Another BEFORE SUNRISE Movie? Please Please Please...

Nordling here.

Of all the films Richard Linklater has done - and yes, I'm counting DAZED AND CONFUSED among them - the BEFORE SUNRISE/BEFORE SUNSET films are my favorite.  I think they're amazingly romantic, but truthful as well - in the first film Hawke and Delpy's characters have their whole lives before them, they're in vienna, and it's like the entire day is made for them.  In SUNSET, they have changed from that glorious day - they are different people, with different experiences, and while they may not have the same optimism they are still very much attracted to each other and they have that special something that defines that one great love in their lives.

BEFORE SUNSET ended with Hawke's character missing a flight back to New York and his family, listening to Delpy sing him a song in her apartment.  "Baby, you're going to miss that plane," are the last words of that film, and now, Ethan Hawke says that he, Richard Linklater, and Julie Delpy are thinking about a third film to the project, according to Vulture.  In the interview Hawke said, "All three of us have been having similar feelings that we're ready to revisit those characters. There's nine years between the first two movies and, if we made the film next summer, it would be nine years again so we've really started thinking that would be a good thing to do. We're going to try write it this year."

Now that's a sequel I can get behind.  Did they end up having a life together, or did he bolt back home?  What happened after?  These films are rich with dialogue and passion - there's a shot in SUNSET where Delpy reaches to stroke Hawke's hair but suddenly pulls back as he turns his head that's one of my favorite shots in movies - and I'd much rather see this than a billion new TRNASFORMERS films.  Let's hope these three get together very soon.  In the meantime, a double feature just might be the ticket...

Nordling, out.
