Details About Max's Car, And Pics Other FURY ROAD Vehicles, From The New MAD MAX Film!!
Merrick here...
TheAge has a few pics of vehicles from the next MAD MAX film - FURY ROAD - which is still waiting to be made.
Here a look at two of the vehicles - both of which I love - and you can CLICK this image to access another, as well as a brief article about the storage of cars for the film.
One interesting tidbit from the piece:
Also in the collection are several of Max's own pursuit vehicles, made to resemble the ''Interceptor'', a juiced-up Ford XB GT Falcon coupe driven in the original movie. The number of these vehicles suggests Max's car may again meet a fiery end, as it did in Mad Max 2: Road Warrior.
We've known for a while that scripts for two new MAD MAX adventures - FURY ROAD and FURIOSA - were in existence, but late last year we learned that a third screenplay installment also exists. Meaning that if all goes well with director George Miller's latest undertaking (which it certainly hasn't thus far, given the inordinate number of challenges and delays that've plagued the production thus far), we could end up seeing a trio new MAD MAX films instead of just one.
To the best of my knowledge, we've yet to glean the title of that third script. More as we know more...
Thanks to Sloth for the heads up about this!

Is one of the best action films ever made, and along with Raiders of the Lost Ark, and maybe a few others, really raised the bar on what an action/adventure film could be. I wish Miller could get these new films rolling!

I had no idea there was an entire festival dedicated to Mad Max...
by ravenloff
...but I found out last year and I wanna go bad!
-
How high-budget do these movies have to be? Look at at what Road Warrior was...a bunch of semi-motorized junk shot out in the desert. The biggest expense was probably keeping all of them alive while shooting it.
-
While Tom Hardy is awesome, that doesn't change the fact that this feels the same as recasting someone other than Harrison Ford to play Indiana Jones. It feels the same as if an Alien film were made with someone other than Sigourney Weaver portraying Ripley. It just feels wrong. Now, if Hardy were to portray a new character wandering around killing barbarians in Milker's post apocalyptic Outback, then I think it might not be such a blasphemous feeling attempt at more Road Warrior style films. I actually think it could be cool to have a brand new Mad Max style character here. Skip the backstory kinda stuff that we saw in the first Mad Max, and just start this new road warrior's journey as that of a mysterious wandering loner. Keep the title Fury Road, as that ties it into being more of a spiritual successor to The Road Warrior. Furiosa is an odd title though. Sounds like it could be a movie about some pissed off Mexican guy ala Falling Down or Taxi Driver. Mad Mex? Oh yeah, when are we ever going to get a Blu-ray of Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome?
-
Miller, don't fuck it up.
-
In an apocalyptic wasteland, gasoline is the most precious of commodities. Those that live in this harsh world therefore assemble vehicles that get 1 mile per gallon. :) Joking aside, I'm really looking forward to these. I love the Road Warrior.

Mel may truly be a madman in real life, but no one else will ever truly be MAD MAX
by lv_426
Those cars look cool though.
-
at least learn some basic concepts luddite
-
Mel Gibson has always been a lunatic, but I'd still rather see him playing Max. It would be so cool to see a grizzled Max still coping with the wasteland. However, iconic or not, roles are not sacred. We now have a new Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock, and they will never compare to Shatner and Nimoy, in my opinion, but I can accept the new guys as a continuation of the Star Trek franchise I like best. We have our sixth official, and wildly successful James Bond. How many actors have played Batman and Superman? Personally I'll always have Keaton and Reeve stuck in my head when thinking of the respective film series. What about the new guy playing Spider-Man? It's gonna suck to be him in a few months, because that film is gonna be D.O.A. Iconic roles are tough to step into for the actors that did not create them, but Hardy should be great as Max if he slims down just a little. Max is lean and mean, not Bane.
-
I hope we see them wrecked and not via CGI but actually metal crunching impact. The stunts were definitely one of the high marks of Road Warrior... as dangerous as they were, seeing a car turn into a 1000 pieces was spectacular!

I can't recall Miller specifically saying he's going to be Max or if he's another character just set in the same universe? Anyone got a link? He probably will be Max I know and I do think he's the best choice if Mel won't do it. I hope these get made instead of Happy Feet 3..

by openthepodbaydoorshal
I'm sure the old time studio heads had their own prejudices and antiquated beliefs but built the major studios that still thrive today. Do we ban all Warner Brothers movies and Time/Warner product because some old man believed in fill-in-the-blank ? You're talking crazy sauce.

Love the irony that a guy with "freedom" in his name has no respect for Mel Gibson's freedom to be an anti-semite! Not saying I personally agree with Mel's views btw, but it's his choice to believe what he believes. As long as he isn't building gas chambers in preparation for the fourth reich then who gives a flying fuck?
-
sick of folk chastising him for something that happened years ago..He still is one of the best actors working..The Beaver is genius.. If your talking about being racist go and piss on Spike Lee.. He has made a career out of it...
-
I never said anywhere that you wanted to silence him. My point stands. Also, it is also ironic that someone with "freedom" in their name is COMMANDING people here to boycott someone. People know what Mel is all about, it's their choice whether or not they want to watch his movies. You have no right to bark orders at anyone. If anyone is behaving like a fascist it's you. Cunt. Fuck off back to Nazi Germany, Adolf.

He's just appeared TODAY on aicn.... ...AND HE CAN COUNT TO 4! (is it an oblique reference to William Wallace being hung drawn and quartered, because if so, cool. Sadly I think it's just a simpleton who thinks being able to count to 1.2.3. and indeed 4 makes him seem clever)

"Stating what you think" would be posting a message along the lines of: "I won't be watching any of these new Mad Max movies as I believe Mel Gibson may get a cut of the profits. As he is an anti-semite and I disagree with his politics I will not be supplying him with my money" What you are doing is flooding the talkback with lots of FULL CAPS rants barking at us all to agree with your viewpoint and boycott Gibson. That's fascist asshole behaviour. Also, I'd love to know how you reach the conclusion that I am a nazi? Because I did not outright condemn Mel Gibson? Well, much as though I find his political/religious views abhorrent I respect his right to have them. If you had stated your views on Mel Gibson in a similar way as suggested above I would have respected your viewpoint a lot more. Anyway, point stands: You're an asshole, just fuck off and give us peace.
-
Says it all really... Asshole troll, failing badly. Ah well, maybe one day you'll learn how to do it right...
-
How about we discuss the irony of peoles viewpoints and their personal opinions. Someone with a name of freedom1234 but yet condemns one for their beliefs and/or drunken tirades does not actually believe in freedom. They are experts on doublespeak and have an agenda of their own, boycott Mel Gibson. (which I must admit is a small potatoes scheme. Why not boycott a Kardashian or Beyonces baby) Mel is also an expert on doublespeak according to freedom. Mel not only gave us The Patriot (which inspired the American in me) and Braveheart which were all about individual freedom and liberty. But he is a secret Nazi. And his biggest Anti-semitic remarks but yet makes a movie about the most famous Jew of all. But he did make What Woman Want and refers to them all as sugar titts so go figure. At the end of the day fuck your politics or beliefs outside of the films you make. With the exception of Polanski (and other pedo's like him) I only care about what goes up on the screen, not in your personal life. That is all.
-
Im not anti semite at all.. Im not racist in the slightest..Im saying he is a brilliant actor..Im not agreeing with what he said or did but give the man a break he apologised and its been a few years..Go through the hollywood legends and youll find many worse than him... I respect every person beliefs and i dont follow any path of religion..i get my head down and work hard.. If someone is a bastard i dont care where they are from your still a twat...

by CoolerKing72
As a filmaker who is working hard to get some films out this year most actors are twats anyway..All im saying is Mel Gibson is a brilliant actor...You cant take that away from him..Its easy to slag folk off...One of the greatest performances ive seen in recent years is Van Damme in JCVD but he would never get the credit...Hollywood sucks dick and isnt original anymore.. you want a great film dig out some Korean ones..
-
I agree that Mel will always be Max but there is definitely scope for a kick ass movie set in the same universe.
-
I'm hoping his recent involvement at a screening of the MAX trilogy in L.A that someone mentioned in the BTS thread is an indication that he might like to revisit this role. Hardy could play anyone too, Max's son Gyro Guy's son Feral grown up. I'd prefer any of them to Hardy being Max I think, although I just hope it get's made and Mel's in there somewhere.
-
Everyone here has posted worse crap than what came out of Mel's mouth when he was drunk. Also most here have not had sex with a woman or a relationship so do not understand how a guy would feel about leaving his wife for some hottie only to find out the hottie is banging some black stud that your paying to help her career. I give him a pass on drunken comments. A Mad Max without Mel Gibson is going to be another Conan debacle. Plus they can't get money to make the damn films anyway but Mel could get that money : ) out of his own pocket. Make the call and greenlight this project.

His performance i thought was oscar worthy but they wont give him it...just like the shit with John Wayne saying he was a racist and yet one of his best friends who was black and was in The Cowboys with him says he was the nicest, friendliest guy going...I love the Duke.. A great man.
-
Until he graduates from Retarded Grammar Class 101...
-
Your not just giving your opinions your trying to force them on people mel has done so much good work and hes getting shit for 1 mistake.. And for the record passion was a great film and your slamming him for it all he did was tell a great story that depending on your religion could be pure fiction but i dont see you bad mouthing james cameron for making a film about a very real disaster that killed hundreds you dick head!!!

by gary_buseys_upper_half
while they pass PIPA instead. SOPA was intentionally designed to be as inflammatory as possible to keep attention off of the real bill, which will probably slip through in a midnight vote uncontested. And idiots like freedom1234 are playing right into their hands. Or maybe he/she is one of them?
-
Another character/film set in Max's world? Fine. But anyone other than Gibson in the role, and it's just fake. Fake, fake, fake. The character is not larger than the actor here. If that was the case, why hasn't Miller revisited it in the last 25 years? Answer: paycheck. This is not like the other iconic roles @thx1968 mentioned above. Bond, Supes, Spidey, Batman - all characters created decades earlier in another medium and adapted to the screen. Kirk, Spock - a whole generation earlier, with the actors not viable for the same type of role (and far from a settled debate over whether recasting was a good idea). Are the vehicles pictured here neat? Sure. In the exact same way they were before, and a little less so. Set aside instinct; what is there to be excited about? A simulation of something good?

I loved Max's car. I've never been a *car guy*, but maaaan... I wanted that car.

The cars are sort of a campy, over designed version of Road Warrior. That film had a rawness that this design team apparently didn't notice or didn't appreciate.
-
The biggest part of the budget should be going to the insurance policy ;) If those stunts ain't super dangerous, it's not a Mad Max movie.
-
he's not that talkative a hero. He mostly stands around looking cool or scowling. He's not exactly a shining personality. Loved Gibson in the role, but I think Hardy can easily take over and look cool and scowl.

...Mel Gibson's ex-wife. The broken English, can't spell anything, obsessed with Gibson...you're his ex-wife, right? No? Okay, then here's some advice: 1) LEARN TO SPELL YOUR OWN LANGUAGE. 2) Step away from the computer. Walk outside. Breathe in the fresh air. Let go of the anger. Say hello to somebody. Relax. 3) Seek therapy. Seriously - SEEK therapy. As soon as you can. 4) Mel Gibson is NOT IN THIS MOVIE. So why are you telling people to not see the movie - if he's NOT EVEN IN IT. 5) Come back inside. Sit down at the computer. Post the following update to your status on whatever social networking site you frequent: I WILL NO LONGER EMBARRASS MYSELF ONLINE WITH MY MEL GIBSON OBSESSION. Do all of the above, in that order, and then come back and perhaps we'll let you converse with the adults.

they may tag the Mad Max on so the public know but even if it is called Mad Max: Fury Road, where does it say Hardy definitely is Max? Unless you've read the script and can fill us in? Which is what I asked for above, if anyone knows for sure and not for a smart assed smug reply, thanks.

someone mentioned that hardy may not be max in this movie, I just assumed he was. Does anyone know different? I think maybe these movies may be adventures of max, so not necessarily are they sequels, mel was much older than hardy is when he filmed thunderdome I believe..

Say what you want about Mel Gibson, but the son of a bitch knows story structure.
by Dr_PepperSpray
Who cares if Mel Gibson is a drunk, and said a mess of stupid things to the cops who caught him drinking and driving (which I'm more upset about honestly)..... Isn't Mad Max supposed to be a crazy son of a bitch anyway? He's the Anti-hero, not Superman. <P> Fuck, I know Jewish people who would be excited to see Mel in another Mad Max movie, and they KNOW he's bat-shit insane.
-
...he's not one for empathy in his characters and one should always empathise with, and be routing for, Max (if he's to be anything like Gibson's iconic portrayal).

and I think he'll do a good job. But he's not my first choice. Sam Worthington and Jeremy Renner both seem like a better fit. Eric Bana might not be bad either.
-
No retelling of the origin of Max, but also no aim for consistency with the other films. The other films aren't really even consistent with themselves. Just start with Max in a post apocalyptic world, with a voice-over + montage explaining what happened and the conditions of the world.
