New Teaser Poster For THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Casts A Long, Arachnid Shadow!
Beaks here...
Courtesy of SuperHeroHype, here's your first look at the new teaser poster for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN. It's dark, shadowy, and boasts that Marc Webb's reboot will tell "The Untold Story". I dig the design - even though it doesn't convey the playful nature of Andrew Garfield's take on our friendly neighborhood webslinger (which was certainly the highlight of the Comic Con presentation). But there'll be plenty of time to sell Garfield. For now, be teased!

that was told exactly the same way before.

I am not teased. At all. Sorry.

But the tag line sucks royally!

what was wrong with Raimi's??

If this movie was actually like that Untold Tales of Spider-Man comic
by SilentP
like, if they just went back to him in high school, but without rehashing the origin stuff.... that would be cool. I could get behind that. The fact that it's another origin story is what sucks all the excitement out of it for me. I really just do not care.
-
but well executed I have to say.
-
They go with the one that is both completely untrue and will make everyone, from nerds to people who just like movies groan. That's just stupid. Untold story. Who is that stupid?

Raimi's was fine. Dang, can't they wait at least a decade before they try and remake something. That is how bad it has gotten in Hollyweird. Sheesh. Money grubbing bastards.

Between the 5 or so animated Spider-Man shows, 1970's live-action series, live-action movie and countless comic versions, the Peter Parker origin story has become almost annoying at this point. This is definately a way to save money by not having to use special f/x for the first half of the film. Guaranteed.

-
Totally! heheh J/K, but seriously, the 'untold' story? Uuhhhhh, I'm pretty sure what is in this movie has been told(from what we've seen already)...
-
Stick it to Sony goood
-
Thanks for the crazy pointless dance music
-
You all don't know the whole legal thing? If they don't slap together a Spider-Man movie every so often then the rights go back from Sony to Marvel and Spidey would be able to play with the other Marvel characters like Iron Man and the Avengers. So Pete gets bitten by a Spider every 10 years and you saps will eat it up.
-
Cheapo Sony dick skins
-
are they changing the origin of Peter Parker's transformation?...if not the poster is lying...they're just trying to copy the Dark Knight's 'dark' take on the character
-
Yeah, sex is a reflection.
-
I suggest everyone at least skip the first weekend to hurt the initial opening numbers. Wait a week, no big deal. Tell your friends, facebook and tweet it etc. That way Sony may just drop the franchise and Marvel can use Spidey for stuff.

Too late

I have a problem with that more than the tagline for some reason. It would be sweet if it was a completely new take of on SM. It would piss everyone off I'm sure but at least the tag line wouldn't be a godawful lie in the face of fans.

The Tobey Maguire one sure did. The ONLY good think about this reboot is that Snaggletooth aka Dunst has been replaced with an actual pretty actress.

But, you guys are just so cool that nothing impresses you! Wish I could be a cool, cynical fuck too!

-
like she should have 10 years ago.
-
than you must be 10 years old.
-
Ahhhhh! That makes sense now. I couldn't figure that one out. Sony's latest approach reeked of desperation, and I couldn't, for the life of me, understand why they were handling Spidey the way they are. But your answer makes sense: Rights reversion. I understand that's why there's a crappy Hellraiser direct-to-DVD movie every couple of years or so. The Weinstien Co. is obligated to make a movie, or they loose the rights to the franchise, and figure there might be some potential with it if they figure out what to do with it. Soooo sad that, it appears, the same thing is happening to Spiderman. Hopefully, the contract requires a cinema film to be released, and eventually Sony will have to quit making them due to decreasing returns, and the rights will go back to Marvel. Who, thus far, have proven capable at handling their own product in the movies.
-
is because otherwise, if Sony hadnt come up with a new spiderman movie now, they would have lost the rights to the franchise. And they want their cash-cow in the Sony barn.
-
They actually do come up with something new. I like the poster, but I'm convinced the villain is going to be lame.
-
Which means I've been posting on AICN since I was -1. But you're just too cool to like anything. I get it. God, I wish I was as cool as you. I might have to gain a few pounds and move back in with my parents, but it's a small price to pay for being cool.
-
I never thought I would see the day where I was totally meh about a new Spider-Man movie. Origin again? He's been around since the goddamn 60's for shits sake. Set the story in a world where he's well established, where he is SPIDER-MAN. You could handle his origin in a 30 second flashback.
-
Reminds me of the Hangover. I said I didn't think the first movie was all that, and some TB asshole tried to stick his dick in my ass over it. I'm SO sorry I don't like cartoony gumby effects and mongoloid Tobey Maguire and prematurely aged Kristen Dunst... really I am. Goddamn this is some good rum.

THE UNTOLD STORY...unless you caught the same story ten years ago.
by Joe Jones
You know, the one about the geek in high school that gets bitten by a radioactive spider? LOL. What I wonder is what the hell these comic movies producers are going to do when they run out of decent comic stories from the 80s to adapt? More remakes hopefully! There hasn't been a "groundbreaking" comic run since the Bendis effect (boring, decompressed stories, sitcom humor, page after page of talking heads, writing for trade because instead he's a "real writer" who is into Mamet and Sorkin and reading plays, etc) took over comics as a medium and sales have steadily plummetted.
-
you just need to wait until you actually have good taste in movies.
-
Go watch that piece of shit Spider-man 3 again.
-
No? Then it is untold, shut the fuck up.
-
And I expect this to be better than at least one Raimi film, and maybe all of them
-
Something like this would be better realized on the cover of a comic book undoubtedly but dealing within reality (as far as a film is concerned) it just looks like absolute crap.
-
AGAIN. and i think the poster sucks cuz ive never seen a building like that in nyc. ot anywhere else.
-
Don't feel the need to see it again ten years later.

I'm pretty sure the poster is SUPPOSED to play with perspective
by Sardonic
That said, I agree that it's a good idea in theory that doesn't really work once it's realized.
-
Sony loses the rights to Spidey if they don't make a movie every x number of years as per their contract. That's the one and only reason for this movie, which I hope tanks so that the rights revert back to Marvel.
-
Like the idea, though.

The Untold Story surely is a reference to the parents
by BlackBauer0320
Yes, this is an origin story. Doesn't mean it can't be a lot different. Does everyone complain about the part in Batman Begins where he becomes Batman again? And god forbid Christopher Nolan ever make a bad movie or else we won't have anyone to compare every new poster and trailer to. I, for one, am looking forward to this because it has some genuinely likable people in it, and I worry more about that when I decide on what movies to see than I do about sending a message to greedy movie studios. Guaranteed if this gets good reviews, MOST of you will see it.

I'm seeing a great deal of ill will toward the idea of a Spiderman reboot. I had my doubts. Then the trailer was released, and it seemed to have everything that the Raimi Spidey did not. Things like depth. Things like a sense of real identity. SALLY FREAKIN' FIELD! Raimi has been a mediocre director, at best. Spiderman 2 was the only one in the series that had stand-alone action sequences. I'm looking forward to real performances. The whole reason most of us invested any energy into comic book hero's were the dynamic story telling, and character development. Also, to think of this as a reboot is a folly. It's a movie all it's own. It is it's own story. So, spend your ten bucks, buy some popcorn, and enjoy the damn thing. All the energy it takes to follow it's production with zeal, and bitch incessantly about it would sure be a waste if you didn't go see it. Embrace your inner child again, you winer's. Get over it, and enjoy.

by Nerd Rage
While the haters are stuck at home watching Mary Jane get kidnaped for a third time in Spider-man 3.
-
But repeating the origin after a decade is too repetitive? Hypocrites.
-
I can understand those who feel there is no need to see Spider-Man's origin "again" - although even there, I have to say... "again" means for the second time, in terms of movies. It's not like there has been five Spider-Man origin movies. Those who are into comic books and superheroes may be painfully familiar with the whole thing... the radioactive spider, Uncle Ben, the non-organic web shooters, etc... but that doesn't mean the average generic movie-goer is. And I share some of the concerns that have been expressed here - with the Lizard design, with the "running shoe" boots, and so forth. But man oh MAN is this a negative bunch. I enjoyed the Raimi movies - especially the first two - but as a fan of the character and of superheroes in general, I hope this one is great, and I am going to suspend judgment until I see how it all comes together on the screen. Maybe it will work and maybe it won't - but I hardly think a couple of photos and a movie poster are enough for the bitter trashing the movie gets every time it is mentioned here. Just saying....WOW you guys are a negative, negative bunch.

I think Sony is going about advertising this movie all wrong. Nothing so far seems overly that exciting. We know that this is a reboot and recovers the origin story so why use the tag line "the untold story"? It has been told, and with a way better suit :-). I don't know, I know that other reboots have happened within a decade of the last movie in the series but this Spiderman, it just doesn't feel like the timing is right.
-
thank god he didnt have them.they are retarded.

-
the movie will not live up to it's tagline (the untold story), that i'm certain.
-
actually it's the hair. he loves to have huge boffins.
-
I think Sony wanted a film that could fit thematically into Marvel's MCU without them getting sued (especially since most of the film audience doesn't realize the Marvel movie rights are spread among different companies). And that's fine by me, because the MCU is where it's at, and I never did accept Maguire and Raimi's take on the character of Spidey. Maybe one day when Sony and Marvel play nice we'll get a retcon which puts TASM and THE AVENGERS in the same world.

First, it isn't an untold story, it is a story unfamiliar to people with only a general take on the character. Peter's parents were SHIELD operatives. They left him with Ben and May when they were called away and were subsequently killed when their plane blew up. peter only finds out about this when he is older. I agree with those who have thought that they will probably make the fluid and web shooters connected to the Parker's SHIELD background. The main reason they are doing this is to create a cohesive universe, where Peter probably gets a visit from Clark Gregg or Sam jackson by the films end. Marvel wants all thier heroes in one world, which is how it should be. I want to see Hugh Jackman, Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Andrew Garfield, Chris Hemsworth, Sam jackson and whoever the hell is playing Bruce Banner that week to bounce off one another. This is a smart move...now get on that reboot of Daredevil and leave the biker outfit out of it.

-
doesn't sound like Batman/Twilight or whatever other bullshit comparisons you haters make.
-
And I don't know why, it just feels pedestrian. I think because the shadow of the spider is huge, it's making it's point in this overblown, unnecessary way. These marketing people have to be able to come up with something better. Subtle is always better.
-
This is a guy who loves spider-man, who gets the character and is honored to play him. I know people who saw that footage of him in character and they all said the same thing - he understands that Peter cuts loose in the suit, he uses wit and humor as a distraction, both for him and his opponents (the guy doesn't want to dwell on the fact that he can easily die doing what he does). He isn't Batman, where Wayne is the mask and countless years of training have hardened him and given him focus and confidence, he is a geeky kid from queens who feels responsible for Ben's death and is constantly trying to make up for it while protecting those he loves by wearing the mask. My thought is that Andrew Garfield understands this, and will not give us the blank expressioned, gurgly voiced permanent contact high incarnation we got in those other films, where instead of wisecracks, we got "I dunno...but somebody has to stop it." - In all three f*&king movies!
-
I love this poster. To me spider-man 2 is the definition of a perfect spider-man movie but I still look forward to the new film. I got high hopes for Andrew Garfield's portrayal of Peter Parker
-
Abso-fragging-lutely. I've been sold on this movie since the second I saw the convention footage of Garfield nervously walking up to the mic wearing a homemade Spidey costume. I don't care if it was staged. This guy GETS Spider-man. And 500 Days of Summer had a very Peter-Parker-ish feel all the way through. Haters gonna hate. I remain enthusiastic.
-
"Power Ranger Goblin, corny New Yorkers, changing Uncle Bens killer, killing all the villians, using an ugly Mary Jane, omiting WISECRACKS, omiting the Death of Gwen Stacy arc, taking away Spider-man greatest scientific accomplishment/webshooters, using the kidnaped MJ climax THREE fucking movies in a row, Parker's goofy dancing with an emo cut, Vulturess including, random cookie girl bullshit, repetitive Mary Jane love rollercoaster, Green Goblin 2 paintball outfit, awkward puberty allegory, snaggletooth singing, Nickelback fan, sorry ass." Seriously, with all the stuff that happened in Raimi's Spider-Man do some think it shouldn't be rebooted?! Sam Raimi Spider-Man WASN'T Spider-Man. It had some aspect of Spidey but 97% of it was absolute BS plots, boring dialouges, OOC moments, and hack villians. The CGI was servicable but nowhere near as good as it could have been! I'm looking forward to this Spider-Man and IF ITS GOOD; that would be fantastic! But IF ITS BAD; then I'm bagging on it! Plain and simple!
-
The new Spider-Man movie is just a high-budget Corman Fantastic four movie. It's all about Sony preventing Marvel from regaining the film rights. And Raimi and McGuire are far too expensive (and smart) to be used as tools in what is essentially just a corporate dick maneuver.
-
You HAVE to start talking about the legal implications when discussing this film! You have totally ignored them with the X-MEN franchise, but, to do so with the SPIDER-MAN property is beyond negligent, its despicable. The reason why this movie is being made is so Sony does not lose the rights to Spider-Man. That's IT. Its the same reason why Donner is making the X-Men, Wolverine, and Deadpool properties the same way. YOU have a responsibility to state these facts when discussing these films. You can NOT just act like adorable geeks reporting some stuff from the studios! Stop thinking about your "careers" as set visitors and interviewers and do your DUTY. If you won't. Then I will.

If you check out the Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus Garfield is very good and very likable in that role, based on pics alone I'd think he looks like a goof but on screen he has a presence which is very suited for Peter Parker. I'm an old school Spidey fan (bought the Death of Gwen Stacy ish at the five and dime for 20 cents), but the stuff this flick has shown me so far has me intrigued. I can't believe there's any discontent about making any kind of flick, simply don't watch it if you're not interested. But think about it, there's multiple Spidey comic titles every month, different artists with divergent styles and writers with various takes, there's room for it all. Sam is the Man (except Spidey 3 of course) but let someone else have a crack, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy (and NOT MJ!)? I am THERE.

i'm neither enthusiastic nor skeptical for this new movie. i'm just... waiting for it to see how it turns out. this movie is a wait and see thing for me. i'm not going to piss on it for not being another Raimi Spidey movie, nor i'm going to hail it for the same reasons.
-
sometimes the Spider-man stories could be pretty grim. and don't forget this is a character whose one of his determinant characteristics was his perpectual bad luck and that the universe kept throwing shit at him from all directions without him getting much of a break. as such, darkness moody and even sadness would creep in quite often. Spider-man is not one of the most light-hearted super-heroes of Marvel's pantheon.

is it me or the marketing campaign and the movie's theme contradict each other?

From what i understand, SHIELD, Fury, Agent Coulson, etc. can't make appearances in TASM, as the rights to those characters are not owned by Sony. So unless some surprise deal between Sony and Marvel Studios has taken place, don't expect any crossovers between The Avengers movies and Spider-Man.

I'll tell you why: the first film is over a decade old now. The kids who make up the intended audience of this picture weren't born back then. Simple as that.
-
Only a child would look at this and think it was going to be "cool". The "Untold Story" at the bottom is one of the funniest things I've seen in a while. I think Sony has noticed the glaring mistake they've made in rebooting it. Mainly that everyone still fucking remembers the first Spider-man movie. Also regular joe nobody is going to be really fucking confused. Nerds may hate Raimi's Spider-man... Regular people DO NOT. Batman Begins is totally different by the way. If you think about only Burton's first Batman really even tried to look into Batman's past. This Spider-man reboot is doing everything we've already seen again! Also the Lizard looks like total shit. Human face... Fuck you Webb and Sony just fuck you. Also who gives a shit why Peter's parents were killed? It was a car accident. So what are they going to do have the Lizard killing them? Bull shit. Stupid fucking movie. I'm sneaking into it or not seeing it at all.

-
I think it's a law now that you have to have "Rises", "Rise of" or "Rising" in your title or face some kind of penalty. They apparently didn't want to pay this time, even if the title makes no sense.
-
If I understand this all, since the formation of the Marvel in house development, their aim is to get back the rights to all their characters eventually. Doing cross promotion between studios is good for everyone in the business, and goes a long way to creating good will among viewers. I'm hoping for an eventual complete universe, but for now I'm just hoping for this to be as good as I think it can be.

The Raimi Spider-man movies lose about 10 million viewers with each new movie

You don't really think all those people are nerds do you? Alot of people were dissatisfied with Raimi interpetation. Hopefully the reboot while losing some Raimi loyalist will gain some of those who abandoned the Raimi films.

They make no sense.

The Lizard, mechanical webshooter, Peter's parents, early Gwen Stacy, more background on Uncle Ben, new Spider-man score, a more grounded universe, wisecracks, Peter Parker with a personality. All new territory.

What about the last half of the new trailer? The director admitted to it being %100 CGI!

there are different ways to present spidey's origin. The examples he posted are untouched territory in the film world for spiderman. That said - I can certainly understand objections to this being yet another fucking origin story in and of itself. However, to say it's the same origin movie as Raimi's is unfair, especially @ this point.

-
The problem is the insistence on rebooting a franchise and, essentially, remaking a ten year old movie. And the "new" stuff isn't worth a remake/reimagination/reboot. Raimi had already set up the Lizard as a potential next villain and the backstory on Peter's parents was never part of the origin, but something that was revealed long after he became Spidey any way. This is a waste. If the producers wanted a new director and a new actor they didn't need a reboot either. Just hire a new director and recast, ala the first Batman series, the Hulk and, most successfully, James Bond.
-
Dec. 10, 2011, 7:41 p.m. CST
And, in fact, Sony was willing to recast Spidey as early as Spidey 2
by OutsideChance
When problems arose with Toby Maguire (depending on who you ask it was either a health problem or a contract negotiation) between the first and second movie, the producers were moving to replace him with Jake Gyllenhaal. So if they wanted a new Spidey this time around, why not just hire one?

-
This movie sucks. No need to even watch it. You know a pile of dogshit is going to smell nasty, why bend down and sniff it? You all get a gold star for you accuracy in pre-film release criticism.
-
It actually IS the untold story, from a certain perspective. It's the origin story, but it involves his parents and the conspiracy surrounding their deaths. It also paints Peter more as a science guy than the Raimi movies AND develops the Gwen Stacey character, who was only a passing fancy in the third Raimi film. I think the science and the Gwen Stacey are good touches. HOWEVER Mattman and Nerd Rage are wrong about most other aspects of the movie, at least if the script drafts are anything to go by. No, Peter does NOT act like Peter Parker. He acts like a whiny emo douchenozzle and teen wolf (basketball team. seriously.) He doesn't really quip all that much and when he does they are horrible clunkers. Maybe a comedy writer did a polish on those moments or Garfield has some talent for ad-libbing funny dialogue, but I doubt it. Uncle Ben's death barely makes an impact and Peter's not remotely responsible, making Uncle Ben not even all that crucial to the character's development. Be prepared for this to disappoint. It'll probably still make a gobajillion dollars because everyone loves Spidey, but you comic purists who are enjoying the minor touches? Yeah, get ready to hate. Bad writing is bad writing.
-
"a lot of people were dissatisfied with the Raimi movies". Um... really? Because I checked Box Office Mojo and although you're technically correct that the money went down with each iteration, I think it's a pretty big stretch to say that a "lot" of people were "dissatisfied". You want to back that up with anything but conjecture? I'll grant you, my response above is more opinion than fact, but at least my opinion is based in research.
-
I call Spiderman 2 a fantastic sequel and Spiderman 3 a mistake. But neither one was done to keep rights. The talkbackers who are discussing the rights issue are 100% correct. It's the exact same reason you're getting a new Ghost Rider movie. It's only due to Disney pushing back National Treasure 3 that Nic Cage is involved with this GR. Sony was fully prepared to recast Blaze to get production going quickly. Sony is desperate to keep comic book franchises from reverting back to the original owners. As are all the studios who currently retain Marvel rights. Do you think Lionsgate made Punisher: War Zone because they wanted to? Sorry nerd rage, that's just the facts.

If mrgray is right, though, I do have one big concern about the movie...
by kisskissbangbang
...mechanical webshooters & Gwen Stacy don't bother me, but "Peter's not remotely responsible" fot Uncle Ben's death? That guts the core of his entire origin; it's the whole reason behind the famous "With great power comes great responsibility" line. The whole "wisecracks vs. dark & broody" thing is a sideshow (he's a complex character who's both at different times), but Peter's guilt over Uncle Ben is pivotal to the character, the basis of his existence as Spider-Man. To mess this up is a far greater flaw than not enough wisecracks; it's a complete misunderstanding from the ground up. Someone tell me this isn't true.
-
yes, If they change that aspect of the film (in order to cram in more action) then my faith in comic book hero movies will take a huge nose dive. And this whole "re-boot" is so forced and so obvious that it already sucks. Part 3 was pretty bad. But not bad enough to go back and start from square one. This means a WHOLE NEW explanation of his origin. THEN a sequel where we "know" what his story is. Very feeble. VERY feeble.
-
LOL. Yeah, she sure had a flat face. Dunst is not that pretty.
-
Peter's parents were part of the comics. His parents were C.I.A. agents, which is why he lived with his aunt and uncle.
-
That's hard to calculate. SM2 was heralded as a great comic book film. TDK was heralded as a great film. So they're different metrics. SM2 was a goofy ass super-hero movie. And it did that fairly well. TDK was a bad ass crime story in the vein of a Michael Mann film and it did that well...until Two Face. Face it guys, they fucked up Two Face once again. Not as bad as Batman Forever but they fucked it up. Anyway, I wouldn't say that either were all that "overrated" but neither were perfect films.

...I have to disagree with you about Kirsten Dunst: I think she's cute. I realize this is not a common opinion at this site, and I'm going to make it worse by saying I find both Maggie Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway attractive as well. To be sure, no one asked me, but I'm constantly seeing these actresses slammed here, often with the revolting term "fugly" (which I assume is a contraction of "fucking ugly"), and I'm getting tired of it. These are subjective matters to some extent, admittedly, and I'm not saying any of them are the fairest of the fair (my personal yardstick there is Catherine Deneuve; now call me blind), but "fugly" is a very strong word, and I'm finding it hard to think of lead actresses in Hollywood in their age range the word would apply to. (If pressed, I might concede that Hillary Swank does nothing for me, but too strong a jawline is not the same as "fugly".) Now, I understand why someone might think Kirsten Dunst was not ideally cast as Mary Jane Watson. MJ is supposed to be a bombshell with curves that won't stop, which is not precisely Dunst's look. (I think someone here mentioned Alicia Witt, who's closer to my picture of MJ, but still not quite there.) Saying somebody isn't right for the part, though, is not the same as saying they're hideous. Buttercup, in The Princess Bride, is supposed to be one of the most beautiful women in the world, and to my mind, Robin Wright is nowhere near that. But I would never dream of calling the former Mrs. Penn ugly. I realize that exaggeration for effect is one of the engines of the Internet. Still, we would do better, I think, to say something like "I don't find her appealing" or "She just doesn't do it for me", instead of "She's fugly", and thereby recognize that these are largely matters of taste rather than objective judgements (unless we're talking the female equivalent of the Elephant Man). I know it's advice that no one will take; but it still needed to be said.
-
Way to much hate'n on Ms Dunst, and Maggie Gyllenhaal.
-
Because she was cute as the vampire girl in Interview with the Vampire so she got jobs after that even though she might not have if she didn't have "Claudia" on her resume. Like the Olsen twins. And I'm the one who mentioned Alicia Witt. Maybe she might not be a bombshell but she oozes sexuality and she's smart, which would have been a perfect foil for Spider-Man.

mugato5150, it's a little late to respond, but here goes..
by kisskissbangbang
...you may have a point about Dunst (which name sounds a bit cold, but Kirsten is too chummy for someone I don't know, and Ms. Dunst a bit pretentious here in this hotbed of informality). I've never seen anyone say she wasn't cute in Interview, so growing up may have caused some divergence of opinions. But I don't remember anyone slamming her in Bring It On, either. Could the anti-Dunst feeling actually have started with Spider-Man, as she was compared with the John Romita vision of MJ by fans who felt she just didn't measure up? I didn't feel she was totally suited to the role, but she ended up doing a fine job (the way I felt about Michael Keaton in Batman, or John Malkovitch in Dangerous Liasons, neither conventionally handsome guys). Glad you mentioned the Olsen twins, because they occurred to me in this context, but the post was already long enough. Never watched Full House, so I can't judge them as kids, but they've always struck me as a little spooky-looking, which I like in Christina Ricci, but not them. I find it hard to believe there was a clock on the Net counting down to their becoming legal at one time, but hey, personal taste. That said, I find their sister, new actress Elizabeth, much prettier, for what it's worth. Ah, so you're the Alicia Witt fan! I'll join you in that; I first saw her in Dune, and read a piece in USA Today around then about her being a real prodigy, so her name stayed with me. I didn't see her again till she was on Cybill, the TV series, as Zoe, and in Mr. Holland's Opus, matured into a lovely and talented young lady. I also rooted for her as MJ; I said above she wasn't quite my image of Mary Jane, but she was closer than anyone else. I'd wondered what had happened to her, but recently saw her on the cover of a music magazine, and read a photo-laden piece about her and her musical career, which is apparently going well despite being off my radar. I can't remember the mag's name, but you can google it, if you haven't already seen it. I don't think she's too old for a grown-up MJ, but since the new film's gone back to high school, she's out. 'Tis a pity... Thanks for replying; nice chatting with you.

by kisskissbangbang
...who to believe? (Because I'm too tired to go through alll those posts...) But we can all agree, at least, that she's a stunning woman. I've always had a thing for ladies who are as smart as they are hot, and she is a prime example (not to mention that she's a talented musician as well as an actress). It's just not fair; not to other women, though that's true, too, but to me--she doesn't even know I exist! (And, really, why should she?) And does it really matter who mentioned her first, as long as we all end up in the same place of Alicia Adoration? I think not; I'm just glad someone mentioned her at all. Thanks for the reminder, guys.
-
...glad we agree on Kirsten Dunst & Maggie Gyllenhaal. But no love for Anne Hathaway? And how do you feel about Alicia Witt? ('Cause we seem to have a fan club developing here...) In any event, thanks for the comment. (You, too, killik, if you're still reading.)

Considering how loaded next summer is with more comic book movies (like this summer was). They Rebooted/prequeled X-Men this year (and it was actually the best X-Men film), but it wasn't particularly popular either.
-
Mostly the first 30 minutes of the first one, and the Doc Ock/Spidey stuff in the second. Overall though there were a lot of dumb things in them, especially the third film, that just couldn't be overlooked.
-
Why all the hate for this reboot? C'mon! We're all fans of the source material! If you would've told a younger me that today we'd have multiple Spider-Man movies, new Batman movies, a freaking Avengers movie...I would have lost it. I think its interesting to see how spoiled fans have become to wonder why we need another Spider-Man movie. BECAUSE I AM A FAN OF SPIDER-MAN. I would watch one every year if they put it out. Not to mention that Raimi's first Spidey film came out a decade ago. Why all of the hate? Too soon? Are you kidding me? And while I'm on it, why do people compare the new Spider-Man to the Batman movie? Can't we be excited to see both? Why wouldn't you be?

it's so good it took Nolan's Batman Begins to put it in second place.

This poster is crap. I hate this kind of terribly rendered PhotoShop stuff tossed off with no care. Remember the incredible posters for the second Spider-Man film? Nothing this film has put out so far can match the terrific design and excitement of those posters. There is no mood or much atmosphere to this because the execution is so bad. You can see what they were going for but ...it just comes off so flat and dull. You'd think they'd be putting a lot more into making astonishing posters at this stage. But geez, look at the costume design. Same thing. Dull and uninspired.
-
...Sony wanted to crank out, just to hang on to the film rights to the Spider-Man property, before they reverted to Marvel-Disney? The whole thing does smack of a corporate rush job. Same with Snyder's 'Man of Steel', I've heard, and all the legal wranglings over the Shuster family estate and the Superman IP rights.
-
I sit here reading your complaints about a film that has a mere two and a half minutes of material to scrutinize. And you've nailed it to the wall as if you all know that the full feature will be a disappointment. Not simply disappointing, but so awful, that it inspires the most scathing review that one could give. AND THE MOVIE IS NOT EVEN OUT YET. It's like the internet has given everyone a license to hate. I'd love to see what the fuck you all do that deserves a good review. Are you all creative, talented, successful, and inspiring? I seriously doubt it. My opinion, while everyone is tossing around their's, is that the vast majority of you hammering this yet unseen movie would have no idea what a quality product is if it sat down on your X-Box and crushed it. Even if it slapped you into reality. Have a little taste. ....assholes.
