Tom Arnold blabbing about TRUE LIES 2 again
Hey folks, Harry here with a report from Setec about ol Tom Arnold saying that TRUE LIES 2 will begin filming this summer. Ahem. Well... This summer, Arnold is supposed to shot... COLLATERAL DAMAGE, I thought... So... what the hell? The script hasn't been turned in yet... And believe me, there will be significant budget discussions before Mechanic let's this film go forward... TITANIC or no TITANIC, Bill is absolutely rock solid on not sticking the studio's collective neck so far out on the chopping block again. So... until there is an approved script. Until Cameron has finished making his robot and whatever other mini-projects he may be undertaking are done... I really don't see TRUE LIES 2 as shooting in the next 5-6 months... But perhaps I don't know. I do know however, that everytime anyone has talked with Tom Arnold in the last year or TWO... he has said that he's "about" to start shooting on TRUE LIES 2. We'll see...
Dear Harry or whomever may be hacking into the seabound one's mail,
Just a note from the Gateway to the Worst here in St Louis, MO. During
either a fit of boredom or as the result of lead-based paint poisoning, I
found myself listening to talk radio Friday morn. I chanced upon a local
phone interview with Tom Arnold, the famed wit who brought us The Stoopids
and...whatever else he did. Anyway, he informed the listening audience, both
of us, that this summer he will be filming True Lies 2 with Jimmie Cameron
and Arnold. I don't recall ever reading this project as a go while perusing
AICN, so this took me by surprise. Maybe it's true, maybe Tom is doing a bit
of wishful publicizing, maybe I need to lay off the Liquid plumr. Whatever
the case, hope this prooves helpful (or at the very least an amusing bit of
time wasting drivel.

i'm first, goddammit!!!!!!!!!

tom arnold is a windbag.
-
if they do, then it'll rock. I loved the first one, at if all the same (and right) people are behind the second one... well, then folks, hold onto your seats!
-
This film seems like the saving grace of his future career.
-
by this i mean those idiots who feel the need to be first... wankers
-
I know it sounds crazy since his character died in part one, but Abe says they are starting shooting this summer and he will play a spirit that haunts Andy Garcia . . .
Tom Arnold has no carreer and is just praying that one day he'll get a call to be in this movie. He gets in front of an audience and knows True Lies was the only thing he ever did that didn't send audience screaming for mercy. They begin filming this summer and he's the only one that knows about it? yeah, right.

I would like to have sex with her so I can become a half-assed star too.
-
That famed wit was NOT Tom Arnold...it was John "Keep Me Away From Helicopters" Landis. He gets the blame.

Are people really holding out, breath baited, for another film i
by alexandra dupont
I mean, really -- people seem to forget the climax of this film involved sending a Middle Eastern terrorist shooting through a building strapped to a missile with a Three Stooges-esque

True Lies was the best damn Bond flick in years, and since the Bond franchise has officially lost all steam, I'd definitely be up for another True Lies outing. I've got a few issues with True Lies, myself, but nothing that cripples the movie for me. Yeah, that bad-guy-on-a-missile was a bit much, even considering that the film was as much a comedy as an action flick. And I'm definitely one of those who thinks Arny never got his proper comeuppance for playing mind games with his wife. So it's a little flawed, yes, but I only wish other action movie directors made such fucking great flawed movies. Now as for Bond, as I see it, the only way to revive the series, the only way to make it cool again, would be to do a Bond flick as a period piece in the Cold War 50's and 60's. Drop *all* the movie cliches and start from scratch, taking total cue from Fleming's novels.

I read in the NY post a few days ago that Camerons next film will be True Lies 2. I didn't take too much stock in it because it was Cindy Adams but combined with the above..... Hmmmm
P.S. By the way True Lies 2 = career life preserver for Tom Arnold -
Okay, let me get this straight. The villian in TRUE LIES was an Arab/Iraqi/Islamic guy who wanted to blow up America, or at least a substantial part of it (this, by the way, is the only image that Hollywood has of Middle-Eastern people). Why? When Ah-nuld asks him, he says its because "our people are sick and tired of being labeled as terrorists!" Huh? And you plan to resolve this problem by setting off a nuclear bomb? Good scripting! Not to mention that Bill Paxton was irritating, Jamie Lee Curtis was embarrasing, and the bad guys were all stereotypes. Gee, do you think the sequel will be as effective a film?
-
...is if Eliza Dushku is the one doing the asskicking in this movie, instead of just playing the damsel in distress like she did in the first one.
-
A sequel? Looks unlikely guys... Cameron is enjoying his off time right now and with his ego he views movies as "well, i already am the best..." As for the complete recast...yuck! Come on!! Please spare us the sequel out there.

Actually, some of the Bond bad guys were pretty realistic...
by stephen dedalus
Well, they used to be, anyway. Back in the 60's and 70's, when we were still having heated problems with the Soviets, there were evil Commie bad guys who wanted to steal defense plans (or nukes, or secrets, or whatever), which seemed pretty realistic for its day. Remember, people back then were still having fears that the Russians would act up, even though a lot of that went out with McCarthyism in the 50's. By the early 80's, though, things were starting to get pretty ridiculous. MOONRAKER was a bad sign, with the whole James-Bond-in-outer-space bit that was laughable at best (even though I still consider OCTOPUSSY to be a great guilty pleasure). Fortunately, Timothy Dalton brought a grounding of reality back into the series, with the complex, realistic plotlines of THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS and LICENCE TO KILL. But like you said, I would question Pierce Brosnan's villans. They don't really seem to have a point to them (except for Johnathan Pryce's terrific satire on Rupert Murdoch).

I swear I'm not related, although my last name just happens to be Arnold, but why be so hard on a guy who never had anything to prove? Everyday regular people like you and me should be grateful to see someone stumble to high depths of the profession on his butt. So his career's a fluke, what's so bad about that? He's someone to identify with. It's always been a joy for me to watch him and think "That could be me". I felt he was tolerable in TRUE LIES and NINE MONTHS, but in general, I do agree that he's done some astonishingly awful work for the most part, it's how we feel that's different. On the other hand, believe it or not, he was excellent in Paul Schrader's little seen TOUCH. I was sorry when he dropped out of ANY GIVEN SUNDAY, which I thought might have been an equal performance to TOUCH that would be better exposed. Seeing him give a good performance restored some personal self esteem in that I felt, once again "that could have been me"! I look forward to his performance in the Steve Buscemi movie. Whether it's another good one, or whether it's dreadful.

The movie will star Arnold Stang, as Arnold Schwarzenegger(Billed as Arnold Strong.) who will make a cameo appearance in the first ten minutes and then gets killed. His fee is $50 million dollars. Tom Arnold assumes the position(!) Schwarzenegger had and must fight two diabolical TERRORISTS this time played by Ricky Martin and Bijan working for a SMERSH-type agency run by David Geffen. The love interest is Brooke Shields. Music by Abba and the Bay City Rollers.
-
I really enjoyed True Lies but one thing always sat wrong with me and I couldnt figure it out until now. I believe that at the end of the movie Arnold and Jamie Lee are agents at a dinner party out of the country. Well what the hell is Bill Paxton doing there? I know it was probably for comic relief but they could actually make a pretty good sequel by saying that he's a spy too and was trying to set Arnold up in the first one but got bushwacked before he could. Thats why he met up with Jamie Lee in the first one..just to get to Arnold! Man that would be gold!
-
As much as I liked True Lies, and BTW I thought that Tom Arnold was good in it (his only good performance I've seen), BUT is Cameron's talent really needed on the second flick? I would much rather have Cameron work on a fresh new project rather than a franchise film. I just don't think I could get past the cheese factor if "Boris" and "Doris" went out together again to save the world from terrorism.... I just don't buy that a legal secretary or whatever she was could cut it in the real world of spying. Jamie Lee Curtis is a good actor, but I think her character needs a little more thought put into it on the writing side o thangs. That's my 2 red cents worth.
-
that guy is a piece of crap, his acting his crap, his career is crap and his attempts at being funny in all his "movies" are pitiful crap. what crap. holy crap. a pile of crap. full of crap. enough of this crap. thats alot of crap. i wont take any more of this crap....

Paxton was very good as the sleazy car saleman, whoever mentioned that was on it. When he pisses himself, that's classic. Where's pisso the clown been anyways? I enjoyed his yellow lensed sunny warm yellow drippy urin-a-comments. Red_2 out.

UHH, sorry. It said error, so I repost and both show. WTF?
Red out. -
Boy, I've been in here alot. RipR. gotta agree Tom A sucks ass in general as an actor. But I gotta say that in TL he was good, because he didn't act, he acts just like he normally does seems to be, a smart ass. That's more red cents worth, am I up to a dime yet?
-
Tom Arnold was the best thing in TL with Jamie Lee Curtis bashing Arnold over the head (He deserved it!) with the telephone coming in second.
-
I guess i'm one of the few, but I always got the feeling Roseanne was the one full of shit when it comes to Tom beating her. Ever notice how Roseanne claims to be a victim of everything? Like the time she claimed her parents molested her and they cried on t.v the next day, I never believed that.
-
I think Denis Leary said it best when speaking about Rosanne's recent behavior. "Not Rosanne?? She seems so normal." Despite the fact that Tom Arnold's Springboard to fame was shacking up with her, I find it hard to swallow that he was the only cause of that relationships problems.
-
I know I've said this before, but Jamie Lee Curtis confirmed to me personally (I hesitate to say that this info is "straight from the horse's mouth") that True Lies 2 is being made and that she is "doing sit-ups" to get in shape for another striptease scene. (Gee, I guess this *won't* just be a rehash of TL1--Note sarcasm here) She did NOT, however, confirm when filming was to begin but from her hints I would guess not for about 6 months.
-
Alrighty, now that i've shown off my broken English i can say my thing now though i have this feeling no one's life is gonna change cause of this. Anyway, as much as i loved True Lies and pretty much all its cast (i'd even go so far as to say that was Arnie's best acting job. -i'm saying that only cause he had maybe two dozen lines in Terminators) i have to agree with
some and say Cameron shouldn't waste his time on such a movie. If he was one of those directors who make a movie every 18 months or so then sure, i'd love to see the ongoing misadventure of Boris&Doris but since Jimmy needs at least 3 years to film a movie, i say he better focuses his energy on something a little bit more original...or even, what the heck, that Avatar thing.
Oh yes, i also have to agree with some folks about that missile scene at the end, that was so uncalled for. But the bits with arnie talking to the horse and ESPECIALLY the uzi falling down the stairs were the biggest splinters in my eye. BTW, does anyone out there think that shot of bridge being blown up was the BEST explosion ever done on the silver screen? Take care people.
**P.S.** AlexandraDuPont - thanks for understanding of my ..er..mental state that time, i like people who accept apologies. :) -
I didn't bother reading all of the comments saying how much True Lies sucked, but, since no one around here has the LEAST bit of taste in movies I consider reading such comments not worth my time anyway. AT ANY RATE! True Lies 2 will rock the farm. Have you all forgotten that James Cameron has managed TWICE to make a sequel that's better than the original? I suppose some will disagree with that, but I think the general consensus of REAL moviegoers (read: not us) would agree. True Lies is one of the more poignant movies based off its subject ever. It's clever, funny, and action-packed. Oh, and GIMME A BREAK with this Bil Mechanic and his iron fist crap. Cameron could direct Mac & Me Part 2 and spend 200 mil on it and they couldn't stop him.
-
well the first one was kind of interesting and certainly ok, seemingly out of step with Cameron's other films. felt very "last-minutish" in execution and SCRIPT development. a vehicle to put Arnold back on top???
However does anyone REALLY want to see Fox drop another $140 million on a star who no longer is a box office monster(his days are long past, TL was his really last big hurrah..)??
Forget TL 2....i have to hope Cameron has not lost perspective and really intends to make this film... -
Yeah Piranha 2 was frickin awesome..... yeah right... Ok, don't get me wrong, but has Cameron made a sequel to one of his own films.... no? I love him and his movies, but he should not make this movie. This is definitely a step down on the movie scale, Titanic made a shitload of money, and now Cameron's being slated for a sequel to his own movie. True Lies does not need a sequel. Does this seem like a bad move on Cameron's part to anyone else? Nothing new is going to come out of it and it'll be Arnies next flop. Cameron is of the calibar that he makes movies and others follow, so for him to go back to an okay movie and do a sequel.... well, I think it would be a mistake on Cameron's part. Maybe he just isn't confident after Titanic to make a less mainstream movie or maybe it's just me. Do something original damnit. We are tired of the same old story told as a sequel, granted that Cameron is one of the best at sequels (Aliens is my fav. movie by him - extended play all the way, and he took Terminator to new heighths in T2), but let a hedge director do TL2. Anybody could do it, Woo, Verhoeven. It seems that whatever Cameron does as his next movie, there is no way it will live up to the figures that Titanic drew in, so maybe he wants a no brainer to take the pressure off of him cause he knows it won't measure up, and then he can do something a little less mainstream and risky. I don't know, this disappoints the hell out of me. Red_2 out.

I would never defend anyone as a wife beater, but is that a fact that he was? Prove it to me, and I'll defect to the anti-Tom Arnold majority. As another posting said, she tells stories, including some about her parents, which her siblings denied. The fact is, I have several idols in show business who are rumored to have been monsters. Just because I don't always believe it does not mean I condone their alleged actions. I would be interested to hear what kind of husband Tom Arnold was in his second marriage. That may help prove one way or another.
-
TRUE LIES was entertaining...but in NO WAY does it demand a sequel!! Well, except as a way to make cash for someone. I mean, do any of you REALLY want to spend another two hours with any of those characters? The first one was sufficient, thanks.
-
or harry in the fan. We wanna see ur fatass not in a fuckin' movie. Didn't he use to fuck Rosanne?
