felt like a TV show, with none of the scope of a feature film. Whedon has a terrific ear for dialog, but his staging makes me think he lacks the eye for large-scale film making. I may be wrong, but from the teasers for Avengers I see nothing, not even the street scene involving cars exploding, that makes me think he's learned how to film spectacle. (And I already loathe the cliche'd "evil guy stares at ground as he rises from the crater" that heralds the arrival of Loki.) Time will tell, but I still think Whedon is best when he lets others handle the camera and he keeps his eyes firmly on the script.
-
Whedon doing Shakespeare? Is he just doing his own version of the story with his own jokey cat-who-ate-the-canary script, or is he making a movie of the actual play? And then he's making "the most romantic movie in the history of time"? I hope it's amazing, and epic, like an astronaut falls in love with a trilobite. Then, the astronaut can hold a boombox playing the song they made love to in the car to win the trilobite's heart and Whoopie Goldberg watches a penny float across a room after a werewolf imprints on the astronaut's baby and the trilobite will fake a loud orgasm at a restaurant and then the string quartet will keep playing while the big ship sinks and the trilobite will yell out, "I will find you!" at the waterfall and then the astronaut will say, "I wish I knew how to quit you," and then the trilobite will say, "You had me at 'hello'," and then the astronaut will say, "No one puts Trilobite in a corner," and then, while Whitney Houston sings "I will always love you," Karen Allen will watch Jeff Bridges fly away in a giant mirror sphere while it snows. And at the very, very end, the little boy will ask to hear the story again, and Columbo will say, "As you wish."

As much as I like Firefly/Serenity, Whedon really comes across like an ego filled jerk...
by ChickenStu
He may think he's clever with his faux sarcasm and clever wordplay in interviews, but to be honest it just puts me off.
-
First Iron Man was good (until Dark Knight came out a month later and made it look like a made for tv movie), second one sucked, Thor was meh, Captain America was even more meh, and the Hulks were both meh. Whedon is an ok writer but shit director. And the trailers for the Avengers aren't very thrilling either. Kind of worried that all the waiting for this project to happen is going to be for nothing. Bond, Prometheus, Dark Knight Rises, and maybe the Nazis on the Moon movie are really all I'm excited for this year. Avengers, just doesn't look like the epic it should be.

haven't we had enough of these already? *yawn*

Goddammit, the original Terminator IS a romantic movie!
by Anthony Torchia

... is the next big movie franchise. It will involve a terminator coming back in time to kill someone, but killing the wrong target. This target becomes a ghost and possesses the terminator, who, through the ghost learns the true meaning of love. But then, the terminator realizes that his intended target was actually this man's lover -- and he can't return back to the future without killing this girl. A second terminator is then sent to follow-up on the first terminator, and the terminator -- accompanied by the ghost -- are now trying to save this girl. After many trials, it seems like they escape, but at the end, the second terminator ends up killing the girl. The girl then becomes a ghost and possess the second terminator -- teaching the second terminator about love. Now back together and sharing the bodies with the now reformed terminators -- and, given that the terminator's jobs are now accomplished. The four decide to travel back into the future where the ghost-terminator hybrids will seek to take down SkyNet from the inside... with love. The movie ends here, obviously setting up for a sequel.

Thank you Awesome-O
-
The point of this article was to say that they don't know what the film is? Huh.
-
it looks likes its shaping up to be a super powered clusterfuck; which could still be entertaing Oh yeah, and how much is Whedon paying these cheerleaders. Drop the pom poms ladies.
-
It DOES souns like Bid Time Return (filmed as Somewhere In Time) Richard Matheson's stuff translates well to the screen. Hell "I Am Legend" has been filmed...3 times? I'm not surprised to see this one up for a remake if it's true. As a geek, it's my second favorite romance, right behind The Princess Bride. :)
-
More mouth to assery than even a Studio Executive's intern can handle. BUT WITH CGI!!!!!!
-
...Glad to hear he's finally stretching a bit. Don't forget to bring your pom-poms to the premiere, boys!!
-
What a revolting proposition. And I have to ask: why is Whedon on a roll now? Firefly was a bomb, Buffy and Angel never rose above cult status with tiny audiences, Toy Story was altered. Is this the usual case of Hollywood throwing anything against a wall and hoping something will stick? All I know is, he's no JJ Abrams. Hell, he isn't even Judd Apatow. I'd say he was more Zack Snyder but he doesn't even have a 300 under his belt. Hollywood mystifies me.
-
I'm going to wait and see. Frankly, anything Whedon works on is likely going to be great, but he's not perfect. And I'm sure all the anti-Whedon flamers here will hate any mention of his name.

It’s the most romantic film in the history of time. It’s a lion."
by spire_walk
Add me to the "Somewhere in Time" camp. If she wasn't just being an airhead and spouting nonsense and the movie turns out to be a romantic reboot of The Shining.
-
A few months ago I saw that Whedon and his girlfriend had moved forward with this romancey script that they've worked on for like over 15 years. It supposedly is called "In Your Eyes." It sounds like a pet project type of deal... which, coming from Whedon, sounds like it could be a little rough on the way down. I love everything the man's done, but to think of what his 'Day the Clown Cried' could look like is, well, I mean, let's just say I can imagine it going a lot of different directions. I think it's got the potential to be pretty awesome though! It's not like he doesn't know how to make stuff that's good...
-
I'm not implying the movie is going to be shelved pushed back or not come out, but it does appear that the marketing for it is very half-assed to put it mildly. Why have they released so little of it so far when it's only 5 months away? What are they hiding for such a hyped up tent-pole title? IS anyone else as confused as i am?

Halfway through this talkback, I stopped and wondered when everyone got so stupid.
by Executor
Seriously. Stop trying to be funny if you're not. This page reads like a bad 3rd grade recess conversation, throwing up lame puns, trying to keep jokes alive that were dead when they came out, and the constant he sucks/no he doesn't repetitions. Ugh. It's sad.
-
And Joss Whedon is just producing, not directing. But those of you that go to actual movie news sites for your movie news know that.
-
THAT'S never been done..
-
...how quickly Talkbackers, who typically loathe populist entertainment, embrace box office figures when it validates their hatred of some filmmaker or film. "This guy should be run out of the industry on a rail! Serenity didn't recoup its budget during initial release, and sure Buffy had legs but it never did more than a five share." The fuck you care? If I showed you the top 100 grossing films of the last 10 years, you'd probably hate half of them. I know Whedon's appeal with critics and fanboys confuses and infuriates some of you, but you really need to learn to let it go.
-
I can understand Whedon's work not being someone's cup of tea, but the amount of vitriol slung at him on this site amazes me. There are far more filmmakers deserving of geek hatred, believe me.
-
There's a Nazis on the Moon movie? Is it in 3D?

Avengers marketing: It's about not pushing too hard TOO early
by ShiftyEyedDog
You dont want people sick of it before it even arrives. They've released teaser trailers, and soon we'll see another trailer I'm sure. But the big push won't come until about a month or so before it opens. Same thing happened with Transformers 3. For such a HUGE film, there was VERY little commercials, etc for it for a long time. But when they started the big push, you couldn't avoid it. That's why it's called a marketing blitz.

Executor is revealed as being the dumbass we all knew that he was. The same kind of person he was complaining about. It's nice to know he thinks he's so above us when he's really just sniffing our asses.

Not a fan of Dollhouse, or Captain Underpants, but Buffy, Angel, Firefly and Serenity were all great works. I understand that many people do not like his stuff, but those who make an extra effort to come here and bash him are extra special ignorant and pathetic.

Please?

...you've always got the good news and articles. Articles like this though...reprints of half-assed gossip...are just lazy, considering half a dozen other sites today (i.e. HR heatvision) had the full article confirming casting and movie.
-
...considering Herc's piece had nothing to do with the casting of this actress. I was commenting on that story. Since this is the talkback for that article. Do you follow? I thank Herc for pointing out that he wrote about this movie way back when...he actually has good follow through and info when he posts things. And I'm not a troll. Everything about this post and the talkback (Terminator 5! Ghost remake!) struck me as insipid considering the facts are actually out there. (Most of them in the Herc article if you connect the dots.)

Word on those two Woody Allen movies you aforementioned. I concur verhemently.

duh! "It’s the most romantic film in the history of time. It’s a supernatural romance." Twilight fans can suck it!
-
Ill give it a chance...but I think those thinking it is going to be a Buffy/ Angel flick will be disappointed. It is obviously a Twilight/Avengers cross over, in which Bella gets smashed by Hulk, and the werewolf dude takes Cap's shield straight to the full moon. All the while eventually joining forces to battle the brilliantly cast Justin Bieber as Super Skrull. Just read that back and punched myself
