The MIB 3 Teaser Trailer!
Nordling here.
I've heard a few things about the MEN IN BLACK 3 shoot - a ton of reshoots, that they never nailed down the story, problems all throughout the thing. But I still think the premise is solid, I love the first film (even if the second film has problems) and I think it's a franchise worth seeing. So today we have a look at the new film, and it doesn't look bad at all. Josh Brolin looks like he's genetically spliced from Tommy Lee Jones. Hopefully the powers that be have the film figured out because I think the teaser works. Have a look for yourself:
MEN IN BLACK 3 opens Memorial Day. Nordling, out.

Hopefully it's good overall and better than the second one.
-
no way
-
I'll be there, with my son.
-
i just woke up, checking news..thought i had stumbled across being a loser first!
-
Very nice!
-
I'm jiggy wid it though
-
The first was a very solid 'ghostbusters' type adventure comedy and this looks like it could be good. Shame about the second one
-
Incredibly short movie tho... This trailer works great as a tease however...
-
the rest will be the troubled mess that the reports indicate, seems to me. and a 2-D graffitti alien? yeah i don't know. maybe the movie will show him to be a shape shifting ameoba or kind of lichen creature, or a colony of tiny little animals on the surface of the wall...otherwise, that's just goofy for the sake of being goofy and surprising (which it won't be, since the gag is blown by the teaser)
-
Had no expectations on this one, and wrote it off as a direct-to-DVD release...but, looks like some actual thought went into this. <p> Agree with Herc....can't wait to see more of Brolin channeling Tommy Lee!
-
That's going to be annoying.ya
-
Seems like they pulled something out of the train wreck of a shooting schedule. I wasn't expecting anything, but that looks like MiB...
-
Even Tommy Lee Jones looks a lot younger in this than he has in recent films.
-
I'm there
-
Color me interested.
-
...me and my son (who just discovered the first flick) will be front and center.
-
Can we have the PROMETHEUS trailer now, please?!

Ok.. 1st one wasn't Terribl, the 2nd one WAS terrible... but this looked damn good.

I might actually buy this on Blu when it comes out!

*Aww Hell Nawwww, you did NOT just call me articulate.* Actually hope this is fun, because I actually enjoyed the last 2. Not amazing films or anything, but fun. Many hated it, but I loved the little society inside the locker.

why call it mIB (cubed)- didn't they learn from ALIEN cubed?
by zom-bot.com
i mean, graphically, you have a 'B' that looks like a big 3 already...surprised they didn't go with that- it's so very hollywood at the moment to smash a number in the title...adding a little '3' is so...nineties..lol
-
They pretty much show you half the film! looks good though.
-
Dec. 12, 2011, 7:04 a.m. CST
so Rip Torn is 'dead' because of something in the past..
by zom-bot.com
will J fix what happened? because i seriously doubt they are going to brig Rip back- he's on the shitlist right now after losing his mind repeatedly.
-
Looks pretty much like a trailer to me. But anyway, wasnt the geekdom supposed to hate this movie because the first poster sucked or whatever? You guys are a weird bunch. I bet if Nordling had said it looks bad, you´ll all be saying the same thing!
-
i think the face looked like an ambiguous witness sketch of K
-
OK re-watched it again. And again... You may be right on both points ehhehe
-
That trailer alone almost owns MIB2. Reshoots & extended production shutdowns due to a weak script may mean we get a much better movie. Spielberg no doubt insisted on it as no-one else in Hollywood has enough star power to tell Sony its for the best. I would lowball itin the $500-600M range if its any good then $800m plus.
-
Not kidding. I was 10 when I saw the second one (saw it first) and have wanted a pug ever since.
-
I would say in the upper range, yeah. It's been a few years since his last big one, but let's not forget that Will Smith really can annihilate the box office when he's not pushing his kids on us or trying to get an Oscar.
-
Enjoyed the trailer...but was wondering...does anyone work on this site on the weekends? Man...talk about BORING. There's nothing to read here most of the time anymore.
-
He's easily the "better half" of the duo. Part of the reason the second one sucked so much was that it spent so much time getting him back. And Rip Torn is going to at least make an appearance, isn't he? Surely they can re-animate him for a cameo at least.

Is better than no Will Smith at all - WELCOME BACK :)
-
I like that the over the top goofiness from 2 is not present. It actually is taking itself a little more serious, but not stiff. There has to be a balance of some sort. So, curious where they take it.

is metal orange furniture. I don't know how people could stand to be inside during the 60s and 70s. Interior design was just so goddamn horrid.
-
The first one is a classic , but I had pretty much written the series off after MIB2. What a piece of shit. This however looks like they're back on the right track.
-

I'm still disappointed in MIB2 but I'm into this next sequel
by Autodidact
MIB2 seemed to just turn the dial to 11 on every aspect of the first movie, which really didn't work.
-
Anyone else notice the lighting is really good in these movies?
-
That's a full blown trailer.
-
I am sold.
-
time-travel? rewritten history/parallel universe? secret of the universe?. a very dangerous convict? two versions of TLJ? i dont know. i hope the story is balanced, makes sense and ofc it is funny enough.
-
It could be cleverly edited to hide a trainwreck of a story, but by itself the trailer makes the film look good
-
If you like movies at all, go see Hugo. I think it's a crime that it's doing so poorly at the box office. It will probably disappear almost fully this Friday.

Every train looks great right before it wrecks. I do hope that's not the case here. Loved the first one. Indeed, it was my first ever movie date with my future, and now, wife of 14 years.
-
the time jump part...the beginning of that trailer totally captured the MiB vibe and looked fantastic...then they started up with the whole traveling back in time thing and the trailer crashed and burned was that Josh Brolin's voice doing a Tommy Lee Jones impression or Josh Brolin with a Tommy Lee Jones voiceover?
-
....Brolin aside (who, bless his heart, seems game) this franchise has run it's course. Time to fade to black for good.
-
Fuck that then.
-
You know, the Hugh Jackman/Meg Ryan flick.
-
An old man, and still one cool sumbitch...
-
nobody expects a godfather 2, right?
-
And oh my god it does not stink of Laura Flynn Boyle. That last one had a huge boyle on its ass.
-
The second MIB was destroyed by the weak-and-unfunny-as-shit villains and the stupidity of the "crisis". If they don't get the tone of the threat right, then everything else falls apart. I'm not crazy about the time-travel aspect. I woulda preferred a bigger focus on outer space. This franchise hints at ginormously powerful galactic empires ... that we never see. Time travel is no substitute for epic space opera.
-
Hes paid his dues..
-
Damn. Why you put them rats in my locker?
-
...though the lack of TLJ deadpan comedy genius was the main reason I thought it was gonna suck, looks like Brolin is going to hijack this film wholesale.
-
Say what you want about Big Willie, but he does his best to give you your ticket admission's worth in the flicks he does. Brolin's channeling of Jones is spot-on, and if it's consistent, I would honestly think he deserves some type of award for it.

Rip Torn died in his prison cell at age 87 back in 2004, didn't he?
by Ricardo
-
That dude is funny as shit.
-
Why? The second movie was horrible, and kids don´t know what´s MIB.
-
First of all that is not Tommy Lee Jones overdubbing Brolin. Do you think they would use Tommy Lee Jones voice for the whole movie? That is clearly Brolin delivering a so so TLJ impression. Secondly, why is this this getting everyone so wet? This is going to suck about as much ass as the third installment of Meet the Fockers.
-
MIB was a cool action/comedy. A classic. MIB II had problems. They had to reshoot the end of the movie because the setting was on top of the World Trade Center towers. After 9/11 that had become problematic. Spiderman had a similar problem that year. They had a bank robbery scene that they had to delete from the movie. It was featured in the films teaser during the summer of 2001. The bad guys make their escape in a waiting helicopter. On their way out of NYC they get caught in a giant web stretched between the WTC towers. Like a fly. Nice visual, but it had to go. I've always given MIB II a pass because of that. At the time that they should have been editing and tweaking the movie, they were rewriting and reshooting the damn finale and the SFX! I hear the editing was then rushed to meet the release date. Comedies require timing. Rushing the post is never a good idea. Sometimes it works, but usually something gets lost. With MIB II we'll never know what the movie they intended to make would have been like. At best, maybe we a Direcor's Cut of the movie they ended up making. I guess what I'm trying to say is 9/11 destroyed thousands of lives. It changed important things and it also changed smaller things. MIB II was one of the small things. I am glad MIB3 looks good. And I'm also glad that fucker Osama bin Laden is sleeping with the fishes. Fuck him.
-
seeing as how everyone was shitting on the poster and even the idea of a third one just last week.
-
How is everybody surprised that Rip Torn isn't in this? He plead guilty to breaking and entering, possessing a firearm while drunk and criminal mischief about a year ago.
-
Even with one line (and glower), Josh Brolin's Tommy Lee Jones impersonation seems spot-on. Like most, I found MIBII a disappointment (any episode of the surprisingly good animated series was better), and I find it odd to be making a third film a solid decade after the last one (it's not like the MIB franchise is as iconic as Indiana Jones or Star Wars), yet this trailer at least got me interested.
-
Will goes back in time to meet up with TLJ's character. He goes back 40 years and the character is played by a 40-something. Does that mean that TLJ's character is 80-something?
-
Young Brian Cox?
-
Sounds like he just took his accent from "W" and toughened it up.
-
What are the "reshoots" everyone is talking about? There have only been about a week of reshoots - hardly a "ton" as mentioned above and a lot less than most other films of this nature - Spider-Man is into it's 3rd or 4th week of reshoots! Looks much better than part 2. That is Brolin's voice, not TLJ.
-
Black don't crack
-
But I liked what I saw with that 2 MINUTE "Teaser." Brolin will be gold as usual. BRING IT!
-
can pull of the angry, will ad a youthful insanity to the character. well, that would have worked, but who knows who they used or if there is a young Zed at all.

MiB2 was ruined in part by Johnny Knoxville and his CGI'd mini head. Thank God his days as an "actor" are over and done with. And I think Smith is a good actor when given good material, but here he looks like he's mugging and basically making faces big time.
-

MIB3 exists because Bill Murray hasn't signed a deal or read the GB3 script. MIB is going to turn into Austin Powers really fast in this one.

Yeah....looks OK. I sure hope it's a good story, the franchise DESERVES a good one.
by Damned if I can login
Of course, the best moments from #2 was what we saw in the trailer. Although Peter Graves and all the retro hairstyles ( afro, shag, etc) were kinda fun. But that was over within a couple minutes. Also, David Cross' role was too goofy in #2. I loved his ultra-sarcastic role from the 1st. To bad he got folded in half. Reckon we'll have to wait and see. But I'm in, if not for the theater then certainly the Blu.

I thought Jermaine Clement from Flight of the Conchords is the bad guy in this. On that basis alone I'm seeing this movie. I'm hoping they're saving Jermaine for the full trailer reveal of his own. I'm pretty sure that's his voice, with American accent, on the phone to Tommy Lee Jones saying "what other secrets are there?".
-
Two completely different discussions. Are you retarded? It's okay if you are, I'm just asking.

Good stuff. The screenwriters could learn something by watching.

I look forward to the wacky scenes of Will Smith dealing with 1960's segregation, "Woah, I gotta go sit on the BACK of the bus!? AWWWW HELL NAAAAAWWWWW!!!"
-
They might have filmed his scenes before he went in to jail or maybe got a special extended one-day pass to go to set. Who knows. If he's not in it, I'll wait for Netflix/iTunes to see it.
-
another cash grab and you will all for it like transformers 2 and 3 and many many others..sigh..
-
It was really bad planning to effectively "kill off" Tommy Lee Jones in the original. They had to know that they had a franchise on their hands and TLJ was obviously the best aspect of the film, despite Will Smith's shucking and jiving. But since they did write him out, going as far as changing the uniforms and the car and adding Ms hotass Fiorentino, they should have stuck with that instead of writing all that off and spending half of the next movie bringing TLJ back. BUT, having said that, this looks decent. Why it took a decade to make it happen I don't know. Like I said, TLJ is the best part of the franchise and I hope he has more than a cameo.
-
You know it's coming.
-
obviously Brolin is a better choice, but just sayin'.

Remember Sean Connery in 'The Rock'? That's Rip Torn RIGHT NOW...
by Darth Macchio
Seriously. They could make a whole movie in the vein of JCVD about getting Rip Torn out of jail to make MIB3. Have Rip with really long hair and a nasty Santa Hog beard wearing some crazy ass beat up Elvis glasses being interviewed by "specialists". They've tried and tried but just cannot understand Mr. Torn. Is it Rip Torn or is it the head of MIB? Who knows!?!?! Nobody knows! Anyway, so they go on and on about how he's this genius/prodigy dude (he is) and how he brings credibility to anything he's in (he does - have you seen Freddy Got Fingered?). And Smith and Brolin beg the Man to let him out long enough to film MIB3 and save the studio from a greedy land-developer named York Oxford Snobman III who also wants to stop MIB3 from being made (he's related to the guy who played the Ballchinian from the 2nd one). They try for hours and hours... And when the Man says "no way!" to Torn getting out for the filming, Smith and Brolin have to hire a crack squad of ex-military warrior "badass" types (Channing Tatum, Jaden Smith, Jada-Pinket Smith, Willow Smith, and John Cena) to help them break Rip Torn out of jail. Except hilarity ensues when they discover a jail Psychology Doc slipped Torn some LSD as a practical joke (Torn put real human poop in the Doc's soup thermos in an earlier episode, etc) and comedy antics get racked up when, for no reason at all, Zack Galifinakis shows up claiming Rip Torn owes him $50 bucks from the Margarito fight. Then, 1 hour and forty-five minutes later, they finally get to the set of MIB3 and viola - the movie ends. And the best part? No need to see MIB3! FACT!
-
...I don't want to see them spoil the movie by releasing a longer trailer with a lot more stuff in it.
-
I'm on the internet. *forehead slap* This looks good to me--definitely better than the last go 'round. And I agree Brolin will end up stealing the show. I never took the first MIB to be anything more than a good live-action cartoon (and I love the first movie to death). This looks like it has the same vibe. Can't comment on MIB2, I saw it once in the theatre, hated it, and never re-watched. As to the person or people trying to say that the lack of a strong villian in the trailer is indicating something bad--nah, I don't think so. I think that's partly what makes this a "teaser" and also they're trying to get as much "look Will Smith is back!" time on the screen as possible to spark interest. Plot, villains, etc. etc. will certainly be more prominent in the next cut of the trailer.
-
I found MIB 2 ridiculously short. MIB 1 was 10 minutes longer and felt about right.
-
I've honestly never seen a Barry Sonnenfeld movie that I've liked. Ever. I don't see this one changing the trend, either.

With a pretty good overall premise of the Men In Black you'd think a peron with some imagination be brought on board for this one. This is one of franchises where you can really go all out with imagination being the limitation and yet none of them did anything for me.. Wasted potential. This looks to be more of the same but it'll make cash so no point complaing

by glenn_the_frog
65 episodes, and almost all of them were solid. Funny, action packed, interesting use of aliens, character development... each of them better in 22 minutes that either of the movies were in an hour and a half. Alpha shoulda been the villain in the second movie instead of the plant chick. Heck, they could just take the first 3 Alpha episodes, add a little more meat to them to make them a more cohesive whole, and make a movie out of that. It'd work.

by Dan
Seriously...have you ever seen so many positive comments on AICN? I'm guessing one intern at the studio was put in charge of creating a bunch of accounts so he could leave excited comments in this talkback. But to add a little authenticity, he was given the ok to shit on MIB2. There's no way 2 seconds of a Tommy Lee Jones impression would have people saying stuff like "My son and I will be there!"
-
I'm totally going to rent it.

toward an actor. Fascinating, really. I mean, all people have to do is not go to Will Smith's movies. Instead, they vomit out venom as if he'd run over their dog or fucked their girlfriend. Rational people on this site see this, and reasonably wonder: why so much negative emotion toward this particular actor? Frankly, whenever I see anger, I ask: "what is this person afraid of?" What in the world would these people have to be afraid of about Will Smith. And his family. Scientologists? He gives three times as much money to Christian causes, so that feels a little...thin. Arrogance? More than Stallone or Schwarzenegger? We kidding? There's just SOMETHING about him that triggers a powerful anger response. Fear response. I wonder what it might be. And Jaden even more so. Fascinating, really. And very, very sad.
-
Tommy Lee Jones agreed to be in the film but only with a minimal role (same as Bill Murray in GB3.) So I'd assume that decision shaped the story, rather than that they decided, "Let's do MIB3 but make sure that Tommy Lee Jones has minimal screen time. As for me, I'm imagining what that time jump fall is going to look like in 3D. It's gonna be like a ride at Universal (not to be confused with MIB which actually IS a ride at Universal.) PAD

I want this to be good, but at the moment I'm leaning more towards Aw Hell Nah than Ah Hell Yah.

I am guessing that the time travel thing happens in the first 20 minutes, 30 tops.

sorry, but this shows the state of this site nowadays. I would really laugh my ass off, if it weren't so sad. I mean, this site and the guys in these talkbacks used to stand for geeks who know their stuff... and now they hate on Nolan awesomeness and like the shitty MIB3quel nobody ever asked for? Really... can't make up my mind... crying or laughing? crying... or laughing...

Tony Shaloub knocked that character out of the park in both movies

But am incredibly pumped for that movie. This trailer for MiB 3 looked really good, a hell of a lot better than I was expecting. Brolin is a dead ringer for TLJ in that short bit. Looks promising to me.

Looks like Will Smith wont be breaking his bad movie streak any time soon.

I almost forget what it's like to simply go and have a breezy good time at the movies, without the nagging feeling that what you're watching is horribly contrived, over-marketed, calculated marketing drivel. Not to suggest that this is high art, but MIB may be one of the few extant franchises with a lingering connection to a somewhat more innocent time.

...most of what we've seen so far looks fairly ridiculous. BB bored me to tears, TDK was great for a while but blew it in the last act (and is fairly hollow in retrospect). No reason to think this will leave the atmosphere when the first two didn't. Nolan's a good, stylish filmmaker, but he hasn't shown any sign of transcendence in the first two films. TDKR needs to get down to some serious rule-breaking fast if it wants to lift the franchise off the ground. In spite of all I've said, I hope they pull it off. The talent is there, and it'd be great to see a home run here. I'd love to see an amazing Batman film. There hasn't been one yet.

re: "Frankly, whenever I see anger, I ask: "what is this person afraid of?""
by buggerbugger
If you hate Will Smith, it's because you're afraid of him, deep, deep down? Bollocks. I just hate the sight of the fucker's stupid ears and the sound of his stupid fucking songs.

"Hate" isn't anger, dude. But when the two are coupled, that is worthy of note. The greater the intensity of the emotion, the more likely your mind is attempting to protect you. Emotions don't exist in a vacuum, and we don't waste intense ones on things that make no difference. The question of why someone would focus large amounts of negative attention is perfectly reasonable to ask. Possibilities: 1) "I hate him. He has no talent. The deck is stacked against people like me, dammit!" 2) "I hate him. People are stupid! The world is a shitfest, and we're all screwed because so many assholes like this asshole!" ## There are other variations. Both are expressive of fear. I hate mosquitos, but I don't waste emotion on them unless I'm in a malaria zone. THEN I get pissed, and vehemently so. So...having zero respect for Smith is one thing. Feeling powerful emotions about it is a red flag.
