'Otherwise We're Going To Have To Yield The Field Of Play Here!!' Herc Loves Starz’ New Kelsey Grammer Hourlong BOSS!! Watch The Pilot, Right Here Right Now!!

Published at: Oct. 15, 2011, 6:09 a.m. CST by hercules

I am – Hercules!!

Starz’ “Boss” pilot, about a ruthless Chicago mayor with big problems, was directed by Gus Van Sant (“Drugstore Cowboy,” “Elephant,” “Milk”) from a teleplay by Farhad Safinia (“Apocalypto”).

It stars Kelsey Grammer (“Cheers,” “X-Men: The Last Stand”), Connie Nielsen (“Gladiator,” “SVU”), Jeff Hephner (“The OC,” “Easy Money,” “Hellcats”), Hannah Ware (“Cop Out”), Troy Garity (“The Playboy Club”), Martin Donovan (“The Opposite of Sex,” “Weeds,” “The Dead Zone”), and gorgeous Canadian Kathleen Robertson (“Beverly Hills 90210,” “Hollywoodland,” “Tin Man”), who gets kind of naked.

The pilot is TV-MA excellence, the only pilot I’ve seen this fall that rivals the one for Showtime’s “Homeland.” Think “The Wire” with many fewer cops. Think “Deadwood” meets latter-day “West Wing.” It’s the best pilot by far I’ve ever seen on Starz, I’d love to know how it didn’t end up on AMC or FX or HBO or Showtime.

Don’t believe me? Watch it now in its entirety:

If you don’t have access to a computer, it premieres on Starz next Friday.

Starz' best show by far is Spartacus...can a show about a corrupt Chicago mayor beat the blood, guts and soft porn of Spartacus?

Yeah, I admit it makes me less inclined as well... At least it looks like the Tea Party is waning. How powerful can they be if Mitt Romney's gonna be the Repub. nominee? Will they soon go the way of Glenn Beck? A tiny, pathetic stain on the history of American discourse?

Break the law. Well, not technically. But they'd like you to look at it that way. Just find a tv torrent site. It's already up on one I know of. When will they learn that their odd restrictions will just be bypassed?

  • Filthy buggers cant even bathe or figure what exactly they are protesting against. Douchers. And kudos to Grammar for not pulling the usual Hollywood liberal pussy poison.

Kelsey Grammer is a fucked up guy

    by thelordofhell

But he's a damn good actor. His potrayal of The Beast in X3 is the only reason I watch that shitfest of a movie. Add in Frasier and Down Periscope......he's done quite well for himself. He needs to do a biopic of Jack Benny.

We are shooting for a total financial collapse of unprecedented proportions somewhere in the next 24-48 months. Carve that in stone. We're done. The tea party is the only group that has the balls to say we need to STOP SPENDING TWICE AS MUCH MONEY AS WE TAKE IN. That hard for you to figure out? I guess so.

if you people would just direct your anger toward the real problem- the banks- like the occupy wall streeters are doing, then we could all agree on something. OBAMA ISN'T FUCKING YOU!!! WALL STREET IS FUCKING YOU!!! don't let the republicans brainwash you.

  • Oct. 15, 2011, 10:09 p.m. CST

Jared wow that is some stupidity right there

    by Saen

As of October 4, 2011, the gross debt was $14.86 trillion. The CBO projects total revenues of $2.228 trillion and total outlays of $3.708 trillion for a deficit of $1.48 trillion for 2011. Blaming Bush for the current spending is pretty stupid. As Obama, and the Congress, control this not Bush. Furthermore anytime I see the occupy wall street protests they are shouting about the bank bailouts, which Obama supported Bush doing and continued to do in his Presidency. So if Wall Street fucked you by getting a bailout, the OBAMA fucked you because he gave it to them. Just like OBAMA fucked you when he gave out 500 million dollars to his campaign but buddys solar company, which his own people told him would fail, the month it would fail, and not to even stand by it because it would make him look bad now! But continue being a leftist retard who sees anyone who doesn't support Obama as racist; and can't understand basic math and terms like spending, deficit, and debt.

  • Who doesn't have a clue. They're pissed about taxes? Taxes have been lower than they have been in decades. Spending? Where was the Tea Party when Bush started two wars under false pretenses and said and I quote, It will cost what it costs? Those wars were kept off the books until after he left office BTW. Where was the Tea Party when Bush started the corporate bailouts? In fact, where was the Tea Party at all until the second Obama got elected? Sorry to veer off topic but who gives a shit about this show anyway?

  • Oct. 15, 2011, 10:47 p.m. CST

I'll take the Tea Party as genuine...

    by mjgtexas

who gives a shit about this show anyway

    by FastEddie8139

I don't know, I mean I pretty much despise the teabaggers, but I give more of a shit about this show than I do about the politics of its lead actor. If the show is good, what else matters? So he's a Republican, big fucking deal. Ever pay money to see a Polanski film? Because then you're supporting a child rapist. That's serious shit; this isn't.

sometimes companys fail. solyndras collapse is no different than any other company collapse. if you really want to get started on company collapses lets talk enron, shall we? enron was ripping investors off for years and nobody cared. bush sold his stock a few weeks before the bankruptcy. where was the SEC investigation into enron and bush?

  • Oct. 15, 2011, 11:27 p.m. CST

Jared stop making excuses for Obama, hes not your messiah

    by Saen

Solyndra's collapse is different because it was predicted years ago to the fuckin Month, because it was so obvious that Thin Film technology was a bust, that you cant sell for 33 cents what costs you 66 cents to make, and all it took to predict exactly when the company would fail was taking their burn rate and applying it to the loan amount! He knew it was a failure going into it, he had the exact figures, he had close aides telling him to steer clear of it, but he stole 500 million dollars of tax payer money to payback campaign contributors. Blatant crony capitalism. And no matter what Bush did, Bush IS NOT THE PRESIDENT, SO IT DOES NOT FUCKIN MATTER WHEN DECIDING HOW MUCH OF A CROOK OBAMA IS! Bush is in the past, hes done! I didnt vote for Bush! but I also am not some leftist moron who seems to think Obama shits Sunshine and his lying and cronyism is ok because of someone else doing it. Wake up and smell his shit. Is this really the hope and change you were expecting? Is this doing things differently? Take off the Bush goggles and take a real good look at Obama.

    by angrykirby.tk

Hi def makes me wish they put more make up on everyone and that Kelsey Grammer would trim his nose hairs. I liked the pilot even though it was a bit slow and the sex scene seems to be there to pad out the run time, and also way too many pretty people in this show was the lady in bed at his house supposed to be his wife? putting a gray streak in a models hair does not make me think shes old or a mayors wife whatever I really liked watching frasier yell at everyone and own shit. Kinda like the degenerating brain thing, hope it pushes the show forward like walt's cancer on breaking bad does. Hope it doesn't ween into failure like every other stars show so far

  • Oct. 16, 2011, 4:56 a.m. CST

Who cares what his politics are.

    by American Mythos

I'm a liberal and I'll watch most anything with Kelsey Grammer. Frasier reruns are like comfort food to me. And I always thought it would have been cool if Captain Morgan Bateman returned to Star Trek: TNG in a villainous role (perhaps in some time travel plot with Bateman and crew willing to sacrifice innocent lives to get back to their own time). It was a huge mistake to only use that character once, and for only a few seconds at that.

    Yay! Politics!

    by FlandersBum

Herc really should start that political web site he's been dying to do. I mean, there is such a huuuuuge demand for yet another left leaning, liberal blog out there. There is almost no place for liberals to post articles about how much they hate capitalism that they wrote on their iPod2 while drinking their Starbucks. Almost no web site devoted to thought provoking topics such as how stupid Rush Limbaugh is at the same time praising Bill Mahr for being a genious. Nothing bashing Fox News using talking points they picked up on MSNBC. I mean really, there's a big void in internet land....c'mon Herc don't let us down! At least post another 500 articles here about the lack of intelligence noted in Sarah Palin (no sign of obsession there at all, no sir!). I'm really serious here.

  • I liked the show though. It was entertaining.

  • Oct. 16, 2011, 6:09 a.m. CST

Episode 1 is also available on FiOS Starz on Demand

    by Titus05

might check it out but there's too many shows I'm watching now

  • You won't watch this show because Grammer supports the Tea Party? Really? Hollywood is 95% liberal and if I stopped watching shows or movies because of the actor's politics, I'd never watch anything. People seriously have a problem if they refuse to watch a good show based on something so trivial...

  • It is much more common for the liberals out there to shun conservatives based on their politics than the other way around...

  • Oct. 16, 2011, 8:26 a.m. CST

    Two things...

    by Batguy

One, not ALL liberals do this (shun people or things associated with them based on their political beliefs). Don't generalize, lest you misunderstand us. I disagree with the person above who is shunning this show for said reason, yet I am firmly liberal in my beliefs. Two, I'm highly impressed with this first episode. I had the pleasure of working as an extra on two episodes, and I had no idea what to expect in terms of quality! I think Grammer has serious chops. The cast seems uniformly good. Here's hoping that the next seven are as good or better...

once again you have it wrong. i wasn't saying lets boycott the show. all i was trying to say is obama isn't the problem. the tea party blames him for a bad economy and its not his doing. and kelsey grammer is a tea party supporter so there for he must blame obama, too.its neocons like you who boycott people for their views not us liberals. when the dixie chicks were in london in 2003, they said they didn't like that bush was from their home state of texas, and the media and neocon assholes ripped them apart. they destroyed their records. they burned memerobilia with thier names on it. so don't blame us liberals for boycotting anything.

Where does the Kelsey Grammar - Tea Party association come from?

    by Bass Ackwards

A quick google search I've only found one interview, where Grammar says he's Republican, but he doesn't even sound overly familiar with the Tea Party, and when the interviewer notes that the Tea Party is anti-gay marriage, Grammar rejects that stance as something he can't stand behind.

  • Oct. 16, 2011, 5:09 p.m. CST

The Tea Party Movement IS better than the Occupy protests...

    by TopHat

...Why? Because at least the participants of the Tea Party "Movement" have the common sense to vote. THAT'S why it receives more coverage and is actually considered more substantial. See, voting, is a form of striking. The only times the elite have ever allowed the poor and middle-class in this country to have anything, is when the poor and middle-class have MADE them. And they made them by organizing and performing strikes. The Occupy protests state that they're using the "Arab Spring" tactic. The HUGE difference being that the Arab Revolution used mostly strikes, not protests. THAT'S why they made change. These idiots are just performing a music festival without the music performances. Then, proudly brag about not voting and misquote a George Carlin joke from the nineteen eighties as an excuse. Guess what, morons: The reason why all the bad stuff is happening right now is because you didn't vote in 2010. The ignorant Tea Baggers did. So, THEIR candidates got in and the Republicans gained control. See, the Republicans don't give a fuck about anyone other than themselves. That's why they're holding up everything, even if it helps the American people. This will happen anytime the Republicans have an advantage. The only way it won't happen is if they don't. And the only way they don't is if people other than Tea Baggers and Neo-Christians VOTE. But, you're not doing that or going on strikes. No, you're walking around cities, pouting, or watching THE DAILY SHOW and blaming everyone other than yourselves. BOSS seems like a good show.

    bobo_vision, Kelsey Grammer's dad wasn't a convincted murderer...

    by American Mythos

... his dad was murdered, shot and killed in his driveway. Read a little of his bio on the internet -- guy has had a fucked up life, including his sister being kidnapped and murdered. I think you're thinking of Woody Harrelson's father, who was a contract killer. After the personal hardships Grammer has suffered, I'm happy whenever he's in something successful. I don't have Starz, so I might have to pick up Boss on iTunes if it makes it there.

His younger sister was kidnapped, RAPED and murdered. He said that fucked him up for the next 20 years of his life. Honestly I don't know who wouldn't get fucked up by that sort of thing; especially after what happened to his dad, and then losing his grandfather who practically raised him and then his sister like that. The guy may be a Republican (one of the more sane ones apparently - seeing as he doesn't agree with a lot of Teat Party antics), unfortunately and he was wrought upon us the creature that is Camille Grammer, but you'd have to be a cold-hearted son of a bitch not for feel for him even a little bit. Just watched him on Piers Morgan, and you've just gotta be happy for him having found some semblance of true love and happiness with his latest wife. Oh, and I'd be hard-pressed to think of a role he's played that I did not enjoy since his Frasier days, and even in that godawful De Niro movie 15 minutes where he played that slimy TV anchor.
