A Really Awesome Teaser Trailer For LOCK OUT!

Published at:  Dec 05, 2011 12:29:05 PM CST

Nordling here.

I know next to nothing about LOCK OUT, which stars Guy Pearce and Maggie Grace, is produced by Luc Besson, and comes out next year.  I looked at the plot synopsis and it sounds like it's a kind of ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK riff.  But judging by this international teaser, it looks like a hell of a lot of fun.  I've been waiting to see Pearce do something like this since L.A. CONFIDENTIAL, really - although he's a terrific actor, he's never played the smart-ass before and judging by the way Peter Stormare rips into him in the trailer, this is jus the tip of the iceberg of smartassery.  Looks pretty great, honestly.  Here's the teaser, thanks to BeyondHollywood.com:

LOCK OUT opens next spring, 2012.  Nordling, out.

Looks fun, yep and Pearce coming back into frame after the punch with a bent cigarette in his mouth is a nice touch.

The opening shots of the trailer kinda sets it up as a BIG sci fi... but the rest makes it look rather lower in budget and scope.

Or at least this trailer makes me think so. Because I very much enjoyed the dialogue parts, Pearce's wise-ass looks like a good proper wise-ass the sort Bruce Willis USED to be so good at. But then came along the sci-fi stuff and suddenly I was turned off. Hopefully they get the balance right though, it's certainly on my radar now.

I have no clue why it looks low budget. It's kinda confusing really as Guy Pearce is very selective about the films he stars in. There's other big names in there too. So why do the effects look cheaper than Star Trek Next Generation/Babylon 5..?

IMDB points to two directors on this project, neither of which has any solid background. Doesn't mean it won't be good. Just really curious why it looks so cheap!

The movie doesn't come out till late April. They're are probably still working on the effects. It's not an unknown thing to release trailers with some unfinished, unpolished computer effects.
On another note, this movie was written by the guy who did Fifth element. Story should be good.

Pretty funny bits of sarcasm, but all I could think of when watching the interrogation stuff was, "how many times did Guy Pearce watch 'Fight Club' before shooting this scene?"

I have no concept of the plot, and the effects look a little low budget... but I love Pearce in those snide, off-beat, mildly-comedic roles like "Ravenous," so I'll give it a shot.

That's why it looks like B5 to me- the station point defences look straight out of that show. As, for that matter, do a lot of other shots in that trailer.
But since I loved B5 to bits before JMS ran out of money/story, I'm not seeing the bad here.

yeah, i blame him for that movie. i love luc besson. he had me at professional. but he put mila in the 5th element and because of my great love of that movie i have continued to watch her movies. until 3d musketeers. that was the last shit dipped straw. she could be a bit part in a sequel to the professional and i still wouldn't be able to watch it, cause i can't watch any new movies with mila in them. i am barely able to watch the 5th element now. one more movie from her and even the 5th element will be ruined.
