The Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day goes in! We kill! We kill! Kill!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!
So last night I caught a gorgeous 35mm print of The Road Warrior (under the title Mad Max 2) at the Alamo and planned to run a picture in celebration of one of the craziest ‘80s action flicks. I even found it in the folders to make sure I still had it.
Cut to today as go to find it and I swear to god the little bastard has run off my harddrive. There’s no other explanation, but I spent half an hour looking through all my BTS folders for it and couldn’t. Thankfully I had a backup and it’s just as cool, but now you know my little drama this afternoon.
I’m told this comes from Emil Minty’s blog or Facebook page. Minty, of course, plays The Feral Kid in the flick and has graciously thrown this image out into the interwebs. I would have jumped up to catch it, but I’ve seen Road Warrior and know better than to try to catch anything Minty throws!

Hell's Yeah! And to the best of my knowledge he's NEVER done anything public about MM since '85 and THUNDERDOME! All 35mm prints and Mel's supposed to talk between MM and RW/MM2. Unfortunately, it has sold out but only just recently. But I got my tickets since last month! A friend of mine is going and she's hasn't seen ANY of them! Oddly enough, David Foster Wallace used the name "Emil Minty" for a character in Infinite Jest

After seeing this widescreen on laserdisc I was blown away even though I had seen it on TV and VHS. Kids are so spoiled to see everything ws now .

Not just action films, not just fantasy films. There's nothing else like it, and pretty much everything of today looks tiny and weak in its shadow. Utterly magnificent, and chilling.

Would it be safe to say Mad Max 2 is the original title and only changed for American distribution like Harry Potter and the Philosophers/Sorcerers Stone?

It was a rumor for a while, but they confirmed it at the beginning of the month. It was strange, I was at the theater when they announced it. When the MC said they were doing the Mad Max trilogy there was huge applause. When he said Mel Gibson would be in attendance there was very muted applause. No one really know how to react. The screening is on Saturday the 21st. As of Friday night there were about 100 tickets remaining (I've got mine!). Might still be some available. I think it's going to be a very awkward evening.

Just checked their Website. The screening is sold out. Looks like I got one of the last tickets.

If it weren't for Mel, we likely wouldn't have these movies. Sure the guy gets wasted and acts like a lunatic, but there are people (people in HOLLYWOOD I might add) that have done FAR worse. He's a human being obviously struggling with a drinking problem, not some inhuman monster. Do any of you remember those conjoined twins from South America that were successfully separated a few years ago? Gibson paid for that. Not only did he pay for it out of his own pocket, but it was only discovered that he had anything to do with it when the mother let it slip that he was the one who picked up the tab. He never once sought any publicity, or even mentioned it. I am left with the impression that he did it out sheer kindness. Anyway... I think the guy needs to be cut a little slack, everyone makes mistakes.

Randy, do us a favor and write in to this site after that MAD MAX trilogy screening with Mel. Would really love to hear how the night goes. I'm just really hoping that all this time getting FURY ROAD on the road results in it being a better movie. WHY ARE WE WAITING?!

... or should I say films that he has appeared in, including a couple that he directed; but with all this Mel praise going on, I fear I must point out that he is an alcoholic anti-Semitic raging asshole, and pretty much a hack actor in anything other than action-film roles with minimal dialog, (although I did kind of like his "Hamlet", mostly due to the other performances, what a cast: Glenn Close, Alan Bates, Ian Holm as Polonius, Paul Scofield as the ghost! Whaddya want?) <p> Just figure me as the Polanski hater character in a Mel Gibson TB.

I rather live in a world where you can speak your mind and not worry about it being a crime. I was not there when Mel went off on the cop or his girlfriend. I've gone off on people myself so should I be judged for those words. At the time I felt they were were the right words for the asshole they were directed at. Anyway some of our greatest artist were dicks and assholes so would you rather not have their work around long after they are gone. I still vote for Mel in the new movie. Watching the original would only reinforce that .

I've often wondered what the deal was with DFW using Minty's name. Maybe cause it sounds like one of those strange Pynchonesque names that he liked to use? He used another 'real' name with Kate Gompert and she sued him.
