I’m not following The Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day, I’m looking for it. There’s a big difference.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!

In honor of that poor, poor car that hit Gene Hackman (it has to have exploded into a few million pieces, right?) on Friday I figured it was time for some more rare shots from one of Hackman’s best films: The Conversation.

Hackman brushed off his recent encounter with a speeding automobile and that shouldn’t come as a surprise to anybody if they’ve seen any of his films, let alone his portrayal of Harry Caul in this film. I’ve talked a bit about it before, so I don’t want to repeat myself, but it always feels to me like Francis Ford Coppola’s forgotten masterpiece.

Coppola made this film between Godfather and Godfather 2 and he was just on fire. It’s an incredible paranoid thriller that’s both quiet and tense. How did he strike that balance?!? It’s just fantastic.

So, this one’s for you, Mr. Hackman. I hope that car crumpling up around you while you were riding your bike didn’t annoy you too much.

Thanks again to Jordan Krug for sharing these awesome shots with us. Click to enlargen!
