AICN UK: THE BUNNY GAME refused classification by the BBFC

Britgeek here.

Indie horror THE BUNNY GAME has gained notoriety for its graphic depiction of sexual violence, and it is this such content that the folks at the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) have determined to be far too strong and potentially influential for UK audiences to handle. It may be 2011 and an endless sea of depravity is available at our fingertips as a result of the internet, but feature films are still dangerous, ostensibly. At least according to the BBFC, who have effectively banned THE BUNNY GAME, refusing to give it a classification, which means it is illegal to distribute in the UK.

This comes just days after THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE II (FULL SEQUENCE) was passed with an 18 certificate after four months of campaigning from distributor Eureka Entertainment/Bounty Films, which followed the original decision in June to reject the film.

THE BUNNY GAME has been hailed as an experimental film that is as disturbing as it is artistic. It follows a prostitute who is mercilessly tortured by a trucker when she hitches a ride. Many have praised the lead performance of Rodleen Getsic and the talents of writer-director Adam Rehmeier, yet at present it is still a little seen movie that is yet to find distribution in the US. Trinity Films picked it up in the UK under their Trinity X label, but now find themselves with a movie that they can't put out. Only time will tell if the company decides to re-cut and resubmit to the BBFC.
