Hey folks, Harry here... When they start remaking movies that you attended the original's world premiere & that was only 15 years ago... You might just go crazy. Looks like Neal Moritz is going to produce a remake of Paul Verhoeven's STARSHIP TROOPERS adaptation from Robert Heinlein's science fiction classic.
First off - there are great real reasons to remake STARSHIP TROOPERS - but it means adhering CLOSER to the original material and making the film EVEN bigger. Now many STARSHIP TROOPERS purists were quite upset at Paul Verhoeven's decision to not feature Power Armor... and with the HALO film constantly NOT HAPPENING... doing the bughunt in state of the art Power Armor... troops dropped from orbit like you saw in STAR TREK, but then have them land and unleash a brutal onslaught of never-before seen badassery... well, that could be worth it.
They've hired Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz - who penned X-MEN FIRST CLASS and THOR... though on THOR they built upon Protosevich's brilliant draft... and Goodman & Vaughn did an awful lot of work on X-MEN FIRST CLASS.... so I'm not real sure what to expect from them cracking on STARSHIP TROOPERS.
They haven't mentioned any directors yet, but man oh man I'd love to see Matthew Vaughn cut loose on this. Or my fave... Can you imagine Neill Blomkamp on this? Or full R-rated PETER JACKSON? This is me dreaming big on this film... but who would you love to see take the reins?
