Katy Perry Hosts The Almost-Last
2011 SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE!!
Look! Katy Perry looks dang cute as a blonde and does a decent Russell Brand!
My favorite bit from last week:
Talkback poll question: Did SNL stop being funny before or after this:
Jimmy Fallon hosts the final episode of the year next week, as prophesized 13 years earlier on a Christmas episode hosted by Alec Baldwin.

Musical guest Robyn. Who has the face of a 50 year old for some reason and no one says anything.

If I do watch this, I'll be prepared to be impressed by her comedic chops
by tylerzero

Some genuine laugh-out-loud moments and a couple of all-time classic skits (pedophile coach and the Batman short). The keys were Buscemi being a terrific straight-man and his willingness to poke fun at his own image. More hosts should try this approach instead of attempting to be the funniest person in each skit.
-
has no respect for batman and should be executed.

do "musicians" often host but not be the musical act of an episode?
by TheSeeker7
sorry, I just couldn't refer to Katy Perry as a musician without putting it in quotes.
-
has no brain cells and should be executed
-
A quick Wikipedia review shows that in the 2003 season alone, Snoop Dogg and Christina Aguilera both hosted but weren't the musical guest. I gotta believe that Timberlake has been on the show so damn often that he couldn't have been the musical guest all the time, could he? And, man, that Alec Baldwin/Jimmy Fallon sketch? So, when Fallon hosts next week, that'll be a 13-year old callback to that joke??? That has to be some sort of comedy record and I was impressed with the 'Beetlejuice' references they scattered across only 3 seasons of Community...

Let's be honest, Katy Perry is not what you'd call a "hot chick."
by I_Love_LanaLang
She wears a ton of makeup, but she's very average looking. It wouldn't surprise me if you Miltons think she's gorgeous. Desperation can warp a person's judgement. However, she seems to have a bubbly personality, so I guess that counts for something.
-
Dec. 10, 2011, 11:05 a.m. CST
I definitely have hotter chicks in my neighborhood...
by BurnHollywood
...Then again, I make shit up like crazy whenever my hands get anywhere near a computer with an internet connection.
-
Bubbly personality, pretty eyes, and a great rack. Those all account for a lot.

The Batman sketch was funnier the first time they did it.
by MST3KPIMP
They did the whole Batman thing in one of the Miley Cyrus sketchs and it was funnier as they didnt drag it out.
-
I've seen her on a couple of shows and it was'nt bad.
-
You're not. We just laugh politely whilst we stare at your rack. Cringe-worthy episode forthcoming.
-
Dec. 10, 2011, 12:43 p.m. CST
Ya, she thinks shes funny because she had cupcakes on her boobs...
by MST3KPIMP
I guess Russel's been filling her head with delusions of grandeur. She thinks shes going to be the female Timberlake cuz she she acted goofy in a video. But this seems so weak that it could end up being interesting. I do remember Britney Spears being better than expected though.
-
John Larroquette is not dead

Dec. 10, 2011, 12:57 p.m. CST
I'm pretty sure Justin Timberlake hosted and he wasn't the musical guest.
by TheUltimateMathTeacher
There are probably others, but not many.
-
Or has he always double dutied?
-
But nothing mind blowing, her music is utter shite and her appearance on HIMYM was beyond bad (far worse than the also terrible appearances by Carrie Underwood, Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez).
-

Best description of Katy Perry's looks I've ever heard
by OutsideChance
was the guy at Cracked.com who described her as "Zooey Deschanel's face photoshopped on a porn star's body."
-
Seriously, they had one good gag: The Ambiguously Gay Duo. Everything else was met with some of the biggest silence show business has ever seen. Compare that to today's digital shorts, which often go viral on the Internet and are actually funny and meet with positive reviews. No contest there.
-
And yet you watched it for that entire decade? I call bullshit. Either you don't watch it and therefore have no idea if it's funny or not, or you do watch it and find -something- amusing since you've kept at it for an unfunny decade. Either way you are probably that A-hole that was saying the same exact thing a decade ago.
-
I think it will. A host who's never done comedy before and a pop singer who had a minor hit in 1997-congratulations, Lorne on your brilliant casting decisions! Also, anybody who thinks Katy Perry is anywhere near as good looking as Zooey should look at this: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1342889/Russell-Brand-posts-picture-barefaced-Katy-Perry-Twitter.html
-
I'll get off your yard now.
-
none of the debate sketches has been the least bit funny but they keep going to that well.
-
Same political opening monologues, same hosts, same skits....is SNL stuck in a loop?
-
I thought for sure you would have posted the Bronx Beat skit from the last time Katy Perry was on SNL. I can't be more specific as to who was the host or anything else as all I remember is the Elmo shirt.

Pretty bad so far...needs more scantily clad Katy Perry!

That was a really good impression but I don't think I've ever seen her do her before.
-
At least they put her in a short skirt this time
-
That was a surprise. I knew Matt Damon was showing up. Who else was in there - that Lincoln looked familiar.
-
But the rest of the Doggie Duty singers were mediocre.

Yeah, they're really piling on the impersonations tonight
by OutsideChance
Oh well, at least that gives us more Hader
-
Yeah.
-
That Robyn was bad. Not just that, I dare say she was lip-synching. And why do you need a 2 drummer/synth-tech guy for your backup band. Honestly, why do they keep bringing in these no-name acts? And can someone tell me if the audience is asked to really amp up the applause for the music acts? I can't believe a good portion of the crowd has even heard of some of these acts, yet you hear them screaming louder than they do for the host. And I like Katy Perry, the blonde look actually looks good on her.

Missing person alert......

I doubt very many watch SNL just for the musical guests. I've been watching for most of the show's run and I can't recall a time I ever tuned in just to see the musical guest even if I really was into them. I would venture a guess SNL's largest demographic is 30 and over, and I don't know how many that age or above knows who Robyn is (unless they hear their kids playing her), so I don't think that makes anyone too old to tune in to the show.
-
She also popped up as Drew Barrymore in the Apocalypse impersonation bit.

I wonder what the record is for the least amount of involvement in the show is for a host because it seemed to me like Perry didn't have much to do.
-
I think it's more about how much you pay attention to the music industry. Maybe it's also about where you live. Is Robyn that big in North America?
-
In that Apocalypse sketch.

Robyn murdered the boner that Abby's Kate Middleton left me with...
by BurnHollywood
That chick looks like a dude, dances worse than a Japanese schoolgirl on Ecstasy, and has the stupidest fucking outfit in music today, Gaga included (was that a carpenter's vest paired with Herman Munster's loafers?), then dares to write a song about how some guy didn't pick her up at a bar. Today's musical acts are so flash-in-the-pan they make the Bay City Rollers look like Bruce Springsteen...
-
<p>I love Stefon, but I feel like he either needs to disappear for a bit, or evolve somehow...borderline stale. A new shirt perhaps.</p> <p>Who should host soon? Who do you predict will host next year?</p> <p> Patton Oswalt, Jorge Garcia, Viggo Mortensen/ Michael Fassbender, Abe Vigoda, Ron Perlman, Tom Cruise, Cloris Leachman, Ace Frehley/Gene Simmons, Chelsea Handler, Christian Bale/Tom Hardy/Gary Oldman, Robert Downey Jr., An all animated host episode...?</p> <p>I enjoyed the love elevator sketch.</p>

I was correct. Katy Perry isn't much to look at. SNL is awful.
by I_Love_LanaLang
My previous comment about her being very average looking was definitely too kind. She's simply not a physically attractive woman. Her face is quite homely - a triple bagger one might say. However, I give her props for gamely making an effort to turn the tripe that serves as 'comedic writing' on SNL into something mildly palatable. SNL is an incredibly unfunny show. There's more humor in 8 year olds putting on a skit in their backyard. I don't think anyone would notice if SNL disappeared from the airwaves.
-
And while it wasn't as unny as it could've been, I really liked the last sketch. We need more of Jason singing. Also, a got a real bad feeling they're gonna give that stupid J-pop thing a movie....the sooner the better though, because once it bombs they can quit doing the sketches.
-
Guy is a total nutjob, but there's a lot of talent in that bloated body. Loved him in "The Spartan" from years back.
-
She's probably over-hyped and over make-upped to look hotter, but she's not UGLY. But, it's okay, your condescending cynical attitude does make you very cool. You're obviously much smarter than all of us fools. Keep watching the shows you hate.
-
Not gorgeous, but pretty in a girl-next-door way. And I thought she did fine on SNL....better than most hosts, actually.
-

For me the thing that really made the talk show host (Kalle?) work
by jim
was Wiig's deadpan delivery. The first time she said "we have an excellent research staff" struck me very funny, but for me the best line delivery was near the end: Katy Perry - "I'm going to leave now" Wiig - "They always do".
-
I too think she's cute, although I prefer her as a brunette. The new 'do makes her look like Jenny McCarthy.
-
She had a backing track for the harmonies. I give her credit. Not very often that someone with a top 40 hit 15 years ago gets a second chance. Not my kind of music but I thought she performed well.
-

And yeah, Kristen Wiig looked unbelievably hot as Flirt Girl.
by Wolfman Nards
Potato sack hot.

She's 32 and looks in her 50's. What's with the wrinkled face?
-
And thinks that makes him cool LMFAO. What are you, 13? Yes Katy Perry is a dog looooool.
-
Are the funniest Kenan has been in years.

We only got like 3 seconds of Katy Perry in that Christina Aguilera outfit. Ridiculous!

But a freeze-frame is forever.

That needs to be a reoccurring skit. I liked the return of the weeaboo skit, but it wasn't as funny as the first one.

Be honest. I think deep down you realize that she is not very attractive, but you're still influenced by the marketing hype that surrounds her, and you're unwilling to call a spade a spade. Katy Perry is the type of woman who most men wouldn't give a second glance if they happened upon her in just about any setting. I'm not trying to be cruel. I'm trying to be honest. The people on this site should try being more honest.
-

Extr3m1st, I'm sorry that you have such low standards concerning women.
by I_Love_LanaLang
I can't imagine the desperation you suffer from that compels you to believe plain and unattractive women are somehow supermodels. Are we all supposed to rabidly approve of everything in pop culture that happens to be 'popular' at a given moment? Some people are not interested in being lemmings. Also, I can tell you that I am not 13 years old. You can tell because my moniker doesn't have the 1337 spelling of a moniker like 'extr3m1st'.
-
Robyn openned for Katy Perry when she was on tour this year. That is how Robyn got on the same show as her. I think that pretty cool of Katy. Also, Robyn was not lip syncing - that was just the backup tracks. I thought she was great, but I didn't like her silly outfits. Robyn should have worn what she was wearing during the end credits, as it was a much better outfit (the two she wore on stage were really bad).
-
Christers are clueless!
-
...but her power is in her tits and outside of one quick Aguilera impression she didn't set them free at all the other night. First SNL I've watched in like 2 years for tits and instead I had the usual low brow "humor" to squirm through and no breasts.
-

Every know and again something funny turns up on SNL, but about 90% of the time it's REALLY awful.
by NeonFrisbee
The only thing that even approached funny was that anime-otaku show gag and the only really funny thing about that was when the professor guy says something to the effect of "If there's a loving form of racism, I think you've found it." Aside from that genuinely funny line (a line which also applies to suburban white kids pretending to be "black" 'cause they like hip hop), the rest of the show was, as expected, contemptibly lame. Also, the derth of boob-centric comedy and scenes was a serious misstep given that they are Katy Perry's greatest asset.
-
Obviously at the end of the day, to each their own and god bless ya what your personal tastes are, but having said that, I'm sorry but I can't help but feeling it's simply become very en vogue to rip on Katy Perry as being unattractive (particularly anywhere online that resembles a message board in even the smallest way). I think this is because on one hand she's gotten a ton of global ink the last couple years for indeed being super hot/cute and there's a certain percentage of the fanboy crowd who will go against you for the simple fact of NOBODY they feel deserves that much positive attention (regardless of the fact whether it may be at all warranted or not). And also from the fact that her "look" has become so much of what she as an entertainer has been all about, that any special live public event she's invariably wearing this fairly elaborate dress in one way or another (& then likely never wearing it again a second time), and so it then becomes a rather natural 'other side of the coin' thing to do to stand up and shout "ehhhh no, I don't think so! she ain't as hot as you all think she is, no way!"<br> <br> And both those reasons, frankly, I find to be in of themselves fairly lame and pathetic. I mean the people saying she's ugly, that's just ridiculous and kind of shows you aren't playing a fair game, as it were. Like there are plenty of women, that where a ton of the public think they're really hot, and they do nothing for me for one reason or another. That where I may understand someone else thinking the girl's attractive, I don't at all regard the girl as UNattractive, but I also don't find her all that sexy and attractive TO ME. like Jessica Simpson is a personal example (& I'm even talking about back a few years before people starting ragging on HER, too, when she was much more universally accepted as "hot). She couldn't do less for me as far as sex appeal, but I'm not going out of my way to say she's ugly. That just shows a basic misunderstanding or disregard of human physiology, and it's ridiculous.<br> <br> Long story short (too late!) while I may not really be into her on a artistic, creatively level at all (although I did reasonably enjoy the "I Kissed a Girl" song) I do think she's incredibly adorable, with obviously an incredible all natural rack, nice curvy body and cute face to boot, and I'm perfectly happy to say so.
-
Did I spend more than just a simple, throwaway two minutes in "breaking down" the debate of whether or not Katy Perry is hot as if I was writing up my friggin college thesis or something? lol oye vay
