As Predicted Dec. 12, 1998,
Jimmy Fallon Hosts Tonight’s
Final SNL Episode Of 2011!!
Dec. 12, 1998 marked Jimmy Fallon’s ninth episode of “Saturday Night Live.” The cast of that episode included Will Ferrell, Cheri Oteri, Molly Shannon, Ana Gasteyer, Darrell Hammond, Chris Parnell, Chris Kattan, Tim Meadows, Tracy Morgan, Colin Quinn and Horatio Sanz. None of whom appear in this clip from Fallon’s ninth SNL:
It’s slightly interesting that readers complain because the 1998 clip predicts Fallon will host Dec. 12, 2011 instead of Dec. 17, 2011 – yet no reader has yet objected to the fact that the current SNL cast does not really include Drew Adams, Michael Butler, Arianna Cleo, John Goodman and Kevin Wallarski. Nor do we moan about the recently disbanded R.E.M. not really being tonight’s musical guest. (Though maybe we should; Michael Buble is nowhere near as awesome as R.E.M.)
Fallon ditched SNL May 15, 2004, but made seven surprise SNL appearances in the seven years since, usually impersonating Barry Gibb. Earlier this year he played half of the Ambiguously Gay Duo opposite Jon Hamm:
Fallon replaced fellow SNL vet Conan O’Brien as host of NBC’s “Late Night” in 2009. Fallon’s current sidekick, “Late Night” announcer Steve Higgins, joined SNL’s writing staff in 1995 and continues to write for SNL today.
My favorite bit from last week’s episode:

One of my favorite monologues ever, I love the futuristic SNL theme music and the future cast. If they don't bring back Alec Baldwin and John Goodman for this episode I will be furious. Heck, they should bring back all the fictional 2011 cast members and the theme music and everything.
-
Fuck you right in your lame ass skirt . .
-
were too lazy to check ahead in the calendar and realize Dec 12th, 2011 falls on a MONDAY....not on a Saturday. Course, back then, their computer's calendars probably stopped at Dec 31st, 1999....Y2K non-compliant pieces of shit!
I agree, tho....If they make no effort to pay homage to that old clip, somebody has dropped the ball big time!!
Kristin Wiig has NEVER. LOOKED. SEXIER. as Flirt Girl!! She could reprise that character every week and drop the 19 others she has driven into the ground & I'd be happy.

The Jimmy Fallon and The Rock sketch was the best
by Grammaton Cleric Binks
The first time Dwayne hosted he played the monkey dad to Jimmy Fallon's monkey boy.
-
Whether you like Bachman or not, you don't invited a guest to you place, and then insult them first thing.
-
And because he landed a hot supermodel wife that doesn't speak english.

Yes, Fallon should have fired the Roots. He acted like a pussy.
by mypalfish
Either fire them, or say it was just a joke (which it wasn't) and no big deal. But to give a half-assed apology and never mention the incident on his show is gutless and cowardly. Whatever your personal politics, you do not invite a guest on and then suckerpunch them like that. Jay Leno is a big time liberal, but treats all political guests with class.
-
A lantern-jawed douche? Yes. A liberal? Absolutely not.
-

You do invite a guest and suckerpunch them if you're as awesome as the Roots and the guest is a hidious, bug-eyed Christo-fascist!

Loved how she dropped a subtle, but probably unintentional dis on horse-headed SJP. "When I was seven or eight I saw the show she hosted." Heh. That's gotta burn.

I hate Adam Sandler, so naturally I hate this horrible Sandler clone even more
by MrEkoLetMeLive
Was there anything more annoying than when Jimmy Fallon and Horatio Sanz would laugh in the middle of their sketches? What a fucking asshole. The Roots should have fired his ass.
-
The first skit involves Questlove drilling Jimmy Fallon's butt while the little man/boy screams "I'm the lying bitch! I'm the lying bitch!" over and over again. Brian Gibson moderates...
-
Leno and his even more liberal wife Mavis are involved in a ton of lefty environmental causes. He's not quite as extreme as Letterman, but he's definitely left of center politically.
-
Participating in feuds with talk show hosts, even if they deserve it, should be the last thing on her mind if she's running for president.

No way the most talented late night band working is going to get fired over some snarky song choice. Bachmann isn't even a factor in this election. The majority of the time she speaks, she out of sorts on the issues. Was it disrespectful? Yes. Was it funny if you knew the song? Also, yes. It's a late night humor show. Not Meet the Press.
-
and is a super model? Nice pull man you're living the dream, nailing a hot broad you don't have to speak to.

Jimmy trusts the Roots to make their own "Guest Intro" song choices...
by Cheif Brody
99.9% of the time, they fuckin' nail it with something off kilter and hilarious. ONE TIME in 2 and a half years, The Roots blew it...and made a bad choice.
Sure, they could have played "American Girl" by Tom Petty...and NO ONE WOULD BE TALKING ABOUT THAT MORON'S APPEARANCE ON THE SHOW.
The Roots actually did that crazy-eyed bitch a FAVOR (inadvertantly)! Her appearance got MORE play in the press BECAUSE of The Roots disrespectful song choice.
You can bet The Roots got a stern warning, and ALL their Guest Intro tunes get screened from now on before cameras roll. No reason to FIRE the best band in Late Nite over what will eventually be a long forgotten answer to a trivia question. Jimmy did the RIGHT thing to apologize for his band, and NOT mention it ever again...or give her any more press.
By the way...SNL can openly call Michelle Bachman a Lyin Ass Bitch in their LIVE skits....and no one blinks an eye. But the Roots do it RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER...and everyone is appalled? The Roots have more balls than SNL. Oh, and they like to smoke weed...so they prefer Ron Paul.
FACT!
-
Dec. 17, 2011, 11:42 a.m. CST
Oh, and it would be NBC...NOT Fallon...who would be pressured to fire The Roots.
by Cheif Brody
Guess the network had no problem with the song choice either. So...there ya go.
-
Dec. 17, 2011, 11:43 a.m. CST
Don't like Bachman but that song choice WAS classless
by OutsideChance
If Fallon invited on, for example, Bill Clinton, would the Roots get away with "Liar Liar"? Of course not. Nor should they. If someone's your guest, treat them with common courtesy, no matter their politics.
-
...Patti Smith's "Rock and Roll N*gger." See how quickly they last at NBC.

by Cheif Brody
"It's the End Of The World (As We Know It)".
-
He is a fantastic MC and his show has a fun energy to it. Obviously the Roots bring the cool factor and attract lots of good acts. Alot of the attempts at comedy are DOA but his impressions are always great and some of the games & spontaneous banter with his sidekick make for great T.V.

Jimmy Fallon is really average looking. I go to school with guys way sexier.

Apparently, you guys haven't heard that The Roots' song selection...
by Mr. Nice Gaius
...will, in fact, be screened and approved by NBC execs prior to broadcast. They have also been asked not to discuss the matter further (i.e. Twitter). Although it was an unclassy cheap shot, it doesn't mean that the song selection wasn't spot-on.

SNL bashers are always hating on skits/characters that do the same thing over and over, yet they give a pass to Stefon for some reason even though his schtick is ALWAYS the same: "New York's hottest club is (insert name here)" followed by a whole bunch of bizarre non-sequiturs and usually something about a midget. Funny stuff, sure, but always the same. And a lot of times Hader can't even get through the bit without breaking up and laughing into his hands. So what gives?
-
As the previous poster said, its the same damn thing over and over.
-
A few days after they did that, a woman approached me in tears, and told me that because of that Roots song choice, her daughter was now mentally retarded.
-
i think its just fun and funny seeing him try to get through those. not because its funny seeing him crack but because you know thats the first time he's seeing these things so its a genuine reaction and not a "jimmy fallon laughing" thing. so its one thing to say these things with a straight face but to then have to try and say them with a striaght face while staying in character. its funny stuff sometimes.
-
considering how much politicians lie to people in public on a daily basis, whats wrong with someone being honest about what they think of em and doing it in their face or in this case, it the vicinity of it? of course if she was man this wouldn't have been an issue in the least no matter how "bad" the song choice might have been. gotta love the uber PC times we live in.

Saturday Night Live hasn't been the same since Kevin Wallarski died of a drug overdose
by Doctor_Strangepork
Which of course means no more Ninja Mummy movies. Arianna Cleo's Mummy Tamer character was always so funny.
-
If anything they should have sung the song outloud-lyrics and all-and then had a circle jerk right onto her face....all on TV.
-
wtf has that wide-eyed wack-job bitch ever done or actually accomplished to earn an ounce of respect from anyone??? Here's a woman who gets interviewed or has debates and when she is asked an important straight forward question about what she would do "as president of the United states" she stands up there and takes the opportunity to NOT answer the question and just randomly bash Obama. Yeah I know that's typical political shit....but she takes it to a whole new level. It's like she thinks the country is stupid and has no issues with insulting our intelligence with her idiocy. I wont even mention how often she's flat out lied or been caught saying insane shit. She's also completely cool with stomping all over the rights of homosexuals (despite being married to one) and anyone who may want an abortion. Seriously - Bachman is a useless cunt. Oh boo fucking hoo - the Roots played a song that was a jab at her. I say fuck her and the crazy horse she rode in on. This bitch doesn't deserve an ounce of political power or influence, I wouldn't even trust her folding my laundry.

Maybe that's part of the joke - in 2011 Saturday Night Live airs on Monday nights. More likely, no one could be bothered to look up the closest Saturday to Dec. 12 in 2011 and just went with the same day. Another thought: in figuring out what Saturday in December in 2011 would be closest to the 12th, the person remembered to account for leap year in 2000 but promptly forgot to do so for the years 2004 & 2008. Kalle has an excellent research team; SNL, not so much.

Are you being serious? Did you watch any of the Democratic debates in 2004? No matter the topic, all the Dems hammered Bush incessantly and randomly. And that's just the way it always is when a President is up for re-election. In fact, these GOP debates have spent less time than usual bashing the current President, and instead are attacking each other. It would be nice to get some comments about politics that aren't just partisan spin.

Speaking of John Goodman, somebody get that man a hosting gig in January 2012!!

When was the last time he hosted? You can kinda say it's for promoting "The Artist" since I'm assuming it'll go wider in January.

Wow guys. You had it on your main page for all of 15m. Heh. Kind of sucks nowadays that everyone knows about the "web" and where to look for leaks. Ah if only it was 12-years ago.

Those of you who hated Fallon when he was a regular on the show - are you surprised how good he's doing now, hosting a decade later? The Buble duets was pretty hilarious!
-
Dec. 17, 2011, 10:55 p.m. CST
I'm no Fallon fan, but this has been pretty darn good so far.
by Shermdawg
Especially that Buble sketch.
-
He gets to host a 3rd time? And no one from the cast of Community has hosted yet?
-
And that mirror bit sucked.
-
testament to how fondly his sketches and that cast was remembered or how tired fans are of the current batch of sketches and this cast. I think that SNL sketches always look better with a few years on them. Sort of like Simpsons episodes. You always remark how average or marginal they are at the time, but they tend to grow on you during cable repeats and stick in the back of your head over the years.
-
I saw this one man show and this guy was just that sad and pathetic. Worse yet, his "comedy" was based around his dysfunctional childhood and the fact that his dad was dead.
-
Glad they brought this one back.
-
Glad to see Kattan still alive. Did he and Morgan ever bury the hatchet?
-
You could cut the tension on the right side of the screen with a knife.

re: "I think that SNL sketches always look better with a few years on them."

There is a bit of nostalgia to it. Also, you are seeing it new for the first time in many years, as opposed to seeing Fallon and his old SNL group every week doing the same skits over and over.
-
Is it playing before something in theaters now? If not, I guess someone with access to it screened if for a few friends. Sounded like a few people watching it as it was being recorded. I'm thinking that someone might be in the middle of getting fired right about now.
-
Or a nice sharp cheddar. Either one will suffice.

according to imdb.com. I don't watch the show, but I hear good things. For some reason I thought he was in some mock Bollywood tv-show too, but I can't find the reference.

The Middle is good. Kattan is on it maybe every two months
by SifoDyasJr
And even then he's forgettable. Love or hate Tracy Morgan, he's definitely not forgettable. I wonder if Will Ferrell returns Kattan's calls nowadays?
-
Jeez, can't his agent find him some better work? He seemed to be in all kinds of movies before he was on "Scrubs."
-
R.I.P. Rick Moranis?
-
Put it in prime-time. Open it up to anyone who was ever a cast member and go nuts for 90 minutes. Eddie would still be a no-show. It would get huge ratings. They sort of did this for the 25th Anniversary show and it was epic.
-
false alarm, don't trend it on twitter or anything

by Xiphos_2
Or did that happen already?

Good stuff. Armisen as Thom Yorke was great. "Ode To Joy" was inspired and fun.

Love the All Star SNL idea. That could/should be a whole other show. Call it "Ready For Prime Time". Air it "late" on Sunday nights. Give Sunday something for a change.

-
Did the show get funny after that?
-
It was pretty good up to Buble's first song (minus Wiig's "Don't Make Me Sing" skit.) I thought Samberg's Nick Cage was the best he's done on Weekend Update! I went to sleep after that, if you're old like me you watch the second half on the DVR in the morning.
-
And that is saying a lot. The writing really sucks this year. Oh sure there are laughs here and there but there wasn't any really funny episodes this year. The show is just resting on it's laurels. Now you are lucky to get one really funny skit per episode instead of the being really funny until after the weekend update.
