New GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE Feature Trailer!
Nordling here.
First off, yeah, that's Christopher Lambert in the trailer.
I enjoyed GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE at BNAT, but I was distinctly in the minority on that one. It could be because of the movie it followed, but I like Neveldine/Taylor's films (except for GAMER which I haven't seen) and this was pulpy but fun. But there were a lot of people at BNAT who just loathed this film, I'll be honest. You'll be able to decide for yourself come February 2012. For me, I thought Nicolas Cage seemed to be having a lot of fun with the role this time, and although I wouldn't say it was great cinema, it delivered on the level I expected it to. Here's the new trailer, courtesy of Yahoo Movies:
Nordling, out.

it was the most pointless waste of time ever! This one has a good trailer but it has the added crippling on 3D, so I'll save my money and go see something else! This trailer is really well cut though!
-
But I liked the first one so what the fuck do I know.
-
That looks awesome.

Although, I definitely acknowledge lots of problems with the first one
by Jaster Mareel
The jelly beans in the martini glass, the fact that Nick and Eva were the same age as kids then he looked twice her age as adults, the rules seeming to be more like guidelines by the end, etc. But for the most part it was a good time. This looks like an even better time. Diggin' the charred look this go round.
-
is the Orb in this?
-
Idris Elba at the beginning of the trailer?
-
The whole problem with the first one was the dialogue, it was really, really bad. The story was ok, the fx were decent, but the lines were really really corny. The preview for this one features some pretty bad dialogue, I hope it is not the case for the whole movie.
-
will be the good Nicholson impersonation of the next 20 years. I just hope for his sake *not the bees* won't end up being the catch phrase every impersonator goes to first. However, this looks like it will be tons more fun than that first film. And yes that does look like Lambert. Shot in 3d or conversion?

I'm telling y'all. 2012 may be the best year for movies of this decade, if not ever.
by DanielnocharismaCraig
Almost every sequel seems to hold more promise over the original. GI Joe 2 casting Bruce Willis as a main character, Expendables 2 with even more action stars and an almost guarantee of more gratuitous violence, now this. And we're not even talking about Avengers, Prometheus, Dark Knight Rises, or The Hobbit.
-
Was that the one about Eva Mendes sitting waiting in a restaurant for 75 minutes?
-
beyond awful. I guess if I was 15 it might be pretty cool though.
-
he'll see that movie
-
Looks better than the first. I want to like Nic Cage as this character. He's just, old. I actually own a few Ghost Rider comics. How many people here can really say that? Marvel horror at its best!
-
You might be right.

The first trailer for this movie looked fucking awesome! This one...not as much, but definitely doesn't look like shit, looks pretty good actually. A lot better than the first movie at least.
-
And as awesome as Cage is at "super acting" or my personal favorite, "extreme acting" (I believe Vern coined that one) I must say that these movies are dumb fun. Not dumb and mostly unwatchable like Transformers but just dumb and fun. The issue is movies like that are only "good" if they're re-watchable. Think 'Avatar' - ok, it's not "dumb" per se but it's not really a great movie either but it certainly is highly re-watchable for the visual aspects alone. I don't think one really needs to see the first Ghost Rider again even if it is dumb fun. Hopefully, this one will be different...and either way, it's always great to see Cage back in "extreme acting" mode (watched the excellent Cage flick 'Raising Arizona' the other day, might as well be a different person!)

Harry knows I'm a Marvel Bronze Age "Ghost Rider" fan, so I'm an easy mark for this, and there are some shots towards the end of the trailer that look like the "Road Warrior"-esque Ghost Rider movie in my head!
by The Reluctant Austinite
It's a fact about "Ghost Rider" that none of the comics ever birthed a great story arc like some other characters did (Spider-man with "The Death of Gwen Stacey," etc.) and they never really generated a great iconic villain either. The Rider's biggest enemy was himself and the demon, Zarathos, that possessed him. He also constantly had to deal with Mephisto and his offspring. But "Ghost Rider" fell as much into the genre of horror comic as it did superhero comic and that was a big part of his appeal to me in the 70's. There was also an Evel Knievel appeal and the cult of leather, chains and motorcyles. He was a character that was born in and belongs soley to the Marvel Bronze Age of the 1970's. It would be tricky for anyone to make a movie palatable to a modern audience using the elements that made Ghost Rider a fun and interesting character. For his fans, I think I can say we're just happy to getting another shot at adapting the character, no matter how it turns out.

Given the state of technology today, I often wonder how Netflix stays in business.
-
Loofa!
-
It's listed on the side as a top commented story, but has since been unpublished. Who has the footage?
-
And now the devil is awakening the antichrist and GR is fucking it up. So why doesn't the devil just void his pact with Johnny Blaze and take him out of the equation?
-
I'm liking the more "Road Warrior" vibe it has going for it.
-
Just cause a movie isn't out yet, doesn't make it desirable.
-
I actually enjoyed the first one. I don't think it was GOOD; I just enjoyed it. I'm happy for Nic Cage. Did you know he actually has a Ghost Rider tattoo? He had it even before he was cast in the first movie. Dude's been a comic book nerd all his life, so I'm happy he gets to be in these.
-
i HATED HATED the first one. that trailer though was cool. Nic Cage is just a horrible actor and his appearance ruins things. if they would have replaced him, this movie MAY have had a better chance.
-
Jokes aside it looks way better than the first, but I rather have this GR based on Danny Ketch than Johnny Blaze. (Ketch's Ghost Rider was more Violent and had no problem killing his opponents. Wellat least in the first 3 issues. Circa 1990.) PS Playing GR in Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 is one of the best reasons to buy this game.
-
WTF , Marvel.

Some of you may not know this but his real last name is Coppola
by Jaster Mareel
Maybe some of you don't know he is Francis Ford Coppola's nephew. Nick didn't want to make it in Hollywood on his uncle's name so he changed it to Cage....after Luke Cage (an old character from Marvel Comics).
-
The first film tried to make GR into a pg-13 kid friendly franchise. This on the other hand looks bad ass. Sure it's going to be odd in places but over all they've got the right idea. GR is suppose to be a hardcore superhero. Here he looks like he causes some serious damage with the chain of his. Unlike in the first one where GR barely did anything.

the level of insane awesome I was hoping for with the first one! NEVELDINE/TAYLOR for the WIN!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I was under the distinct impression that this would be R. I'm not sure why. Bummer. I really liked "Crank" and some of "Crank 2," but most--if not all--of my goodwill towards Neveldine/Taylor diminished with "Gamer." I'm not the type who complains about weird cinematography or camera sweeps(hell, Gaspar Noe's sweeping work at the beginning of "Irreversible" is some of my favorite), nor do I get motion sickness... but the camera work they did on "Gamer" flat out pissed me off. COMPLETELY took me out of the movie. "Hey, we filmed some of the actions scenes ourselves, while wearing rollerblades!" Really, Neveldine/Taylor? And you're proud of that? You shouldn't be. Because its a stupid fucking idea. As for this trailer... some of the "money shots" are pretty damn cool, and I LOVE to see Cage ham it up. So here's to hoping that Neveldine and Taylor restore some goodwill with this one.

wrath of fett... is the start of the nic cage as lule cage campaign?
by yourSTEPDADDY
the reverse donald glover!
-
If it is, then, at worst, it'll be the second worst movie ever made. God, Ghost Rider was such an inept pile of shit on virtually every level. The effects were pretty cool...and that was about it. It felt like they shot the first draft of the script, Cage acted completely fucking lost throughout the whole thing, the "demons" looked like a bunch of pussy goths, Blackheart looked like an emo bitch who would cry and cut himself in the corner...really, those guys were supposed to be scary? Gimme a break. What a pile of shit that flick was. This one at least looks like it could be decent popcorn fare.
-
the problems with the first movie were largely with the dialogue, but also with Cage. The story, the FX, the action weren't bad. But the dialogue was AWFUL and delivered badly by Cage. All that said, I didn't hate the first one and will eventually see this one....just not at the theater unless there's someone here who wants to get me super-shroomed beforehand.
-
I hated the first movie but that looks sweet.
-

-
Hell, it makes me want to rewatch the first one. I remember hating it, but if I think back I only remember cool parts (like how Cage suffered through the transformation while the Rider enjoyed it, the riding a motorcycle on the side of a building with flaming chains, some cool devil scenes, Horse Rider, Cage Mega acting). Why on earth was I angry with it, I never read a Ghost Rider comic in my life?
-
It's amazing to me that even a trailer can make over-the-top action seem boring.

by D.Vader
-
This is about everything one might expect from a decent Ghost Rider movie. It's not like the comic is deep literature. But it should be pulpy fun with lots of chains, road chases, demon stuff, and angst. Works for me.
-
...this looked rather good fun. Not surprised it didn`t go down well at BNAT, not quite geeky enough and up against some great movies - but as a standalone it looks promising.
-
I'll watch this on video probably. I liked the non-origin story parts of the first one. Basically, any part where he was the rider and not Nic Cage.
-
That you Davies?
-
Okay, I'm sold.
-
Ever notice how every word he utters is in a dull monotone? I think his prior successes are largely based on interesting stories coupled with excellent additional support casting. He's one of those 5 people in Hollywood who are freakishly over-rated, but still keep getting work, largely because they have devoted following, and even their box-office flops still gen well in home sales on DVD and now Blu-ray. I might catch it after it's in blu-ray

if a marvel movie has someone from a different comic movie it will suck. ex. ghost rider sucked and it had donal logue in it who was in blade. also another ex, cap america sucked to ME and it had chris evans who was in fantastic four. fantastic four sucked cuz jessica alba was in it and sin city. so...yea theory seems sound
-
It's just that this looks like he'll have better villains and action sequences.
-
And I never gave a fuck about Ghost Rider.

...I will walk out.
-
The CGI seems to blend in quite well and the action scenes look compact but intense. I'll give this a go.
-
It was so damn dumb. In the theater you are caught in the amazing 3D immersive environment, but forget that the story is asinine and the dialogue is idiotic. And, you have basically only one stand out acting performance -- Stephen Lang. Godfather I and II I can watch over and over and over again and pick up new little nuances each and every time. I can watch Roadhouse for some dumb reason, and marvel at the most underrated script of the 1980's. [Watch the movie and listen to the dialogue. It's great]. I managed to re-watch Dark Knight, and appreciated it better the second time. The first time I was focused on Heath Ledger almost the whole time. But, this time I tried focusing on the other characters, and was impressed with the acting. The other movie I can watch over and over again is The Incredibles. That movie is the greatest superhero mvie ever made, Dark Knight included. And, in 50 years it will be remembered more than TDK. It's a masterpiece.

I know my word can't be trusted because I am an ignorant sleep deprived moron, but this movie was mostly terrible. As bad as the first one, possibly worse. The first film at least had some relatively talented people in the secondary cast: Eva Mendes, Sam Elliot, Wes Bentley, Peter Fonda. This movie has Idris Elba (who is fine but deserves so much better) and Christopher Lambert (who looks cool but has essentially nothing to do). Every other cast member sucks: the "love interest," the devil, the kid (but I'll cut him some slack since he's a kid), and ESPECIALLY the main baddie/devil's henchman. Absolutely painful to watch. Moreover, the film looks cheap (nothing screams "tax writeoff" like a movie set in Eastern Europe) , is dull & redundant, has mediocre action setpieces, and sports some of the worst, cheesy dialogue one could imagine. Nic Cage is in "LOOK AT ME! I"M CRAZY NICOLAS CAGE!" mode, which is entertaining for five minutes, then just gets embarrassing. We've seen him do this so many times before to greater effect. And yes, the film had a tough act to follow in CABIN IN THE WOODS, but that's no excuse--I still really enjoyed THE GREY and MI: 4, which played later in the fest. But hey, don't take my word for it--apparently everyone who went to BNAT has shitty taste in movies. So go spend your $ on this flick. Enjoy.

Look at screencaps from the first movie and then watch this trailer: This Ghost Rider is of a different design.

Takes itself too seriously. CGI looks good but for some reason it doesn't add to the movie. The character itself is boring. GR is not a good franchise. Very dry material.

This is WEIRD! We've got everyone who actually saw the movie at BNAT saying it's terrible, and Talkbackers are being overwhemling POSITIVE regarding the trailer!
by The Reluctant Austinite
It's almost always the complete opposite of this. 99% of the time, AICN is telling everyone how great something could be, and the Talkbackers shit all over it saying it'll suck or tank. This is DAMN weird!
-
Cant wait loved the first and this looks ten times better... On a side not My MUMS married a man witrh the last name MCLEUD of the scottish clan MCLEOD..
-
I only read the first couple issues of the "new" GR in the 90s, so I don't know much about Ketch's history. Thought the origin was wacky with him touching the gas cap on a mystical bike to turn into GR. Maybe we'll get dueling GRs at the end of this one.
-
so yeah, I'll be watching it on TBS someday :P
-
the villian one might argue was GR's nemesis at the beginning of the danny ketch 90s run? because if so, BAD. ASS. and yeah, blanket-man, i thought the same thing about that "danny" kid. hmm... to imdb!! away!
-
actually they ARe using a villain from the comics .. in fact its my favorite Ghost Rider villain before the comic took a nose dive quality wise .. the 1st 25 issues featured a very good mix of supernatural and horror with the likes of Scarecrow, Mr Hyde and the guy from the trailer BLACKOUT who teamed up with Zodiac for some ultraviolence!
-
i almost forgot about that crazy mo-fo. ahhh, danny ketch ghost rider. so wonderfully 90s-riffic. now they just need to round out the "trilogy" by doing a blaze/ketch team-up picture w/the children of lilith storyline. talk about epic. if only THAT one could have been called "spiritS of vengeance". ah well.
-
if you held a gun to my head and forced me to chose between this and Justin Beiber: Never Say Never, I would pick Justin Beiber in a heartbeat.

No Eva Mendes in this one. Bummer.
-
I guess that just goes to show how little readers care about the opinions of AICN nowadays, especially since they've been so bizarre in the past (Harry loving A Nightmare on Elm Street remake and not liking Toy Story 3 or Inception, for example). The opinions of AICN just don't seem to hold any weight anymore.
-
I thought it could be Thomas, both he and Lambert look alike. Bad lines aside, this could be fun movie if you went in with the right attitude. Like a Friday the 13th type movie. Yes, the first one was so bad i don't even own it. Maybe for $5 on blu ray so i don't have to comp and edit it down to my own best CG shots. Hmm on 2nd thought maybe just GR re-mix with some music in the background.

i actually own the entire Dan Ketch series. GR has been my favorite comic since Vol. 2 issue #1. which is probably why i hated the first GR movie so badly! nicholas cage is just not right for johnny blaze, the demons were god awful, blackheart was a whiny emo kid, and eva langoria annoyed the crap out of me as roxanne! not really looking forward to this one either. glad to see Blackout as a villain. gotta love the guy who rips out ketch's throat and introduced the Rise of the Midnight Sons story-arc (which, by the way, brought Blade back to active-duty in Marvel). not feeling dan being turned into a child for this though.
