Herc’s Saturday TV Talkback!! Chat Here About The First New SNL Of 2012!! Plus DOG WHISPERER, MY CAT FROM HELL and the Weekend’s Two GOP Debates!! Who's High-Pitch??
Newt Gingrich is scheduled to tear a new poop-chute for archenemy Mitt Romney, whom Gingrich blames for his plummeting poll numbers. Two new GOP debates are scheduled in New Hampshire this weekend: one at 9 p.m. Saturday on ABC and another 12 hours later, at 9 a.m. Sunday on NBC. Though there was speculation Perry would skip New Hampshire following his poor showing in Iowa on Tuesday, he apparently will appear alongside Romney, Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Ron Paul and Jon Huntsman.
The final SNL of 2011, hosted by Jimmy Fallon, hit SNL’s best number in adults 18-49 since last May’s season finale with Lady Gaga.
Next week Daniel Radcliffe hosts with musical guest Lana Del Rey.

New York, NY – December 19, 2011 – Saturday Night Live celebrates the new year starting off January 7 with Charles Barkley and Kelly Clarkson returning to studio 8H.
Barkley, returning for his third hosting appearance, played basketball for sixteen seasons in the NBA, is an eleven time NBA All Star, an NBA Most Valuable Player, a two-time Olympic gold medal winner with Team USA Basketball, one of the NBA’s 50 Greatest Players in History, and a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame. Barkley is about to begin his twelfth year as a studio analyst for the Emmy Award-winning “Inside the NBA” on TNT and his second year in studio for the NCAA’s “March Madness” college basketball tournament coverage on CBS and TNT. Barkley has written four books.
Returning for her third appearance as musical guest, Clarkson recently released her fifth studio album, “Stronger,” which includes the Billboard chart-topper “Mr. Know It All.” Since bursting onto the music scene 10 years ago, Kelly Clarkson has released 5 studio albums, sold over 20 million albums worldwide, 10 million albums in the US and has had 7 singles in the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. She is the recipient of 2 Grammy Awards, 4 American Music Awards, 3 MTV Awards and 12 Billboard Awards.
Daniel Radcliffe will make his hosting debut on January 14. Radcliffe will next be seen in the supernatural thriller, “The Woman In Black,” due out February 3. Radcliffe rose to international fame starring in “Harry Potter,” the highest grossing film series of all time. He also appeared on the Broadway stage in “Equus” and “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.”
Lana Del Rey will make her debut appearance alongside Radcliffe. Her first studio album “Born To Die,” will be released January 31. Her single, “Video Games” has already received critical acclaim, and Rolling Stone recently featured her in their annual "Hot Issue."
"Saturday Night Live" is produced in association with Broadway Video. The creator and executive producer is Lorne Michaels.

SUCKS.
-
Big fan of sketch comedy. I wish more good sketch shows existed or at least have SNL got funny again. God, it feels like almost 20 years The events at the UCB theaters seem to be the only thing killing it these days. Someone needs to start taping all those and make a show of that. Asssscat is the shit.
-
I seem to vaguely remember he sucked rancid zombie ass the last time he hosted. To quote Ol' Chuck himself he was "turrible just turrible"
-
Jan. 7, 2012, 2:50 a.m. CST
they scheduled a debate on a Saturday night opposit playoff football?
by Xiphos_2
That's some strategic planning right there, good job you knob heads.
-
NBC, what is wrong with you? Charles Barkley again? You've got in your own Peacock Network of Stars Joel McHale from Community, with musical guest critically acclaimed rapper Childish Gambino (aka Community's Donald Glover), already on your payroll. Why not have them host? Now that we know that Community will be back this spring, promote the show!
-
He's not a good actor and he reads from the cue cards, but he's got a likable, funny personality. But there's so many potential hosts out there, SNL needs to try something new. Please no "Secret Word" sketches with Kristen Wiig! Ever again! I wouldn't mind seeing another "What's Up With That," however.
-
Maybe someone can prove me wrong but I can't think of an example. So why does Lorne keep doing it? Do they get inexplicably high ratings or is this a way to score really good comp tickets?
-
You'd think NBC might want to cross promote a quality comedy show on their own network with a loyal but small fanbase. Or is there a Lorne/Chevy feud where Michaels wants to see him fail?
-
Charles Barkley and Petton manning have both more or less killed it in the past. Michael Jordan was awesome too back in the day. I'm sure there is at least one more. Educate yourself.
-
Peyton Manning had some good skits, as did Tom Brady and Jeff Gordon, and Barkely playing one on one with Barney is a classic. But saying that the sports hosts have been "awesome" is a bit of a stretch, in my opinion. They're funny because they're out of their normal element.
-

Xiphos_2, you weren't quoting Charles Barkley. I'll help you out with this one.
by I_Love_LanaLang
Rather, you were quoting comedian Frank Caliendo who does an impression of Barkley. I'll chalk it up to Caliendo doing such a persuasive impression of Barkley that you were completely fooled and believed it was actually Barkley uttering those words. You should send a note to Caliendo and tell him how much you enjoy his work. I think he would appreciate it.
-
Each and every one of them had an episode overall much better than say, Katy Perry or January Jones or many many other "entertainers" So I don't really think awesome is that much of a stretch. I think people take hosting SNL for granted and don't realize how much hard work it is to not suck complete ass.
-
The head of NBC entertainment apparently said yesterday that "Community" hasn't been cancelled and will definitely be back.
-
That's not new. NBC has said all along (and we long ago reported) that "Community" would be back later this season.
-
This is Kelly Clarkson!
-
but then he was surrounded by that fantastic cast and their (often) great writing.
-
One of the funniest bits ever. Classic.
-
Joe Montana had a great show, and I also agree about Peyton as well (that United Way short still cracks me up). Definitely disagree on Barkely though. His last hosting gig was really really bad.

Wrong fuck hole that's how Barkley pronounces the word but I wouldn't expect a rent boi like you to understand that that you bloody hatchet wound.

The only thing Barkley ever did that was funny on SNL was play Barney in basketball
by Rob0729
And that was like two decades ago.
-
C'mon SNL....Charles Barkley.....sure, generally people like him....he's got a naturally funny personality....but most would agree he's not cut out for this sort of thing. SNL should always strive to put on "personalities" that are both timely and talented.... Individuals with talent that lend themselves to the quality of the sketches. Charles isn't timely....aside from a few recent WeightWatcher commercials or talented (in relation to sketch comedy). He's a funny interview on talkshows (which is a treat) but SNL(AGAIN) C'mon....
-
Sure, invite Louie CK to throw a free show at a Lakers game. People are qualified for different things. SNL has a hard of enough time making comedians funny.

Xiphos_2, you clearly don't understand what I was saying.
by I_Love_LanaLang
While Barkley does indeed speak in a noticeable mush-mouth manner, you simply repeated Frank Caliendo's version of Barkley. You knowingly borrowed from Caliendo. You should be honest and give credit where it's due. I'd appreciate it if you would tone down the racist comments concerning Ms. Kreuk. You would also do well to refrain from using so much vulgarity in your posts. Do you understand?

"Waikiki Hockey" was great.

by Hey_Kobe_Tell_Me_How_My_Ass_Tastes
you want alec baldwin every damn week!
-
We're all black friends.
-
It's just equally painful to watch an athlete try to act or be funny as it is a nerd to score a touchedown in the Super Bowl. I think that's fair.
-
funny also! shaping up to be a good episode!

fucking break out in hives and start screaming - THIS IS A MOVIE SITE WHY ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT SPORTS? I HATE SPORTS! I dont see you singling out other groups who might suck being snl hosts and not all athaletes stink, although chuck is overrated as being funny and is wooden as hell, still there have been a lot worse on snl -but he does stink.
-
Black guys in drag be funny!
-
I think Barkley's likeable as a personality, but golly he sucks.
-
Jan. 7, 2012, 11:23 p.m. CST
looks like a black chynna - if chynna was actually a woman pretending to be a man pretending to be a woman
by Hey_Kobe_Tell_Me_How_My_Ass_Tastes
that fucking made sense while i was typing it, this does suck
-
This is like a parody of a bad SNL as imagined by the Simpsons writers. The lesbian sketch was like something out of a frat house talent show.
-
and which are the sketches. "Man on a Ledge" totally looked like a bit.
-
Jan. 7, 2012, 11:27 p.m. CST

Shouldn't someone as famous as her have a wardrobe consultant to insure she doesn't dress like that?

is there a reason they have two guitar players for whatever she's doing? And the keyboard-guitar? Is it 1987 already?

-
Jan. 7, 2012, 11:44 p.m. CST
so this is a deliberately unfunny skit that they hope is funny because it aint funny?
by Hey_Kobe_Tell_Me_How_My_Ass_Tastes
i could write that - I have written that

That could be the quote of the night.

Ok, I think I've seen my SNL for the year. I think I got the gist.
by Mugato5150
-
Oh. No he isn't.
-
Heh, Barkley kinda rocks for a guy who can't read cue cards very well.
-
And she has the shoulders of a linebacker.
-
Apparently. And yeah,shes....curvy. But I would still WRECK THAT if given the chance. She looks like she'd be kind of freaky.
-

Herc, I love ya, I really do, but the SNL article entry "TB poll: did SNL stop being funny before or after this sketch?" has become maybe the most annoying single aspect of AICN
by TheSeeker7
I think we get it now.

Jan. 8, 2012, 12:21 a.m. CST
and well I guess Kelly Clarkson's become Hollywood's version of "fat" unfortunately (where you're a disgusting slob if you're a pound over 110)
by TheSeeker7
I'm not watching this SNL episode, but it occurs to me I've seen footage from her other places recently, she's pretty much entering simply "average girl" territory everyone else in the country. All the fanboy geeks love to pour on the 'fat' and 'pig' labels on her to make them feel better about themselves, I'd still quite happily make sweet sweet love to Clarkson precisely how she is right now. lol
-
Still holds up well even though it was done in the 77 season. The skit where Fran says black men make lousy quarterbacks is because they aren't smart enough still stands out in my memory.
-
Jay Pharoh actually had something to do in all of those, imagine that. I'm gonna start a "Free Jay Pharoh" campaign.
-
In the real world, not really. Trust me I've been to a lot of malls. I've seen REAL fat!
-
She's got the hips and thighs going on like Nicki Mihaj has the ass. Only, what were the light areas on her thighs with the black dress? Was that like see through lace pulled taut or was she eating corn puffs and wiping her hands on her thighs?
-
She's got the hips and thighs going on like Nicki Minaj has booty. Only what were those white areas on the front of the legs on that black dress. Was that like see through lace stratched taut or was she eating corn puffs and wiping her hands on her thighs?
-
I posted the first one and the comment didn't show up. AICN seems to work even weirder now than the last time I was here.
-
What exactly is he promoting? From what I can tell his career currently consists of being boring on talk shows. Really though, who is Charles Barkley's audience? Who is sitting there thinking 'I wish Charles Barkley was on tv right now. I really can't get enough of watching a quiet, possibly brain damaged man look down at the floor and mutter in a barely audible fashion'?
-
Peyton Manning was damn funny. The thing with him coaching the little kids was hilarious.
-
It was, but also felt wrong. Don't know if the AVAs actually do an "in memorium", but you have to think if they did it'd be largely populated with mostly forgotten "stars" of all ages and varying longevity in the industry, dead from complications from STDs, drug overdoses, and suicides. That said, I did get a chuckle out of the screenplay with the entire scene being two lines of dialogue, followed by "Then they do it!".
-
I came across a singer who seemed familiar performing on some show. She was wearing fishnet stockings and a short skirt (or short shorts), a rather risque top, and big, teased hair, gyrating on stage like a hooker in heat. I said to myself "man, Kelly Clarkson's gone really slutty". A few seconds passed before I truly recognized who she was. I realized it wasn't Kelly Clarkson, but rather Miley Cyrus. With that cleared up, I thought "yeah, that doesn't surprise me".
-
Good for her - she's still hot. She could stand to loose a few pounds, imo, but she sure as hell ain't fat.
