* Once again, basic cable’s “Jersey Shore” beat the networks’ 10 p.m. programming.
* CBS confirmed Friday it is shutting down production of “How To Be A Gentleman” after nine episodes and exiling the series to Saturdays. Its timeslot after "Big Bang" is going to "Rules of Engagement." There was concern "Gentlemen" was dragging down Bad Robot’s “Person of Interest”? “Criminal Minds,” at least, improved on its “Person” lead-in to overtake “Private Practice” for the first time this season.
CBS Adults 18-49
6.2 (7.4) (10.7)(1.2) 2½ Men
4.5 (4.9) (5.0) (2.5) Big Bang Theory

1.7 (1.8) (0.8) (0.7) CSI NY
1.2 (1.4) (---) (---) A Gifted Man
* The Thursday edition of “X Factor” hit its first uptick. It’s not doing “Idol” business but it’s clearly a huge boon for Fox.
Fox Adults 18-49
4.3 (4.5) (4.8) (---) New Girl
4.1 (4.1) (4.4) (---) The X Factor (We)

1.2 (1.5) (0.6) (0.6) Fringe
--- (1.0) (1.1) (1.0) Cops
* “Charlie’s Angels,” already ABC’s lowest rated scripted show, is now the network’s lowest-rated show of any stripe. It tied “Vampire Diaries” for last place at 8 p.m.
* “Grey’s Anatomy” is sliding hard against “X Factor,” and dragging “Private Practice” down with it. “Grey’s” was in fourth place at 9 p.m. behind “X,” the TBS baseball game and NBC’s Carell-free “Office.”
ABC Adults 18-49

1.2 (1.0) (1.2) (1.0) 20/20
1.2 (1.5) (2.1) (---) Charlie’s Angels
* Laughtrack-happy “Whitney” is now tied with “Up All Night,” which, significantly, does not benefit from “The Office” as its lead-in. “Community” continues to get the shit beat out of it by “Big Bang Theory,” but at least “Prime Suspect” didn’t lose any ground this week.
NBC Adults 18-49
7.7 (8.3)(10.0)(10.7) Sunday Night Football
3.2 (3.5) (3.9) (1.4) The Office

Who is not watching this show? First three eps this season have been super funny.
-
I cannot understand why people don't like these shows more. They are so solid every week. Community is constantly being inventive no other show has it's sense of humor while Parks and Rec has far more likable characters than most shows and beats The Office every week IMO. Most of the other shows are just rehashes and safe and boring with jokes you can see coming from a mile away. They all scream sitcom so badly to me that I find them very annoying to watch. Especially laugh-tracked shows. 30 Rock (whenever that returns), Parks and Rec and Community are my trifecta of "doing it right."
-
First off you can like triple the ratings for sports since most people watch that stuff at bars. Also not that many people watch that piece of shit called Big Bang Theory... No fucking way. Who does CBS pay to get these "ratings". Time for a system change. Most people I know watch Community and the NBC line up.
-
Now maybe NBC can nove Parks there and save it
-
i never miss community and parks & rec. community has been a little "meh" this season, but p&r is still top notch. ridiculous. move them to a night with less competition if need be.
-
NBC - like always - has bigger problems. Both shows have core groups that will follow either show to any other night. The more cancellations that NBC has this year for new projects, the better it looks for both recurring series returning next year. Long live Pawnee & Greendale.

Collapses" = "ties another one of NBC's highest-rated shows
by NinjaRap
Yeah, Whitney's a loooooong way from failure despite being a steaming piece of shit. I thought that this terrible show was a foregone conclusion to bomb, but people really seem to be watching it, further cementing my lack of faith in humanity.
-
A large part of Whitney's audience comes from people sticking around after The Office (NBC's top rated scripted show). Both Community and Parks & Rec were earning much higher ratings in the post-Office time slot.
-
Thursdays was so terrible. The Chang storylines are so pointless and awful and unfunny they ruin what the main plot can accomplish, which itself was rather weak last episode too. The best scene in the whole episode was M.K.W. telling Magnitude they were laughing at him not with him, that was it. They need to get back to doing storys around just the core group, and they need to get Alison Brie in hotter outfits!
-
It's weird. It's like the six episodes at the end of last season eased me off him. I think Ed Helms is great as Boss-Andy. I'm really enjoying everyone getting more time in the ensemble. And I recently saw an old re-run on TNT or something and saw Steve Carrell in the credits and actually said 'Ah geez -- this guy.' Yep. Kinda think Office may be better off without him, and he should've left a season or two sooner.
-
I enjoy the seasonal death watch of TV series.
-
I don't miss Michael either. The show, I think, has always been much more of an ensemble thing than anyone realizes given Michael's dominant role. If anything, I think Jim or Dwight would be a much bigger loss. What also makes me miss him a bit less is that the show in general has declined a lot in the last couple of seasons. This season it feels a lot fresher.
-
...but if you have a long term attachment to those characters (and I do), this season has actually been really good so far. A definite improvement over last season, which I would often leave on the DVR for three or four weeks before watching. The last two weeks I've actually watched the show "live". Ted Danson has made a difference, but its not just that. The writing (and possibly directing) is better this season, too. It just feels like all parties involved really care again.
-
Have the get anally raped by the cast of Modern Family. Great crossover will bring in big ratings.
-
you are wrong about big bang not sure why so many here hate it...it is great light comedy and mayim is very funny i probably wouldve stopped watching had she not joined the cast
-
I had hoped that the small uptick last week would turn into steady ratings for Community - not this collapse. I really want to see a fourth season to complete Jeff's four-year course. But this seems so unlikely I now just want it to avoid Arrested Development's third season fate of having episodes cut back. This episode was pretty poor. The idea of the group's dynamic being destructive was an interesting one, but probably a bit dark to introduce so early on in the season. And Chang's storyline just felt pointless. I'm kinda sad to see the head security guy from Running Wilde go as I quite liked him. But I have faith that the Halloween episode will be as awesome as ever. They also need more from John Goodman pretty soon. NBC's ratings as a whole are awful. Their 2nd-highest-rating scripted series wouldn't even get into the top half of the other networks' lists. I'm not sure if this helps Community because other NBC shows are doing even worse, or if it's bad for them because it becomes tempting just to wipe the entire slate clean apart from a couple of top shows.
-
There's gotta be a huge difference in the cost of production for those two shows.
-
I can see why their ratings aren't good and this might be the last season. Even as a fan of Community, I become less and less amused by Chang as each season rolls by. He takes away screen time from much funnier characters.
-
Been kinda downhill since. Now he's just retarded.
-
I had no idea how low the ratings are for that show. Wow. Good for AMC ignoring that bullshit and keeping it on.
-
I agree with you both, but for different reasons. I think that your right about Dwight and Jim being important and how it is an ensable. At the same time I think that Michael was important, and part of the reason that Andy is so great is that he seems to do kind of the same thing as Michael in his own way. Both characters really loved their staff and tried to go out of their way to help them, but they are both kind of freaks and very insecure and always try to overcompisate for their failings. They are also very clueless. This gives all of the other characters, but in particular Jim and Dwight the chance to play off of them since Jim is the only one there who actually knows what hes doing and Dwight is such a powerhungry freak.

It's funny that CBS cancelled a series with ratings that would make it NBC's #2 scripted series on the entire network.
by CCon99
P&R and Community continue to dip into abysmal ratings land each week. Even Parenthood which is a good show, is on the verge of dipping into the 1's. NBC is just in really bad shape, they would kill for half of their shows to have Gentleman's lame 2.5 rating. They really should just scrap the entire lineup except The Office and try to reboot their network image next season. Office is their only scripted series that is doing anything and it's really sad that people seem to only tune into that show and then avoid the rest of the network like the plague the rest of the night. By midseason half of their shows will likely be getting beaten by the CW's best.
-
Unless you know roughly 100 million people, how is gauging a show's popularity based on what you and your friends watch a more reliable sampling than what Nielsen does?
-
Trust me...folks in the 70's werent tuning in to see Farrah Fawcetts hair. It is a scientifically proven fact that Jennifer Anistons nipples kept FRIENDS on the air at least 3 season longer than it would have been had she worn a bra.
-
Big Bang Theory is a piece of shit. In fact, it is a steaming pile of shit.
-
In the age of DVR, Hulu, and Torrenting the crap out of shows (I have 8 shows on Thursdays), the concept of lead-ins seem to only really work for old people who can't change the channels and CSI/NCIS zombies, both groups not exactly craved by advertisers.
-
And has been at least since the Leno in Primetime debacle. Overheard in the boardroom at every fall schedule meeting: "Let's put all of our good shows in crappy time slots then put our worst shows in the good time slots." Then the programming executives proceed to fling feces at each other.
-
Emily VanCamp is yummy
-
Those who hate it so much seem to be missing the point. It's a hilarious show about geeking out on absolutely everything that doesn't make its characters a bunch of cynical asshole nerds who hate everything, like so many geeks and/or AICN talkbackers. And Mayim Biyalik is perfectly cast. But, I also love IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY, LOUIE, PARKS & REC, COMMUNITY and 30 ROCK. You don't have to hate everything to really enjoy just ONE thing.
-
I watch some eps twice in a row. That's how much it makes me laugh. I'm okay with it the idea that some of you "too cool dudes" may think that I have no taste. I actually feel sorry for you that you don't find the show funny. You're really missing out.
-
really dont get the hate especially since the show glorifies geek culture
-
The only thing you're missing out on by not watching is the ongoing mystery of why it does better than damn near everything else on tv.
-
No one needs to apologize for liking this show. It's funny. I just couldn't take Community. Good cast, but the show fell flat for me. And Parks & Rec...love Rashida Jones! Can't take Amy Poehler.

Ringer is done, just a matter of time. More depressingly, Fringe is too.
by Stegman84
I welcome the inevitable cancellation of the steaming shitpile that is Charlie's Angels though. And How to be a Gentlemen is so bad it could have been a fictional Johnny Drama show, and fully deserves the quick death it has coming. Whitney is awful too, but it'll be around for a while yet. Don't see it getting a second season though, thank God. I also expect the continual ratings decline of Two and a Half Men as well, with each episode doing significantly less well than the last. I don't expect another season...
-
to watch the big bang theory is jim parsons. and the cute bloke, katey culuco. all the cast sparkle when parsons is on screen. I saw it last night and I swear john Galecki formely of roseanne supressed a laugh when on screen with parsons.
-
This twat has ruined British TV - it's because of him that good scripted shows don't stand a chance because all the execs can see is shitty talent and reality shows. Fuck him off. Don't watch X-Factor or if you do - be prepared for the next 10 years of Christmas Number 1's being from this shit show. You have been warned.
-
Why is no-one watching either Nikita or Vampire Diaries?? Both are great shows!! Vampire Diaries especially is good and is nothing like the trite Twilight. I just don't understand why Jersey Shore can win in the ratings whilst good shows fall behind...it's just weird.
-
TVD still does pretty good for CW, it's by far their highest rated show and in some cases even beats some of NBC's lower rated shows. It's definitely not in any trouble unless the CW ends up shutting down for some reason. Nikita on the other hand, was really lucky to get a 2nd season and doesn't appear to be doing any better this season. Which is a shame, because so far this season it's 10x better then last season already. They just took way to long getting the story anywhere in season 1 and a lot of the episodes just repeated a similar formula that got old and cost them viewers. Only bright spot for Nikita is its ratings are only a tick or 2 below most of their other shows and Nikita is getting those numbers on Friday nights. So I guess it will come down to how expensive the show is and how happy they are with those ratings on a Friday.
-
...is because they are nerds who aren't as intelligent as the characters on the show. However, they have the same difficult time with having a life. It is a shame that Community has to go up against those shows. I wish that NBC would move Community to Monday nights...or any other time that it wasn't up against major shows.
-
The first epi. was ok but that's it. She reminded me of a girl I used to date last week. Not in a good way either.
-
You sir are an idiot then...The Office is fucking TERRIBLE with out Carrell. Completely jumped the shark. Oh and you morons that like Community? Please for the love of God go eat a dick, the show is a travesty of unfunny. Not that The Geek show is better but they are on equal par of television shown in Hell.
-
That chick is NOT funny. She's ugly and a laugh track for every stinking line is not good comedy. Community is weak this season. Hope it improves. The Big Bang Theory is NOT funny either. Again, laugh tracks for every stinking line is not funny and the characters are weak douches. I'm a geek, I'm a Star Wars, Trek, whatever geek, but these freaks are not accurate. Maybe accurate, just not funny. It's writen by hacks who know a geek and then glom info from them. Instead of it being writen by actual geeks, which I don't know if it would help. It's terrible no matter how u slice it . The main skinny dude is obnoxious.
-
Michael is not missed. I was hoping he would leave as he was bringing tthe show down and entering Sociopath territory. I see the Office being like "Cheers,"- Diane and post Diane years. I prefer the Diane years.

I watch Whitney just to see her in slutty outfits
by BIG_BAD_WOLF_IN_CAPS

-
Seems like a shit load of TV watchers disagree. Besides, The Office is stale like an old loaf of bread. Make Pam sexy (prego or not) and make the receptionist a bit whooorish (best Danny Devito voice) and I'd watch The Office.
-
It really is sad that so few people are able to appreciate Community. It is honestly the smartest, funniest, most charming show currently on the air. That and Parks and Rec make Thursday night television worth watching. I actually don't mind The Big Bang Theory, but it is not even in the same LEAGUE as Community. How anyone could be faced with making a choice between watching Community and watching TBBT and end up choosing TBBT demonstrates and incredible lack of both taste and sanity. Again, I actually watch TBBT (on Hulu) and enjoy it for what it is, but what it is a nothing when compared against Community.
-
Big Bang fans, ladies and gentlemen! Kind of funny how people like restyles defends the show as "great," then mentions he was getting ready to stop watching it.
-
Big Bang not funny? by big_bad_wolf_in_caps Seems like a shit load of TV watchers disagree. MEANS DICK. These are same, boring, toothless, drooling, uninspired, unfunny cocks that keep watching Jay Leno.
-
I also like Californication, Episodes, and I'm trying to muscle my way through Shameless. Also, I just reopened the arrested development box set and started tacking an episode or two on at the end of every night. TBBT is funny, and light hearted, and sweet. No one on the show has a bad bone in their body, and I like that. Yes Chuck Lorre is in charge of that and 2.5 piles of crap, now with enhanced Kutcherhorribleness. I hate 2.5 jabronies more than I can possibly say, but like TBBT. Oh well. Parks this week was great, last week was eh, first one was good. Community has been DOA every episode this season, and I'm an unabashed apologist for the show. I really just wanted to beat the hell out of all of them after what they did to Todd. Not funny. Mean. Not even funny mean. 30 rock has been sliding too. I found myself laughing less and less and less. The Tracy Jordan Africa thing was about as funny as African starvation. I can't wait for episodes to come back though. I never, ever thought I would like Matt Leblanc. I feel dirty even typing it...

The best drama on TV. Period. Epic in scope, well written, brilliantly acted and directed. A true TV classic. Oh that's right. Because its about some stupid bottle blonde who doesn't want to get fat. Thats about it. Or is that Hollys world? A show about a stupid bottle blond who doesnt want to get fat. Oh wait, its Kardashians, A show about stupid fat girls who dont want to get fat..
