You've Waited Long Enough! THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Theatrical Trailer!
Nordling here.
Finally saw this last night (I have yet to see the 6 minute prologue footage) and it looks at first blush that Christopher Nolan sticks the landing. I'm very happy that Nolan is ending this story. One of the aspects of comics that always bugged me is that the stories don't have as much resonance because the stories never end. The characters go on and on. Which is fine if you're selling issues, but from a storytelling standpoint it must be a little frustrating. Here it is, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES theatrical trailer in all its glory (thanks to Coming Soon for the embed) or you can click on the Apple link for the HD Quicktime version:
Nordling, out.

Guh!
-
More intense, less lameness. Catwoman is fairly laughable. I am done.
-
At work and it won't play. I guess I can wait two hours.
-
am i the only person who doesn't like these trailers so far for this film? i am sure the film will be good.. but these trailers just don't work for me
-
Mangasm!!!!! I am officially sold.
-
Looks fucking brilliant.
-
TRUTH. Really wish that WB would give Nolan and Bale a billion dollars to do at least 2 more sequels! There are so many great stories still left to be told by Nolan. That and I wish for some sort of Batman cameo in the upcoming Superman. Fuck the notion that Nolan says the two characters live in different universes.
-
Now I feel really good about this, not that I felt bad before.
-
the trailer is fucking awesome and TDKR is gonna own everything and everyone.FUCK !!!
-
It looks great and average at the same time from the trailer. I think I'm just not as excited as last time - let's face it, nothing can top the Joker in a Batman film. I'll definately be seeing it, though - how can I not?
-
It looks Great!... Remember guys its just a trailer, lets not start hating on it.. Its the 1st real trailer...
-
Anyone who says that Catwomen isn't good in this really needs to get their eyes and ears fixed cause your fucking retarded. Please don't ever become a director because you wouldn't know a good take if it bite you in the face.
-
Now THIS is how a comic adaptation should look like. Sony, I'm pointing at YOU!
-
It has potential to be the best, I think. At least it looks like it is going to have a grander scale. I actually liked the way Bane sounded.

Were they chanting "march on Gotham City"?
by KEVIN_COSTNERS_RECYCLED_PISS
You know a trailer does it's job when you don't even see Batman till one minute forty into it and you're not bothered.
-
probably the cops escorting Dent. Helicopter pilot etc.
-
was better than anything I've seen in the last 20 years in terms of sci-fi...holy shit Thursday can't get here soon enough
-
Limping towards that silver dish! You can see his reflection, the man gets fucked up in this and yes I am aware that rhymed!
-
Not quite sure how you can hate on this as a movie fan or esp. as a geek. This is everything we want superhero movies to be. I am just as excited about this one as any other chapter Nolan has done. The cast looks amazing, my fears about Hathaway are over now, she nails those lines. Trailer is well cut, tells its own little story in 2 mins, shows us just enough. Money shots - Batman with a gun/blaster thing! THE FUCKING BAT COPTER THING!!! This could top the batpod in Dark Knight. And I like Bane's voice here too, it's intelligible and foreboding, I don't hear an odd accent. Maybe they will fix from what people are saying. I'M ALREADY IN LINE!! FUCKING WIN!!!
-
But I soiled you as soon as I saw Wayne with the cane. :D
-
He's a little difficult to understand. Looks awesome, though!
-
I don;t know what he said. But the voice is killer. just clean it up at bit.
-
Bow Down… when THE DARK KNIGHT RISES comes to town. Bow Down…. when we theater bound …. Bow Down… Cuz I ain’t no hater like you! Bow down to Nolan who’s greater than You!
-
That's not a plot hole the size of the hospital has nothing to do with the plot. I swear some people will find anything to bitch about.
-
Bow Down… when THE DARK KNIGHT RISES comes to town. Bow Down…. when we theater bound …. Bow Down… Cuz I ain’t no hater like you! Bow down to Nolan who’s greater than You!
-
but what the fuck is bane saying??
-
To hit the refresh button every ten seconds and scour the internet for tid-bits on something they they claim to not even care about. As enthusiastic geeks, are our passions sometimes out of proportion and enthusiasm at times hyperbolic? Sure. But that's what being a geek is all about. But to spend that same time and energy (sometimes more) to crap on something is beyond pathetic. You know why? Because you will be seeing the movie JUST LIKE THE REST OF US. And if you're not going to see it, I beg the question: What in the hell are you doing here??
-
He says it's the priority because Dent is there.
-
Anyone who doesnt like this trailer obviously doesn't give a shit about the movies story and tone, they just want to see things blow up. This trailer was fucking epic. I'm sick of seeing every shot in a movie in its trailer. Nolan is a genius for showing so little. God bless him. Matalo Matalo Bane Bane!!!!
-

Trailer looks fantastic! Apple sux balls, so slooooo, watched it on You Tube instead.
by cameron
I guess it's the cool nerdy thing to hate on Nolan, although i'm at a loss to see why? This looks great, very exciting, lots to take it. Hathaway looks and sounds very shmexy. Like the little dance with Wayne, Nolans nod to Batman Returns when Wayne danced with her under the misteltoe? After watching the campy Avengers trailer this has me way more excited.
-
That Ra Al Gual's reflection in the silverwear at 20 seconds into trailer. LOOKS FUCKING AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
That trailer was bad ass! I saw a crappy bootleg of the prologue, which was awesome.... but does anyone know if they plan to release that on the web officially?
-
He asks a question, sounds like "What are they saying?" and the guy next to him answers, what are they saying? This is JUST before the football field implosion scene.
-
well said zombie
-
This will blow minds! Go Bane, Go Catwoman!
-
The trailer looks great! :)
-
"When Gotham is in ashes, you have my permission to die"......Nice!
-
Bany Says: When Gotham is ashes, you have my permission to die.
-
Gotham General was the priority because that's where Harvey Dent was.
-
is pretty cool because he wants to make the Bat suffer, don't just kill him right off and then take over the city, he wants to make Bats see the destruction of his beloved city before his eyes, and then kill him off, like torture before death. Cruel as FUCK!
-
Cool, at least Nolan is giving a nod to the best Batman film made so far.
-

Is it a police raid? I wonder why he goes to jail. Also, I'm in the camp that thinks the reflection is Wayne's in the dinner dish (and walking with the cane), but I could be convinced otherwise.

Ok Bale says "What does that mean?" in the prison..
by Flames gotta Eat
and the guy next to him says what? "Prize"? "Fries"? Is Bale ordering a combo meal? Prison food does suck, I don't blame him for wanting a Whopper.
-
...but even if not, I'm sure such will get their rocks off watching rich people pulled out from cowering under their buffet tables.
-
But then, it's Nolan. What'd you expect? Snark-tastic Avengers-flavored cheese? On second thought, though - Avengers does have Hawkeye, who brings a boy scout badge-earnable weapon to combat alien invasions. That's not ridiculous, right?
-
You have my permission to die.
-
In Nolan I trust. This looks amazing. I didn't think even he could pull off Catwoman, but I'm sold so far. Call me a geek though, but unlike the trailer I am indeed hoping this movie has a lot of...Batman...in it.
-
A kiss is even deadlier if you mean it.
-
Thought it was pretty clear.
-
it's actually my favourite, but after blue velvet, that is his masterpiece and always will be
-
he says, "when gotham is ashes, you have my permission to die"
-
I wonder if Nolan made it while doing the same.....?
-
but playing in the same universe as Begins and Dark Knight. I like very much that it looks and feels a bit different from Dark Knight. It seems very much its own thing and I appreciate that, it adds to the excitement. And who knew Gotham has a football team? It'd be funnier if their colors were purple and green :)
-
and by a little, I mean A LOT.
-

-
Banes voice. I honestly cannot understand half of what he's saying. I watched the best looking copy of the shitty quality prologue, and I couldn't understand half of what he said in that either. Hopefully this will be fixed in post production, and the audio from those scenes wasn't complete yet. Looks amazing tho.
-
We all do! So we'll all be there to see it July 20th, 2012. And then we'll say it's the best movie ever! For about six months. then we'll say it's overrated crap.

...but like a lot of people...not really blown away. Not that it's a bad thing...I don't remember being blown away by the Dark Knight trailers either...and I loved that one. I think that the movie is already sold one a lot of people. It doesn't really need the trailer to be jaw dropping or show all the neat parts to get the asses in the seats. I think it's more just to remind people, who will be seeing it no matter what, that it is in fact coming out.
-
We'll be hearing this chants a LOT on marketing material until July.

Guys what is the answer to Bale's question in the prison scene?
by Flames gotta Eat
-
seriously do people really struggle to hear what bane is saying? maybe his voice will be higher in the mix for the final theatre release but i love it. I love the trailer too, it hardly gives anything away except that Bruce/Batman is in serious trouble this time.
-
I think the guy in the prison replies "rise"
-
For this years Buffalo Bills!
-
awesome.
-
The most terrifying part of the trailer is when those prisoners in orange jumpsuits come out on the football field. Maybe it's the chanting... I don't know but that was pretty frightening to me. And what Bane says to Batman.. or is it Bruce? I'll have to watch it again. "When Gotham is ashes.. you have my permission to die."
-
Nice score, Hines! Good awareness! Although I'm sure that play is under review.
-
"Rise" very cool and fitting. Looks intense, that home invasion scene is serious. And I like that Bale looks vulnerable in his shots here, he looks scared and beaten. I think we'll see the Bats get more of a beating than in any other Batman film with this one. Summer can't come soon enough!

-
Rise
-
1. The "hockey-pad Batman" 2. The judge 3. The commissioner 4 and 5. "Harvey" and "Dent"
-
Number Zero - Bane, 5 yard penalty.
-
man does it hold back on the money shots...joe and jane sixpack may still be unaware that catwoman is in this after the trailer and they certainly aren't any more aware of who bane is... not saying that's bad...but wb is going to want to promote the villains a lot more in the next few months if they want this to do anywhere close to tdk money that said...this trailer gives the impression that we're back to a bruce wayne centric story...and that's a good thing
-
Tha's not a raid. It looks like the citizens of Gotham are rioting and over throwing the rich.
-
Bane: When gotham is in ashes, you have my permission to die.
-
Bale: "What does that mean?" Old man: "Rise."
-
He'd probably have Bane do some Tebowing after putting a beating down on Batman.
-
Alright, i see where this is going. This is how she's a grey area character. Doing some bad things for what she believes are justified reasons (beyond selfishness). I like it.
-
The way the TDK trailer focused on Joker.
-
take a generic looking heist movie with a sci-fi angle add (a mediocre) Batman viola, instant fanboy hard-ons The damage of the Burton and Schumacher years is going to take a long time to cleanse. Maybe with the next go-round the healing can begin.

This looks great, finally someone has the balls to end a franchise.
by Max
I think its great that Nolan's series is going to end instead of running itself dead with movie after movie to just make money. And thank you Chris Nolan for not tacking on the 3D like everyone else these days. 3D is killing movies that could have been good if they would have used the "3D Budget" for something else like Nolan does, i.e. making amazing moving sets like in Inception.
-
having watched this new trailer and seen the leaked photos of Batman fighting Bane on the streets of Gotham, Im pretty certain that they will fight each other twice in the movie. There is an offical shot of Batman standing by a waterfall or water outlet and Bane has his arms outstretched. His arms are bare except a wrist band. Now I think this is where he beats the crap out of Batman and rips his mask off. In the leaked shots of Batman fighting Bane outside on the court house steps Bane has a long sleaved shirt on. I think this is a second fight where Batman beats Bane, probably near the end of the movie..... unless of course the out door fight happens first!? I guess we'll have to wait until next summer to find out
-
It'll end the Nolan version of Batman, but I kind of doubt we'll ever see another Batman film again. Good to see his version possibly go out with a good film instead of some trash.

No, it's not ending the franchise -- it is supposed to open to a new one
by HornOrSilk
In other words, this is the end of Bale, but the start of a new Batman. The Batman rises -- and takes on the mantle of Ras -- so that new people will always rise to take on the mask. That, I think, is what we will see. Batman will be the new Ras. The only ending possible.
-
I'm going to see Dark Knight Rises, of course, and it will be very good, I'm sure. Still, the seriousness which Nolan has approached the Batman material has worn me down. I want a Batman that I can take my nephew to go see. Does anyone out there seriously believe that Burton's Batman Returns is "darker" than The Dark Knight? All these films focus is on Bruce Wayne's duality and obsession with justice, when they're missing an important piece of the puzzle - he digs it. Bruce Wayne is an adrenaline junkie that gets off on his adventures. I want to see that.
-
.... of course someone will make another batman movie. But I don't see Nolan making anymore.
-
I know with today's digital file culture most people don't care if films have the look of tv shows, but at least there's still a few directors out there that embrace film.
-
Watching this and the other trailer, this is what I gleaned; 1. Gotham is in a state of relative peace. 2. Bruce Wayne is in some deep shit-per Alfred's impassioned speech. 3. Bane kicks the shit out of Batman. 4. Wayne is limping after his ass kicking. 5. Wayne is lying in a prison cot, with Bane gloating over him-notice his short beard. 6. Wayne is still in some sort of prison (Chinese, perhaps), but time has passed as his beard is longer. Also, the gent next to him who translates the chant-could that be Alfred? 7. Someone breaks into said prison via the shaft/well (perhaps this is Bane and his henchmen, come to gloat at Wayne). 8. Wayne escapes by climbing up the shaft (feel free to insert penis joke here). 9. Bane has been spreading chaos in Gotham. 10.Wayne becomes Batman again, after Gordon's sick bed plea. 11.Final confrontation on the streets of Gotham. Discuss.
-
I am gathering that in the last 8 years batman has been more or less retired and during those 8 years something has happened to Bruce where he has injured his body. hmmmmm can;t wait.
-
The OWS movement is now more unpopular than the Tea Party, lol.
-
...haters gonna hate. It's all you guys are good at. So, what you doin' on a discussion board for a movie you've already written off? The answer is that you feel belittled and bitter in life and you've come here to try to spread some ill-will. Enjoy being a malcontent nobody.

Was the party shot in the old Arkham in the Narrows? I thought I saw bars on the balconies. So Wayne and Tom Conti, who I'm guessing is another rich Gotham guy, get imprisoned in the new Arkham, built post Batman.
-
Seriously. No jail would be built like that. And: they're saying "Rise".

Really, the Batman Rises is Batman Beyond. Even the cane shows it.
by HornOrSilk
Really, it's going to combine Batman Beyond with the idea that the Batman becomes something handed down so that the Batman always rises ..
-
Off the pig....long live the 99%.
-
For real. This looks a little like a retread of themes played out in the first fillm. Gotham's corrupt, must be destroyed, blah blah blah.... Ok, so what's so corrupt about Gotham as opposed to any other city? That never was really answered to my satisfaction in the first film. It was simply stated as fact and as a contrivance to give Ra's a reason to wreak havoc. And now, it looks like they've brought it back and flavored it with an "Occupy Gotham" coating. But I gotta give Nolan credit for at least creating two interesting Batman movies so far. Not all that logical, particularly the second one but entertaining. And if he really does kill off the Bat, I'll give him points for having the balls to actually end a story, which is something Hollywood doesn't understand anymore. But Bane actually looks SMALLER than Batman. That's a huge deviation from the comics.
-
Dec. 19, 2011, 2:08 p.m. CST
fah-cue but the "Lazarus Pit" is going to be more "realistic"
by HornOrSilk
It's about making it appear the Batman comes back from the dead. Following the example of what we saw in Batman Begins with Ras -- Bruce will make someone else take on the mantle of the Bat, starting the tradition which will allow Batman to "live forever."
-
Whatever, dumbass, I was commenting on the fanboys, not the movie. I don't have an opinion of the movie since I haven't seen it, but I will, and I expect to be entertained for a couple hours. Sorry if my lack of slobbering all over this thing like some kind of sycophantic nutjob offends your sensibilities, but I am not, as you say, a 'hater.' Enjoy being a douchy retard.

Haha... These haters actually make me laugh. Typically, they are just annoying. This time..
by Tank Williams
They are comedians. There is absolutely, positively nothing to complain about here. This trailer was cut fantastically! Spoiled nothing, but gave the viewer a nice sense of what we can expect next summer. Oh... and the movie looks balls-to-the-walls fucking awesome. Haters can take a hike... This movie just shot to the top of my list.
-
Count my ass in an opening night seat!
-
Bane's voice was utterly incomprehensible. On that trailer, I thought it was actually much clearer. Either they've cleaned it up already (which I guess is possible although unlikely given the logistics of doing that so quickly), or the prologue was just a bad example of how understandable Bane is overall in the film. Or vice versa. Hurm.
-
...to Batman Returns with Bruce and Selina dancing at a costume party. (Although the original version of that scene had the clever touch of it being a masque party that only Bruce and Selina came to without costumes -- because their costumes are their real faces; for them, Bruce and Selina are the masks...) <P> Anyway, Nolan has always interwoven his films with references to classic Batman material, from storylines to iconic imagery pulled directly from comic panels -- Dark Knight had plenty of nods to Long Halloween, O'Neil/Adams and Englehart/Rogers Joker comics. I expect Dark Knight Rises will have a healthy dose of the Knightfall storyline from the mid nineties and I only wish someone could go back and show the thirteen-year-old version of me this movie, because while I'm sure I'll love it, he would have gone absolutely apeshit!

I know right? They should have pumped the plane noise higher in the mix and added subtitles for everyone, like the Pink Room scene in Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me.
-
Of COURSE she believes in taking from the wealthy.
-
And it was fucking LOUD!! Cool to see the Gotham Knights in the trailer, but I'm still worried that Catwoman will somehow suck. May be the next thing Hathaway destroys, after the Oscars of course.
-
Those abseilers are rappelling DOWN the well into the batcave.<p> Bane with arms outstretched fighting Wayne in front of the waterfall at the entrance to the batcave from Begins.<p> This happens in Knightfall doesn't it?<p> Also, the convicts are escaping from a prison. There is a prison gate destroyed behind them. Doesn't Bane use a prison break from Blackgate and Arkham to wear down Bats in Knightfall before taking him on?<p> Wayne gets his ass handed to him in his own cave. You can see that from the trailer.<p> What is the betting that he is exposed as Bats and put in prison for it at some point?
-
WOW this movie looks so fucking crazy. Bane looks badass. Selina Kyle is smokin hot. I swear this movie might be one of my most anticipated of all time. Fuck anyone talking about "low standards" I'm constantly amazed by you contrarians and haters on here. I've come to hate comic book movies in recent years, but Nolan's films are just so far above anything else in the action/superhero genre. Also, you're not supposed to understand the chant. It's just a chant--gibberish.
-
Seems like it might tie in with a theme from the movie.
-
If that's what happens during the game, I can't wait for the halftime show.
-
slobber some more, I want to go for a swim I'll be over here, patiently waiting for the release so I can make an informed opinion and not sound like a fucking pentecostal on hallucinogens.
-
I'm so happy that a Batman trilogy is being completed by a true filmmaker and story teller, and not some generic cookie cutter. This movie is going to be amazing.
-
awesome.
-
Look, in the Nolan-Batverse the Joker was just a batshit crazy anarchist who got off on chaos, completely insane but with frightening method in his madness.<p> Looks to me like Bane is some kind of professional terrorist. Like Carlos The Jackal. He causes turmoil by both causing carnage and planting ideological discord. Backed by the League of Shadows? Maybe.<p> If he is, he has had 8 yrs, according to reports, of indoctrinating the Gotham criminal underclass with his ideology and recruiting convicts putting the pieces in place for his assault on Gotham and/or Wayne.<p> THAT is what the chanting is about. 'Rise' indeed.<p> Either they do, or The Dark Knight must, to stop them. More duality / escalation which has been the theme of these films.

my favorite thing about this trailer. I'm starting to really dig the direction they went with him. Not sold on Catwoman. Nolan intended Bane to talk the way he does. If you can't follow a Batman movie unless you can understand 100% of Bane's dialog, you have bigger problems.

Is there a transcript of the 10 minute teaser, with dialogue?
by Orbots Commander
Because I watched it, and liked the big Bond-ian scale and crazy aerial stunt work, but fuck me, I didn't understand a word that Tom Hardy as Bane, said. Is there a dialogue transcript floating around online?
-
I'm a little underwhelmed at this point...I trust Nolan will deliver the goods but I'm not feeling it like I did with Dark Knight at this point...I like Anne Hathaway but she looks simply awful in this...Bane is a question mark as well...Marion Cotillard looks like a nice addition (and gorgeous as usual) so hopefully the R'as al Ghul story will make this interesting even the 6 minute IMAX screening was a little blah compared to the opening bank robbery IMAX scene in the previous movie

The trailer was underwhelming. I'm hoping for the best, but this looks like the series is going out with a whimper like X3. The Joker made the last movie great.

I bet since it is the conclusion, one of the last scenes will introduce Bruce Wayne to Dick Grayson. Unless WB plans on continuing the franchise Robin-less.

LOL LOVING that these movies are pro-right wing, eat it haters!
by Henri Pouper
So delicious that so many of you godless, lefitst nancy boys love these movies, yet are totally in denial about the politics behind them. The villains represent anti-conservative positions (Joker was terrorism) and Catwoman (Occupy Wall Street) makes this plain as day with her ridiculous Marxist "you left nothing for the rest of us" line -- straight out of the mouth of your garden variety OWS college boy, and followed by scenes of orange-jumpsuited prisoners brandishing guns like picket signs. Rock on, Nolan brothers! F these debauched hippie wastes!
-
And the cgi on the football part looks shit.
-
Bane freeing all of the maximum-security inmates of Arkham Asylum, or, just the prison. Instead of there being a rift between Batman and Robin, there's one between him and Alfred because he actually wants to take on the inmates by himself and Alfred opposes it; This might involve the scene in the trailer where Alfred talks about his failure protecting Bruce's family. Batman becomes weaken from trying to take on the inmates and Bane; This might be the scene from the trailers and set photos showing all those people outside on what looks like a court's steps. Bane and Batman fight each other, but, Bruce just gets beat up a little. After this is when Bane attacks Bruce at Wayne Manor/Batcave and REALLY destroys him. Instead of throwing Bruce from a rooftop, he probably just exposes him as Batman and either takes control of the prison and puts him there, or, Bruce gets sent to jail just for the public believing he killed Harvey Dent; This might be the scene with Bruce in the prison asking the guy what they're chanting and Bane talking to him. This is where it gets tricky: "Jean-Paul" might be Gordon-Hewitt's character OR Nolan is actually making Selina Kyle the new "protector of Gotham", only, instead of turning into "Azrael", she turns into Catwoman. The Scarecrow could factor into all this by spraying either one of them with gas causing them to become bad. Or, maybe Bruce himself is the "Jean-Paul" character and that gun thing we've seen is part of his new aggressive "arsenal" he's using against people, and because of his new lack in detective work, he misjudges Kyle/Catwoman like Jean-Paul does in THE CRUSADE. OR, Marion Cotillard is Ghul's daughter, but, isn't bad like him so Bruce tries to make her into a Batman figure like him, but the Scarecrow uses his gas on her and she gets flashbacks involving her father and she wants to get even with Batman for killing him. Or, she's Lady Shiva and retrains Bruce like Ghul did, after Bane really hurts him in the Batcave. I think it'll end the same way it does in KNIGHTS END, only, replace Jean-Paul with Bane; Bruce doesn't beat down Bane, but, outsmarts him and Bane plummets to his death down the same well that leads to the Batcave, or, just dies with all that stuff ripped off him. It all gets wrapped up similar to TROIKA; Bruce "rises" as Batman again, now probably looking the most like Batman from the comics than any other film version, and he's made changes to his life as "Bruce". Or, I could be completely wrong...
-
It's clearly Bale...WITH A CANE...(Watch in HD) Holy shit, they're doing Knightfall.
-
some people will say anything to start a fight or back up their own delusions
-
Marion Cotillard is just "Shondra Kinsolving"; helps Bruce rehabilitate and a romantic love interest.
-
THere are much bigger logical issues with that film. But you bring up a good point.
-
I appreciate Nolan's films mainly because of the cinematography. Shooting on film, combined with real locations makes his films look lovely. <P> Unfortunately, I find the same movies to be emotionally cold and not nearly as "smart" as he paints them to be. But the masses believe them to be smart (I suppose compared to most modern films, they are) and elevate Nolan above themselves. <P> Anyway, looks to be in-line with his other Batman movies (obviously). It'll be pretty to watch, but I'll be left numb (most likely my ass will be too). <P> Football field crumbling looks terrible, but hopefully it'll be fixed by the film's release. I wouldn't have put it in this trailer. It's so awful looking, it honestly is anti-climatic which goes against what it's supposed to be. <P> I guess Bane's a bad guy, because he pops his collar. I hate people that do that, unless it's part of a zip-up sweater. Popped collar=evil.

-
You're probably wrong. The movie's theme is similar to Spider-man 3 in that Bane represents what Bruce Wayne could have become. The same way Raimi made Venom the potential bad of Pater Parker. Even down to the needing of the costume to survive. In Nolan's universe Bruce can survive without Batman or his "mask" where Bane needs his mask to live. Batman does get unmasked in this film, its questionable what role it plays, is it significant or not. Catwoman is there simply to serve Nolan's conservative viewpoint of the world. There probably are a lot of elements from Knightfall, but there's not going to be a sense of Batman handing the torch at the end. They've been pretty adamant about the idea that this universe ends now.

I couldn't care less about this movie. And I'm not happy about that. Maybe this is one of those Thor-Incredible Hulk-you name it- trailers that doesn't do the actual film justice. This already looks much better than TDK. I believe this may be a Threequal that matters. I think Bane looks and SOUNDS incredible. HeathJoker won't be beaten in terms of an incredible portrayal of THAT character but Nolan wasn't setting out to beat that. He has chosen a physical villain and for the last time I cannot express how fucking idiotic people sound when they compare size between Bale and Hardy. It's a mute point. In the comics, the artists have made Bane to be gigantic and in the comic world (important point to take on board) this works fine. On film, it would look ridiculous. You all saw what Schumacher did to Bane in Batman & Robin. Nolan is a realist. End of story.

That's a rare trailer that has a visceral impact, yet also conveys the sense that it will be ABOUT something. We'll see, but it absolutely looks like it could be the best of three.

honestly the teaser for the Prometheus teaser looked better then this Nolan's issue is he's terrible at shooting action scenes which is why the football stadium shots looks corny...he prefers real vs CGI which hampers him as well...3rd he decided to make the Batman universe more realistic and not like the comic/animated version which also hurts

to construct a quality film. However, it's really going to come down to the relationship between Batman and Bane and how their arc develops. I've always been of the opinion that most thrillers/ action films are only as good as their villains (see Die Hard, Terminator films, Aliens...etc for examples of good). So if Hardy pulls it off..... this could really be an amazing piece of cinema. If he doesn't, well at worst i think it's Batman Begins (which i like a lot)

by NeonFrisbee
You do realize that they're angling leftist / OWS-y activist Catwoman as the real hero of all this, right? Batman is the more conservative of the two, but he's more libertarian conservative then neo-con fascist.
-
What the fuck are you smoking? It's the fact that he uses "real" which makes his films look all the better than most! And he's terrible at action? By no means is he terrrible. He may not be "the best" but the middle batpod tunnel chase sequence in Dark Knight is possibly the centerpiece of the series thus far. Even the batmobile chase sequence in Begins is great. He has directed good action, not all of it's amazing but he's capable. Not terrible at the least like some other directors.
-
But how can it not? Two great movies, and it looks like we are getting a 3rd :) And maybe it won't be as great as Joker was- but that doesn't mean it can't be frick'n great!

Guess those reports were misinformed? I think this is how it will appear in the final film if it's in this trailer. Looks like it works more like a Harrier Jet to me which, seeing it now, is cooler to me than a helicopter. What's its name? The Bat-Harrier? The Bat Hover craft? The Hover Bat?
-
Just how "dirty" should an IMAX film be, exactly? And "blinded by fanboyism"? C'mon...if you're going to write this trailer off only because other people are in love with it, you're blindly hating it just as some are blindly embracing it. Keep your cynicism in check, guys. I mean if you genuinely hated or found this trailer boring that's cool. There's nothing wrong with having a fucking opinion. And I think branding people as "haters" just because they dislike something is unfair. But some folks just adopt that hipster "I'm above everything and nothing can impress me" attitude. It's phony. And you're fronting to anonymous TBers on an ailing website for nerds.

I'm pretty sure that's him calling Gordon a "war hero". Also, it appears to be Alfred who responds to Wayne's question with "Rise". (Peachy Carnahan lives!!!) The trailer looks great and Bane sound fine; better than in the prologue footage. I'm just amused that people are assuming OWS overtones with Catwoman's lines when it seems pretty clear (at this point) that Bane's arrival has unleashed the criminal element upon all of Gotham's citizenry. Even so, it would be fairly prescient of Nolan to incorporate such a timely, divisive, and misunderstood topic for thematic subtext. Looking forward to this one.

-
Interesting idea...especially when you consider what appears to be the images of Bane's minions and so forth raiding the homes of the wealthy (i.e. the guy being pulled out from under some piece of furniture). Makes you wonder if she'll be playing both sides.
-
I loved the use of audio in the trailer from the national anthem flowing into the chanting. Awesome (and I like how Bane sounds). At first, I wasn't happy about hearing the 8 year gap. But if Nolan truly uses this as an ending then it'd be great. King Arthur's legend has a 15 year reign of peace, but no one remembers that. Instead they remember the sword in the rock beginning and the fall with Mordred. If this follows the same template, I'll be pleased... where Batman's and Gordon's decisions in the Dark Knight lead to a period of peace. Great trailer!

by hank henshaw
This goddamn Batman (pun intended) just doesn't care about keeping a bat theme to his stuff. 3 movies in, and no Batmobile, no Batwing, no bat-a-rangs (there are some bat-blades or bat-shuriken, but that's it) no traditional Batcave, the utility belt has never been used. This is what happens when you overcompensate for Burton/Schumacher movies.

2soon, TDK is not politically ideological but I think it's politically minded
by P
in the broadest sense of "concerning itself with the needs of citizens." The complex dynamics between authority, criminality and vigilantism (often overlapping) is what sets Nolans films apart from most superhero fare. TDK could just have easily been called "Gotham" and the new film looks just as, if not more, ambitious in scope. Then again, maybe I'm reading too much into it and it's just about a guy in a cape punching bad guys. BLOW! BAP!
-
No, no, no Mr Wayne that's not what I said.
-
This looks very strong indeed. I was not sure of Anne Hathaway until I saw this trailer. But she's excellent. from what I can see here. She nails the voice. The dialogue really fits Selina Kyle. In the comic books she was a prostitute so she's someone who has lived on the rough edge of society. I love the fact we can't tell whose side she's on, again true to the character. Selina is the mirror image of Bruce Wayne. And Bane looks and sounds menacing. I'm amazed people could not understand what he said. It was crystal clear, "When Gotham is ashes, you have my permission to die". If he looked like he did in the comics people would be laughing through most of the movie. With Bane its not about his size or his muscles but his intent. Now we know what happened to Leon S. Kennedy's jacket. Looks like Bane got it at a Los Iluminados yard sale, perhaps courtesy of the Merchant.
-
YES! at 55 seconds, the dude smiling and laughing and running up the steps. Ha...funny
-
Really? REALLY?! Daylight? Batman? How...does....that...work?
-
Yeah, its still got a lot of elements of Knightfall (with some The Dark Knight Returns thrown in for good measure), but the whole Gotham's unwashed masses rebelling against "the rich" per Selina's speech to Bruce and Bane leading the prisoners, his mercs and the whole Occupy Gotham crowd, reminds me helluva lot of the four part mini The Cult from the late eighties. Bruce gets "broken" not by Bane but by Deacon Blackfire and his cult of "have nots" --homeless and disenfranchised Gothamites -- who takeover the city, send all the "haves" fleeing from the city, and basically brainwash Batman. Jason Todd rescues Bruce and the two regroup and launch an all out assault on the city and Blackfire's cult in a giant armored 4X4 version of the Batmobile armed with rubber bullet firing machine guns and tear gas. And Batman kicks the living shit out of Blackfire who is then torn apart by his followers. Great story brought to you by Jim Starlin and Bernie Wrightson. TDKR looks to be all this plus Ras and The League of Shadows/Assassins and Talia. Great stuff.

Nothing could ever compare to the anticipation and quality exceeding standards set by waiting, and then finally seeing The Dark Knight for the first time. Nolan has a lot to live up to. All we can do is imagine what could have been with Ledger still alive. I really hope this is great though!

I just hate so much about this already, from Bale's ongoing shitty Batman voice and now Bane's retarded outfit and voice to the BAT-former plane thing that looks like Michael Bay raped a toddler with Down Syndrome to create. The only thing worth watching from the Burton/hairdresser era was Michael Gough as alfred. This this series it's Oldman's Jim Gordon. I harbor some hope for Anne Hathaway. My hope is now that OBL is dead we can get out of the 9/11 TERROR TERROR TERROR mindset and get Batman done right with the NEXT trilogy.
-
...Gordon in the teaser, Bane in this one. Perhaps this movie is about our attempts to communicate, which are thwarted by technology and man's inhumanity to man. Oh, also, cat-boobs.

I'm confused why you're confused.

I guess, I'll need to see more, or.....it's gonna suck.

I really don't like Bane's looks and sounds, nor do I like what I've seen of Catwoman. I kept waiting for that grabber moment and it never came. While I am a big fan of Nolan, I am NOT stupid enough to sheepishly believe that he is incapable of failure. I really hope that isn't the case here, but I don't know. I do have a bad feeling about this. Please let me be wrong, please!

The shot of the person walking up to food tray with the cane appears to be Bruce, based on the reflection in the cover. Also, if you look at the silhouette of the person on the balcony at 0:38, you can see that person is holding a cane just before he turns to walk away. Could be Bruce in both shots.
-
Still, I actually like it. Also, I think Bale is leaning on a cane when he's talking to Cotilliard.

Just trying to get some perspective, here. Looks very well executed from a technical standpoint. I'm trying to imagine being sufficiently compelled by Bane in that ridiculous coat for two hours. I saw the prologue, too, and take away the feverish Batman expectations and it looked like a 90s Nicholas Cage movie or a Roger Moore-era Bond opening scene.
-
Since when is Wayne being a billionaire a bad thing? You guys are reading way too much into that aspect of the trailer. The script was written way before those entitled rich kids decided they would rather protest than ask for a job at McDonalds or the GAP. Wayne's father did all he could for Gotham, building mass transit, helping the homeless, etc. The least his son can do is beat the asses of the ingrates that dare break his city's laws. Nolan is the man.

I think the class warfare slant (or whatever it is) really brings up a good conflict for Bruce Wayne, and Bane is the perfect character to play off the hero's human weakness. I must admit I miss Bane's Spanish origins (Tom Hardy seems to be playing him as I dunno, German?) but I still expect this to be a great turnaround for a villain that was reduced to a joke in Batman and Robin. ... Sorry for anyone who forgot about that camp-fest.

I'm not sure why so many people are saying it's hard to understand Bane? I heard it just fine the first time. "When Gotham is ashes, I give you permission to die." Crystal clear to me. Anyway, fuck the haters, Nolan rules and this movie is going to own next year's ass. When I'm in Chi-town at midnight on July 20th, guaranfuckingtee all the haters will still be there too. And if you say you're not and actually don't go, then props, but if you hate and go anyway, fuck you!!! The Dark Knight Rises is the reason for the season bitches!!!
-
Does Hines Ward's touchdown count with the field collapsing as he scores???
-
...let me just state that English is my *first* language, and that I'm... 99% sure I don't have a learning disability. At the very least I know I'm not too much of a moron to be familiar with the words "ashes" and "permission". So, you guys who are confused by those of us who can't make out the dialogue can cross those two things off your checklist. Some people just have better speakers and/or ears, or are more audially-oriented learners as opposed to visually-oriented. All I know is I can talk good or whatever, and all I heard was "Something something Gotham is something, then you something my something to something." But if Nolan refuses to re-dub the dialogue, then I can live with that. I'll just wait until the DVD comes out and watch the movie with closed captions.
-
....is seen numerous times.... I believe it's him in the reflection, plus on the roof in shadow (both with cane) plus waling into the party, after speaking with Anne Hathaway you see just the tip of the top of the cane come into frame, and at one point he turns around (I believe with Marion Cotillard) and you can see him leaning his weight on the cane. He is one with that cane, man...

It's the League of Shadows behind all of this. Ra's will only show up in flash backs. Talia will be behind all of it. Catwoman obviously is working for Bane believing that he is punishing "The 1%" but he is obviously just wanting to destroy the city and maybe even more. Once he and the people behind him are exposed for just being psycho's and not revolutionaries she switches sides. I feel like this is obvious but maybe not. I mean just from what we know and have seen... The plan they made at the end of TDK worked. Harvey Dent became the symbol, not Batman. The mob is pretty much done for. Crazies like Scarecrow and Joker are locked up. So Batman just doesn't show up anymore as the police and politicians become the good guys. Then Bane, Catwoman show up and Wayne decides he needs to step up but Bane beats the shit out of him and unmasks him. From there they fake a revolution that leads to almost the destruction of the police force. Batman and whoever joins his side come together to stop Bane and Talia from completing their actual goal which could be anything... Destroying the whole city? Whatever. I feel like that is what is going on here.

@uberfreak Joker was not an anarchist,he was rather a nihilist.
by KilliK
Anarchy is a political ideology,it is something to believe in. Joker didnt believe in anything,he was not motivated by anything, there was no purpose in his actions and thinking (so he says). The morality and the civilized human nature were non-existent meanings to him.All you need is a little push to become the Joker,as he would say. He only existed because Batman existed,he was the opposite of him,his οther half who completed him,the yin to his yang. Although in reality there were not that different, they were both the two sides of the same coin.

...I don't think its going to be a terribly complicated storyline. Kyle is in league with Bane, but Bane isn't what he seems so she switches sides. Talia is behind everything and Bane is either a follower of HER or has spilt from her and started his own thing. Bruce probably just gets beat up, not killed or has his back broken, and he and Catwoman take on everyone at the end with Catwoman going her own way afterwards.

Sorely Disappointed; This confirms JGL is NOT The Joker.
by Joey_Redballs
Joseph Gordon Leavitt is NOT the Joker. I was hoping it was all a clever ruse, but it's not. This looks very underwhelming. SO much daylight! My vision for a Dark Knight movie will never come to fruition. I was hoping Nolan had some similar ideas for an ending, but now that JGL isn't becoming Heath's doppelganger, I know it's not going to even be in the same ballpark for what I had hoped for.

There were numerous blackouts at the stadium Hines Ward was playing at tonight. No field implosion, though
by Al
I guess Bane was doing a trail run of his personal vendetta against Hines Ward by turning the lights off. Wouldn't it be cool if in the climax of the movie, Bane has Batman raised above his head, raises his knee, then tosses Bats aside, reaches out stage left and yanks in Hines Ward and then breaks his back instead? "THIS IS WHAT THE FIRE RISES WAS ALL ABOUT! TAKE THAT, WARD!" Then he shrugs, helps Bats to his feet, and then gives a jaunty wave and walks off. Movie ends with a confused closeup on Batman's face. He quits crime-fighting in disgust.

Since this is one of the best trailers ever. Nolan is gonna end the Batman story, people! For that alone, this movie is going to be a thousand times better than any other superheromovie! There is literally nothing... NOTHING to complain about here! BB and TDK are the best comicbookmovies made, up until this point and with this movie Nolan will create a trilogy as great as the godfather, original star wars and lord of the rings! As always, I recommend all those haters to go home and watch their Marvelmovies or Underworlds and drown in mediocrity. I am going to enjoy this, because I like sophisticated stuff.

joey_redballs, I'd always hoped John Blake (JGL) was just an epic ruse
by American Mythos
I was still hoping it when I saw that HD footage of Levitt, as Blake, walking down the street carrying a gas can. I mean, here he was, on this closed street, and some bystander just happened to get HD close up footage of him -- it always seemed like a ruse to me. And then this trailer footage of Levitt, making sure to show his face as Blake, like he's a central figure in the story. Yet, in the fight scene between Batman and Gotham police vs. Bane's people (which I'm assuming is the climactic showdown), we don't see Levitt anywhere in sight. JGL most likely isn't the Joker, but it all seemed suspicious to me, and would have been the greatest trick ever played on an audience come opening day. Not expecting the Joker, expecting John Blake, and wham -- there's the Joker. Too bad.

if Bane occupies gotham wouldn't the whole country attack
by johnnyg korrupt
How the hell does he occupy 1 city, the whole countries Armed forces would wipe him out.
-
from what i have watched and read... 1. The league of shadows are back to destroy gotham one last time. 2. talia al ghul is the mastermind since ra's is already dead (and Neeson will only appear in flashbacks). 3. batman was the original heir to ra's but after he rejected it, the honor went to bane. 4. batman does get seriously injured in this movie by bane as bruce walks around with a cane (as seen in almost all the scenes in the trailer / alfred states he has not been able to protect bruce well enough) 5. the comics suggest that bane breaks the back of the bat in the batcave during an ambush (that is why you see men repelling off walls into the new batcave) 6. bane wrecks havoc on a gotham that has no batman (not before selina warns bruce of what's impending) 7. batman does come back to rid gotham of Bane and his cronies before the end of the movie. 8. it may not be bruce who dons the suit anymore since he can no longer fight. 9. thus whoever takes the mantle of batman at the end of the show is no longer important as, if you can recall, batman is just merely a symbol. 10. The title - The Dark Knight Rises - probably means batman does return to gotham eventually but it may no longer be bruce wayne behind the mask but someone else (just like how Jean-Paul Valley became Batman/Azreal in the comics when bruce's spine was broken by bane). 11. we cannot discount Joseph Gordon Levitt becoming the new caped crusader of gotham too...
-
Adding subtext and layers don't hurt these movies and it also makes these movies a reflection of our modern history. I just wish they satirized the Tea Party with the Mad Hatter along with Catwoman's Occupy Wall Street. That would bring everything together.

-
That was always my biggest problem with Batman Beyond. Batman is no longer special if he's just passed down from generation to generation. He should live and die with Bruce Wayne. I feel like this film will end the series, but how it ends will be more along the lines of Bruce Wayne accepting that his role as Batman is his destiny, that it's the only life he can lead.
-
And this will be from the last lesson he got from Ra's.

why do i feel like they have merged Bane with Killer Croc and the mutant leader?
by zom-bot.com
not complaining, it's a real thought. banes' mask - especially that top strap- gives a very reptilian, crocodile back-pattern look. and for some weird reason, we see a bad skin condition in many of the shots. also, i wonder if under that mask he has filed down his teeth or something?
-
when the rest of the country pretty much left Gotham for dead? That's kind of the vibe I'm getting from this movie.
-
it's going to come off pretty cheap if it leads up to a spin-off or torch passing. Of course that's WB's intention (cha-ching) but hopefully it is not Nolan's. Someone (sorry, long thread) correctly stated that comic story arcs do indeed end. I believe what Nordling was referring to was that we have yet to see that in a superhero FILM series. XMen and Spiderman both sputtered out in the third pass only to have the slate cleaned completely. Nolan is trying to deliver on his promise, something that Singer and Raimi (for whatever reasons) were unable or unwilling to do. I really hope another director doesn't try to ape Nolan's tone and sensibility. That would simply not work.

so many other wonderful 'realistic' villians they could have peppered in..
by zom-bot.com
even if cops only mention them in passing, even if there is just a montage of batman catching criminals over time..it's too bad Nolan wasn't able to artfully squeeze in more of the rogue's gallery into the rise and fall of batman. ventriloquist (schizo mob heir)...penguin (arms dealer etc)..firebug (a high tech arsonist), harley (a crazed joker fan/admirer/copycat), riddler (an obsessive compulsive terrorist)...countless more we'll never see now, most likely. the best they could do was Zsasz's cameo in begins? i'm not suggesting we cram in tons of villains as major players, but at least give mention that in batman's career, and after the joker, more unique criminals started appearing.... we're to believe that in an 8 to ten year period, batman only fought Ra's, Scarecrow, Joker, two face (if you can even count him) and then Bane? is that the stuff of legend?
-
Will feel as awkward as TDK's 3D sonar vision. Or at least it looks like it so far. I just pray that it doesn't transform into a giant robo-bat-suit to take on a Godzilla-sized Bane.
-
Saw the Trailer in Sherlock Holmes this weekend. I'm hyped to see this, totally bummed that Nolan's time on Batman is ending. The Dark Knight was great. I hope Bale tones the Batman voice down a bit. But I can't wait to see this, and I don't understand where the Hate is coming from especially with just a trailer.
-
And it could have been Batman meets Scream.
-
and John Blake is the joker with his fake scars peeled off. but i guess if the joker's scars were just part of his persona, he would have removed them when he pretended to be a cop in TDK. oh well. nolan does seem to kind of combine characters, Neeson's Ra's was in fact a combo of Ra's and a french character named Ducard that trained Bruce in detection from the comics. I have a feeling John Blake is a combo of like, Tim Drake and Jean Baptiste or someone else that replaces batman.
-
It would be a statement about reboots, too.
-
You have hit the nail on the head....passing on the mantle of the bat will indeed be the last lesson learned from Ra's!
-
Gemma Arterton would've still been my personal top choice, though. Seems like the type who could be regal, edgy and provocative all at once. Hathaway has displayed that quality in spades, but it seems more forced with her in that footage of her. I mean, she makes an okay Selina Kyle, but I'm doubtful for Catwoman.
-
The character became a cop because his family was murdered by the Joker during TDK... Now you have a Gotham orphan who has a strong sense of bringing justice to his 'home town'. just sayin'...

Bane is of the same level of genius as Joker but is his ideological opposite. Joker just wants...
by Dogmatic
to watch the world burn for the sake of seeing it burn. Ra's wants to burn the world for its own salvation. Bane wants to destroy to show that he can first of all and then to take control of it as its new master. He is pure Darwinian driven survival of the fittest. He sees Batman as the challenge to him taht must be overcome to rise to that position of ubermensch....and therefore he sets about the business of destroying him. Bane is not insane....he is much worse...he is completely a control freak of the ultimate kind.

I think there's peace at the top only and Gordon's efforts to help those at the bottom make him a "nuisance" to Gotham's elites. Bruce Wayne does not look like a happy camper in the scenes supposedly depicting the "peaceful" Gotham.

Quite the ego you got there - I'm sure it was a tough choice for Nolan to not follow your exact vision. You are the experienced visionary and all. Get over yourself. Watch it. It will be great. That's all.

Glad you read my earlier post which actually shows I am a big Nolan fan but not afraid to poke fun at someone I admire aswell as praise as there needs need a balance.I won't bother going into a big slanging match which everyone seems to do on here but I accept your compliment and merry xmas. As for visionary can I suggest the biography of Stanley Kubrick by John Baxter.

I dont get the haters....this trailer is full of SO many great beats...like
by Dogmatic
the whole opening cut sequence of Bane climbing up into the underworks of Gotham's stadium and just oh so casually walking down the corridors flanked by his men as he is preparing to unleash hell upon Gotham City. Alfred's heartbreaking voice crack as he says "I swore to your parents to protect you...and I haven't." The DEAFENING SILENCE of no music or sound as the football field just collapses and all those heralded superstar athletes are snuffed out like they are nothing as Bane brings the realistic frailty of life crashing down on a stadium full of spectators......and I love Anne Hathaway's line delivery when she keeps her sultry smile but viciously almost hisses those words "...and leave none for the rest of us." in Bruce's ear and Bale's awesome reaction as he goes from being a man thinking he is dancing with a hot girl to being both hurt, angry and (mostly showing in his face) afraid as he backs away from her. VERY menacing. As for the quick cuts after the football field destruction it is hard to see.....but Batman looking worn out as he faces Bane as the streets around him are enveloped in war. Ripped Tom Hardy looking up some hole. That Waynetech tank blasting away at some federal building. Rich people getting ripped from their homes. That SWEET panning shot from the tank back to the Bat-VTOL pursuing it.....and that (especially if you saw it in IMAX) BLINDING ascent into WHITE when the title comes up accompanied by the deafening roar of the main Batman theme. AWESOME!!!!! ALL OF IT!

JGL will be Nolan's version of Robin. Bruce Wayne seemingly has a younger sidekick who is trained in combat (cop) and who will seemingly help Batman come back and save Gotham, and some of you don't think thats Nolan's version of Robin? He may never put on his own tights or be called Robin (then again...), but make no mistake, thats him.
-
I like how so many pellets write that Hathaway sucks as catwoman and/or such and such would have been awesome. When one, no one can critique a role that hasn't been seen yet. And two, you mastaburtory fantasies of whatever hot chick is not a valid screen test for a movie. I haven't been excited about her get up... but Milan has earned my trust.

The only valid criticism of Nolan's Bat movies is...
by Orbots Commander
....that his 'Gotham' seems to exist in a vacuum, that, for all its 'realistic take on Batman' it isn't part of a U.S. State or part of the U.S. for that matter. Because if all that crap was happening to a major city, as it was in TDK or TDKR, and the city was being torn apart, you better believe that the National Guard or the Army would have been called in, ASAP. But I guess, it's just one of those suspension of disbelief 'movie universe' criticisms.

@asimovlives - I get tired of Europeans who come to American websites to bitch about Americans complaining about American films.
by Atkinson
Your Guinness will never taste the same here; your Sangria will never be made the same here; your Wienerschnitzel won't have the same flavor, and the suits will never have the same tailoring. Your actors and actresses will make more money here than when "you watched them first" five or ten years ago on Canal+ or on the BBC. Not all of us are fat, and only half of us voted for Bush. If people wanna complain about Bane's "aqua-lung" accent, then that's their prerogative - and yes, some of us do speak your language because we're more diverse than any country in Europe. It's called being heterogeneous. It's what makes us great. We're flawed, we're original, and we're Americans. And you'll pay your freakin' Euros to watch our movies. Good day, Sir. (puts sunglasses on)
-
Her line delivery is wonderfully sinister, particularly the way she hisses in Bruce's ear.
-
It proves how silly the comic suit looks in live action.
-
I understood him fine in the trailer... but he is undeniably difficult to understand in the prologue, which takes place in a very noisy environment. It has nothing to do with whether you're American or not... it's not his accent that's hard to grasp, it's the fact that he's very muffled. I'm not saying this is a bad thing... Nolan may be trying something impressionistic with Bane's voice, so you get a FEEL for what he's saying but don't know exactly what he's saying. Still, I kinda hope he clears it up a little. I do like the accent/voice though. He sounds fucking creepy as hell.
-
Is there NOTHING that doesn't anger you? I had a hard time understanding Bane as well. That doesn't mean I am an idiot, or can't understand my own language. It just means his voice is a bit muffled. Seriously dude, calm down. EVERYTHING makes you mad.

And he LOVED TDK and Batman Begins. He also said maybe that's the point, to not show too much, just enough to get you curious, to make you really thirst for more. Sometimes....well, most of the time, less is more in a trailer. Besides...I don't give a rat's ass about the trailer, as long as the movie kicks ass, which i am sure it will, no reason to think otherwise. Watched Begins again the other night. What a great movie.

"Have we started a fire?" That's what the young guy asks Bane in the prologue, and that was Bane's answer in the subject line. So, Bane is like a leader of a cult who believe that what they're doing is elevating something (civilization, society, God, etc.) to a greater level. "Rises" is in the title: THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Then there's the tag line "The Legend ends". I think Bruce doesn't die OR take on an apprentice or replacement. Its just one of those typical movie storylines where the hero gets beaten down for most of the film, then rehabilitates and comes back at the end to defeat the villain. I believe its going to be just as straightforward as that.

Yo morons stop with the occupy or anti capitalism stuff...
by Andrew Coleman
It's a lot more clear than that. He is using basic history for the league's plan. So lets do this again... Batman leaves because Dent's image becomes the new symbol for Gotham. Problem is Bruce doesn't pick up his fathers mantle in helping the city. The rich throw parties and allow the city to kind of become a shit hole. But Gordon and the police are keeping control. The poor and other groups are angry about the disparity. Bane tricks people to become angry enough to fight. Faking revolution when his obvious plan is to destroy the city as a symbol for the league of shadows. Hmmm tricking the poor and beaten down into doing horrible things... We've seen this in real life like a hundred times the most obvious example is Nazi-Germany. I understand in the political climate in the US it's easy to have a knee jerk reaction but come on just stop it. If you're stupid enough to avoid this movie because of politics you're fucking pathetic.
-
That would be the first decent Stargate since the movie with Kurt Russell.
-
Hathaway's lines made my ears bleed a bit. "There's a storm coming Mr. Wayne...blah blah blah..so little for the rest of us...blah blah." Really? That's how people have conversations? It's preachy and non-organic. The dialogue between Selina and Bruce in Batman Returns party scene was written much better. Bane sounds good. I give this trailer a 6/10.

I don't hate her. She's fine in certain roles. I just find it very difficult to think of her as sexy or dangerous (i.e. CatWoman). FWIW, I'm not hoping for failure; I'm really hoping that she blows my mind with an Oscar worthy performance.

...and he would be the perfect director for one. What does Nolan & Bond tradition have in common? A respect for real stunt work, location shooting and large scope movie making. Also, Brits don't pronounce their own language correctly
by Jaster Mareel
For example, they say "sumfing" instead of "something". Someone needs to explain to them that there is no "f" in "something". They also seem to have troubles pronouncing r's. They say "al-ight" instead of "alright". Although strangely, they say "right" a lot. So I guess it's just r's in the middle of words they have problems with. They also just can't be bothered to actually finish some words like "happened". It comes out like "happ-*ngh*" They just say goofy shit sometimes. Like if someone is giving them shit, they'll ask "Are you taking a piss", or even weirder "Are you taking the piss?" It's like "....What the fuck are you talking about?" And why do they call everyone "Guv-nuh"? Seriously, the fuck is with that? I remember my first, and only, time in London. Some fuckstick runs up and says "'Ave yuh go- uh quid?" And I was like "....Lot of people carry squids around here?" And he was all "Nu nu, a QUID, a focking pound mate!" And I said "Dude, I'm straight man, I'm not looking to 'mate' with another guy. I don't care how good you 'pound'."

Hathaway, a semi-fine bitch with weird personality, and even weirder disproportionate facial features that are constantly in flux with each other (too big of a mouth, too much teeth, eyes are bulging out like some bulldog), from garbage like the Princess Dairies no less... how could she ever compete with Michelle Pfeffier?

The bat signal turns on with Gotham in ruins, in need of a hero. Batman/ Bruce is dead or completely incapacitated and there is no one to answer the call. by WINONA_RYDERS_PUSSY_JUICE
then you find some talkbackers you disagree with and lamaste them. Because when you record an actor talking through a muzzle then post process the recorded voice to sound like a gay darth vader, obviously everyone should understand what he's saying. But if you can find something wrong with the trailer, make sure you point out that one of the comic book super villains has dialogue that a common person wouldn't normally speak. Ok class dismissed.

that what is batman without bruce's money? wealth? inheritance? privilege? tech? you can say that perhaps bruce has enough moral conviction and sense of justice that he would have done something like this even if he was poor...but really- could he? Bane is an example of that. bane is what someone with nothing to start with would accomplish if he became a vigilante. only bane harbors ill for mankind whereas bruce thinks there is hope for it or it can be protected. but i think bruce is gonna learn that he is just another shade in the league of shadows. he's just like them, but from another viewpoint....
-
I've just gone back and watched the trailers for The Dark Knight, out of interest. They made me feel like watching the The Dark Knight. They were well thought out and constructed trailers. This one didn't make me even remotely excited to watch TDKR Bane looks like he's wearing a jockstrap and sounds like he's enjoying the experience, and to everyone who's wanking over Hathaway fuck off. She's perfectly acceptable in romcoms set in the south of France but here she looks like she's borrowed her mums Halloween outfit in the costume stills and she reading her lines of a cue card behind Bales ear in this trailer. I'm still going to see this, I'm certainly not passing judgement on anything BUT the trailer and what's in it, but that 2 minutes has far from delivered what a trailer is supposed to and that is a knee trembling urge to see the film it's advertising. All the 'Fuck yeah!' comments on here really do sound like the're trying to convince themselves.

I'm assuming the C is for city, but no clue as to the R.. it would have to be short when looking at the helmet.. maybe RED? 2) the henchmen destroying wayne manor have masks on like banes.. similar at least 3) its a prison... it has bars... bane is there when Bats is first admitted and comes and breaks him out later in life 4) i'm almost convinced that a leaked description of the prelogue which happened to be false is indeed the first scene after the prologue... 5) what happens in the prologue either leads to this moment or is only relevant to the main plot... regardless... I think the prologue runs simutaneously to the end of TDK... then after bats escapes and before he reaches the bat cave.. bane attacks him and breaks his back putting him out of commission for 8 years.. some of those 8 years are spent in that prison.. probably because Bane exposes Wayne as Bats and he takes the fall for Dent CANT WAIT

wtf? Batman vs. Superman Warner Bros. abandoned J. J. Abrams' script for Superman: Flyby, which had been greenlighted with McG to direct.[54][55] When McG dropped out in favor of Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle,[56] Warner Bros. approached Wolfgang Petersen to direct Superman: Flyby,[57] however, in August 2001,[58] Andrew Kevin Walker pitched Warner Bros. an idea titled Batman vs Superman, attaching Petersen as director. Superman: Flyby was put on hold,[57] and Akiva Goldsman was hired to rewrite Walker's Batman vs. Superman.[43] Goldsman's draft, dated June 21, 2002, had Bruce Wayne going through a mental breakdown after his five year retirement of crime fighting. Dick Grayson, Alfred Pennyworth and Commissioner Gordon are all dead, but Bruce's depressed emotions become resolved with fiancée Elizabeth Miller. Meanwhile, Clark Kent is struggling by a recent divorce with Lois Lane. Clark and Bruce are close friends, and Clark is Bruce's best man. After the Joker kills Elizabeth at the honeymoon, Bruce plots a revenge scheme, while Clark tries to hold him back. In return, Bruce blames Clark for her death, and the two go against one another. Part of the script took place in Smallville, where Clark goes into exile with Lana Lang. However, Lex Luthor is held to be responsible for the entire plot of Batman and Superman destroying each other. The two decide to team up and stop Luthor.[59] Christian Bale and Josh Hartnett had turned down the roles of Batman and Superman. Bale, who was also approached to play Batman in the unmade Batman: Year One, would eventually portray the same role in Batman Begins.[56][60] Principal photography was to start in early-2003, with plans for a five–six month shoot. The release date was set for mid-2004.[61] Within a month of Warner Bros. greenlighting Batman vs. Superman, Petersen left in favor of Troy (2004).[43] Warner Bros. decided to move forward on Superman: Flyby and on a Batman reboot.[43] A fictional billboard for the film could be seen in the background of the 2007 Warner Bros. film I Am Legend. [62]Petersen and Bryan Singer are interested in directing the project sometime in the future, with Bale as Batman.[63][64] People on YouTube have made fanmade trailers of the World's Finest including footage from the latest Batman and Superman films. Future With the conclusion of Christopher Nolan's current trilogy, Warner Bros. plans to produce a Justice League film, targeted for a 2015 release. While the Batman franchise will again be revamped to fit into the Justice League universe, Nolan and his wife, Emma Thomas, will stay on as producers for the project.[91]

I think THE DARK KNIGHT is superior, but there's something about BATMAN BEGINS that makes it addictive to me. Besides BLADE RUNNER, ALIEN, ALIENS and VALHALLA RISING, it's the movie i have seen the most in my life. And i can't never get tired. personally, i found the teaser and the trailer and that short film showing the begining of TDKR to be amazing. if that's how the movie starts and is a show of things to come, it's going to be beautiful. It worked for me like a charm. So, cound that as one thing that didn't anger me ;-). By the way, i saw DRIVE. It kicked my ass. What a great movie! Loved it, loved it, loved it! Wow! Now I (and others) are faced with watching a movie whose two main characters BOTH grumble??? Why the hell would I submit myself to that. Why should anyone??? Yes, Nolan has a vision. He may have his reasons. Their dialogue might not help move the plot forward, so maybe what they are saying isn't important. So why not make it a fucking silent film or have the characters not talk at all. What the fuck is the point of giving them dialogue if no one can understand them?

first of all, it's portuguese. second, i'm actually not the most aural perceptive guy around, i get easily distracted. third, i rewatched the trailer again, just for the fun of it and to see if i was too harsh on the people who didn'tm udnerstood the dialogue in that trailer... and again i realised that the dialogue is quite easy to understand, even Bane's "muffled" voice. There's nothing in that trailer that made me thinkinfg "what's he saying?". I understood it quite clearly. and i'm a foreign with engloish as second language. so you can imagine my utter uiprise with people complaining they can't udnerstand parts of the dialogue... and native english language speakers at that. it's puzzling like hell! i mean, it's not like they are all speaking with deep cockney accents, are they?

Don't ntake this the wrong way, i'm don't want to start a flame war or anything. But allow me to express my puzzlement at your mention above that you had trouble understanding the dialogues from Batman in TDK. It does puzzle me, because i didn't had any problem. And i'm a non-english native speaker foreigner, meaning, english is my second language. I have no super powers in regard to understanding dialogue. i mean, to this day i still can't understand half the dialogue that Clooney says in A PERFECT STORM. I just find it puzzling, that's all.

BRITS??? YOUR TALKING ABOUT LONDON.BRITAIN IS 3 COUNTRIES,SCOTLAND WALES AND ENGLAND,AND ENGLISH IS NOT THE SCOTS AND WELSH NATIVE LANGUAGE.THE WHOLE OF BRITAIN IS NOT ENGLAND.U YANKS NEED TO GET EDUCATED OR AT LEAST SOME GEOGRAPHY LESSONS.BANE DOESNT HAVE ABRITIS ACCENT AS THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS BRITAIN IS MOR ETHAN ONE COUNTRY.HIS ACCENT IS ENGLISH,WHAT SSO HARD TO UNDERSTAND ABOUT THAT.??

You clearly don't know anything about Batman. That's fine, it's not a requirement... but don't pretend you do. Nolan's Batman IS the 80s through 90s Batman. The stories for Begins and Dark Knight were written by David Goyer, who knows a fuck of a lot more about Batman than you do. There is not one trait in Bale's Batman that does not fit with the 80s/90s Batman. It's all there.

...my first response was "until Warner Brothers reboots the series". The end of Nolan's version, anyway. Can't wait!!

Honestly, I was exaggerating a little bit. I didn't miss "half" Batman's dialogue in TDK. But I found his ridiculously deep, gravelly voice to be laughable. And I definitely missed lines here and there. I have NOT seen the prologue to TDKR and I don't plan to. (I want to see the entire film in one sitting, not 5 minutes of it then have to wait seven months to see the rest!) I will be seeing it, of course, in the theater. I consider "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight" to be the masterpieces of the superhero genre and can't wait to see the third and concluding movie in the saga. But I am not looking forward to having to strain my ears and say "What did he say?" constantly throughout the movie. Like I said in a previous post, Nolan may have his reasons, that may even pay off in the plot of the film, for having Bane be unintelligible. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and I'm not one of those calling for him to make changes. It's his film and he can do what he wants with it. But he should also be prepared for the repercussions: If Bane is unintelligible and it makes the plot of the movie hard to follow, it could affect repeat business (or increase it, LOL) which could affect the movie's gross.

Bane: "Youuuhhnuuuht...guintu, win" Batman: "Whaaaaat?" Bane: "Youuuhhnuuuht...guintu, win" Batman: "Ah, c'mon man, speak up, you're breaking my back here!"

Interestingly, the gravely voice they use whenever Bruce Wayne is Batman is one of the things i love Nolan's Batman movies so much. It actually makes a lot of sense, in nthat serves the double purpose of disguising his voiceso nobody can identify him, and also to use to scare and intimidate the miscreants. A rich boy who's the city's most identifiable person running around dressed as a Bat kicking ass and using his normal voice would be a sure way to get himself tagged from hour one, and anonymacy is one of the big thing in the batman, or obvious reasons. Remember what Carmine Falconi said to Wayne in their meeting in Batman Begins, that if Wayne tried to confront him, jhe would shoot everybody in his life, including Rachazel Dawes and Alfred. The Batvoice is just another precaution when Wayne is Batman. And that it's scary as fuck, if you are on the recieving end of the Batman's wrath.
