NEWS FLASH!!! Martin Scorsece (sp?) will be the guest star on Ro

    by stephen dedalus

Seeing as there is no other real news here, I'll go ahead and post my ten best of the decade list: (1)SCHINDLER'S LIST... conventional choice, I know, but don't feed me that crap about how it's not "really a 90's film." I couldn't have been made any other decade, and the fact that Spielberg made it shows a real maturity in Hollywood... (2)GOODFELLAS... (3)SECRETS AND LIES... (4)PULP FICTION... (5)BREAKING THE WAVES... (6)UNFORGIVEN... (7)AMERICAN BEAUTY... this year's best... (8)ALL ABOUT MY MOTHER... (9)L.A. CONFIDENTIAL... (10)WAG THE DOG.

    Just wondering...

I was reading Ebert's Answer Man column on his site today and noticed a question (actually more of commentary) about "Song of the South" in which the reader says something about a colleague of Ebert's. Was that Harry and was it from the cult movie special during Super Bowl weekend? It got pre-empted here and I missed it.

To All Thumbs- Yes, it was Harry...

    by stephen dedalus

...and I can't believe that Ebert would stand alongside the PC crowd and say that SONG OF THE SOUTH does not deserve a video release. How ignorant. It is a touching movie, terribly misunderstood, and one of Disney's best.

    I didn't get it either...

When I read his response, I just felt that it sounded totally unlike what I've read from him about other films that are similar (and worse..."Birth of a Nation") in their racist/stereotypical portrayals. I guess I'm one of those people that believe that you need to see what racism is to teach why it's so bad. And in this case, while I think hailing it as a family or kid's movie isn't a good idea, it should be at least made available at your local library and video store to check out and rent just to see what all the fuss is about. Dammit, I just want to see why it's so bad compared to half the crap released today.
