It was pretty clear they haven't made a dent in post production effects yet, but it was nice seeing more interaction between them.
-
Love the interaction between Stark and Rogers, and Stark and Banner. Hulk looks great. Wish that clip of Cap-vs-Thor was actually Hulk-vs-Thor. THAT'S the battle we all want to see! I'm sure it'll be in the movie. I'm glad we didn't get a plot-point-by-plot-point summation of the movie - it does what a trailer should: Whets our appetite without giving TOO much away... A+

It's just playing some shitty French trailer for me...
by belasco_house
Is this a regional thing?

Looks good, likes what I see but god almighty the music sucks!! Put some music in that de Evers a sense of both awe and danger.
by The Founder
-
Is appropriately epic in scale ... love the pithy response of Stark to Cap and Banner. : )
-
RDJr Owns.Enough said.
-
...it will be said. It'll be the perfect Summer popcorn movie for me.
-
It's alright. Nothing to get excited about. They should of shown some Hulk in action instead of at the coda. Still think this project is/was over Joss W's skill set. And he wasn't fired from it, so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt, yet my expectations are very low....I mean we're talking underground low. Sorry, Redbox rental...like Thor.
-
Good gravy was that fun. "...and I'm a huge fan of the way you lose control and turn into an enormous green rage monster."<br> I don't know who makes these musical decisions. They suck. We know they suck. I've learned to ignore it, but yes balls it's annoying.
-
This move needs great special effects, but more than that it needs great character development. Very few movies nail both. I hope this one does.
-
It reminds me of the Rambo trailer with Let the Bodies Hit the Floor playing in the background. This is the Avengers!! Haven't they already started working on the score?? Other than that though, a sufficient teaser trailer. Your move Dark Knight Rises. Your move.
-
F yea, nice simple teaser..didnt care for the music but the tone and pacing is sweet.
-

Everything looks in place but still not sold on Whedon, where is Bay or Cameron? Those guys can do kick ass action and hugeness.
by The Founder
Yeah I said Bay. All you need him to do is shoot the movie. He wouldn't be doing the script. I really really want a an awesome movie.
-
i'm putting my name in whedon's hat. this is gonna be cool
-
Like the shark in Jaws, the anticipation and build-up is more important than the reveal.
-
Yeah I am.
-
Really need to see this, now! Great song choice too!
-
brainy just went spooge
-
She looks great and all but I want to see people with powers doing crazy stuff. Not a babe with a gun. Music lame
-
what I'm seeing so far.
-
But I'm excited as if I was about to lose my virginity again.
-
Like how cap seems all over this, taking on shit too powerful for him to deal with. That said, he sounds kind of peevish when he talks to Stark. Oh, and the music is....I'm not sure yet. Overall, looks good.
-
Oct. 11, 2011, 9:47 a.m. CST
Looks good so far, not a fan of Cap running around without a mask though.
by CCon99
A good actor will make the mask work on screen, the audience isn't going to forget who it is. Stop thinking the viewers are so dim and need their hand held through a 2 hour film.
-
it is going to suck. If it is not rated PG-13, it is not going to suck. But, because it has a strong female role in Black Widow, it is going to suck no matter what. Unless, of course, it is not rated PG-13, then it is not going to suck. Except for the parts with ther strong female lead. THose scenes will suck. Unless those scenes are not rated PG-13. Talkbacker logic. Of course, because the trailer is not unrated redband, the trailer sucks. And it really sucks with the Black Widow scenes. More talkbacker logic. Oh yeah, and the movie is going to be bad, based on this trailer, unless it is good, based on a different trailer we haven't seen yet. And the beat goes on...
-
Impressive spectacle. Popcorn will be popped this May!
-
Yeah, could be good! Might not be. Let's see.
-
Oct. 11, 2011, 9:53 a.m. CST
Yes I will go on. Who the hell picked that music. It really cheapens the mood for the Earth's Mightiest. It really does!
by The Founder
God I hope Marvel reads this and axes it ASAP
-
I'm pumped but yeah whoever chose that music needs to be slapped. But I'm very pumped for this.
-
If things could get me wet then I would have slipped off my seat by now! Really can't wait for this. P.S Stop bitching about the music, for fuck sake who cares what music is attached to an AVENGERS TRAILER!!
-
Oct. 11, 2011, 9:57 a.m. CST
Abrams Star Trek had a good musical score for the trailers. It helps to sell a movie in some cases. Here it with that Generic sounding rock grunge crap it's simply awful.

-
Stupid company not letting me have QuickTime on my computer. I'm feeling a cough coming on...might have to go home early today.

Was there music? I didn't notice with all the ass kickery
by MoneyGrabSequel
Looks way better than I thought it would. I'm in.
-
...and as revenge for the Muppets release date, us Brits get it first!
-
The issue with the music is that it's just too literal of a que. Choosing "We're In This Together Now" makes sense lyrically and thematically but using a 12 year old NIN song loses the grandure which is what they should be selling. Otherwise, not a bad teaser. As always though, it needs more Hulk.
-
That statement says a hell of a lot more about you than it does Jeremy Renner. Some kind of wishful thinking on your part perhaps?
-
fuck all ya
-
Oct. 11, 2011, 10:04 a.m. CST
Anyone catch Loki throwing Tony outta the window? At least they seem to be depicting that Asgardians are stronger then humans.
by The Founder
-
But that was probably the one thing that needed to most effects work. Plus they're probably not trying to give away the money shots in the previews so it makes sense.
-
Was there any doubt they wouldn't? If they didn't a Thor/Hulk showdown would be kinda dull and over quickly.
-
Kinda underwhelmed I hate when I build shit up too much! And what exactly is making those cars blow up?
-
While CHILDREN might like the rock music, any adult, like myself, is going to be PUT THE FUCK OFF BY THIS SHIT! Honestly, when will studios learn. Remember the trailer for SOLDIER? How did that film do?
-
I guess they are holing them in reserve
-
..i just dont.
-
I agree that music can make a trailer better. I think the arrangement of Creep in the Social Network's trailer did an amazing job of selling the feel and tone of the movie. That said, it didn't actually get played in the movie itself, so I don't necessarily care much about this music. Social Network had to sell itself as something more than a FB movie, and the music helped. The Avengers trailer really doesn't have to sell anything but shit blowing up. So I can understand the on-the-nose music even if i don't care for it, and it sure as shit don't effect how I feel about the trailer, which is: GODDAMN
-
Looks like it'll be one hell of a ride! Part of me still can't believe we're actually getting an Avengers movie.
-
That there's so much Hulk chatter in every AVENGERS talkback, when Hulk's movies have been out-grossed by both IM movies, and Cap's and Thor's solo flicks as well. Not that I'm ambivalent about Hulk, but he's definitely number four on my most-anticipated-character to see in THE AVENGERS. I'm much more interested to see the Cap/Iron Man dynamic in this movie. And I love the hint of that in the trailer!
-

by Mugato5150
But the thread is young. I think it looks good and I'm not a huge comic fan.

Besides, it looks like it's gonna be a badass flick. Still don't like Ruffalo as Banner or Johannssen as Widow, but what are you gonna to do?

MAJOR SPOILER as far as who the other villain/aliens are...
by BlaGyver
Really, do not read unless you want it straight spoiled. Comicbookmovie reported recently that they had confirmed that the big bad alien is Thanos. I'm a little off on my cosmic-based Marvel history, but I don't think he's affiliated with the Skrulls. END SPOILERS
-
Going to look the dynamic between team members. That's Whedon at his best right there.
-
going to LOVE the dynamic. LOVE. Not look. Love.
-
FUCK YEAH.THIS LOOKS COOL.
-
Loki? gimme a fucking break. The Thor movie was shit.

Say, how come you can't see Tony's chest piece through his t-shirt?
by rev_skarekroe
In the Iron Man movies it even glows through black shirts.
-
Is it the power of unions?
-
There I said it.
-
I disagree with that statement. I think it works so far. Also I'm pleased to say I'm not worried about the movie based on the music in a teaser trailer, unlike most here... Rock music while heroes bounce around off each other as well as flying, exploding cars/buildings is fine by me! Roll on next year!
-
I was worried that the action scenes wouldn't look epic. That has never been Joss' strength. But it looks intense, and big-budget like it should. You know we'll get some great dialogue and playful banter (as with anything Joss Whedon makes) but it was the other stuff I was worried about. Of course, the overall plot may still be cheese. If they are doing the Skrull war then that could be tricky. An alien invasion movie is what Avengers may turn out to be, and if so, that could be a tough sell as far as keeping it fresh and not getting too campy. I feel confident...for now.
-

A God who can warp reality to suit his purpose...yeah, not threatening at all.
by loafroaster
-
If at all?
-
I find it funny how the fanboys here are up in arms over the thirty seconds or so of music for a teaser. More than likely, the song in question won't be used within the movie. The song, liked by this adult, is by Nine Inch Nails. The same artist who won the Oscar for the soundtrack you guys also ranted about, The Social Network.
-
I hope Whedon really hits this one out of the park. Keeping my fingers crossed...
-
Oct. 11, 2011, 10:29 a.m. CST
Oh please say Jarvis will be like the Team American computer!
by loafroaster
-
This looks decent...and by decent I mean the effects. Whedon can't write dialogue and characters for shit. I'll never forgive him for that abomination of a story that was ALIEN RESURRECTION. I tread cautiously.
-
Oct. 11, 2011, 10:31 a.m. CST
Joss Whedon loves re-using the Buffy character, doesn't he?
by loafroaster
-
The song was We're In This Together, off the Fragile album. Normally not so much a fan of the Marvel movies (formulaic since Daredevil with the exception of the X movies), but I thought the music worked surprisingly well for this teaser.
-
A bit of a double edged sword, isn't it? Don't show enough, and it's hard to sell to the general (non-geek) public to keep the hype level stewing. Show too much, and you end up blowing your wad in trailers by showing all the money shots. I like what Marvel is doing so far. Other than Loki, I haven't a clue who else is going to help him rip apart Earth. Everything in this trailer seemed kine of small scale (still epic, but nothing close to Transformers 3 destruction...at least not yet.)
-
Fucking stupid! It looked like a G.I. Joe meets Transformers knock off for the first half and then it turned into some shitty "Elektra" preview with some random piece of shit song with a poorly structured trailer on the screen. This movie was always going to suck, and this trailer does nothing to make me think differently.
-
It wants to be epic (hell it should be epic, it's the Avengers) but looks anything but... Cheap Ultimate Avengers story full of stupid wisecracking oneliners.
-
I'm by no means a Whedonite; I've never seen a full episode of Buffy, Angel, or Firefly. I will say though that everything i've heard about Alien Resurrection being crappy had less to do with his original take and more to do with how the studio implemented it. I mean, he wrote 5 endings and they used none of them, and many of the plot conceits were studio-driven. Blaming him for Alien Resurrection sucking is like blaming a Head Coach for a poorly thrown ball resulting in an interception. He might have drawn up the play, but the execution was WAY out of his hands.

-
And I'm an adult (just turned 33). Here's the thing: "Let The Bodies Hit The Floor" is fucking terrible; "We're In This Together" is not. And to be fair, the lyrics actually fit. "You and me, we're in this together now, none of them can stop us now, we will make it through somehow." Tony's line about avenging the world makes it seem like the stakes are pretty damn high in this one. I think the song fits perfectly. But what do I know? I'm just an adult.
-
The music sucked fucking donkey balls. The one song that I think could used spectacularly in a trailer, but never is, is Metallica's No Leaf Clover. The song just screams epic trailer to me, with numerous parts that could be used perfectly over a montage for an huge action film like Avengers. Though, it could have also worked well for something like TF: DOTM or even Star Wars Episode III. Tell me you can't see Anakin kicking ass over some of the guitar parts, and some of the scenes with Amidala and so on when the strings come up in the middle, Anakin marching with the Stormtroopers in the part with the bass guitar and bass drums.
-
This movie is the big moment.

And another thing, who the fuck demands that TRAILER music be changed?
by Fawst
Good lord, find a real cause to get behind.
-
Excellent use of the NIN song, but i guess no matter what there's always going to be complaints about something. But definitely suprised at the amount of disagreement over the song being in the trailer. All you haters can go listen to your tween wave music now
-
... is because NIN sucks ass. Fucking terrible.
-
and that is why it sucks. But I do like 9 Inch Nails. If they put an R-rated 9 Inch Nails song on the trailer, then the music wouldn't suck. Good thing they didn't get some empowered woman singer for the trailer. That would really have sucked. Stuff blows up real good in the trailer too, but not epic real good.

Trailer looks great. Everyone bitching about the music is kind of hilarious. If it offends you that much, go jerk off to St.Anger or whatever tween bullshit is out now where sales are based off haircuts. The rest of us...we'll be watching the Avengers, and none of you will be missed.
-
I hope I'm being premature, but this trailer supports my worst fears -- that the film may as well be called 'Iron Man & The Avengers'. Seriously, virtually all of the memorable dialogue from the film is Stark. I know he's the quippy, likeable, stylish one, but seriously, all we get from Thor is a giggle? Nothing from Hawkeye? And then towards the end, Stark gets to say the badass (actually, kinda lame) punchline about 'Avenging' before it cuts to a shot of Iron Man before it says 'The Avengers'? How about a shot of... y'know... THE AVENGERS?
-
(especially the one of him flying over the East River, or the Hudson?) look fantastic.....better than everything in IM2 and on par with the Iron Man/F-16 shots in IM. Pulling off daytime flying scenes seem to be a difficult thing for the animators, and this looks perfect. Fuck the trailer music bullshit, who gives a shit? It's not going to be playing DURING the movie, so where's the harm? And let's be realistic, RDJ is going to carry the movie. Evans is still a bit wooden, Hemsworth won't be asked to do much "acting" and Ruffalo may as well be the Invisible Man in this movie until he turns into the Hulk. Scarlett, Samuel L. and Renner are all just placemats.
-
...does anyone think The Hulk would fuck Black Widow? Would the Hulk, die, because she is a Black Widow. If it isn't rated R, does anyone think The Hulk would make Black Widow give him a hand job -or, being the Hulk, a two-hand job?
-
RIP GibsonUSAreturns
-
Was Nine Inch Nails, "We're In This Together Now". Not saying is was the best choice, but it does hold relevance. and there is actually a good chance that there isn't any music scored for the film yet. that is usually held to the end of the production schedule when the movie is a little further along in the editing. I thought it was pretty appropriate; no less appropriate than how AC/DC somehow became associated with Iron Man and used in the trailers AND films. I thought it was all right; it sold the mood of the teaser well enough. It's just an action teaser; the story trailer will be along later.
-
me want her for christmas

It'll be great to see then unveil longer and better trailers as the months go by. This one definitely whets my appetite! Totally badass. Looking forward to seeing more Hulk.

If you call it out...... offer a suggestion..... so we can say THAT is ass make fun of you. It should have been SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW like in FACE/OFF where that little kid has the headphones on and his face buried in Gina Gershon's tits

This movie is going to take the homosexual community by storm.
by THE_CHOPPAH
It is the next ROCKY HORROR or LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy.
-
And this song from the 90s alt rock God was used purposefully. Even though the song is from a latter day NIN album, it was meant to collectively transport EVERY fanboy back to their teenaged days as they glossed over the new issue of Wizard as they listened to Broken on their Discman and dreamt of the day a comic book film would be done properly and they would be proud to have their parents take them to it. Next year boys....next year.
-
How green are you people? It won't be in the movie. End of line. Move a-fucking-LONG, already. The subject is DEAD.

I can't put my finger on it, but everything that isn't RDJ in this trailer is pretty milquetoast. I'm not feeling this, from this collection of snippets... and nonsensical exploding cars aside, this doesn't look like a roller coaster. I want a fucking rollercoaster.

by schlockthemonkey
Why is there a Paramount logo in the trailer and no Disney mention?
-
That's Nine Inch Nails, WTF are you guys bitching about? Good song, too.
-
...that is what I determined based on my scrutinizing every detail of the teaser. They will not have to share closets. And their clothes are already in them! Just show the Skrulls already...
-
Paramount is the distributor. Amirite?
-
Totally dissappointed! Looks like a trailer for Iron Man 3 featuring those other dudes you may or may not know. Really stupid trailer. Not one shot... NOT ONE gave me goosebumbs, and this is the first comicbook crossover movie ever! Thats not how it is supposed to feel. It looks hollow and empty as fuck. Sure, its just a trailer and as far as I know the movie could still be great but as far as trailers go that was shit. Didn't ove the Dark Knight Rises Teaser either but on that one I had goosebumbs all the way through just because of the feeling it bulit up.
-
that song sucks ass too, but it grew on me after 28 episodes.
-
And that blow job Asian wife number four gave me while I ate the sandwich she made wasn't great either. Sure she took me to the hilt but she didn't go that extra mile and lick my balls while she was down there. And I like spicy mustard on me sammiches. This one just had yellow.
-
I almost SMASHED my laptop the first time I saw the trailer - thought they had left the Hulk out. Thankfully I was mistaken =P Think he looks pretty good - if that nanosecond clip of the Hulk is anything to go by, he looks better than both previous incarnations in terms of the realism of the CGI. Good stuff!!! Hoping to finally see some of that unlimited strength from the comics and cartoons in action on the big screen =P

How did that movie turn out??? Oh yeah...fucking awesome. Movie Trailer music didn't make a fucking difference in the final product.
-
There's inconsistency in the cinemaphotography and the lighting, etc. I'm sure it will tighten up once they color-correct etc. The Heli-carrier scenes looked a little cramped. But, seems like the cast has a good chemistry and that will go a long way.
-
Part 2.
-
(hey I'm Black. Don't fault me for wanting to see us represented too) it looks good thus far. Can't wait to see it.
-
Whedon's "cute n' girly" smart-ass dialog, where grown men talk like high school girls arguing about who is, like, cuter between Justin Beiber and Justin Timberlake? Check. TV production values? Check. The non-powered people getting all the love? Check. A guy with a -try saying this out loud- fucking BOW AND ARROW fighting against aliens w/laser cannons? Check. Captain America clowned again and again? Check. Brought to you by the sensibilities of Joss Whedon, children. Why you hand your flagship franchise to a guy with a proven history of flops is beyond me. This is the end of the Hollywood/Comics love affair. It can't come soon enough either. This shit is so lame.
-
That's Nine Inch Nails music for an Avengers movie! What more could you ask for? You need sweeping orchestra music in the background just to be able to like a trailer? Or maybe you prefer some Bieber? Nine Inch freakin Nails!!! Damn you bitching nerds can be so sad.

But because the trailer clearly is trying to mask that it sucks by showing an entire slew of explosions and RDJ doing his thing hoping we won't notice that there's really nothing to it at all. Too many characters was always going to be a problem with this movie, and the trailer makes me think they didn't figure it out. But why would they? Make a great film, it makes a shit ton of money, make a shitty film, it makes a shit ton of money. No incentive to make a great film. Look at The Pirates sequels, they sucked and still are getting made even though Jack fucking Sparrow got stale like five years ago. The trailer just isn't any fun at all. Again, it looks like the "Elektra" trailer. Dogshit, smell it a year away. I hope I'm wrong, but I know I'm not. And for those of you who said this trailer was "Awesome," go back and watch the first full trailer to "The Dark Knight," THAT was an awesome trailer. THIS one is not.
-
Same with Thor on his helmet too, right? I don't think Thor or Cap will be wearing too much 'helmet' in this. And from the shots of Loki, I guess him too. Looks like Hawkeye's 'shades/mask' is out. IronMan continues to wear his helmet because he is a rebel..haha Watch, Hulk will be bald or some shit.... WEAR YOUR DAMN HELMETS/MASKS!!!

Last time I checked, Nick Fury (in this movie) was black....

that I'm not the only one who doesn't like the music. It doesn't fit the trailer at all. We need something epic, not Filter! Looks good, hope they don't make it all about one superhero, and let the others be supporting actors...

Do people realize that this is a TEASER trailer and that they are still working on the f/x. "We're in this together" by NIN works for this teaser trailer. I guess some people wanted more AC/DC. My only gripe is that Ruffalo looks to be the weakest link in this movie. Hopefully, there will be more Hulk and less Bruce Banner.

Choppah, one out seven isn't much representation. And Fury's more of an advisor than a superhero. I'd love to see Black Panther too, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor of course.

sound more pathetic than ever.
-
I'm trying and failing to see the point of the Black Widow character at all. I mean, the banter was cute enough in IM2, but she's not very interesting. On top of that, as much as I appreciate Scarlett, she doesn't exactly exude predatory spider don't-fuck-with-me charisma. More like Garden Spider than Black Widow. I assume she's not an integral part of the group, and that the only reason she's here in this flick is that were she not included, fanboys would whine and bitch?

Well, advising with a rocket launcher seems enough to represent to me.... I suppose you want another woman on the team too, because that's only one out of seven as well??? ......... haha, just joking man... I do like Panther as well, but I think this movie is just about to overload on heroes at this point. I'd love to see Antman and Panther get in on this, but maybe a sequel, when they can get close to a conclusion of the current storyline and maybe split off into three different storylines ala Lord of the Rings.

fuck yes.

If he actually has protection in that thing, like think plates of adamantium or something, i dont even care if he wears it in combat.

NOT important. Move on please. Same goes for Thor.
-
I don't know what's going on with movies anymore...they say they cost 5 trillion dollars to make and I go see Captain America and its Hi Def video..still liked the movie but nothing feels epic anymore, Thor was fun but pretty low budget looking. Everything seems to be catered to overseas audiences and bluray turnaround. Was watching Raiders recently and that was relatively low budget for the time and the type of movie but its shot amazingly...
-
These marvel movies all look and sound the same, and that just takes the excitement away for me. Not sure if I'll pay to see this in the theatre, but it's a nice trailer for what appears to be another nice, safe, production-line movie set in the marvel universe.

I agree that Scarlett is somewhat miscast as a somewhat world-weary deadly assassin type. But i understand and accept the reasoning behind the casting.

Not the movie makers.
-
for a Consultant, Iron Man sure is the main focus of this...I understand how Nick Fury has more to do but idk... The Philanthropist line is the best part of this and I love Captain America. Really it looks like a bunch of fun, whereas Rises already looks to be dark, maybe a little depressing, and full of stress...totally different films...which is really for the better. Comparing Iron Man to Dark Knight is ridiculous considering one is serious and the other was mindless and both were great. I'm excited for both of these films, probably Rises a little more, only cuz Batman will always be my favorite, but no matter what side you're on, you're a fool for think one will be good and one bad

Nine Inch Nails is one person, Trent Reznor. The only time it's a 'they,' is when he tours with his live band... (nerd rant, over). Yeah, the music was perfectly appropriate for this teaser ... this wasn't Linkin Park or fucking Godsmack- it's NIN, for fuck sakes!
-
I dont really care if it looks cartoony and fake...you've got a flying suit, a supercool shield, a magical God hammer, an alien bad guy...who cares if it's not ultra realistic looking? Just get the acting right (Norton was great), and the movie will be fine

I really that she only has a few lines... We want the main cast, not her.
-
The reason it looks cheap is because Joss Whedon is a hacky TV guy and Steven Spielberg is a tremendously talented film maker. I stopped on "Jaws", which was on cable in HD on Encore the other night and was sucked in instantly. It's just different - this be apples and oranges. One makes TV shows that get cancelled and cheap-looking films that bomb, the other is an Academy Award-winning genius who has changed American cinema. Of course Avengers looks cheap compared to Raiders. Comparing Whedon to Spielberg is like wondering why a girls softball little league team doesn't look as sharp on the field as the NY Yankees.
-
Yeah, it's hard to say exactly why Favreau and company went with the Black Widow - she's not exactly at the top of "Favorite Female Avengers" or "Most Famous Female Avengers" lists. Wasp and Scarlet Witch would be ahead of the Widow on my list.

And agree with it. It is just the character choice of widow that bugs me. There are way better characters in Marvels stable to fill out the Avengers that are more in line with the teams history. That said Scarlett is for sure a male crowd pleaser. No denying that. I just feel that she is gonna be underused in this movie in that capacity.

I'm sorry but those scenes look AMAZING. Actual cars exploding... Love it. I get that the self loathing types here have to not like this... But since I love my life and don't have my head stuck up my ass I can be real... That trailer looked great. Hulk graphics looked really good as did Iron Man. But man those shots from Cleveland looked amazing I'm very impressed. Can't wait for this. Just to be clear I actually liked the TDKR teaser... It just felt off up until that epic ending of Batman backing away from Bane. This teaser though is about a billion times better.

What a waste of time, effort and money. Then again, judging by your posts, maybe with you they ran out of "give a fuck" by the time you were born and gave up on you. Whaaa!!! Stupid Yank)
-
Cap respects Tony's brilliance and that he tries to be better than a womanizing drunkard through using that brilliance to save the world and he sees Thor as honorable and trustworthy but also a bit haughty and prideful being a god. Tony respects Cap b/c well, he's Cap but he sees him as WAY too boyscout and he just doesn't know hot to relate to Thor but can respect the brute power he brings and his nobility. Thor respects Cap b/c well, he's Cap but doesn't like how Cap cant hold back sometimes and actually seems to think himself Thor's (a god) better. With Tony Thor just sees him as a vain, silly man without an Asgardian's idea of honor but at the same time sees in him the makings of a good friend.

My comment didn't post, so I did another, then they both showed up. Oh well. I wonder how long until we get some light shed on the villain threat aside of Loki. It's gotta be something huge because Thor himself took care of Loki, so the Avengers would squelch him easily. Hmmmm....

In the meantime, here is what Garth has to say about this film over at Dark Horizons. Reminder: Garth did report Ego clashes on the set, budget chaos, stolen script, expanded role for RDJ due to ego, etc. "It's an odd trailer in my opinion - the initial shots before any of the cast appears is very "Transformers"-esque with exploding cars, lots of military personnel firing guns in streets, and so on. When they do appear Downey gets a few choice lines, and there's a bit of action for each character, but it's still kept pretty simple. The choice of a great Nine Inch Nails song from 1999 on the other hand simply feels awkward and out of place, hopefully something more suitable will be used for the next one. This should yield some interesting and divisive reaction:
-
...endure this shit - exploding caaaars? Come ooooon, what is this, Independence Day 2012?!? Boooooring! Cap still sucks. Hulk too.
-
...I may take take a very controversial stance in this day and age and reserve my final judgement until I HAVE SEEN THE FINISHED FILM.

What type of non-score music would you NIN haters choose for a trailer like this? Also, what type of bands/artists/music do you guys listen to? Because I personally loved the choice of NIN in this trailer. Here's a quick list of bands I listen to on a daily basis: Nine Inch Nails, Mastodon, Radiohead, Lamb of God, Opeth, Coldplay (Yes, I said Coldplay. Kiss my butt.), and Porcupine Tree. I'd like to read your musical interests/suggestions.

How any self respecting card carrying geek can't get even a little excited by this is beyond me. I was a kid in the 70's and the thought of seeing Cap, Thor and Iron Mn in the same movie would have drove me crazy. Especially as all we had at the time was that awful Spider-Man tv series, The Incredible Hulk, and that godawful Captain America tv movie.
-
Nu-metal and that annoying fade-in and out you usually see in horror trailers.
-
In one shot from the back you can see that the costume has a hood hanging behind his neck. Then there are two shots where he is wearing the hood- when Cap is jumping over a car and when Thor is falling down towards him. You can also see that there are wings on the sides of the hood. So before people start bitching about stuff maybe they should- you know- open the their eyes.
-
nice touch.
-
Seriously, the hating of this trailer because of the music is the new Brian Cox joke, right? Sweet lord, this trailer was light years better than what I expected. I didn't get a chance to see the Cap movie yet, but I am fully on board after seeing this and the other Avenger's movies.

which is obvious just by the time alloted. But! The Iron Man CGI is light years beyond 2008! This is going to be one for the ages.

I was really hoping for an "Avengers Assemble" line by Cap. at the very end of the trailer...guess not.
-
Super-hero's were a neat idea in the 20th century paralleling the rise and settlement of industrial society amongst humans, they provided a mythical counterpoint to the humdrum lives we all live. By now the myth is completely worn out, threadbare and completely uninspiring. We are living a world feverishly recycling the same thing over and over and over. The is nothing original or fresh or new these days, nothing. What could more boring and predicatable than Samuel Jackson spouting some nonsense, posturing as some cool mofo, laying it down? Sorry, it's true and you all know it. Please, try and do better than call me a hater, try and see something lame for what is - that would be cool.
-
There is one shot where you can see "the glow" through his shirt. Possibly all of the visual effects are not done yet.
-
Obvi!
-
Someone asked if that is Dr. Strange's house on the right, in the middle of the trailer when Iron Man is flying through the city. It might be. He often has a house that has a steeple like a church. Then again, it could be just a church. There is an "S" on the side of the building in the trailer. My guess is, if it is Dr. Strage's house, the film makers just put that in there for fun and we won't obviously see Dr. Strange in this movie. I think I read that Marvel hopes to do a Dr. Strange movie at some point, which could be cool. We'll see.
-
Seems like it keeps getting mined for Trailers too. 300, Terminator Salvation, and Unbreakable.
-
If you can't even fucking type the word "Superheroes" properly, you're a goddamned idiot and thus, your opinion is useless. Brian Cox would be ashamed.
-
Speaking of seeing something lame for what it is, you should take yourself, your nonsense about the super-hero era being over, and your super-hero derived handle out of here. That would be cool.
-
I guess we can see if someone from Cleveland can verify if that church/steeple building is actually there or not. Then we'd know if it was put in the movie post effects.

Nine Inch Nails' 'The Fragile' is an especial favorite album of mine. Plus it looks like Whedon didn't write crappy dialogue for once. Plus, it is new, as has been mentioned when has there been five movies converging into one, and the majority of the other movies were actually pretty damn good?
-
which I just watched again last night.
-
I don't understand why Scar-Jo was chosen to play this part. There are a helluva lot more sexy actresses that would fit the role better. Also a shame Tom Cruise bailed on Iron Man. He would have made for a better Stark imo. P.S. - Whedon sucks balls.
-
...it still looks good.
-
I dunno, I think Downey was perfectly cast. And Downey wasn't a huge actor at the time, so it's not like they were just trying to go with a big name. They wanted the right actor for the part, somebody with untapped charisma.
-
Oct. 11, 2011, 3:07 p.m. CST
I think Tebow starting in Denver is better news than this piece of shit trailer.
by LowDevil
-
RDJ has played him perfectly. I don't remember Cruise being involved in any pre Ironman casting calls. It's hard to think of who would have made a good Tony Stark now that Downey Jr has already encompassed it in now, his third full movie donning the suit/playboy. However, I DO KNOW that I'm still not cool with Ruffalo being Banner. I'm still sick over that Norton falling out crap. He was perfect and already born into the continuity. Maybe they can have majority HULK and minority Banner? Then I'd be happy. Heck, The Avengers cartoon has him as HULK the entire time.
-
It was well known for a long time Cruise was interested in portraying Stark and producing Iron Man. Stark in some of the comics even has an uncanny resemblance to Cruise.
-
Sorry I don't see Tony Stark.

Actually, Downey made Stark a better character than in the comics
by Mattman
He enhanced every element of Stark. He seemed to really understand the character while layering Stark with his own charisma. Cruise might have worked fine, but I doubt he would have made nearly the impact Downey did. Downey elevated that movie beyond a standard superhero origin tale. His performance appealed to more than just a few comic book nerds who complain Tony was drinking the wrong brand of scotch.

by JediRob
the traffic flow is incorrect and must be CG, but that is definitely Nyc.
-
This movie must deliver a credible and compelling threat or it doesn't matter how good the character work turns out to be. Since villains are typically the weakness of these superhero flicks, it's a legit concern. The only ones that have gotten it right IMO are Superman II and Nolan's Bat flicks.
-
I hate to say it. Great cast, awesome director, shitty trailer. Everything about it screams connect the dots comic book movie and just follows the same path of what one would expect out of Hollywood. There was nothing in that trailer that got me excited about the movie the way The Dark Knight did or even the Captain America movie. Speaking of Cap, WTF on every fucking shot of him in battle without the mask? Really? They need to go back and re-shoot those scenes. If Chris Evans has a problem wearing the mask too fucking bad. Captain America wears a goddamn mask.

Jane? Thor said he would be going back to Earth to see her. Portman is not in the credits. Does the movie start with Thor finally returning, but sidetracked and forced to search for her put aside? The whole fact that they made Thor into kind of a love story has put repurcussions on future installments. We don't want Thor in love. We want Thor fighting evil, but now they must explain Jane into his stories. Rhodes? He already is War Machine now. Wouldn't it make sense that he would always be helping Tony out, especially from an attack like this? How can he sit back and not get in on this? Cheadle is not in the credits.
-
he was perfect as banner
-
I think the love story thing is supposed to be continued in Thor 2. Not sure how Thor gets back in this one, or if it takes place after Thor 2 and he's just back without explanation yet (afterall, the last few Marvel movies have been chronologically out of order... with Incredible Hulk taking place AFTER Iron Man 2.) As for Rhodes, I think they were afraid the cast was just getting too big. And I would guess he's gonna be in IM3.

Loos good to me! Great teaser. I'm eagerly looking forward to this movie!

Effects aren't done so that's part of it. And the song is fine. 99.99999% of the people who see this trailer won't even notice the song. Yes, AICN talkback nerds, you are the .00001% minority. Plus you could even say the lyrics of the chorus go with the theme of the movie. So I don't see the fucking problem here.

I think the film will be terrific, but the trailer was lame. It needed to be more grand. It started well with the huge explosions, but then the cheesy Tony Stark lines kind of sold it all a little short. They needed to knock this one out of the park and instead it fell flat. Better luck with the next one, I guess.

Cap is a square, IM is a smartass and Thor finds them both hilarious with jolly viking laughter. That is how you write a scene for the Avengers. I don't know what else you want from an Avengers teaser? Thank god they don't spoil the best moments and money shots. Yes, it's a little Tony heavy, but if you bring in the most cash, you get the best lines. That's how the world is.
-
So many visual cliches, all blending together into a mush. Even expensive cmcbkmovs are now just collection of tropes like old musicals.

The other Marvel films were shot on 2.35:1. I wonder why they switched this movie over to 1.78:1? In the end, it won't bother with my movie experience. I'll still enjoy it. It must be directors preference. Whedon has a larger ration of TV instead of film, which he's used to 16:9HD.
-
I guess they do the Fade in Fade out thing during the build up part of trailers because they don't have enough footage ready. They do it to stretch out and put a bigger emphasis on the shots that they have. You work with what you have.
-
I fucking loved Captain America. Still, to this day, I am apeshit for Johnston's Captain America. It is a movie that I hope for every summer, but I never quite get what I want. Cap delivered. Thor delivered too. Fine, fun film with a great lead in Hemsworth (perfectly cast) and Portman was actually good. It was great to see Ol' Shellhead again too. Now, I fucking despised the shit pile that was Iron Man 2, but the first is one of my favorite movies, and if anyone can right the ship Favs almost sunk it is most certainly the great Shane Black. What the fuck is up with Favs, anyway? Cowboys and Aliens sucked too. Anyhoo, Whedon's Avengers looks like it is going to kick all kinds of ass, and it is exactly the kind of thing I wanted to see since I was 10 years old! I can't wait to see the Skrulls, and Ruffalo is going to be great as Banner/Hulk. Anyone who doesn't understand that this has serious potential to kick all kinds of ass really doesn't get movies. Despite the shittier Marvel flicks like Daredevil, FF, and their inability to produce a truly crowd pleasing Hulk, I appreciate how Marvel goes about their business. Unlike Warners that seems intent on reinventing the wheel with every super hero movie they make, thus fracturing a universe that could include Batman, Superman, et al, Marvel just wants to tell you a good story about these characters we all know so well. They really seem to be making the films how they want them to be without worrying about what the demographics say, because they already know their characters rock. As an example, I am increasingly concerned that Superman is going to be terrible, and not just because of Snyder. As awesome as Grant Morrison is, the current comics don't ring true to me as Superman. Not the Superman I've known all my life, anyway. Even though Amazing Spider-Man looks exactly like the kind of shit I'm talking about (have you noticed that no one is buzzing about that crap anymore), that's more Sony's doing than Marvel's. I still firmly believe that if Marvel obtained the film rights to Spidey, the first person they'd talk to is Raimi.
-
@ lamerz: Well, that's a matter of opinion. I like them...you don't. That's cool. There's a LOT of music that I think is crap... I just don't wish to waste my time or others going "blah blah band sucks".
-
how many times have we seen a line of cars blowing up in unison.. this looks like garbage, it looks like a series of action scenes and in between will be downey trying to hold up the film with some comic relief... I hope im wrong, but this is shitty trailer, looks like nothing more than another crappy action film

Emily Blunt was originally cast to play the Widow (and she wanted to). I believe the deal was that she was contractually bound to that stupid ass Jack Black Gulliver movie at the same time Iron Man 2 was filming, and just couldn't do both. Sadly it's our loss...as I believe she would've been fantastic. That, and the loss of Norton are the two things that dampen this experience for me. Will still be there on opening day due to all the other good stuff involved though!
-
Yes, I understand that you said Bay should direct and not write, but you do realize that he constantly dictates things to go in his movies, right? There was that whole thing about how the wing suit sequence was in Transformers 3 simply because he saw them in a 60 Minutes segment and demanded the screenwriters force them into the script. Bay definitely leaves his fingerprints all over his films in more ways than just their visual appearance,--e.g., unfunny comic relief, offensive stereotypes, incoherent storytelling--and I don't want those fingerprints coming anywhere near a movie I'm actually interested in seeing.
-
I miss Eric Bana as Bruce Banner.
-
Doesn't look all that great.
-
Our loss indeed.
-
So you go to the trouble of making 5 movies to lead up to the Avengers, but you cannot secure Edward Norton? Norton is a huge comic book fan. He's what made Incredible Hulk work, we all liked him, we all felt for him. I almost wish Avengers only had Hulk and no Banner in it now.
-
probably loved the Green Lantern trailer. We're getting an Avengers movie, people. Unless you were 13 when the Tobey Spider-Man came out, and therefore spoiled by the glut of modern super-hero films, then you have no business complaining. Especially about a teaser trailer.
-
we'll see how this turns out
-
Only two comic book movies I'm looking forward to because the directors actually seem to get it. Still on the fence with Man of Steel.
-
We're not getting an edit button, are we?

And I still say the Pyms belong in this film.
-
I just watched this trailer on a thirteen-inch Dell monitor. Judging by the aspect ratio, color timing, and a bunch of other horseshit that I heard mentioned in a DVD commentary one time, I have decided that this film is homosexual - because calling things homosexual makes me giggle and because I want to get noticed by the Big Talk-Backers on this site. I will, however, go see it at the theater opening day and talk on my cell phone through the whole fucking thing.

What's with all these cunts calling the music 'generic rock grunge'and shit how fucking old are you, 9?!!! Ever heard of The Fragile?!!!!!!! In context, this song is cool and it's NOT FUCKING GRUNGE!! They also used a track off it for the 300 trailer. Who gives a shit what music they use anyway, it's always cut up and edited to hell. This confirms my suspicion that the music taste of the generation behind me really is shithouse and it's not just me getting older. It would probably freak you out to know that when NIN started, there was no internet in your house either. And there were VCRs, and cassette tapes.

I was really jazzed for that idea I always had as a kid - that they'd use all the actors from each movie in a super team movie - to finally come true, but alas things went south with Ed Norton. Nothing against Mark Ruffalo, I'm sure he'll be fine, but it's a bummer that the continuity, at least in the sense of the actors portraying each character, has already fallen through. Other than that, this looks freaking amazing and I cannot wait.

"If this fails, we can be done with superhreo films." Hate to break it to you, but superhero films are not a trend. They are a genre. Comic books are a medium. So films based on comics are just as legit as based on novels, tv shows, or other media. So this ignorant rant that 'there's too many superhero films. I'm sick of superhero films. Waaaa' can suck it. You might as well say I'm sick of romcoms, I'm sick of space movies, I'm sick of sci-fi, I'm sick of spy films, I'm sick of horror films.

The Weakest Moment In The Trailer Is To Be Found At 0:15-0:16...
by MakNeil
with overweight Army guy holding his M-16 assault rifle as if what he's aiming at is either really small or far away. Other than that, Marvel is going to pull in shite-loads of money with this.
-
Norton might make the better David Banner by a small margin but overall Ruffalo is a big improvement...plus you don't have to deal with Norton's pissy on-set behavior
-
The trailer isn't really doing it for me. Doesn't have that 'can't wait to see it' vibe like THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. This looks like it's gonna be on the level of THOR. Okay, but instantly forgettable.
-
...have to resist the temptation to watch this over and over again to dissect every little detail and make myself sick of it in the process. I really like what I see so far. Nice to see an ILM-rendered Hulk again, if only for a fraction of a second. I'm curious about the Paramount logo too; I thought this was officially Disney's baby by now...
-
her ass even looks big in one shot!
-
It's hilarious that some people here claim the superhero genre is dead... after a lowbrow hero like Thor grossed $450 million this year.
-
Should be a great summer next year. Not expecting much from Spidey, but maybe that'll turn out to be a pleasant surprise. Who knows.
-
That was the absolute biggest risk of this entire production because until now the only thing ever to hit the theater that he directed was Serenity....and that wasn't directed very well. Prior to Serenity, the only thing to ever hit theaters with his name associated was Alien: Resurrection and Buffy the Vampire Slayer (staring Pee Wee Fucking Herman). Not good. But this looks pretty good. A couple too many up-angled shots which unfortunately reminds me of Battlefield Earth, but hopefully it just turned out that way in the trailer and the film is pretty normal looking. Nothing wrong with dynamic shots as long as they aren't confusing or make you woozy. Too many in a row causes both. I like Thor's costume and longer hair. He still has the potential to be the goofiest character so I hope it works out. And where the FUCK is Ant-Man goddamnit!?

and of course he is not physically threatening or imposting in the least; but he was ten steps ahead of everyone in Thor, and I'll be Whedon's script has Tony Stark puffing to keep up with the God of Mischief. People forget that the Joker in 'Dark Knight' was a puny little psychotic, and not Bane.

Cautiously optimistic still because I find that Joss Whedon sucks. But hey, McG learned how to make a real movie after making bullshit so it's possible. Then again, that might not be the best example, McG is attached to all kinds of TV gold and Whedon's TV work is lame.

Why all the Black Widow hate? And when is a woman packing some back a bad thing? Though, like anything else, you can have too much of a good thing, though that doesn't apply in her case. Scarlett Johansson is gorgeous, and curvy, like a woman should be as opposed to the waif-like models with barely any sign of breasts or arses.
-
He's awesome, but he's a notorious pain-in-the-ass on set, and his self rewrites wouldn't fly with Whedon or the team dynamic. he he hadn't quit/been fired before, he would have at some point in production. Ii don't care. Seriously, who cares about Bruce Banner, really? Also I like Scarlet, she's just a little shorter than I imagined Widow, too bad Favreau nixed her accent because she can definitely do Russian, and she has a very Eastern European look to her. I'm thoroughly excited, I see starts continuing to align in favor of this being something truly special, and the time has come for Joss Whedon to take his rightful place with the heavy hitters.
-
Thanos would make a VERY unexpected yet cool choice, as he is one of the Dark Godlike "bad guys" of the Marvel Universe--think Darkseid if you are a DC fan. Easy to want to see, but difficult to pull off. That said, with the state of CGI these days, he'd be no more difficult than the Skrulls or the Frost Giants from Thor. And since these types of movies are dependent upon the villain being a credible threat, you cant go much bigger than Thanos. Interestingly, Odin DOES have The Infinity Gauntlet in his Weapons vault that is Guarded by the Destroyer (though we dont see it in the movie), and Thanos has acquired it on more than one occasion to take control of the universe. The six soul gems it holds are the essence of "God" split into 6 parts. Time will tell http://www.dailyblam.com/news/2011/05/08/thor-movie-concept-art-reveals-cosmic-weapons-from-odins-vault

This talk back is just like the movie, a bunch of witty and wittier people bickering back and forth and in the end they agree to what they love most. I know a beautiful girl is taking me to see this so I don't have to pay one way or another. If they mess it up, here are the Nextwave (pun) of movies: ReAvengers (Like Re-do like Hulk). Avengers: First Class (Before Stark had facial hair). Avengers Origins: Iron-Man (with younger protagonist to capitalize on the kids), West Coast Avengers (word), Inhumans (all wearing business suits because apparently super hero costumes are lame) Runaways (younger, cooler, wittier) , X-Factor (The lesser Mutants) , Gen X (B-Class), New X-Men (Like super new ones), SHIELD (No budget needed), Marvel Knights (Could be rated R?), Young Avengers (Just because you need to know them more). So yeah, even if this spells DOOM, there will be more. And more.

Granted, I'm a DC guy and, even then, I mostly just read Batman stuff, so I'm NOT a comic book expert by any stretch of the imagination. However, I've seen the Marvel films and know what Marvel is trying to do and, particularly having seen this trailer - which isn't bad, imo, but underwhelming - I think I understand what's going on with the hiring of Whedon. This might offend some people, but I think Marvel's reasoning in hiring Whedon to both direct and, evidently, to rewrite the script is to continue keeping their films relatively inexpensive, if not outright cheap - at least compared to the average production costs of these types of films - AND - to simultaneously throw off the most obvious fanbase so as to at least keep their optimism and excitment up with the involvement of someone known for appealing to the same and generally picky audience. I've only seen a little bit of Whedon's work, but besides the Firefly movie, which bombed, I don't know what other big screen film he's directed - even on the indie level - if any. He's had a LOT of deals on projects that didn't go through, I think, most notably Wonder Woman, but my observation above comes also due to the fact that his hiring seemed a bit sudden and, in terms of a director that is both a potential fan-favorite and could make a decent product, he was probably one of a very small handful of choices once Iron Man's Jon Favreau declined to direct. I don't fault Marvel with wanting to keep the cost down. I think the cost of movies gets WAY too high nowadays, especially since so many high-paid stars seem to love coming out and slamming the rest of the country for embracing the capitalist system that facilitates their lifestyle. Plus, superhero films generally tend to do better when the heroes, themselves, are not played by big-name stars - Iron Man's Robert Downey, Jr. being a notable exception. In this case, though, given the material, its origins and the massive impact Stan Lee had not only on these characters and their creation (most of them, anyhow), but on comics, in general, I kind of wish it was all being treated with just a bit more reverence toward overall quality. I didn't really think Edward Norton was a BETER Banner/Hulk than Eric Bana, but I did applaud his casting because I felt it represented a respect for the material without doing what Ang Lee arguably tried to do, which was get around its pulp appeal in order to cloak it in a more artsy, semi-pretentious sensibility that just misses what the Hulk is all about for those that love his stories. In conclusion, consider how quickly this all came about. This is really Marvel's second successful string of hits in theaters, but the first started way back in 2000 with X-MEN - arguably before that with BLADE in 1998 - and didn't even begin to seriously wane until X3 in2006 and fade out with Spider-Man 3 in 2007. That's eight years of serious filmmaking with Marvel's characters that just seems to have been shucked after the success of Iron Man which, though good, seemed only to prove that they could exploit their properties far cheaper and still make a quick and hefty buck. I'm a firm capitalist, so that point doesn't bother me much, either. However, as indicated by some of the comments on this and other talkbacks, it's likely to backfire on them, maybe even before Iron Man 3 comes out in two years.

Re: =is to continue keeping their films relatively inexpensive=
by MakNeil
What does that mean? If I recall The Avengers is costing somewhere in the $230 million dollar ballpark, hardly what I could call cheap. Keep in mind that The Lone Ranger came in around $250 million dollars, and Universal cancelled that before Gore Verbinski and Johnny Depp reined in costs. Making movies is a business like any other, and the more successful businesses tend to be those that keep their production costs in line with reality. Marvel keeps a tight grip on the purse strings, which makes perfect sense. And in reference to a lot cars blowing up, so what? I hate to say this, but I get the feeling that there aren't any new and interesting ways to destroy inanimate objects that we haven't seen. That being said, what I am more interested in seeing is what caused the explosions, more so than the explosions themselves.
-
Well, Scarlet Johannsen in tight black leather makes my penis hard ... but the movie looks pretty damn tight. Very much looking for it.

At the end of Thor, Loki was sent thousands of years into the past and through space to a distant world far from the nine realms. On this primitive planet, Loki made himself the absolute God/ruler. He taught the primitive aliens Asgardian technology, and amassed a huge planet-sized army that worship and obey his every command. Finally, one day in 1944, another being passes through the portal into this world - the Red Skull! Interrogating the Skull, Loki learns of the cosmic cube, which of course belonged to Odin originally. Tracing the Skull's trajectory back to Earth, Loki is able to travel back to where the Skull came from - right over the Atlantic ocean. Now that he's here, Loki intends to take the cosmic cube and use it to bring his whole army here - first to conquer Earth, then Asgard and the rest of the universe...

big whedon fan but i hope he doesn't screw this up like he did Serenity. I'm worried he's a small screen not a big screen guy. Iron Man was okay but 2 was horrible.

I gotta admit I'm underwhelmed by that trailer. The main thing I fear is that I'm going to end up hating this movie because Whedon will ruin it with his snarky/sarcastic humor that seems to take up every other line of dialogue in anything I've seen by him. Loki can indeed be dangerous. He's a master wizard and he if dicpicted properly in the film he should have a decent level of invulnerability and super strength. He is a god. If the threat is so dire, the film should have on some level a martial tone. The tone is the key and the biggest question mark.

This trailer is extremely paint-by-numbers. It's like they dropped a bunch of clips into an Apple movie trailer template.
by Margot Tenenbaum
The "voice over during a sweeping shot of a major city with police sirens going off in the background" is the "In a world..." cliché of this decade's trailers. The cars exploding from below look exactly like movie special effects. I completely bought Captain America's costume in his own movie but here both he and Thor look pretty plastic & power-rangerish to me. I love RDJ's Tony Stark, Chris Evans' Cap and Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury. Almost everything else about this seems sort of dodgy to me.
-
Wow... I just made myself a meganerd. But really, this kinda movie lends itself to scope, and ALL the other movies were scope. The last major superhero movies to be non-scope were Hulk and Spider-Man, and Hulk made sense with the editing of that film, and Spidey, it worked. But Avengers should be fucking 65mm and IMAX stock a la Chris Nolan's recent work.
-
The subject of NIN sucking hairy dog sack is more interesting than the rest of the contents of this trailer. I'm getting a Fantastic 4 vibe here!
-
have you forgotten, Iron Man from Iron Man?
-
If we can't protect _____ you can damn sure we'll Avenge it
-
I figure, looking at Loki's first appearance in the trailer, that he used his astral form to influence Selvig to build a primative version of the Bifrost to pull him out of the space around Asgard. Maybe that's used to get Thor when they realise that it's Loki causing all the ruckus. ( or maybe the bifrost has been rebult and heimdall gets namechecked as spotting loki on earth) as for johanssen's one fight move, maybe the stuntmen have got it into their contracts that it's the only one she knows....well, scarlett will put her thighs either side of your neck so her minge is mere inches away from your nose.....
-
about the music?!...in a trailer yet? It's the fucking AVENGERS...in LIVE ACTION!!! Aye, verily, you shame yourselves as the fucking trolls you are!
-
Whedon's forte is character interaction. Even more than the good vs evil conflict, it's how the heroes interact with one another....which is why Avengers will rock. A story based off of Ultimates with Whedon's interactions....if you think that is a bad call then you SUCK.
-
"You were made to be ruled, in the end it will be every man for himself" Wait, I thought we were made to be ruled (Totalitarianism, Monarchy, Dictatorship) in the end it will be every man for himself (Anarchy, Chaos, Scavengers)...Wow. This is good writing? "What do we do now?", 'We get ready'. Wait, didn't they get ready years ago with all those Marvel Movie tie ins? Oh yes, and that Avenge line...yuck. "Yeah like if we can't save The World Trade Center like, we'll damn sure Avenge it and stuff". We've seen stupid logic like that, and it's just dumb.
-
I was trying to stay fresh on this and didn't watch the video, but the whole Apple trailers site is now decked-out in AVENGERS wallpaper, so that was that. They're obviously marketing it as a Downey Jr. vehicle, almost IRON MAN III, which isn't surprising. This is sacrilegious, but I would have shined The Hulk for this first AVENGERS movie. He'll be the only fully CG main character who's being played for yucks and, I dunno, whenever he's needed he'll keep getting angry? Hulk shifts AVENGERS into Marvel's X-MEN territory. Some shots of Nick Fury really look great. The trailer's rock music does feel like a lame attempt at being hip. As mentioned above, shooting digital in HDTV aspect ratio makes things look a bit TV-scale. I still have high hopes for this and will definitely be checking it out, if only for more of the Downey Jr./Evans/Hemsworth chemistry teased at in the clip.

I just realized that we're near the end of the superhero movie popularity.
by NeonFrisbee
If this trailer came out, say, 5 years ago, everyone would have been SO excited. Now, it just looks like "another superhero movie." This will open big, and probably make a lot of money, but it won't be a mega-blockbuster. Dark Knight Rises will probably be the big winner this summer, but I doubt whether it will do as well (or be as good) as TDK. Further, I have the sinking feeling that when Superman creaks it's way into theaters in 2013, that people won't really care anymore. Just a feeling, of course, I may be wrong.
-
I don't get the criticisms. the angles the camera movements, all better than the mediocre damn near tv level crap from thor, iron man, and to some extent cap america. Looks and feels like a big epic film, which it should, and already outclass everything iron man 2 was trying to be, even Scarlett looks sexier... Finally evans actually evokes a sense of manliness more than he did or was trying to do desperately in Cap, not bad... not bad....
-
Half of you people will go see this movie and enjoy it. The other half of you people will go see it and bitch about how it doesn't live up to some arbitrary standard you've created in your diseased minds. Kinda like the responses to this trailer.
-
This will just be a bug, dumb movie without Wasp and Henry Pym.
-
Whatever movie she's in, she destroys it.

Looking forward to this, oh yes :)

When people actually see Snyder's Superman movie, that's when they won't care.
-
I want to see nothing less than total fucking destruction.
-
I am very happy in my pants right now...

Music choice could be better, but it's not horrible. Here's to hoping we get a more dramatic trailer next time, maybe one that highlights each hero for the idiots in America who don't understand most of these characters got their own movie and now they're teaming up. And the Hulk actually looks like Mark Ruffalo! Cool! And nice witty banter from Tony. Love the look on Thor's face as he watches Tony and Cap bicker. Oh, and remember everyone bitching about the spy footage of the explosions in Cleveland and how they looked small and cheap? I think Joss and company just sokked you in the face.
-
He has a unique style, but he uses it for everyone he's ever written, when it should have been given to one character. The "green rage monster" line could have been uttered by any given character on Buffy. Hmm, could that be the real reason "Hush" is such a good episode?
-
Agree with a lot of you - hope we get to see more Hulk than Banner in the style of the recent Avengers cartoons. I actually feel Ruffalo will probably be a pretty good Banner though. And of course, want to see feats of strength from the Hulk that have never been seen in a movie before!! I dunno - destroying an asteroid 2 times the size of earth with one punch! Saving the Avengers by lifting up a 150 billion ton mountain! Stopping a planet from ripping apart or stopping an earthquake with his hands. Or Doc Samson / The Leader and other scientists being unable to measure or find limits to his strength! Just some of his amazing feats from the comics =)
-
There's reviews around: http://www.news.com.au/entertainment/movies/film-review-the-thing/story-e6frfmw0-1226165268366 Sounds "okay".
-
I know someone involved in the mo-cap for Avengers, and I was told that the Hulk had an awful lot of scenes of kicking butt. However much of it winds up in the film is anyone's guess, but there was a lot of it done. To be fair, it sounded like Hulk whooping individual enemies, not smashing flying enemy battleships out of the air or some such... As to whether he does anything really Hulk-ish in terms of strength, I didn't hear anything about that - but then again, that doesn't seem to be something that requires a serious mo-cap effort.
-
And who gives a flying shit about the music? It wont be in the actual movie. How about this...let's all wait for the fucking movie to actually come out before we start criticizing the damn thing. I personally think it will be very good to awesome. It better be.
-
Avengers without a shrinking/growing team member of lesser importance just feels incomplete. Plus think how awesome shrinking effects would be these days.

The first hulk movie really nailed the Hulk's physicality

Especially when he was running and leaping through the desert and fighting tanks. Looking back I even appreciate the bright shade of green they picked for Hulk's skin. He's not plant-coloured, he's more like Slimer from Ghostbusters.

I have complained about this before but why must every action/sci-fi trailer over the past 10 years be produced the EXACT same way with no creativity what so ever? You know...the quick fade in and outs with bad music in the back ground?!

Now that I've seen the full trailer - much better feeling than the teaser
by openthepodbaydoorshal
And it made me realize, Whedon's strength is in groups. The Scooby gang in Buffy, the crew and passengers of Firefly, even Woody and Buzz and the collection of toys in Toy Story...Whedon excels when writing for a group of characters...so, this could be gooood.
-
...for two reasons. A) they don't want to show -everything- and the Hulk (and a possibly rebooted one at that) is a good ace up their sleeves. B) The CG is still being worked on and they wisely didn't throw in a bunch of half finished shots for fans to rip to shreds.

Because trailers in the 90s became competely outsourced and controlled by marketing people. There has been a feedback loop for years that has now culminated in all trailers being the same. It's a self-amplifying feedback loop. Marketing people are TERRIFIED of doing anything original. They do focus groups to find out what attracted people to prior movies. Over time, as more and more trailers looked like this, that's increasingly all that people saw, and thus all that they reported as having attracted them in focus groups. Most of the problems with our civilization and our species as a whole come from self-amplifying feedback loops in our depersonalizing systems.

His performance screamed through the fourth wall.<br> <br>I, for one, think they picked the right man to turn into an enormous green rage monster. Ruffolo will bring humility to the role that's been sorely lacking.

Can Whedon control himself? He loves to have the weakest character be the hero in the end. On the other hand, wouldn't it be cool if he killed off one of the Avengers 10 minutes into the movie? You know that's his MO as well.

by dahveed1972
Norton was a very credible, but dull as dirt Banner. Ther is PLENTY more they can do with the character, including giving him some kind of idiosyncracy (sp?). The character has issues even when hes not turning into a green behemoth. Norton being completely decent and normal is fine, but adds nothing to Banner beyond "Hey I'm a normal decent persona of this nondescript actor named Ed Norton!" Just move on is all im sayin.

No one was more disappointed than me about Norton's departure
by Blanket-Man
But it was announced OVER A YEAR AGO! Let it go!!! Of all the Avengers, even including Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch, the actor playing Banner is the most replaceable. The Hulk - who is the actual super-hero/Avenger, NOT Banner - is a completely separate CGI creation, and must always be so. He's not Norton or Bana in a costume. For that reason, I see no point in Ruffalo's role being much more than an extended cameo.
-
It's not make-believe, it's real. They put cameras strategically around New York and captured the real Avengers fighting the real Loki. Coming soon is the Hawkeye sex tape.
-
...not Scarlet Witch. Which made me realize that it would've been much cooler has *Scarlett* Johannson been cast as the *Scarlet* Witch, huh? For one, thing Wanda's costume is a lot sexier, IMO...
-
...and a very good point indeed.
-
It will be 3 hours long, probably Hawkeye's flashbacks, B-story, and action scenes taking up 2 hrs, 45 mins of it.
-
Good point, there should actually have been no Banner in this movie. Just Hulk. they could've said that at the end of Incredible Hulk, Banner decided to control the Hulk by "becoming" him forever.
-
I can't believe people are complaining about the juxtaposition of actor's lines as some evidence of bad writing. You do know that trailers cut together lines and images from different points in a scene or different scenes altogether, don't you? You don't know what the lines actually are in the movie, or their context. Just like you have no idea if Thor is actually laughing at the 'genius, billionaire, philanthropist' line or something else entirely. Remember in the Captain America trailer when one of the commandos asks Cap if he "knows how to use that thing" and he sneeringly scoffs? That never happened in the movie. He was scoffing at something Red Skull said. See, it's called editing. Anyone who judges dialogue and how shots are cut through a trailer are dumbasses. Trailers are for promotion - they go for the lines that can easily be taken out of context, the ones with punch. They hardly ever make sense. And no, there is absolutely no evidence, beyond talkback whiners, that the popularity of superhero films is waning. Frankly, my only criticism is I wish they had kept the 'some assembly required' tagline, cuz that was kinda funny. Oh, and Serenity didn't bomb. It underperformed, but it didn't bomb. It made money, but enough to warrant a sequel, in Universal's eyes. And most of the time, people wouldn't say it 'looked like a tv show' if they didn't know that Whedon worked in tv and Firefly was a tv show. Just the usual irrational Whedon-hate.
-
are completely inane, especially if you've ever picked up a comic. The whole point of them being on the team is for wetworks and espionage. They get in and out for surveillance, or for operations that need to be done quickly and quietly, under the radar. That's why they're SHIELD agents. You don't send in Captain America, Thor or Iron Man (let alone the Hulk), if you want quiet. It's really not that hard to figure out.
-
Back in '89 (God, I'm old) we saw DC bring to life its strongest character. From that moment on, we comic geeks dreamed of our other heroes getting the serious big movie treatment. Marvel has not only cranked out close to a dozen super-quality films but its combining 4 of its biggest into a film that will arguably be the most talked about summer flick of 2012!!! Whether its good or bad, its not going to be horrible (I'm banking on this movie being something special btw). Complain and nitpick all you want but for CRYING OUT LOUD!!! WE'VE COME A LONG WAY from Dolph's Punisher, direct to .99 rental Fantastic Four, Italian Red Skulls, and made-for-TV Hulk team-up shows. Can you just enjoy it for what its worth?!?!? People, its not going to get better than this!!! Accept it, revel in it, and HAVE SOME FUN WITH IT!!!

I WANT to like this movie, and I WANT it to be good, and I can't envision a scenario where I won't see it (in theater), but I do have doubts. Ruffalo is no Norton, and that's not his fault. I'm one of those who thought Norton's portrayal of Banner was "spot on", as the kids say, so spot on that I'm having trouble with someone else as Banner now. And Ruffalo just seems like a strange choice; looks nothing like the doc, and is way too inherently macho to pull off the role convincingly. I never really associate the Black Widow with the Avengers that much. Yeah, she's been a member but seldom during any memorable runs and honestly, it always seemed like "wth" is a superspy rubbing elbows with Thor for? Hawkeye, I'll give you...one powerless mortal with a gimmick...OK...but not two. I don't recall Stark being such a jokester in the comics. Probably a bit of Downey dripping in, but that trailer exchange seems like they're setting up Stark to be the "Sawyer" (with all the good lines) to Cap's "Jack" (the leader with the thankless role of being serious) and the butt of a lot of jokes. Hawkeye should be the jokester, and Stark and Cap should be equals with not a lot of tension. Thor can e hotheaded, Hawkeye's a rogue, and the Hulk is so unpredictable that it doesn't make much sense for him to be on a team at all really, so you really don't need more manufactured conflict with Cap/Tony. Too bad that Giant Man and the Wasp couldn't be here, but they were probably hard to market. I'll miss them, nonetheless. Whedon is good with dialogue, I loved Buffy, thought Firefly was OK with potential (kills me when people list it as one of the great sci fi shows ever with just 13 episodes made...was it THAT GOOD, THAT QUICK?), and he's a good storyteller but he's had some bombs too. Loved his XMen run, so I do have hope. We shall see.
-
(and I think it is safe to assume there will be a second movie, as this film will make a HUGE amount of money regardless how good or bad it is)....I am assuming they will add one or two team members. Who should it be? The only two founding members not in the Avengers movie are the Wasp and Ant Man. Though, to be fair, they're kind of lame superheroes, though they have an interesting relationship (Hank aka Ant Man was abusive to Janet aka The Wasp). I think they need another female on the team. So think Spider-Woman or Ms. Marvel would make the most sense. Spider-Woman is really popular right now. But mostly because of her costume. I don't know that that would translate well to the screen, and I think Sony might have a problem with a Spider-Woman, since they own the rights to Spider-Man. Of course, there is really no relation to the two characters other than their names, but still....could be a bit of a legal issue there. So my guess is they will go with Ms. Marvel, but she's basically Thor without the hammer. I suppose they could do Mockingbird since she hooks up with Hawkeye, but she doesn't have any powers and that would be just like Black Widow. If they just decide to add another guy they'll probably do Black Panther or Luke Cage. Maybe Iron fist. Namor would be cool too, though he might get his own movie. Enough geeking out.
-
Wasp for sure. Short hair cut and giant freaking hooters!

I really hate his "witty" lines. Captain America asking Stark who he is without the suit is just a shitty excuse to elicit some laughs. Reminds me of that shitty Alien Resurrection with the tongue in cheek "humor".

Whedon has never shot with anamorphic lenses. He has shot spherical and matted to an aspect ratio of 2.35:1 format (for Serenity). There is a difference. Marvel movies anamorphically TRUE are Blade (1) X-Men (1,2,3) Elektra Incredible Hulk Thor Spherical movies matted to 1.85 or 2.35:1 are The Punisher 1989 (1.85) The Punisher 2004 (2.35:1) The Punisher: War Zone (2.35:1) Spiderman (1.85) Spiderman 2,3 (2.35:1) Hulk (1.85) Daredevil (2.35:1) Ghost Rider (2.35:1) Fantastic Four (2.35:1) Iron Man (2.35:1) Captain America (2.35:1) The Avengers (1.78) 1.78 (HDTV) and 1.85 (35mm) are fairly similar.

Lotsa 'splosions. A few good lines. Not much else. Don't get me wrong, I'll get in line. And I expect it to be a great film. But it was a shitty trailer.

(in spite of the fact that I think it'll be a great film) it had nothing to do with the choice of music. Matter of fact, I want that version of the track now. I think SOME of NIN is right on the edge of being very dated, but much of it I think is pretty timeless (especially Downward Spiral).
-
Taller is better. Jurassic Park still feels bigger than King Kong because the screen is taller. You can't fucking see action off to the sides when sitting close enough to make the screen really tall. CinemaScope was a ploy to get people out away from their tvs. Now you can fuck off. 1:85 is a perfect ratio in my humble opinion. Good enough for the beard- good enough for me

But if I have to see another assumed female "badass" landing on the ground in slow motion in an horribly exaggerated three-point-stance while whipping her hair back in slow motion, I'll probably... well, I probably won't do anything but just roll my eyes and sigh, but seriously. The cheese factor of what studios think is "cool" has really gotten out of control over the past decade.
-
15 fucking feet? Can I ask what type of projector you recommend? Is it a special screen? How much does a 15' screen cost? I gotta get a set-up like that one of these days... By the way... I loved the 2.35 vs. 1.85 discussion because I've been planning on shooting a high budgeted sci-fi short (calling card type of thing) and was agonizing over trying to shoot anamorphic 2.35. I do like 2.35, especially for sci-fi, but I also feel that it's kind of overdone once again... and not really in a good way, it's not like we suddenly got a rash of great films shot in 2.35, it's like EVERY FUCKING THING is 2.35 now, including every stupid indie film shot on the Red with lots of lens flares (also overdone, better to avoid doing it)... anyway, I started to think my film might stand out by being shot in 1.85, which is easier with the camera that I have. Even just shooting some footage of one of our practical alien puppets (we're mixing practical and digital), the intimacy that you get in 1.85 is better for this film (it's about alien abduction... attempting to elevate that type of material). With 2.35, there's this intellectual distancing effect, especially with today's lenses and cameras... everything is so stylized when shot anamorphic or 2.35 these days, I almost wonder if they still know how to create intimacy with the actors and the environment in that format. Either way, I really think that even if you manage to do it right and get the feeling of Alien or CE3TK because of the acting, realistic lighting, etc., you're already behind the curve because it's been done to death in recent years.

What makes you think that Asgardians are stupid? Why wouldn't they know what a billionaire is? Sure, they might not care, but the concept isn't likely to be beyond them. And it wouldn't matter what "Odin" knows, considering that Thor was actually present. Yeah, it was kind of douchy to point that prior point out, though if you're going to me critical, you can at least get the characters right.

Blind Allegiance sucks. Specially if your team is not looking good.
by Zurge
I like all kinds of Comics and Manga, same goes for Films and TV Series, but the constant is my acceptance to the obvious. Coming here is discouraging because people neglect facts, resolve to name calling, and defend their favorites like fans of Palin; with anger and frustration. Not quite Tea Baggers, but it's getting close. I can see why Marvel Fans are cocky, this year had 3/4 Marvel Super Hero movies, and the fanboys went nuts. However, the mainstream media saw it, as a lackluster summer, with said Marvel "MEGA HITS" not doing Spider-man or Batman numbers. Even Green Lantern did 30 million less than X-Men First Class, based off this site one could have judged the movie to be this Year's Electra, but then again audiences have a sense of common sense and are not bound by fanaticism. Fanboys will claim these Marvel hits were great and box office means nothing. Below, is a list that's mostly neglected in this site, but I don't blame the staff for lack of objectivity. This chart combines Box Office and Reviews by Users and Editorial Staffs: http://www.darkhorizons.com/features/1581/what-re-the-most-acclaimed-comic-book-films (Top Five: 2 DC Comics & 3 Independent Comics based Films. Top Ten: 2 Marvel Comic-based Films) This is not surprising to me, if one looks at both companies it's clear which one wanted the 4 billion dollar sell-out of all its characters and which one made 1-billion dollar film based one single character. Greed? You judge. All I know is that one company makes me feel like I'm dating a nerdy girl who is boring, geeky, and once in a while really hot and loves me amazingly, while the other feels like the town's MTV-girl who dates everyone and pleases everyone. Lately, the nerdy one got a make over and I hear she's very intellectual and damn hot. When it comes to making films based on these two companies, I feel competition is healthy but not to the point of polarizing the fans into Tea Baggers vs Occupy movements. If you study the history of both, you realize both have their moments and horrible films. The problem is saying things like "IN WHEDON WE TRUST" or "FUCK NOLAN". Because facts show Whedon is Atheist and blind-faith offends him, and Nolan has the best Reviewed/Profitable Oscar worthy film. My girl is taking me to see this, and I won't pay for it. Therefore I will be more inclined to give it a better review. Otherwise, I feel bad for the True Believers, because it's good to question.

Guys it is a pretty good trailer. First joss only wrote AR. He also wrote toy story. Serenity is now in the profit range of around 20 million with DVD sales. Firefly has sold more season sets than any tv show. Buffy/angel was classic tv. Dollhouse was so damn deep that no one got it. Joss is an amazing creator and his wonder woman script was very jms ww. So keep it up haters... Remember it is only a movie and it seems you guys are picking on bullshit like nin songs... Frack it... I will see this first weekend.

Reminder: Avengers Fans have been around longer than JW's Fans.
by Zurge
So the clashes here are inevitable. I just don't like it when it's childish, racist, sexist or plain dumb. Just leave the rest of comics creators out of this, and discuss facts. Joss Whedon's failures are his failures alone. If a grown man can't stop blaming everyone else for his accountability then he should make better quality work instead. The fact his fans apologize and feel the need to lecture us on why he is not to blame is beyond pathetic like watching Bankers not take blame for the 2008 economic crisis and blaming us for not having money to invest. His successes should be praised and hailed, but not at the expense of the numerous wonderful team of people that work with him and for him. I for one want to see a good Avengers movie, because as independent creator it means more people are interested in comics. But when fans praise his writing, and one looks into the lines of dialogue in the Preview... "You were made to be ruled, in the end it will be every man for himself" Wait, I thought we were made to be ruled (Totalitarianism, Monarchy, Dictatorship) in the end it will be every man for himself (Anarchy, Chaos, Scavengers)...Uh...contradictory. "What do we do now?", 'We get ready'. Wait, didn't they get ready years ago with all those Marvel Movie tie ins? Oh yes, and that Avenge line...yuck. "Yeah like if we can't save The World Trade Center, so like, we'll damn sure Avenge it and stuff". We've seen stupid logic like that, and it's just horrible.
-
Speaking of the inevitable AVENGERS sequel: What if they introduce Ultron, but make him a creation of Tony Stark, still leaving Ant-Man/Hank Pym off the team? Cuz otherwise I'm afraid we'll have to wait til AVENGERS 3 for Ultron. If AVENGERS 2 introduces the Pyms, it wouldn't pack the dramatic wallop if he creates Ultron that soon...
-
I think you're misinterpreting that particular line from the trailer. When Loki says: "You were made to be ruled...in the end it will be every man for himself," it isn't contradictory because what he's saying is that Man (generally speaking) is too weak to defend itself against the forces at his command–which by definition means that the efforts of anyone aligned against him will result in failure, which leads to, both literally and figuratively, a breakdown of society, armies and of the groupings that bind us, like family. So we are indeed alone. Along against the power at his command, and helpless to do anything against it. It's actually a quite clever line.

He might as well...

Or even better how about an amalgamated Ultron-Ultimo? Make it like the Robot episode from Dr Who. Ultron replaces his metallic body with a new indestructible adamantium alloy,Tony tries to destroy it by using a device based on vibranium but instead that turns Ultron into a gigantic, more powerful robot, the Ultimo. The Avengers cant beat Ultimo because he is too powerful and invincible for them, but then you have an unexpected appearance by Giant Man who tries to stop Ultimo.A marvelous clash between a Robot Giant and a Man Giant ala Godzilla style evokes which ends with Giant-Man defeating Ultimo with the help of the Avengers. Then Giant-Man transforms into Hank Pym who then explains to the Avengers that he was the creator of Ultron. He was inspired by Tony's armor and its great potential, but he thought that such a powerful technological weapon should be operated by an emotionless machine than a human who can make mistakes and use it for evil purpose. So he created an Iron Man type armor which was controlled by an AI of his own making. (maybe Hank Pym had co-worked with Tony to create the Jarvis Ai in the movies?) Pym named this new sentient armor Ultron, but later it become too intelligent and turned against its creator and the world.Pym seeing the terrible mistake that he he had made, decides to stop Ultron no matter the cost. While the Avengers where hunting down Ultron, who had revealed his plans to the world to destroy/conquer it,Pym is working hard in his second project: the Giant-Man serum which, like the Hulk serum, is based on Cap's super-soldier serum (maybe Pym is working for the army, for General Ross) Finally he manages to perfect the serum just in the nick of time when Ultron transforms into Ultimo, and he uses it into himself while knowing that it might die from the process of the transformation. But the serum is success,he becomes Giant-Man and he defeats Ultron/Ultimo. The Avengers after hearing his story, they decide that, despite his mistake of creating Ultron,he is a brave hero who was willing to even sacrifice himself in order to redeem for his mistake, and since he defeated Ultron,he proved his worthy. So the Avengers welcome him as the new member of their team. After Credits: we see Pym beating his bitch wife WASP while being drunk because of his qualms for creating Ultron and costing the lives of hundreds of people.THE END.

a) That Loki line sounds like pieced together dialogue. It's there to sound cool. I do agree that it doesn't make sense when arranged that way, I just don't think it's one scene. Ditto with 'we get ready'. There are a billion contexts for that phrase. This is what trailers do. They aren't meant to be picked apart. This is 'oh, OK, bad guy going to cause chaos, Samuel L Jackson is in charge of getting ready to fight him'. b) Do I really need to touch 'Yeah like if we can't save The World Trade Center, so like, we'll damn sure Avenge it and stuff'? Hardly a 9/11 allegory.
-
A) Joss Whedon himself actually trashed Tim Burton's Batman Returns based on a line from Catwoman to Penguin 'We need to destroy what matters to him the most' which he replied "You mean frame him?" from the trailer. I say, likewise, except for such a highly regarded writer; know how to edit your dialogue. Even in the trailer. The get ready thing, yes, it's overkill, and we've invested so much money already. B) Actually yeah, because the team is based off NYC. And 911 showed us what true heroes are. Not some pathetic useless group who can't save it but just avenge it.

I don't think it's a clever line, clever lines need no explanation. Other lines like "I aim to miss behave" are indeed witty and clever and need no explanation. I think if we place your explanation in the Preview it would make more sense, but then he'd be "Monologuing". I mean, it's like telling your kids - Hey we're going to Disneyland and I made the schedule which you have to follow, in the end every man for himself, now go. You'd probably think mom has gone Palin.
-
That's absurd, that could be used for all geek-related shitty looking trailers. Remember the awesome lines of "Venom gotta Eat" and "Bay Raped my childhood"? I won't turn my geek card in, maybe my Disney pass.

Where there's now always more people saying, "JESUS STOP COMPLAINING" than there are actual complainers. Like, 98% approval, and everyone just spends their time whining about the 2% who said it simply looks "good" rather than life-changing. Get over it. All this talk about "people bitch and bitch" is just a waste of time. Why is it EVERY talkback now is just overwhelmed with this boring, repetitive bullshit of fake self-righteousness?
-
If a movie opens with 150 mil, it's gonna make more than 500 worldwide. Try a billion in today's market.
-
I wasn't saying it as a bad thing. Jesus, again you nerds, everything is about "either it's a compliment or a diss," it can never just be an observation. Anyways, chalk me up as one who actually does like the 2:35 ratio. Sure, 16:9 and 1:85 are more intimate, and work well with certain films (even certain action spectacles, Del Toro is great in the format). But there's still something about the way 2:35 frames everything, it's very beautiful. Did you know that Breaking Bad's creators actually wanted to shoot the Gus/Walt meet-up at the end of Crawl Space in 2:35 35mm to match Leone's films, but the network wouldn't let them because "people's TVs are 16:9 so there would be bars." Sometimes it's about drawing the eye toward something. I dunno, I think it woulda been cool, though it's still such an amazing scene with that passing cloud. And again - observations. Not criticisms. Jesus. Technically if Nolan filmed 1:85 it would match better with the IMAX stock, but he still goes with scope.

Scarjo getting cast as BW is a rare instance where they actually cast better then the character deserves.
by The Founder
I'm sorry to the BW fans but I just never thought I'd see her make it into a live action Avengers movie before Iconic Avengers female team members like Scarlett Witch, The Wasp, and both Captain or Ms Marvel. BW ranked not at all on my list as someone I wanted to see on the big screen. Now I'm not bothered she's on the team and in the movie by a long shot but I'm really lost for words at the level of hate against Scarjo being cast. Scarjo is certainly an actress bigger then role honestly deserves in my opinion. I frankly would've expected an up and coming actress that is less known and cheaper get cast as BW then a more known A LIST and credible actress get the part of a 3 string character. We should be grateful. Now I can respect if someone doesn't like the fit or look of Scarjo for the BW but the personal attacks and disdain for her are a bit confusing.

"B) Actually yeah, because the team is based off NYC. And 911 showed us what true heroes are. Not some pathetic useless group who can't save it but just avenge it. " i) Let's get the facts straight: 9/11 was instigated by rogue units in the US government. Proof: www.911research.com So it is not a conspiracy theory. ii) There was nothing to avenge on 9/11. If you think some angry muslims perpetrated it, then you're as blind and stupid as George Bush's clone unit. (Don't ask). The only thing left, is to take back your country, that's long been controlled and dominated by those who could care less about your dumb ignorant ass shouting "Avenge! Avenge! Avenge 9/11!" What the fuck have you avenged, retard? 1 million plus innocent civilians dead and counting. 10 or 15 thousand dead idiot yanks, who blindly follow their puppet leaders. Explain to me what's been avenged, asshole? Just shut your fucking trap, and keep the sweeping, grand speaches inside your stinking, loose anus, where they belong. This is the year 2011, not 2001. If you still believe in the 9/11 myth, and you're coming into a forum urging people to go to war and avenge something and become "heroes", then I have little sympathy for the likes of you, when the government decides to blow some more shit up and scare you some more. I highly doubt it and I say this as a Marvel over DC fan. I sure Avengers will do well and ill even go so far as to say it'll get 700 million WW but 1.5 billion is maybe dreaming to much. I just look at the history of comic films and their box office take. These movies unfortunately have a ceiling. Dark Knight was a rare instance. I'm not sure of Spiderman crossed a billion put it did pretty damn good. Time will tell and either prove me right or wrong.

I honestly dont think they invested enuf money for this movie to make a billion dollars. You'd need scene after scene of next level, "blows Avatar out of the water" shit from beginning to end. And a somehow non-gratuitous ScarJo fully nude shower scene.
by dahveed1972
I think the movie is gonna be good, but it's not gonna be a game changer. That would take another 100 mil, a 2013 release date, and some yet-to-be-invented technology. If every character were as popular and well known as IRON MAN, then maybe. If it makes 500 million, I think everyone involved will be satisfied.

Oh and true or not, the idea that our govt staged the 9/11 attacks is, by definition, a conspiracy theory. Since, you know, it wouldve taken a conspiracy to pull off.
by dahveed1972
I dont believe it, but im sympathetic to some people who have doubts about the official story. That said, the manner in which the towers collapsed is NOT suspicious or impossible in any way shape or form. My uncle and cousin (his son) are both commercial architects with several skyscrapers (or parts of them) on their resumes. Theyve explained to me in no uncertain terms that the results of those impacts were completely predictable. So scratch that bit of pseudoscience - ie they collapsed due to a controlled detonation - off your "proof" list.
-
The problem with all your 9/11 "theories" is a) You're SO sure they're right. But you don't know. And you're extremely condescending to others, which proves that it's more about feeling "special" and "in the know" than about any real truth. b) Where's the motive? If the US government were really behind 9/11, why not pin it on Saddam so we can skip that whole annoying Afghanistan step (which Bush/Rove/Cheney never had any real interest in) and just go right to Iraq? Bush admin's greatest sin, the Iraq war, also proves psychologically that it's highly unlikely they were behind 9/11. Also, bin Laden had motive, and al Qaeda had attacked us numerous times before (was Cole in 2000 inside job? Was 93 trade center inside job?) And were the people at the airports "in on it" too? That's a pretty big conspiracy. But I'm sure we never landed on the moon, as well. SHEEPLE, MAN, THEY BELIEVE DAT SHIT!
-
Because no one is THIS stupid, but you literally said: "Proof: www.911research.com So it is not a conspiracy theory." Anything of any real importance can't just be proven by some throwaway link. Like: You're such a fucking moron, WE ALREADY HAVE A CURE FOR CANCER, BUT THE GOVERNMENT IS STOPPING IT FROM GETTING OUT THERE BECAUSE THE MEDICAL INDUSTRY CONTROLS THEM!!!! IDIOT! PROOF: www.canceriscuredactually.com Case closed.

The all time funniest trailer manipulation of dialogue was for Brokedown Palace
by Rebel Scumb
That flick where Claire danes and pre-fame Kate Beckinsale go to Thailand and get arrested for drugs In the trailer the narration has danes saying 'we were going to spend the summer in Bangkok, how perfect a place named for the very thing we wanted to do' as in they wanted to bang-cock in the actual movie the same dialogue actually says something like 'we were going to spend the summer in bangkok. In Thai Bangkok means adventure and self discovery. How appropriate, a place named for the very thing we wanted to do' Or something to that effect
