    by acquanetta

Bruce is only scheduled to be on set for 5 days, Arnold for 4 days, and Chuck for 3 days.

So while none of them will be reduced to another minute long cameo, it doesn't sound like they'll be seeing any significant screentime, either.

Bruce Willis is a class act!

    by atheron

I was working on RED in Toronto as an extra about two years ago. Me and five other guys were dressed up in SWAT gear, and being given our prop guns. From behind us, a cheerful voice says "now there's a bunch of handsome soldiers". We turn around, and there is Bruce Willis, dressed up in fire fighter gear. He chatted with us for a few moments, and then went to the set. He was just so friendly and cool with everyone, that it was impossible not to like the guy. I've worked on about 10 films in Toronto, and he was the nicest star I've ever met.

for a bunch of guys in their 60's or late 50's. And the first Expendables was a good, fun popcorn flick. Whaddya want? Shakespeare? Personally, I'm stoked to see Chuck in this. Van Damme? Not so much but that's me. But seriously, how can you bitch about a movie like this that gathers up practically every action star of the past 40 years? So the first one wasn't the best movie ever made. We knew that going in. It was an excuse to get all these guys together. Something that most action movie fans have always wished for. And now, they've added the two guys that everybody asked for who weren't in the first one and some of you fanboys are STILL whining. Yeah, go watch Shia diddle his robots. Or better yet, there's a new sparkly vampires with feelings movie that'll be out soon for ya.

And hopefully, this sequel will BE that classic that we'd all like to see. Maybe I didn't have the expectations for it that some did because these guys ARE a lot older than they were when they ruled the box office. But I still thought it was cool to see them together and the movie didn't suck. About the only person of note that isn't in the new one is The Rock.

    Talking bout my generation...

    by redbomber

I desperately wanted to love the first Expendables... but in the end, I had to settle for liking it. Let's be honest, it wasn't a great film, it was a fun film. It was fun to have all these guys in one action cinema blowout - but the story itself, and Sly's direction, were a bit underwhelming. And I say that with nothing but love and admiration for Sly.

I grew up a child of the late 70's and 80s, watching Sly and Arnie and Willis. These guys were my fucking cinema heroes, and I still love them. The Expendables wasn't their best work, but Sly managed to pull off something pretty awesome. A reminder that, in this era of spandex superheroes and hobbits and magicians, old school 80s action heroes still rock.

I'll be there for any Expendables sequels Sly pushes through - it's a great concept even if it still hasn't captured its potential.

I'm hoping big things for the sequel. Yes, we can all piss on Simon West for one film or another. But frankly, Con Air is a pretty great guilty pleasure movie. And perhaps West will rise to this occasion. The Mechanic was terrible - great look and feel, but ultimately I felt it was hollow and boring.

All that said, my faith in my 80s icons remains intact - so fingers crossed!

Do any of the cast give a shit about making a good film?

    by melonman

I thought The Expendables was going to be a classic men on a mission movie, in the grand tradition of The Wild Geese, Dogs of War, Where Eagles Dare, fuck, even Uncommon Valour.

Instead Stallone chose to lay a giant turd.

All the shit that movie makers spout about "getting it right this time" (a la Transformers, Pirates franchises when they take a shit in the audiences' mouths) is just that. Bullshit. If they could get it right "this time" why the living fuck couldn't they get it right in the first place?

Just because it's a fun, popcorn actioner doesn't mean it has to be a pile of steaming wank.

how tall is Arnie? on imdb hes listed as 6ft 2 which is very tall but then you always hear hes shorter than that? i dont like to think the Terminator is anything less than 6ft 2"

Plus, he is upping the ante with the action stars in the cast... how could you not go see this if you are at all interested in the classic action flicks?

I really hope Bruce and Arnold will have larger roles and more importance to the film this time. I liked their scene in the first, but want more this time. Expand on what was hinted at before!

    by quartermass-87

if I wanted Oscar stuff I would go see that. I want lame cheesy old school 80's ish action. I recently watched Cobra which is Sly at his cheesy action hero peak IMO...crazy flick. And also I recently watch Death Wish 3 which was so insanely silly and the dialogue so corny I giggled and enjoyed it to the max so bring on more of this please.

  • ...according to Chuck Zito. On Zito's Sirius radio show Monday night, he says that he had lunch with Sly and Arnold, and they told him that Rourke was no longer part of the film, at which point Zito tried to get Sly to put him in.

Sly was gracious and said "maybe, maybe", but Zito didn't get the call because of possible tension with Van Damme on the set.

Yeah the first was not the classic we all hoped for but I enjoyed it despite the terrible dialogue and non existent chemistry between this supposedly tight knit group.

I hope Simon West is up to the task of delivering a superior sequel. I'm not brimming with confidence since the mechanic was fucking shit. Still, 4x the Arnie is enough to get me there opening day.

I'm a huge fan of his body of work but Expendables squandered its potential. It wasn't half as good as Rambo 4 but had a bigger budget and a cast to die for. I have hope for the sequel though, I really really hope the script and the scope are improved on this outing. I want this to be the movie I didn't get first time round. Then all will be forgiven :)

    Mickey Rourke was fired

    by joeyducci

He wanted too much money for a part that was the same size or maybe even smaller than his part in the first film.

This was reported on Chuck Zito's radio show on Sirius. Zito is a longtime friend of Stallone...he had lunch with Sly and Arnold a couple weeks ago. Stallone told him Rourke was fired when Zito begged for a part in the film.

Rourke is still mentioned in all articles and cast lists for Expendables 2...don't know why. Maybe Stallone and Rourke were in a rough patch of negotiations when he told Zito this....maybe they have worked it out since then.

I'm sure Harry could get the scoop from Stallone or his assistant if he wanted...
