Black Rubber Waving Harry takes a looksee into Guy Ritchie's SNATCH

Published at:  Feb 05, 2000 2:47:52 AM CST

Hey mates, Harry here with a look from Black Rubber Waving Harry at Guy Ritchie's disgusting filthy violent convulsively entertaining sounding odor=filled SNATCH. BRWH has read the script, and has gone and spilt a detail or two... so if you would... or could... refrain from continuing, then that would very well be your choice in the matter and not me own. There are SPOILERS below... but I don't be feeling that it'd make a grand difference, one way or another it sounds like a kickass followup to a Kickass debut...

Hi I'm not sure if you care but i recently read the final draft of snatch by
Guy Ritchie. Needless to say, if you loved lockstock you'll love this and
vice a versa - which is good - I loved lockstock and so did loads of others
and to be able to come up with a huge array of great characters and some
supremely witty dialouge for a second time is no mean feat. Plus there's the
same nicely crafted inter weaving plot with small actions by one group of
mugs creating havoc for others. Comic highlights include a brilliant
'squeaking' and farting dog - milk drinking 'Turkish' - and a pawn shop
heist gone wrong.

BUT... its a bit too simlar for my liking to lock stock. Guy Ritchie is
sticking to what he knows - and after a brilliantly querky and surreal
opening involving 3 fat jews its quite sad just to see him cowardly
returning to the tested track for the rest of the film. Plus Brad Pitt has
obviously been thrown in as Micky to give the film guaranteed international
recognition. There is no way Brad suits it. Mickey is a small pikie - a
tough dirty midget of a gypsy who lives in a carvan and loves his mam, with
the ability to knock out huge hefers of men out in one punch. Yes i've seen
Fight Club (its great), but no he still ain't close. And there's also a
censorship problem. Hares get ripped apart by dogs but more worringly is the
explicit nature of one scene in an underground dog-fight. Overall I reckon
it'll be great - but definately have the good sequel style of sucess rather
than 'oh my god he's a directing genius' style of sucess he's probably
capable of.

    Black Rubber Waving Harry?

    by lazarus long

Is the rubber black or is the guy black, differentiating himself from AICN Harry waving a rubber? I don't get it. Anyway, this review doesn't surprise me, but if all this guy read is the script, how can he say Guy Ritchie is resorting to the same old tricks? We won't know until he's done actually DIRECTING the fucking thing. Having said that, I still don't see the big fucking deal about Lock, Stock, Suck My Cock-N-Balls...not because it was derivative, but because, let's face it, it wasn't as impressive as Reservoir Dogs, let alone Jackie Brown. That flash in the pan...it ain't gold, folks.

    Regardless of the actual movie....

    by deltahead

... I bet the title will be changed, at least in America. Can you actually picture a movie marquee boasting the word "SNATCH" in big letters? (Excepting, of course, your finer pornography vendors.) About the movie itself, I liked Lock Stock and etc. but heist-gone-funny-wrong movies are difficult to do once, never mind twice. Good luck to him, though. Peace.

    Lock Stock Ruled

    by wheel99

I dont know about lumping lock stock in with Jackie Brown. Jackie Brown was a Star Filled Piece of shit. Every famous person in that film was an eye sore. Not even Sam jackson was that impressive. It seemed like he was spoofing himself in this movie. Lock, Stock, on the other hand was a smart, well paced, funny as hell and well casted and acted. I would expect that the Lock stock follow up will be better received than Jackie Brown was.

    lock, stock and two oscars

    by eddie munster

Lock, stock was one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time and I'm a hard guy to entertain. This next movie sounds pretty good, but then again I've always been a fan of Brittish humour. Cheers, live forever and so no

Any of you guys actually see Lock stock?

    by anutterfiasco

Black Rubber Waving Harry is in reference to Hatchet Harry in Lock stock. When Soap suggests that they just don't pay Harry, he is told of a story in which an angered Harry beat a guy to death with the first thing he could get his hands on, a big, black, rubber dildo.

I reallly liked "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels", but I'm afraid that "Snatch", or whatever, won't be all that good. It's sort of like "Pulp Fiction". It was a good movie, but the director's follow up ("Jackie Brown") wasn't all that good. Just my opinion.--Saulot--

    What's wrong with the title?

    by mr stonky

Forgive me if I get patronising (that means talking down to people, by the way) but I think some people here may not have got the point:

Snatch: as in steal; as in purse-snatching; as in armed robbery.

Snatch: as in women's, um, thingies; as in porno shop.

    It's called a , folks.

    pee-pee, poo-poo

    by dawson's crack

I've got a great idea for a movie. Let's make it about gangsters who talk about pop-culture, and have them fart while they talk? Then maybe some other even WACKIER characters come into it, followed by even WACKIER camera angles and motions. Then everyone commences telling poo-poo and pee-pee jokes, followed by them actually poo-pooing and pee-peeing on each other. Then there will be a big shoot-out, and someone will get their face smashed in, and there will be a scene when three of the characters ALL have the gun pointed at each other. They talk a little more about star wars and THE END.
    Sincerely,
    Guy Ritchie

erm, pulp fiction was a follow up which kind of spoils your argument. it even has a cousin of a charachter from the first film as it's star (or was it brother I'm not sure). i thought that lock stock was overrated and was far too pushed here in the uk. it is good to see a british film being succesful over in the states, not matter how bad it is.-----------feel the chese------------http://www.indiecheese.co.uk

What I meant was this: Jackie Brown was Tartintino's COMMERICAL follow-up to Pulp Fiction. I'm not denying Resevior Dogs, which, IMHO, was a great movie. However, L,S,&2SBs is Ritche's break-through commerical film, which is like PF is Tartintino's commerical break-through.--Saulot--
