Above is the first official image from Tommy Wirkola's HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS. It's pretty much what you think: the brother and sister of Grimm folklore have grown up to be come vengeful, bloodthirsty murderers of craggy-faced old women who eat kids. Thankfully, according to Gemma Arterton in an interview with EW, the tone is tongue-in-cheek, with a bit of a "Tarantino feel".
I wasn't a fan of Wirkola's DEAD SNOW, but for some reason I find this premise intriguing. As Arterton says, Hansel and Gretel were forced to kill at a very early age. That'll put a swift end to your childhood. If the film portrays its protagonists as deeply fucked up vigilantes, this could be a lot of fun. The film is set to open March 2nd, 2012, so I imagine there's a trailer coming this month (perhaps attached to MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE GHOST PROTOCOL). I'm curious to check it out.
