"Ki-Ki-Ki...Ma-Ma-Ma!" Calling All LA-Area Friggatriskaidekaphiles (Yes, That's Latin for Lovers of FRIDAY THE 13TH)! Two Screenings and Tons of Music!

Published at: Dec. 17, 2011, 3:02 p.m. CST

Greetings! ScoreKeeper here taking a stab at delivering a slice of news impaling Los Angeles area friggatriskaidekaphiles with the machete of merriment. The FRIDAY THE 13TH films are horror royalty. Few characters in cinema are as iconic and as enduring as Jason Voorhees. His legacy spans twelve films, a television series, comic books, web sites, and miscellaneous merchandise as far as the eyes can see.

On Friday, January 13, 2012, the good folks at La-La Land Records will be celebrating the release of their brand new 6-CD box set featuring Harry Manfredini's never-before-officially-released complete scores for  FRIDAY THE 13TH PARTS I - VI, with a double-feature 35mm screening of FRIDAY THE 13TH (1980) and FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VI: JASON LIVES (1986).

A Q&A panel will follow "Part 1" featuring special guests Harry Manfredini, actress Adrienne King (FRIDAY THE 13TH and FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2) and actors Thom Matthews, David Kagen, Darcy DeMoss, Vinnie Guastaferro, and Nancy McLoughlin (all from FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 6) hosted by ShockTillYouDrop.com managing editor Ryan Turek. Who knows who else lurks close by waiting in the wings to make their appearance? More guests will be announced later!

This rare event will take place on Friday, January 13, 2012, at the Historic Vista Theater in Los Angeles (4473 Sunset Dr.) starting at 9:30pm. Tickets are only $15 and available now at www.creaturefeatures.com.

The 6-CD box set featuring Manfredini's scores (limited edition of 1300 units) will be available for $70 (cash only, tax included). The box set will also be available to order online on January 13, 2012 at www.lalalandrecords.com.

"Ki-ki-ki...Ma-ma-ma"

On Saturday, January 14th at 2pm, Harry Manfredini will appear at Dark Delicacies in Burbank to sign copies of the new box set. If you'd like to order a copy of the box set signed by Harry Manfredini you can do so at Dark Delicacies (look under Signings/Events). They don't charge any extra for the autograph but you better hurry because they'll cut off orders after a certain amount.

my script idea I had years and years ago , about a Friday the 13th set in the desert of west texas. A contemporary western with Jason knocking off the members of one of those City Slicker's type cattle drives. Not to mention it would've featured jason Voorhees riding a big silly looking zombie horse!!! lmao

  • Dec. 17, 2011, 3:12 p.m. CST

Had the same idea for a Fast and The Furious film...

    by notcher

Taking place in the old west. Turns out O'Conner and Torretto had ancestors who battled each other as Marshal and train robber. "The Fast and The Furious, Horse Power." Totally would sell!!!!!

Yeah, it does sound more like that, but the ki-ki-ki ma-ma-ma is what Mrs. Vorhees hears in the first one. Supposedly it's supposed to be here hearing Jason saying "Kill Mom." As in kill the ones responsible. Cool idea, even though it doesn't sound like that or make sense for the sequels, but it's Friday the 13th, who cares? BRING IT!

  • Dec. 17, 2011, 5:06 p.m. CST

Feels like F13th is overly praised now...

    by MST3KPIMP

which is a weird feeling having grown up in the 80's , supporting the franchise, dressing as Jason for Halloween, reading Fangoria ect. Jason was synonymous with trash and corrupting the youth. Ever seen Roger Ebert lose his shit? The attacks and misunderstandings just made me love horror more even though I recognized the films werent all up to snuff 'a new beginning and Jason takes Manhattan" were not high marks. But it seems F13 on the whole has been elevated to a level that gives it too much prestige. Nostalgia aside the series started as a Halloween rip-off and rolled out a series of kills with varying levels of creativity. It's awesome for many reasons but it a'int Hitchcock nor does it need to be. Perhaps prestige doesn't suit Jason and he needs to stay 'trashy'.

Not to knock you, but Friday the 13th is the benchmark of why Sequels and spinoffs all began. It is a stamp of horror culture. I mean, All the sequels, going to space..etc. I just don't think it is hard to see how this progressed so many things that still occur to this day. It damn near started the whole cash in sequel craze. Why do we have Saw 7: the final chapter, Halloween:Resurrection, Lephrechaun in space, Hellraiser 7. Look no further than Friday. I know what your saying, but it earns its Prestige. I remember manning the Cable box to watch Part 6 in the middle of the day, when my parents were having a get together. They were downstairs playing cards, and about 10 of us kids and Jr. high schoolers were upstairs. Had to turn that damn lock out key when they came to check on us, but we sure had a fun time watching that. Even had a sensible argument in grade school, how I should be able to stay up late and Watch Friday part 2, because it was edited for television to my parents. They wouldn't let me and I cried all night. Yeah, I was into horror. Then I just started going to my friends house and watch whatever on HBO. Then I would tell my parents that I saw Creepshow anyway and it was great. I essentially broke them, and they realized that stuff like friday is pure fun. Even for kids. Sorry for the rant, but Friday is the theater and VHS staple that started the trends for a generation. It deserves its status.

    I agree with mst3kpimp

    by Max

Friday the 13th(1980) ripped off Halloween(1978), sorry phantomcreeps Friday the 13th is not the reason for sequel trends.

  • It is too bad an education grounded in classical languages, literature, history and philosophy has gone by the wayside.

  • All the ripoffs and sequels that happened because of "Halloween." I think Carpenter started it, but I think ultimately multiple franchises contributed to the sequel trends, including "Friday the 13th." But give credit where its deserved, "Halloween" started the genre. IMO.

    For fucks sake

    by phantomcreeps

I know Friday ripped off Halloween. That is not what I'm talking about. Are you mothers fuckers, saying I'm not right about friday starting all the shit we see today? Halloween II was made after Friday to cash in on the craze. They are both staples. Yes, Friday copied Halloween, and then, even Halloween and everyone, copied Friday. Shit, Even Friday the 13th, is A remake of Bavas' Bay Of Blood, Or Twitch of the Death Nerver. I'm Just saying Give Friday the 13th its props. Ther is no reason to question this franchise. I like Saturday the 14th too:)

  • Dec. 17, 2011, 6:15 p.m. CST

You Kinda just backed up what I said Phatomcreeps...

    by MST3KPIMP

You say F13 earned its prestige by being a maverick in the art of franchising by going into Space or Manhattan ect.. I would argue that this is what reduced the character and killed the franchise. It's like when people say New Kids on the Block were great because they inspired the likes of N'Sync as they strategically gathered a bunch of white kids and marketed them selling black music to white girls. Of course NKOTB and F13 were not the first in these respects as there were plenty of franchises like Planet of the Apes, the Airport movies or even classic monsters.. I mean it got so nuts that Lon Chaney Jr. was wolfing out with Abott & Costello!

  • Dec. 17, 2011, 6:16 p.m. CST

Also Leperchaun went into Space 4 years BEFORE Jason!..

    by MST3KPIMP

    So there!

  • Dec. 17, 2011, 6:21 p.m. CST

    Jeez

    by phantomcreeps

I meant nerve, and there. I won't complain about an edit function. My point simply is: Halloween Began everything, shit Really Psycho did, Friday copied and started the sequel craze. If your argument is that Halloween started the sequel craze, your dead wrong. They made Halloween II, to cash in on the sucess of Friday. They worked hand in fist with each other. Why did Halloween III:season of the witch not have Myers? They never planned it, Friday went with it. What the heck, is your guys and gals argument?

  • Dec. 17, 2011, 6:32 p.m. CST

Halloween II was made to cash in on F13's sucess?

    by MST3KPIMP

I'm pretty sure Halloween II was made to cash in on the success of Halloween which was the most profitable independent film ever.

  • Dec. 17, 2011, 6:34 p.m. CST

Okay we can go round and round

    by phantomcreeps

But my point still stands. Friday started all the shit. Sequels, franchising, and yes mst3Kpimp, ruining the characters. I know, as well as you all do. Anyway, to change the subject... What is your favorite scene of all the Fridays? To Everyone? Not trying to argue :) Especially, about horror movies.

  • Dec. 17, 2011, 6:45 p.m. CST

    mst3kpimp Yes! Good god.

    by phantomcreeps

Friday the 13th came out in 1980 to cash in on Halloween. Halloween II came out in 1981, because Friday was trumping Halloween from 1978. Carpenter Wasn't really on board for this sequel and wanted to do something different when Season of the witch was created. Come on now.

  • Dec. 17, 2011, 6:47 p.m. CST

Phantom I will give you one thing...

    by MST3KPIMP

Halloween TOTALLY ripped off F13 4 with the whole gimmick of having the audience think that the traumatized kid was going to be the killer. Corey Feldman was a trailblazer in this respect.

  • Dec. 17, 2011, 6:54 p.m. CST

Phantom how did Jason open doors for straight to VHS releases?..

    by MST3KPIMP

every Friday film was released theatrically.

  • Dec. 17, 2011, 6:59 p.m. CST

Yeah Part 4 is my favorite

    by phantomcreeps

it really is a great film all around. Played it on a Halloween night for people that were just kind of aware/knew of Friday. They loved it. The scene where the girl is thrown out the window on to the car. Damn, that was one brave stuntgirl. And Feldman coming down the stairs, shaved head, chopping up Jason. Damn, what a scene. Then Jason slowly, slides, down the machete. Who Boy! I luv ya ,mst3kpimp, Wish we could hang out and watch all these great flicks. By the way, I pretty much hate when Jason X (FUCK) is in space. The scene where the black dude comes back and pretty much windshield wipes Jason from Exploding back into the ship is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. It is hilarious, but good god. Please remind yourself, I'm sure it is on youtube. Worst moment in The Friday Franchise :)

  • Dec. 17, 2011, 7:10 p.m. CST

    mst3kpimp

    by phantomcreeps

It opened the doors, because they realized that the Friday films were making bank. Everyone was renting the sequels in the video store. I really ask you, what movies had six freakin sequels you could rent at the video store, other than Friday, back in the day? All the studios, realised this. Thus you get Puppet master VS. Demonic toys. Who else, what other franchise, had lets just say 5 sequels other than Friday on the Rental Shelf. This really isn't that hard. Please name me one, that happened before Friday the 13th hit the VHS wall.

    Platoon?

    by phantomcreeps

Well, Fiday the 13th started the extreme gore to the actual Mainstream. Yes there was H.G. Lewis and Grindhouse, but Friday brought it to the youg'ns. Made them think about having the sex and getting chopped up for it. And don't forget the Drugs. Platoon in a way, shows this in a more realistic depiction. Young kids going off to a foriegn land, doing drugs, probably thinking about sex. Then they gety killed for these silly, petty, natural thoughts. So Friday opened the door for mainstream Horror flicks. Platoon opened the door for mainstream War flicks. You got my goat, mst3kpimp, but I' will play. Gotcha back. Fucker:)

    by SebastianHaff

Seriously. Spooge everywhere. I'm so excited for this. It's just... I mean.... Oh, fuck, where do I begin? <br><p> I love these movies dearly. And the music? Holy shit! I've been pirating Friday the 13th music for years, but have never been satisfied. I've been praying for an official release since I was 13 or 14. Was always told there wasn't actually very much music, that the budgets were so low they reused music from film to film except for the opening and closing titles. I'm so happy we have a chance to get everything they recorded. <br><p> But the part that's causing my multiple orgasms is the idea that we might FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY get to hear the version of Sail Away Little Sparrow that had lyrics! I love that fucking song. I play the diner scene in part one all the time just so I can hear it. I was able to pirate the instrumental version years ago, and it's great, but I love that weird country western version in the diner. <br><p> I did some digging a long time ago and was told Manfredini literally only recorded as much of that song as is in the movie. It's supposedly not even a full song, he just recorded the parts that you hear in the diner. Even if that's true, and I hope it isn't, I'd be happy to have even a cut up version of it on CD. <br><p> I will never apologize for Friday the 13th. Though I actually liked it better when it was considered trash. Jason's gotten way too cuddly and hip with the last couple films. I still say the first one is a genuinely scary campfire horror story. The fifth one, which is INCREDIBLY underrated, is a full on exploitation feature, made just at the very tail end of the grindhouse 'genre'. After that they started getting 'glossy.' And I still loved them! <br><p> Except the fucking remake. That's honestly the only one where I can't find a single redemptive quality. <br><p> Anyway, this CD release is remarkable news. I'm going to go change my underwear now.

    by Bouncy X

what other franchise, regardless of genre can say they released 8 movies within a ten year span. i mean think about it, there are only 2 years in the 80s where there wasn't a Friday movie released. thats just nuts. lol so i'm guessing there's gonna be a second volume in the future containing Parts 7 through 10? and thats something else, Manfredini composed 9 of the 10 first movies. but i'm guessing his un-involvement in Part 8 might have been planned as his replacement was his co-composer for Part 7. maybe he was booked for another movie at the time and suggested the guy.

    I unabashedly love Jason Lives

    by Kammich

"New Beginning" was a misfire in concept(although cool at times in its execution), but I've always felt like "Jason Lives" did the best job of FULLY embracing the ludicrousness of the slasher sub-genre. They make no apologies for a lightning bolt turning Jason into a zombie. Logic? Logic is for pussies! It also has some great, great gore-gags. The infamous sleeping bag death in "New Blood" gets more pub, but I've always loved the triple decapitation of the paintballers in "Jason Lives." Full disclosure: I am a "Halloween" kid. I own every single Halloween film on DVD, and love every last one in their own terrible, misguided ways, like children. And I probably place the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" series ahead of Friday too, but I still LOVE Friday and have seen every single one numerous times. If pressed to rank them, I'd probably have to go with... 1. Jason Lives 2. The Final Chapter 3. Friday the 13th Part II 4. Friday the 13th(1980) 5. The New Blood 6. Friday the 13th Part III 7. A New Beginning 8. Jason X 9. Jason Takes Manhattan 10. Friday the 13th(2009) 11. Jason Goes to Hell

i'm very late to the Friday party

    by Bouncy X

i was never a fan really until the last few years. i of course knew the movies and had seen them all but i've always been a "Freddy guy". but during all the hype for the Vs. movie our horror channel had a marathon of every movie in each franchise leading to its release and i sorta appreciated them a little more watching it all then. so i eventually got that 1-8 box set paramount made shortly after and eventually got the last 2 over the years. being a "new fan", my favorite of course is one of the movies many seem to dislike (Part 7) and i think the remake is the movie the first few thought they actually were but had no hopes of ever achieving. :P so i don't love the franchise enough to buy merchandise (unless its Vs. related) but this is indeed a cool release for those fans who are. i know how i'd feel if they did this to Elm Street. as for the "Friday started or at least helped out the endless sequel trend" issue well anybody growing up in the 80s would have to be blind to not see and admit that. i mean as i said, there were 8 movies between 80 and 89 along with 5 Elm Streets, 4 Halloweens and the endless list of other franchises big and small either starting or continuing their own franchises. some only made it to Part 2 but there were many horror sequels in the decade.

Kammich, how is the THE THING Remake/sequel?

    by phantomcreeps

I just can barely stand to watch it, but I've read the Dark Horse Comics. Escape from New York is my Favorite film of all time for various reasons. I loathe, and almost hate carpenter for L.A. It's not that I don't have friends, but I was about to shit my pants in excitement, for la. Went by myself, opening day, in the afternoon. Walked out dazed, I mean, It was way worse than the Phantom Menace. My friends get my goat all the time by bringing that atrocity up. I want to see it, but please tell me it's not ESCAPE FROM L.A. bad.

Was JASON alive or DEAD at the start of 2...

    by KHjLL

Just want to say I'm sad I can't be at the show very sad... 2 and 6 and 4 and 9 10 and 11 are my favorite... There is no remake to whoever suggested such a thing... And why do people keep suggesting JASON was only a ZOMBIE in part 6? VICTOR MILLER the creator of the STORY or writer himself said that JASON was dead before the 1st and was dead at the end of the first... So wouldn't that mean he's dead... TOM SAVINI - Said the same to.. I wrote my part 12 13 and 14 satarts with JASON:THE CRYSTAL LAKE CURSE...

phantomcreeps, the woods man. So check this out...

    by Grammaton Cleric Binks

Okay not really my hometown, but my Dad's. When he retired from the military we moved back one town over, but could literally throw a rock across the border. We used to bike to the lake where they filmed this. It's so big it's in three towns. The village, when they were first arriving is where my Dad grew up. Now instead of the Country Grocer, the gas station, etc. it's all friggin antique shops for the weekenders. The phone booth was a fake. There never was one there. When they towed their buddy's truck around the corner as a joke, well in reality he wouldn't have caught them. Around the corner is a steep hill. The street where they stopped is up the hill, and the American Legion Hall is there. Parts of the movie were filmed at this lake's state park, and others one town over at another state park. The bar was real, but it burned down a few years after the movie. Then some weekend out of stater bought the land, some association bought the beach across the street to prevent locals from using the beach. My grandfather owned what was the town beach years ago, but sold it to the town long before I was born.

khjll, if he was dead the whole time

    by Kammich

Why did he not start to decompose until "Jason Lives"? From his appearance at the end of Part I, all the way through until the end of "Final Chapter," he is a completely and structurally--albeit damned ugly--human being. It is not until he is buried and then resurrected in "Jason Lives" that his skull is eaten away, his ribs exposed, his entrails falling out, his flesh infested with maggots and worms. I dunno, personally I never considered him to be "dead" until after "Final Chapter." I just considered him to be an unstoppable beast of nature. But, from part 6 onward, I always considered him a zombie.

KAMMICH.. Its a curse as the warnings comply...

    by KHjLL

Not nessacarly a ZOMBIE but like a zombie a curse... He drowned right... Back came back... If he was there and his mother knew than why did she keep telling the counslers you let my JASON drowned... All the why'll saying kill'em mommy kill'em... I always thought JASON was an unstoppable beast but a curse of CRYSTAL LAKE... and that he was killed in every episode but came back... Part 2-4 all happened in a few days... I figured he decomposed as he was butched by his victims.... If your read my JASON:THE CRYSTAL LAKE CURSE u'd understand hard to explain it all but I tie in every single episode in the series in it and the following 2 I wrote that gives the entire series continuity... I'm a Huge fan but SAVINI has said he's dead and was killed in the first 2nd 3rd and 4th installment... So if he drowned came back and live like a beast in the wood lived off the land and grew with every kill it would feed the CRYSTAL LAKE CURSE... Of FRIDAY THE 13th... So I did what all the writers and directors did watched all of the installments and wrote 3 new installments based on the series and the writers and directors opinions of each installment... My 3 films starts in the the 60-70 and has scene that tie in each episode and mostly the first and second...

  • Dec. 18, 2011, 7:08 p.m. CST

its very simple (regarding when jason is a zombie)

    by Bouncy X

Part 1 was meant as a one shot, standalone story so yes he is already dead before the movie starts. he did die as a child and thats that. of course the movie was a success and with mommy dead they decided to make jason the killer and just retcon the first movie a little. so now he actually survived the drowning and grew up in or around the woods and he witnessed his mom's death thus leading to part 2 and beyond. sure that doesn't explain why he waited so long to make his presence known, especially for his mom's sake but 1) he was retarded and 2) thats the brakes when you retcon stuff that wasn't planned. i'm sure if they would have had any inkling this might lead to a franchise or had any plans to continue, they might have said or implied he disappeared in the lake and no body was ever found. but alas that isn't how it went down. continuity has never been a friend to horror franchises from the 80s so this sorta thing is to be expected.

    JASON dead of alive...

    by KHjLL

Part 2 was a camp fire story... JASON drowned in the lake... Too follow the story you start at the begining They were telling a story to scare the counselors has nothing to do with what happened that night or after how would the counselors know it was a story pasted on from person to person like a camp fire tale is everytime someone tells it it;s going to be different.. Sorry just looking at it from my interpritation... Cause I can tell you a story and when you tell someone else the same story I told you it's going to sound different and the story will have changed its like the game you played in class what was it PHONE you start at one side of the class tell someone something and whisper it to the next person by the time the last person hears it its totally soemthing different... -Just like the GRIMM stories their isn't one that the same as the other through out history its always changed HANSEL and GRETEL - CINDERALLe the GRIMM's story themselves... But the film is called FRIDAY THE 13th... A bad luck day to DIE.... JASON drowned and what happened has never been explain... My interpretation... And it has never been show on the screen so nobody really knows... DUNES was going to show their version of what happend with JASONS dad but didn't... I wrote what who I thought JASONs dad was... What happened after he drowned and to some of the counselors in PART 1... which would give the entire series continuity throughout...even HELL....N X... and 8 even VS... but most of all part 11...

    surving the trauma

    by Bouncy X

how many horror movies have the villain survive or take stuff that would maim or kill anyone else? i mean look at Michael Meyers, he's stabbed in the eye and then shot 6 times in a row and still lives like its nothing and this is in the first movie before he became the typical 80s slasher. its just part of the genre, especially in the 80s, to have the killer be unstoppable even if they are only human.

    by KHjLL

In part 1 his mother and the counslers say that JASON drowned... In part 2 the counselors tell a camp fire story that JAOSN drowned and some suspect that he might not of but its never explained that he did... Int he rest of the series they keep telling the story and showing newspaper clippings that JASON drowned... In FREDDY vs. JASON they re-itterate that FREDDY drowned JASON... Dont mean to beat a dead horse but its up for interpritation but I gotta go with the ones that wrote and created the series...

It's uncanny how good F13 part VI is...

    by REMcycle

...it's the first F13 my parents openly allowed me to watch; the rest I had to hide and make sure they didn't know I was watching. Hell, when that little nerd guy shot Jason with a paintball my father and I laughed and laughed...and the Alice Cooper "Constrictor" soundtrack was just so RIGHT for that movie... I'll always give it up for the first one being the best...it is the ONLY remotely scary one...but the sixth is just a perfect representation of 80's horror. I wish I could be at this event. Sounds like something the Drafthouse would throw.
