Because There Were No Other Good Ideas To Be Found ANYWHERE In Hollywood, We Get...A BRUCE ALMIGHTY Sequel!!
Merrick here...
Universal is looking to resurrect BRUCE ALMIGHTY - the 2003 film which found Jim Carrey's television reporter Bruce Nolan compaining too much about God, only to be given God's powers as a lesson.
Given the current creative climate in the industry, one would logically assume that they'd go back to the drawing boards here and re-build the concept from scratch. However, current plans seem to call for the new film to return Jim Carrey in the lead.
The studio is in talks with the scripting team of Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel ("Hot Tub Time Machine," "Yes Men") to write a followup to the 2003 hit "Bruce Almighty."
BRUCE earned 'round $484 million globally...EVAN earned 'round $173 million. No word on if Morgan Freeman will reprise his God role again, or whether Carrey's girlfirend in BRUCE...Jennifer Aniston...will be back.

Surely Carrey can find an original comedy to do. Failing that. At least another Ace Ventura.

Is he still making like 30 million a film?
-
Or at least give us a story credit, goddamn.

I haven't seen it in about 10 years; I didn't care for it much when it came out. My mind changed when I watched last night. I think it's one of his better movies. It has aged really well.

Truman, ten years plus, out of the dome, married to Lauren, but unhappy now, longing for the more secure world under the dome of his past. He is constantly on the psychiatrist's couch, dealing with paranoia that he is still being watched and the feeling that he escaped one dome for a larger one. In a scene that mirrors the meeting with his father, he bumps into Christof, now a down an out director who know one wants. The story continues. . .
-
Wondering why 2011 had the lowest amount of tickets sold since 1995.
-
And not the good, satirical kind. The religion-friendly kind. The premise for the first one was incredibly stupid, and from what I saw of Evan Almighty, it looked even worse. Not to mention the fact that the title didn’t make any sense since Steve Carell was not given the powers of god in the movie. Should have been Evan’s Ark or something, except then I guess people might not have known it was a sequel to Bruce Almighty, so it would have made less money.
-
Maybe the only Carey character I would be interested in seeing again, and just out of curiosity.

You know i was thinking about the Truman show the other day and how sad is it that it has become a reality to a extent. The Kardashians and all of there bullshit are basically the Truman show. Only they are in on the lie. Sad that this is what people watch nowadays.
-
The last year of Jim Carey semi-relevance.
-
I used to attend three, four movies a month. Most movies are shit these days. Until the box office numbers totally tank, like bringing in 20 million total and damn near zero rental, shit movies will continue to be made. Hell, you can make a case for direct to dvd or direct digital download now the fuckers are so damn greedy. They will find lint in your pocket to get a return. The actors, can you blame them, the right contract they can bring in 70 million from one film. Mel Gibson is making fuck you money from Passion Of the Christ, Tom Cruise the same from the Mission Impossible films. Movies suck for the most part lately.

2003 - oh yeah, the year they killed the Matrix and Terminator
by CARTMANEZ
and Hulk was pretty disappointing too it was like THE BEST year to look foward to but the absolute worst in terms of having movie dreams shattered hopefully 2012 wont do that
-
Despite how they tried to push it as a direct sequel when it first hit.
-
Life just isn't fair.
-
I am not a Jim Carrey fan, but I think the Truman show is an overlooked great film. It manages to examine the world of media, fame and celebrity voyeurism at the same time it confronts and connects it with the directly personal questions we all have about our anonymous, individual lives in terms of personal fears, egoism, our search for meaning and purpose in our world and for genuine relationships. It should be a classic.
-
It's still Carrey's best comedy by leaps and bounds.
-
and one of them was Inside job. the most outstanding documentary I have seen in years. The kings speech Inside job kung fu panda 2 or dreamworks love letter to communist china Pirates of the carribean on stranger tides. Lion king in 3d. and that was it. I avoided seeing black swan. Saw midnight in paris and contagion on download. contagion was very poor and utterly dull. I liked Midnight in paris though. especially the scenes in paris at midnight.
-
Wait. That seems about right.
-
but for some reason I can't hate on Bruce and Evan Almighty. They are 'nice' family films. I'm not religious, my wife is a bit spiritual, but when Morgan Freeman does the speech to Evans wife in the cafe about not being given patience, but presenting an opportunity to be patient - it's nice. <p> Bruce's redemption in the first is also OK. I've got a daughter now whose three and you do appreciate that sometimes it's ok to just have 'nice' films and allowing your genre passions to be put on the back burner. It amuses me most when TB'ers on here slate Evan Almighty (or indeed many films) purely on Box Office revenue. 'LOLOLZ IT WAS A FLOP AND COST LOTS TO MAKES FAILZ'. <p> So? I'll take Jim Carrey's family schtick over hacks like Brendan Fraiser and his ilk. <p> And The Truman Show...was a few inches off being a modern day classic. I can't quite put my finger on it. Bloody good though.

-Promethues gets R rating -Mountains of Madness gets greenlit (and to be rated R) for xmas 2013 release -another Mel Gibson epic greenlit -drop Tom Hardy and cast Mel Gibson as Max again -Spielberg starts work on Indy 5 for release xmas 2013 or summer 2014 -big budget movie of Quinn Martins The Invaders announced - Escape from NY remake scrapped..Q Tarantino teams up with J Carpenter to direct 3rd Escape film with K Russell as Snake -Cameron writes script/produces T5 for Ridley Scott to direct before he starts on Blade Runner 2 make all that happen and i'll be ok with hearing about stuff like Bruce Almight 2 being greenlit
-
i dont. but I have always found carrey funny up until recently. Much funnier then adam sandler. there is some very funny stuff in Bruce almighty. I have seen all his films. the wealthier comics become the less funny they are. comedians are selfish when working with other people. Fionnula Flannaghan observered his when working with Carrey. very funny on screen, not so funny behind the scenes. carrey's scene with steve carell is so funny that it made physically sick. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSWGRfktwmQ
-
Wasn't Evan Almighty the sequel? Did I miss something!? By the way, both movies suuuuuuuck
-
Is it 1994 already?
-
Liar liar is his best film. they all made me laugh. Why Carrey never got an academy awards for that milos Forman movie is a mystery. The man in the moon is Carrey's performance of a lifetime.
-

I wish Carrey would play Tony Clifton one more time for the big screen.
by bodian26
That would make me happy.
-
it makes more sense than Evan Almighty which was basically a desperate attempt to cash in on Steve Carrell's fame at the time. Never mind that Carrell played a character nobody liked in the first film. If they can get Carrey on board, the movie has a chance. Carrey's antics alone can often carry a bad movie with a bad script.

Ace Ventura 3: Alrighty Rises Dumb and Dumbest Twice Bitten Earth Girls are Still Easy How about a Carrey/Sandler mashup...When We Were Funny (directed by Steven Soderberg) Eternal Darkness of the Scattered Soul How about a Carrey/Stiller mashup...The Golden Calf (a biblical comedy written/directed by Kevin Smith, set during the great Exodus from Egypt Carrey and Stiller play two jews who get fed up of waiting for Moses and created a golden calf as a scheme to get women to sleep with them. But soon the plot gets out of hand as people show how easily they can be led to believe in something and worship the calf. Special appearance by Will Ferrel as Moses)

-
FUCK. Gina Davies in a bikini sunbathing was one of those movie scenes which shaped my manhood. I love the original and frankly i am surprised that they havent remade it yet.
-
wasn't the best - I don't like it as a family film in the way I'll give a pass to the two Almighty films. I liked the family dynamic relationships in those two which doesn't really feel the same in Penguins which is the kicker since it sets up Poppers redemption - Cheap visual gags and crass humour in places are staples of kids shows since time began but it's a fine art getting the balance right. <p> The only other film I can think of in the last few years without resorting to Wiki with Carrey was I Love You Phillip Morris and to be honest whilst it didn't set my cinematic world alight, I thought it was an interesting film and choice for Carrey. Yes Man was a fun little adaptation in it's own right too whilst not having a patch on the book, as is almost inevitably the case. <p> He's not as prolific as his heyday but to be honest, who is - that's kinda the point of the term 'heyday'. Even then he managed to kick out a few subversive choices against type like the aforementioned Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine which is excellent <p> I still maintain that whilst lower key these days, I can envisage Carry definitely having a few classics left in him.
-
I'd like to see that. I love the Truman Show.
-
Just to see what he's do.
-
I really liked "I love you Philip Morris!" I've always enjoyed Jim Carrey, all the way from his "Fire Marshal Bill" days, but I really thought he'd turned the corner the last couple of years and had matured into an actor. Sorry to see he's still willing to light his farts on fire for a buck... or a truckload of bucks.
-
The best Jim Carrey will ever be in a movie
-
...seemed like it was. If they are gonna do a third film after a second installment tanked, how about that third Chinatown movie. Iknow I'm in the minority but I liked The Two Jakes and wouls love to see the final film(hell, I'd even go for a Towne penned novel).
-
I'm pretty sure before Mars Needs Moms, Evan Almighty was the largest percentage bomb in Hollywood so far.

Every actor does sequels, once their career starts spiraling downward.
by bat725
See Will Smith and Tom Cruise.

It could work.. I liked the concept of Evan Almighty as a sequel, but didn't care for the execution. I liked Bruce Almighty, but there's no need for a sequel. As with anything, if it's funny, I'll see it on video.
-

and people stayed away from it once they saw the trailer. they thought that as america is conservative family values country. a comedy movie with a family values theme is what americans wanted to see. a man called evan becomes noah and builds an ark. people think he is crazy. but its his mission and he pursues his dream. and they all come together help him bulid his ark. or dont believe him. then god shows up. and suddenly they all believe. evan.

Ace Ventura When Nature Calls and Batman Forever were both sequels to movies. Plus, he would have ruled himself out of any future Lemony Snickets movies if he had said that and his character was a main role.
-

i wouldnt be totally against another BTTF starring [insert current young actor you loathe here].
by CARTMANEZ
providing it wasnt a remake and had Lloyd as Doc Brown (who actually looks like Doc Brown in real life now) MJF could have some sort of cameo. 2015 would be a good year to release it (30th ann plus the BTTF 2 time) i imagine it would deal with Quantum Mechanics, alternate timelines etc (like star trek) explaining why there isnt hover boards and Jaws 19 in 2015
-
Directed by Steven Spielberg, Nicole Kidman recast with Katie Holmes much in the same way Katie Holmes was recast with Maggie Gyllenhaal.
-
Bieber as Mcfly, Jack Black as Doc, Lea Michele as Lorraine, Taylor Lautner as George. Cee-Lo Green to cameo as Marvin Berry. <p> WHO YOU CALLING SPOOK, PECKERWOOD? <p> Yeah I'll take Bruce Almighty 2
-
did we see him die in the basement by Rays mighty hand?
-
With Tom Hanks as Doc and some young british actor who can't do a proper American accent as Marty. "Directed" by Bob Zemeckis with an updated hip screenplay by the writers of Work It.

Didn't Universal put that Kevin Smith MASTERWORK on HD-DVD? I mean I know that HD-DVD is the "superior" format, but there's like what 12 people in the world who still own one.

Bad Boys II another from 2003 needing a sequel. Call it Bad Boys Tutu
by SiouxCitySarsaparilla
-
If there's a film crying out for a sequel from 2003 its probably Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. That was a great film and there's a couple of dozen books in the series. In all honesty it probably deserved Best Picture that year out of the nominations that were made.
-
it was a lot better than Nemesis though

another 2003- im surprised there hasnt been any firm news on a Matrix 4
by CARTMANEZ
yes the sequels were terrible but they dont have to continue the R&R storylines. just start again as if they didnt happen (and obviously with a new cast) - sort of a reboot but still the matrix. do all the stuff they shouldve done for R&R - deeper levels of the matrix, matrix's within matrix's, more Twilight Zoney/Inceptiony like the 1st one, twists one can actually follow Call it The Matrix Rebooted heh

This could work if it was NC-17 and Carrey went totally dark.
by Cletus Van Damme
Come on...sure giving yourself a Saleen S7 and shoving traffic out of your way is cool on day 1, but you're going to start getting bored with all that power. You literally have no consequences to worry about and that's going to twist you. THAT'S that movie worthy shit. Show Carrey getting pissed off that there's a hair in his Taco Bell...he snaps his fingers and all Mexicans (legal or not) are instantly deported. Show Carrey making all women's clothing crumble to dust when they try to wear it. Show Carrey making his prick a mile long so that 10,000 women can lick on it simultaneously. Tip of the iceberg. After all this, the truly corrupt shit starts.
-
Jim Carrey was born to play Plastic Man.
-
They stuck the first two books in the series together for the movie (Master and Commander, and The Far Side of the World), but there's plenty more material to draw from.

Seriously, unwarranted sequels need to stop!
