Which Simpson do you want dead'
Well, as many of you know, the word is we've got a Simpson heading straight to the land of doom soon, and the short list is reputedly Moe, Principal Skinner, and Maude Flanders. Word is that the actress who plays Maude is leaving the show, so it will be the end of Maude this Feb. 13. The more I think about it, I really wouldn't miss her, but I would miss the other two...so to hell with Maude, I say.
What do you say?

Yes. I agree. Kill Maude coz she doesnt add anything to the show. But not Skinner...he has so much conflict with Bart, and his mom, and Jimbo, Karney, and Dolf. And Moe is the BARTENDER!!! If you lose Moe's Tavern, you lose the show. JUST KEEP MOE AND SEYMOUR SKINNER, aka ARMIN TANZERIAN.
Thank you for your time. Im not Bill Gates. Really Im not. -

Doesn't make sense to kill off one of Hank Azaria's characters
by niiiice
Unless he's just been too overworked or something. So it most likely seems that they'll kill off whichever actress is leaving the show.
-
While Maude Flanders has provided a lot of humor as Homer's not-so-secret crush ("Not those peanuts, the ones at the bottom"; "Maude, eh?") she would probably be the least missed of the three.
What I'm more concerned about is the rumor that Shawn Colvin is guest starring as a church choir singer who helps Ned cope. That sounds kind of lame. I'm also wondering how they will pull this off in a way that is tasteful(unlike the Frank Grimes episode, which is tasteless but funny.)
-
Remember that this is a sweeps stunt, so they could do anything. If the actress who plays Maude leaves (and that's evidently a certainty) they could easily replace her. They've done it before. Still, odds are it is Maude. The episode is tentaively titled something like "Alone Again, Natura-didilly".
-
Ned Flanders! I want this guy dead! I want his family dead! I want his house burned to the ground! I want to go there in the middle of the night and piss on his ashes!
Actually, I'm pretty sure they'll kill off Maude Flanders instead. Taking the easy way out if you ask me. They should've gone gunnin' for one of the Flanders kids. Oh well. "Ay! Naranjas en la cabeza!" -
I love the Simpsons as much as anybody, since day one. I have to admit that I couldn't even tell you the last time I even laughed at an episode. It simply is not funny any more. The writing isn't as crisp and fresh as it used to...God damn....I cant say any more....If you guys are fans since the beginning, you know what I mean...It is sad...Please, I beg the people in charge to shake up the line up or to cancel the show...It's almost sad in a way to watch.....
-
Top five is too hard, bottom five are: 1). Bart Goes to France; 2). Michael Jackson episode; 3.) Bleeding Gums Murphy dies; 4.) Bart jumps the gorge. ; 5).Homer in the Naval Reserves.
-
Leslie Nielsen is dead? Hmmm. When was that? Does that mean we won't be subjected to any more plankton like "Wrongfully Accused", where you chuckle every 10 minutes and wonder why you don't just change the channel already? I can take a million more showers and never be able to wash away the shame I feel for paying to see Spy Hard! At least it was a matinee, so I don't have to do the ol' Hari Kari. At any rate, I'd have to say that Moe is without a doubt the funniest character on the show in terms of appearance/hilarity ratio. He usually has one of the best lines of the episode. The one where Homer thinks he can have a free beer and Moe laughs but then pulls out a shotgun and says "No seriously, give me the money" comes to mind. And wasn't there already an episode a la Rear Window where Homer thinks Flanders has killed his wife? Why would they go through the same thing again? I'm still mad they decided to kill off all the Phil Hartman characters--oh shit, never mind. Remember, comedy is tragedy + time.
-
I've been a fan since day one, and to tell the truth, the first seasons were kind of weak in retrospect. However, the new ones get better all the time.
-
I wish it were Bea Arthur that was getting the axe. Why must TVLand subject us to that horrifying, syndicated monstrocity? If a Maude must die, let it be Bea! Killing Mrs. Flanders really doesn't affect the show in the least. If they wanted to kill someone (with really no one missing the victim), kill Maggie. When was the last time that baby did a goddamned thing? But I guess people aren't too fond of baby killing in this country. Oh well... Just so that Milhouse and Lunch Lady Doris live forever, though not necessarily together as those May/December romances are also frowned upon by Americans.
-
Ned as a single parent may work for a while but I worry that it might get old soon and ruin the old formula. I will put my faith in the writers though, they have never let the show down. I have one more thing to say. Having Maude leave is bad enough but... PRINCIPAL SKINNER OR MOE! THAT IS RIDICULOUS! THEY ARE BOTH VERY IMPORTANT CHARACTERS. HOW CAN BART EXIST WITHOUT SKINNER? AND AS FOR MOE... WHERE WOULD MOES GO IF HE LEFT? HE IS AFTER ALL ONE OF HOMERS BEST FRIENDS. I THINK WE SHOULD PETITION THE REMOVAL OF ANY CHARACTERS! You don't have to believe but I'm not obsessed with the Simpsons, I am just a massive fan and admirer.
-
Has nobody noticed that Maude already has a new voice actress? I'm in Ireland, were about 5 or 6 monthes behind the states and even i've heard her new voice.
-
I don not believe this is actually a topic of conversation.
-
Let's face it - my typing skills would be a more interesting topic to debate.
-
I wouldn't mind if they kill Maude though. I doubt she's that important to the show.
-
I do like your typing skills. What do others think?
-
Puberty Boy (aka Squeaky Voiced Teen)! "This is coming out of my salary. If I had a girlfriend, she'd kill me." "I'd like to
see that. Ah ha ha ha..." "Well, he certainly showed me."
-
"Looks like it's suicide again for me..." - Moe Szyslak
-
I can't believe someone said that the "Bart jumps the gorge" episode was among the worst 5. I just don't understand. I hope Moe doesn't die. Homer at the bar is just too essential. I mean, where's Homer gonna go now to drown his sorrows. DAMN, I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!
-
...to kill her off when, as previously stated, she's even there? If this is the case, it seems hardly worthwhile, unless it's actually a major plot point.
Cheers,
Ames.
-
Er... wait a minute... What show are we talking about again?
-
I can easilly see them having a couple episodes with Ned dating and then next sweeps he gets married to a character that looks just like Maude and it's never mentioned again that this isn't the mother of his children.

You're whining about MAUDE? for fucks sake we lost Troy McClure
by grendel001
I can't believe that no body's mentioned that we'll never see Lionel Hutz (Attorney at Law) or (I'm) Troy McClure (you may remember him from such educational films like 'Alice doesn't live any more')
And for all who saw the simpsons have lost their way: did you see the Foucusin episode? "Mom, there are some side effects, my testicles won't fit in my underwear anymore."
I thought i was going to pass i laughed so hard.
Grendel -
I like that episode. I especially enjoy the duet between Barney and Moe. "Buy me a glass/A snifter of wine. Who am I kidding?/I'd drink turpentine."
-
OJ! What a brilliant answer! Unfortunately, this show is wayyyyy past its prime. Homer's long lost mother was the beginning of the end for me. I finally gave up after that terrible 007 season premiere.

Did anyone notice those 5 worst episodes are STILL funnier than
by all thumbs
The Simpsons should go for one more season and quit while they're ahead. Yes, ahead. They may not be as "CutCo-EdgeCom" cutting edge as they were during their first eight years (eight years!), but even these last two are a higher quality of comedy than most of the other networks are throwing at us. I just hope they don't turn the show into a one-hour drama in order to cash in on that genre's popularity. Hey, it could happen!
-
And I'll tell you why: because it would make Ned Flanders a lot more interesting. Picture "Old Paint Can" Neddy back on the dating circuit. That'd be pretty damned funny.
-
what are u talking about.....simpsons not funny anymore...what this is is the same thing that happened with seinfeld when it was about to leave the air..everyone started to put their noses upin the air and sniff and say "its ot THAT funny"
this season has been great...the season opener wit mel gibson(not 007 as was metioned earlier)the prozack, the birth of apu's babies....great episodes are still on..the show is still great and damn it that navy episode was great....
if u wanna be one of those people who think they have to kick somthing, kick somthing thats actully down for gods sake...like fraiser -
She is the hottest female character on the show. Remember that episode when Homer lusted after her? (I hope you all recognize that as an attempt at humor. I could never be physically attracted to a cartoon character. Video game characters are of course a different story.) I hope there won't be episodes in our future that center on Ned's struggles as a single father. Anyway, I'd rather lose her than Moe or Skinner, but I'd prefer that we lose none of them.
-
The woman who does Maude Falnders' voice isn't leaving the show, she's DEAD! SHE'S ALLLLLL DEAD!! Haven't any of you noticed that anytime Maude's ben on lately her voice has been different? Well that's because the woman who does her voice (along with Luchlady Doris, and various others) died some time ago. I can't remember her name or how she died, but I'm pretty gall durn sure she's kicked. So if it were Maude that dies, that'd seen kinda insensitive on the showmakers' parts. Why not just kill off Troy McClure and Lyonel Hutz while they're at it?
-
The best part about the Simpsons is that it's so jam-packed with great and obscure film/tv/book/cultural references that if you don't understand them it is your own damn fault. Learn something, then rewatch the episodes. There's a reason why Fox shows spun off from Sunday night almost always stagger around in circles for a few seasons and then die. The show should be proclaimed a National Treasure, and it just keeps getting better and better.
As for killing off the characters, they've done a great job so far in weeding out the annoying and pathetically earnest (Bleeding Gums Murphy, Dr. Marvin Monroe). Unfortunately, all three mentioned here are great characters. We seem to have lost a bunch with the Phil Hartman tragedy. Moe should stay because he's one of Homer's primary foils; Skinner is Bart's. And frankly, Maude kicks ass. The writers have a perfect thing going with the Flanderisis, and whacking Maude will result in all sorts of disruption of the Rodd/Todd/Flanders religious goodies. Say your prayers, Simpson, 'cause the schools can't force ya like they should.
Dammit, I wouldn't kill any of the characters. Well, perhaps Lisa, although then we wouldn't have the great episodes where she gets made fun of the entire time. -

The Simpsons will go on until they absolutely run it in to the g
by hairy moles
Remember around the 3rd season when Cosby went off the air? There's a tag at the end of an episode where Bart and Homer are watching Cosby. Bart: "Why did Cosby go off the air?" Homer: "Because the creators wanted to end the show before its inevitable decline." Bart: "Man, if I ever have a show, I'd run it in to the ground." Homer: "Amen, son."
I agree that even the worst episode of the Simpsons is better than 99% of all other television. I can watch the same episodes over and over. How many TV shows can you say that about?
And the 007 episode (the Scorpio episode) was awesome--how can you peg that one as one of the worst?!?!? -
The Simpsons is the most consistently funny show on TV, bar none. I'm almost sure the DOA will be Maude. I, for one, can't wait to see Flanders date. By the way, I know a guy who looks and acts just like Ned Flanders. Even sings in my Mom's choir group.
-
I am incredulous. "The Crepes of Wrath" (or as cited above: "Bart goes to France") is one of the finest episodes in the show's history. I am slightly biased because I am half-Albanian, but that episode is spectacular. The anti-freeze, the donkey, the child spy exchange, Bart's calling Homer a buffoon...it's all great. As for "Bart the Daredevil" (or as cited above: "Bart Jumps the Gorge"), that episode is excellent as well. Just the lion in the pool with the sharks and the presence of Truck-a-saurus alone make that episode great. It also has one of the best lines ever: "But the fact of the matter is: Bones heal. Chicks dig scars. And the United States of America has the best doctor-to-daredevil ratio in the world!" As for "Simpsoncalifragilisticexpiali-D'oh-cious", it's not a great episode, but that last song is very good. (They're not perfect,/ but the Lord says love thy neighbor/Shut up, Flanders/Okily Dokily do/Don't think it's sour grapes,/But you're all a bunch of apes,/And so I must be leaving you!)
-
What's wrong with the Mary Poppins and 007 episodes? There's just nothing very funny about parodying movies that can't be taken that seriously in the first place, have been parodied before, or are just too damn old to be relevant. James Bond films are often self-parodies, particularly some of the Roger Moore ones.
-
i love my simpsons. if they absolutly /HAVE/ to kill someone, i'm glad it's maude. although, maybe it should be mrs lovejoy. i mean come on! "think of the children! won't somebody think of the children!"
-
Simpsons slipping? Gimme a break, they're still hilarious. I've seen the same episodes numerous times and they crack me up each time. The recent 'Simpsons go skiing/Bart and Homer get leprosy' episode was a riot!
Although I'm a big X-Files fan too, I think they should make this their final season. There have been too many mediocre episodes this season.
And I'm glad to see Futurama was renewed because anyone who loves sci-fi and The Simpsons should see this show - it's hilarious! -
Moe: "I've lost my will to live."
Marge: "You've got alot to live for, Moe." Moe: "That's not what Reverend Lovejoy says."
Or something to that effect.I'm paraphrasing of course.
-
The most aggravating episode of all time is the Frank Grimes episode. While still being funny, it pointed out how disgusting, pathetic, and irritating Homer is.
-
If anyone needs to die, I guess Maude would be the best candidate. It'll be good to see "Ol' Painty-Can Ned" doubting the existence of God again. "Dang! Those gilded edges smart!" Besides, Skinner is Yin to Bart's Yang (or is it the other way around?), and what would our beloved Barney do if we lost Moe? Maybe he'd run the bar himself... Hmmm...interesting thought...BRRAAAAAP!
-
Probably one of my favorite Homer/Ned moments. Also, the episode where Homer steals the Flander's air conditioning.
-
I hope it is some kind of a joke becuz they cannot kill Maude. Not only is she Flanders' wife but she is the mother of his children. Her death will change whats funny about these characters. I know that they ar just cartoon people but that doesnt matter. If Moe dies, where will Homer and Barney go? If Skinner dies, who will Bart pick on and who will Skinner's mother boss around? If Maude dies, who will Homer take advantage of and pick on. Even Homer wouldnt pick on a guy who's wife died. There is no way they could kill those three characters without it having a lasting effect on the shows after it, which would be the downfall of the Simpsons. So logically, it would have to be what someone said earlier, about it being a joke until the very end when someone says Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz died. Thats sounds exactly like what the writers would do. This is a comedy. If any characters dies just for the sake of the sweeps, then it isnt a comedy anymore. It would be a drama. Ned dealing with grief over his wife and his kids dealing with losing his mother. Name one Simpson's episode that ended sad. If they kill any of those thre characters, then there is no way for the episode to not end sad without it not making sense. That would turn it into a drama. And I think the Simpsons is still funny. It is the only show that I could watch a rerun over and ovre again and sitll laugh. Favorite moments: When Homre took little Lisa to Moe's and she found a roach in the pickle jar. Moe asks if she's the health inspector and anothre guy answers I am. Moe then offers him a free drink, with which the inspector removes a syringe. Moe then says "It's a parasol!"
-
The episode where Bart goes to France as a foreign exchange student is one of the worse because near the end of the episode, Bart is a total wuss to the 5th degree. That scene where he's whimpering and crying for help after he's escaped, WHAT WERE THE WRITERS THINKING???? Bart is the ultimate trouble maker, not a wuss. Wuss may be realistic in some cases but Bart's not a normal kid. I would like to have seen him best the 2 French bad guys in a most radical way with Bartman laughing all the way, but oh well. Simpsons is still one of my favorite shows of all time. After Babylon 5, Crusade's early demise, and MST3K leaving the air in August, it's all I got left : ( And I still think it has had plenty of good episodes over the past three seasons. Right now I think the two ultimate Simpson's episodes are the one where Homer gets super fat to get on disability (my whole family gathers around whenever that one is on, hehehe) and ther one where Bart gets in trouble with Australia. Now THAT'S how Bart should have been like when he got sent to France. The way he was when he went to Australia. Too funny. Well, as far as Maude's death, yeah it's gotta be Maude. Groening only kills off minor characters Bleeding Gums and he knows it would be idiotic to kill off someone like Moe. And yes this is old news. A day old. I read it yesterday afternoon. Catch up, AICN. BTW, harry. If you're reading this, please get some new Ep. 2 info from that spy who told us it would be a "central character journey." Just a very general direction on part of the plot, whatever you can get. PLLLEEEAAAASSSE. Also, that "rumour" about those two british actors being the new sith is old news you printed this summer and nobody care cuz it obviously aint true. Oh yeah, and I hate Ally MacBeal, Providence, the pretentious Practice, Party of Five, MTV, VH1, and most of MSNBC, CNN, and 60 Minutes like evil itself. BTW, knowing that Brad Bird wrote/directed the Iron Giant and used to work on Simpsons and King of the Hill, what Simpsons episodes in particular did he work on in the past? Does anyone know a few?
-
...You're wrong! The original episode for Maude Flanders to die in was supposedly "Faith Off". Instead, Bart becomes a faith healer in that episode. Haven't you ever thought that the Simpsons' producers are just toying with you and not going to kill _anybody_?--Saulot--
-
but only in a really clever way, like have her be a stepford wife that malfunctions.
Moe is just too valuable a character to die, as is Skinner- but maude can get hit by a bus (maybe while Otto drives) and nobody would care -

by robot d.o.g
I agree that the Australian episode is one of the best ever. The Japan one is also great (Homer regarding fantastic toilet: "They're years ahead of us!" Mr. Sparkle is another fave. Sure there's a clunker here and there (going on the Springer show?--that's been done to death).
I have to disagree with the poster about 007 episode. That was such a strangely subtle parody of the Bond series that it warrants everyone's undying praise and devotion. Besides, it was before the Austin Powers hoopla giving it more credit for originality. -
I heard that Maude died in a restaraunt, after eating all the food in the restaraunt, and they had to close the restaraunt. Someone stole my juice money.
-
I can't fathom how they're going to turn a half hour comdey show into a show where a somewhat regular character dies. My prediction? Maude disappears in some horrible accident and is presumed dead. Shawn Colvin's character makes the moves on "Old Painty Can" Ned, and Ned is on the verge of giving into his sinful wishes when POOF Maude is discovered. If they really do kill her off for good, that will be one damn dark episode, even for the Simpsons. I don't think they get any darker than the Frank Grimes episode, but by God, they just might do it.
-
I totally agree with mjfilm20, or whatever his name is. This and last season of the simpsons just plain suck. They.ve just run out of ideas. This used to be the greatest show and just has gone down hill. HOmer with Alec bald win and k basinger? thAT has to be one of the worst episodes
-
Fine, kill Maude, but I am pissed that the actress also played Helen Lovejoy, the character with some of the series funniest lines (WON'T someone PLEASE think of the CHILDREN?)
-
The episode where Homer's mom comes out of hiding and then leaves him again has a sad ending- Homer sitting alone on his car. One of the best episodes! As for the Scorpio episode, it is in my top 10 favorites. I love the whole series, but as for the Bart/France and Springfield gorge episodes- they were both first season, and I really dislike ALL of the first season episodes. The show hit its stride in seasons 2-8 (!), but 9, 10, and 11 have had some real gems (Homer vs. New York), and I notice that even if they seem a bit lacking upon first viewing, they get better and better each time you see them.

Here's something to think about -- a REAL reason it might be Moe
by ariador
Think about it... for anyone who's watched the new episodes this season, Moe's already hinted at committing suicide at least twice. Once, in the Gary Coleman episode, where they have that all-too-sappy ending, where Burns is visited by ghosts and brings a pie, Moe decides to pull his head out of the oven and makes a goose instead. And recently, in the Brittany Spears episode, at the award ceremony when they're listing the accomplishments of the old man and it gets to how he helped people jump out of office windows during the Great Depression, Moe says "Out a tall window! That's a great way to do it!" Sounds like I've got a lot of time on my hands, well that's somewhat true, but I have these on tape and they're the ones I haven't seen countless times thanks to the wonders of syndication. So, although I think it'd be best if Maude went, it really does seem like Moe might be the one to go. Anyone with any thoughts?
-
The one thing I'd miss about Maude would be the jokes Homer makes from time to time: "Maude, eh?" 'Put that man out to stud...' "WOO-HOO! First up, Maude Flanders!" That would be most un-good, to end those occasional jokes. But I'd much rather see her go than Moe or Skinner. And in response to those who think it's going to be an excuse to tie off the Phil Hartman characters, Groening already said on TV after the murder that the voices of those characters would never be replaced by another actor. How awkward would that be for the characters to be in an episode and just never talk at all? Not impossible, but pretty damn awkward. On one final tangent, am I the only one wierded out by the uncanny Hartman-tone the guy who voices Zap Brannigan on Futurama does? ...Eerie. Maybe that guy would have filled in for Hartman, but after Groening's decision he was given the Futurama role as some sort of consolation? Just total speculation.
-
The show is as funny as ever, first of all. Second, I never laughed harder at a Simpsons moment when Moe has his head in an oven (on Christmas) with a sign taped to his back which reads "No Funeral". The only thing that comes close is when Bart tattooed "Wide Load" on Homer's butt and Homer sent him an anoymous death threat: "I kill You Scum". The first two seasons have many more clunkers than the most recent two.
-
EVERY EPISODE KICKS ASS, SOME MORE THAN OTHERS. HOW CAN YOU SAY THEY SHOULD END IT??? THE SIMPSONS IS THE BEST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENNED TO TELEVISION AND ALWAYS WILL BE! HOMER IS GOD!
-
I know there's probably no-one reading this after so long, but I wanted to say my little bit too. Although I'm an Aussie this is definitely NOT sour grapes - the Bart vs. Australia episode was the ABSOLUTE WORST Simpsons Ep. ever. It wasn't that the Yanks made fun of us, 'cause that would've been hilarious - if it hadda been CLEVER. It was that a) the whole episode is basically namecalling humour that repeats itself; and b) there was pretty much nothing in the show besides the koala that couldn't have been set in any other country or even any southern U.S. state. It pissed me off because it's such lazy writing. They were just irishman/pole/jew/englishman/insert ethnic humour joke here gags. If they had bothered to find out anything about the place it would've been a different proposition, but no. At least they know where the place is I guess, which puts 'em ahead of most Americans. I'm not being racist here, rather having a dig at your pathetic school system. It's not like you can actually miss the damn place on a map - it's only one of the biggest fuckin' countries on the planet. Aussies are HUGE Simpsons fans because it's one of the few U.S. shows that shares our vicious and dry sarcastic and ironic sense of humour. We get stuck into each other all the time, and we were really looking forward to getting roasted by the Simpsons, but then we got... this. It's not that we can't take the heat, it's that we expected another classic episode and received the most ordinary one ever. Not to mention some of the absolute worst attempts at our accent ever (o.k., that's not really fair. It's a tough one to do - even Meryl Streep could only manage a New Zealand twang). The only great jokes were the coriolis effect and 'rand mcnally' Even Yeardley Smith has said that it's the only episode she was ever embarrassed by. Homer quote for the day - "Yeeuurgh, dog water!"
-
Killing of Moe or Skinner would be really really bad, but who cares about Maude... I've always found here DAMN annoying...
Oh well, its not up to us to decide...

How could anyone have bad things to say about The Simpsons?!?!?!
by renzella
I can't believe it!!! I know there are cynical people out there, but come on, we're talking about THE SIMPSONS here!!! This show is without a doubt the BEST satire on television, and has been since it debuted. All the stereotypes, and niches of American society are played out here with hilarious effect and near perfect comic timing!!! The show can fluxuate between realistic, and even touching (past episodes showing Homer and Marge falling in love, having children etc.) to outlandishly ridiculous (Itchy and Scratchy robot island, the 'X-Files' episode), and it never EVER fails to make me laugh!!! For fun, here's my own list for the worst episodes:: 1. The Halloween episode where Bart has a twin, and Lisa makes a miniature civilization 2. The Babysitter Bandit 3. The Lord Of The Flies episode 4. ahhhh, hell. Its just too hard to nitpick The Simpsons!! About this killing off of a character, I hope and pray that isn't Moe!!! Renzella

There's my random Simpsons quote for a day. I think I have some Treehouse of Horror tapes stashed somewhere, I think I'll watch 'em. (or just the X-Files one.)

There has never been a bad episode. Any of the ones mentioned before were all great. Maybe some were better than others, but all of them are funny and this season is just as funny as past seasons. Homer is the greatest character in the history of television, live action shows included. It's obviously gonna be Maude that dies, just read Saturday's New York Post article in the TV section. It has an interview with the woman who did Maude's voice. It also has the title of the episode, which is something like "Alone Again, Naturadiddly". All signs point to Maude. Entertainment Weekly also says the character dies at a new race car track in Springfield. And to end with a quote from Homer (seeing the trillion dollar bill) "That must be worth a fortune!"
-
IF THEY ARE NOT POPULAR, THEY WILL BE KILLED(i.e. Dr. Monrow and Bleeding Gums).
-
Woemcats- I stand corrected. The one where Homer reunites with his mother was one of my favorites. Does everyone realize that it HAS to be a joke. This has been done many times before. It will never be the people that they give you. Remember South Park, who is Kenny's dad? Everyone was doing the same thing, arguing about which characters it was, knowing full well that it couldnt be any of them becuz it would change the comedy element of the show. And when the father was revealed, it was a cop out. His mother is his father. And what I meant by Hartman's characters is that they would never be seen or heard in the episode, but at the very end someone, most likely Lisa or Marge, would say "Hey did you hear, Troy McLure and Lionel Hutz died." This is exactly what the writers want us to do. They even gave us the perfect choices to argue on, just to make us feel stupid when we watch it. just like South Park gave hints that it was Mr. Garrison. If they did kill someone, it would never be the people they hint at. These types of shows thrive on surprising people and catching them off guard.
-
Neither of them are very funny. The whole "Won't somebody think about the children?" bit that Rev. Lovejoy's wife does is never funny. Wouldn't it be funnier if Ned's wife looked and acted perfect but was really a tramp?
Moe and Principal Skinner are really two of the more developed minor characters in recent years. They're really growing into their own. If anybody hasn't done anything or changed at all, it's Barney. -
If they are going to kill a Simpson, I think it should be OJ.

How could Moe be killed off. This would leave a hole in Homers life that couldnt be filled. Who would break legs in advance etc. As for Skinner, the bane of Barts existence, what would happen then I ask. Maude is lusted after by Homer so I put it to you that none should be killed.

I'll start my own cartoon... with black-jack... and hookers!
by the garbage man
Come on, isn't a little too obvious? "Alone Again, Natura-diddly" is the title of the episode, the actress who does Maude is leaving the show, and 2 days ago MSN had a picture of the Flanders family (minus Maude) around a casket. This all leads me to believe that it's NOT Maude. Don't you think they are just playing with us? Remember the "Who Shot Mr. Burns" episode? All of the characters they hinted at were innocent, they're not going to have all these leaks unless it's on purpose.
-
Wasn't the whole point of the Aussie-cliches to BE cliches? Surely people watching wouldn't think Australia actually LOOKED like that, or that Australians acted in the manner they did in the show?
It was supposed to be OTT in the same way that "Austin Powers" presents England in a way that non-English people expect it to be - and KNOWS it does it.
Does this make any sense?
Cheers,

by mr. shankly
Perhaps Maude dies because she refuses to join Mr. Sparkle. If they are going to kill off a cast member, there's only one man for the job: Fernando Vidal, the world's most devious assassin.

I have seen pretty much every episode from the begining up until the '98 episodes where everything went to hell. I watch them sometimes now, but I havent seen a good new episode in a long time. They all really are awful. I want to see something new. I am tired of every episode being centered on Homer's stupidity. Also there used to be some sentimentality in the episodes. Now there is zero just stupid jokes for a half hour. This Maude episode could help revive The Simpsons. Mix comedy and sentimentality in this episode and we may have the first good episode in a looooong time. If the writers cant do that I say throw the Simpsons into the coffin with Maude.
-
I swear I will be a one man riot all over the Fox studios or wherever the hell the people are that made that decision. Then they can show my destruction on another lame show called something like "When Fans Attack" or "Good shows gone Bad: The Aftermath"
I think they should kill Maude off and then have Rod or Todd go kindof crazy in a Norman Bates kindof way. Imagine all of a sudden everybody is scared of one of the holy brothers, even Nelson.
Now that could be funny!!!
But if they kill of Moe, it will be the end of them all!!!!
And thats a threat!!!! -

I don't care who they kill, as long as it allows for Phil Hartman's resurrection. Long live Troy McClure, Lionel Hutz, and Lyle Lanley! Juice Looseners for everyone! (Anyone wonder how they're going to deal with Mary Kay Bergman's death on "South Park?")
-
Killing Maude is a great idea. It's even funnier to have Homer torturing a widower. I don't understand it, though, God loves the Flanderses, why would he do that? Oh well, that's death i guess. Killing Skinner could be good too, he's a pretty bland character no matter how big a part he has in the show. And ever since the Tamzerian episode he's lost all beleivability. All he contributes to the show is his relationship with Supernintendo Chalmers. And they just can't kill Moe, he's grown so much in the past few years. For a long time I didn't really care for him, but now I find him a great contribution to the show.

Forgot to title that last one. Oh well.

When Kevin Smith came to Va Tech last year he mentioned in one of many a cool tale he told, that Maude was going to die. Now it was during a 4 hour long Q&A he stated this kernal of news. I forget the question someone asked to bring about that answer but I thought I'd chime in. Incase the title of the episode or the previews didn't give it away.

I was away from my usual weekly Simpsons time, so I taped it tonight. Wasn't that great of an episode, but kinda funny (being involved heavily with musical theater, I love any Simpsons with a musical number), but I did notice something I probably would have normally missed. If you look at the last shot of the preview with the casket being lowered into the ground, you notice that Ned and the boys are sitting down, looking quite sad. Usually, the seats at funerals are reserved for the mourning family, making you realize **ding** it will indeed be Maude Flanders. That is unless Fox is just trying to confuse us... it's happened before. One thing, even if Maude is not the one killed off, and they choose a more popular character, like say, Moe or Apu (which I would be rather upset about), it would definitely shake up the show, and that is something that is needed.

The Comic Book Guy was dead on: Worst Episode Ever. And they knew it.

I think I know who may die from the title, "Alone Again, Natura-diddly" I think Mr. Burns will die again, since the title says "Alone Again" meaning that smithers will be alone with-out Mr. Burns.
-
Okay, I don't think it's Maude. I am almost positive that as the coffin was being lowered into the ground, there was American military symbols on it. This could only mean three characters (I think) Either Grandpa Abe, Principal Skinner or Mr. Burns. These are the only characters that I can remember that have served in the armed forces. As for my favorite episode..."The Simpson children go into foster care." This is my favorite episode because I work in that field...and I know how children's services can have their heads up their own asses. There is no way the Simpson kids would have ever been placed that close to home (of course it was funny as hell). If it was real life, chances are they would have gone to Shelbyville.
-
I just remembered what my latest issue of ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY said in their "What to watch" column...to quote,
"A new Race Car track leads to a fatal accident......"
What Simpsons character likes to drive recklessly? OTTO!
Or Maybe Troy Maclure is driving a car to promote his new movie and ends up having a horrible accident when his car careens into the stands and everyone runs away but Lionel Hutz. -
Tonights episode was hillarious. Diamond O's was the funniest thing I've ever seen. And what was that one guy saying about the simpsons missing the heart it use to. I can remember one scene that has ever touched me emotionally and that was the last scene in the episode where homer meets his mother. That was touching. Snooch

BEST HOMER LINE EVER- THE ONE WHEN BART DONATES BLOOD TO MR BURNS AND HOMER WRITES A LETTER TO MONTY TELLING HIM OFF.
WHEN HOMER DISCOVERS BART POSTED THE LETTER , THEY GO TO THE POST OFFICE AND TRY TO RETRIEVE BY PRETENDING TO BE MR BURNS"HELLO MY NAME IS MISTER BURNS, I BELIVE YOU HAVE A LETTER FOR ME - ALRIGHT MR BURNS IF YOU CAN JUST TELL ME YOUR FIRST NAME - I DONT KNOW"
CLASSIC OR MAYBE YOU JUST HAD TO BE THERE! -
We all know that The Simpsons is the best thing on TV and has been for a while. I agree with what some people said in that the show has become about stupid guest appearances. Look at this year alone, Mark McGwire, that slut Brittany Spears, Eddie Munster.
And yes, while many episodes show Homer's stupidity, a lot of the time it's funny as hell (ie - When the rhino hooks Homer by the belt loop with his horn and crashes him into the porto pot). I agree that last nights "twist" of the jockey dwarves sucked, but there was other funny shit. Just the fact that they called Duncan the "Diving" horse and had the plank tilt automatically was hilarious, as was Homer's Vietnam story to the attendant.
As for who dies, Maude works and I think that is who it will be.
As for best episodes ever: Homer v. Patty and Selma, Lisa the Vegetarian, 22 Short Films, Who Shot Mr. Burns, Sideshow Bob at the Airshow, Cape Feare, Sugar Truck.
Best homer line: After he burns down the house, he gets on his knees and says this prayer that is hilarious.
That is all. More characterization, less celebrities. -
See it for yourself: http://www.aint-it-cool-news.com/display.cgi?id=3661
-
Did anyone else notice the way the horse leaned in and looked intersted while Homer was "horse whispering"? That was classic. God lives in the details.
-
You whining slugs. Rewrite the past all you want but the Simpsons has had dry spells in the past (YES, it HAS), and bounced back. Why in Goddess' name would you want it taken off the air? The episodes on a whole this year may not have been quite up there with the show's best, but there are still more than enough individual moments to make any episode better than ANY OTHER SITCOM ON TELEVISION. And this 'down period' has still had a few gems- Apu's octuplets and Homer the Restaraunt Critic come to mind ("No come-uppance!") That's why every other damn post in this TalkBack is quoting Comic Store Guy's line from the Keebler Jockeys episode- 'cause it's funny! Name another show on TV that gets quoted half as much. You can't. Some people just aren't happy unless they're complaining, I suppose. As witnessed by the ultimate embodiment of the fanboy, Comic Store Guy. "No, Aquaman, you can't marry her, she's from the surface world... Oh, I've wasted my life." See, it's FUNNY because it's TRUE. So, so true.
-
I cant believe that noone mentioned Dr. Nick Riveria; the most annoying character on the show. He is stupid. GET HIM OUTTA THERE!!!!! And the best episode in my opinion is the one with the Lemon Tree and Shelbyville. That was gold!
-
Killing a character usually (probably, always) is an idea used by writers who does not know what story to create next. It has been used a lot in comics, and never got the comics better than before (Superman's "death" is a good example). Killing Maude won't be a major change and, quite frankly, to have a funeral as an idea for a comedy show proofs of bad taste of the writers, darker jokes in the Simpsons used to be lighter and more intelligent, now they are mostly offensive. Simpsons was the best animated show for years, now it's just a good show with great characters, some good jokes but stupid stories. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy it and would be really sad if the show ended, occasionally great episodes are done, but mostly the writers doesn't spend too much time thinking about good premises. The "emotional" endings such as in Lisa's Pony and Duffless are gone, and now usually the show ends with a dark humor joke (the Frank Rimes episode was hilarious, but the ending...). To me, the really problem is the number of episodes that are made per season. 22 episodes are too much to produce when you only got good ideas for 3 of them. At least there's Futurama, one of the best animated shows nowadays that combines great characters, great jokes AND great stories.
-
The kids have just finished doing their pathetic little play to convince Burns to fund their bankrupt school. Burns' response is to send them dropping out of the room thru a trapdoor -- and they immediately fall back into the room thru a trapdoor in the ceiling, causing Burns to complain, "Oh Smithers - it's doing that thing again!" I totally, totally, COMPLETELY cracked up hearing that one (and if you force me to analyze why, well, it's the surrealism of the sight gag made even more bizarre by capping it with Burns' petty complaint)...

Anyone remember the episode that started with the INDIANA JONES
by stephen dedalus
Remember, when Bart steals the jar of Homer's change? Then Milhouse falls in love with that new girl, and they have have to watch the sex-ed video with the rabbits? FUCKING HILARIOUS!!!!!!!! I have never laughed so hard at any TV show in my life. I was hoping they would kill Ralph, though. You know, that retarded kid in Lisa's class? So damn annoying.
-
Hey uh, anyway i was just reading through all the posts, and when i got to IANMC'S i wept. that man, he can type a semi-colan that could really make you think. Sometimes i think one day i might be as good a typer as that ianmc guy,.. but i think that you have to be born with it you know? You can take classes, and you can practice, but ultimatley he is the master of the keyboard. One day i hope to shake his hand... or get his autograph, but if i were to ask him for one, i'd rather he typed it,.. the mans a fucking typographical genius
-
Okay well its kinda wierd, but i think the person whi dies is ianmc... that way he dies a martyr to all the typists that come after him,, its so simple, it was staring u in the face the whole time.!!!!!!!!!
-
Well i was just informed by a friend of mine that ianmc is not a character on the simpsons, making my last post look a little silly. Which makes me think,... maybe whoever dies should be replaced by ianmc!!!!!!!!!
genius i am a fucking genius. -
I know you die hard Simpsons fans say otherwise, but the show has dipped in quality and I know exactly when it happened: Season premiere a couple years ago, Homer has to get his car from New York. Started off great with Barney going nuts being the designated driver and went downhill from there. Ever since, it's been a crap shoot. Don't get me wrong, there's been some great episodes since, but I can count them on my fingers. It's really sad too. The Simpsons have always been one of the best written shows on TV (and killed South Park in wit and satire). That said, I'm glad to see Futurama keeping the tradition alive. If you wanna know where the sharp Simpson wit went, look no further than Futurama. Oh, and kill off Lisa so we never again have to see cheesy Lisa episodes.
-
Saw the preview to last's night episode. If you watch closely at the funeral scene, you'll see Ned, lame-ass Rod, dumb-founded Todd looking sad. Bye-bye Maude. P.S. Thank goodness is not Lenny!

I Will Always Watch "The Simpsons" No Matter How Bad It Now Is
by smilin'jackruby
I just read ALL of the posts and have to agree with one guy who was happy to watch them in syndication. It is really, really sad to say, but "The Simpsons" is just getting bad. If it had never been as great as it had been with Brad Bird, Jennifer Crittenden, and Jay Kogen working the show, maybe we wouldn't think it was slipping, but those people made a number of the mid-run seasons (3,4,5,6,7) absolutely incredible. Now, it's starting to slip and become more and more unbearable. But, I'll still watch it. Last night's episode was depressingly bad and made no sense. It used to be lodged in satircal reality, but now they just use contrivance and surrealism to fix problems. I know that I should respect the show and be happy that they are still going on (and that I sound like the geek who asked about the show during the signing in the Poochie the Dog episode), but the show's just not the same. This season has been a real low point. I apologize in advance for saying anything bad about the funniest show on TV, but it's time to shut it down and run four times a day in syndication.
-
Hey you guys remember when the smashing pumpkins were on the simpsons? now that was fucking genius. I think that when frank grimes died it was fucking aswome, as far as i am concerned you cannot call your self a fan of the simpsons if you are offended by the fact that they don't have a heart warming message at the end of every episode, i mean the simpsons even make fun of the fact that other t.v shows have those messages, i am sick to my stomache at the en of every episode where i think i learned something, or where everybody hugs...thats bull crap, if you want to see that shit you can watch reruns of growing pains or of family ties, the simpsons do have a mmessage at the end of every episode, but its not spoon fed to you and its not always a happy one.. the message at the end of the grimes episode was not so simple, but it was there. if you get it you get it, if you don't,.. well i hear that family matters is being re-run at suppertime on some channels... watch that and stay the fuck away from the simpsons,.. cause you don't get it, and you don't deserve to either.
-
ok, if the title is "Alone again, natura-diddly" how can one come to the conclusion that burns dies? They wouldnt kill him, he adds too much to the show. He's the third best character on there, #2 being the comic guy, and 1 being Homer. Anyway, who says Diddly? FLANDERS!!!! So obviously, flanders is going to loose his wife, natura-diddly leaving him alone. Oh well. BFD, who cares?
-
The comic book store owner was created LONG before Harry ever started this site. I think his first appearence was when Bart, Milhouse, Nelson, and Martin (those might be the wrong cahracters) put their money together to buy the first issue of Radioactive Man. That was at least six years ago.
-
If Mr Burns dies i'll have to send a mail bomb to Fox....he is without a doubt, one of the funniest, most entertaining characters in the show. some of the best episodes od the show have centered around him, and if he goes it'll never be the same again. oh and as for worst episode ever: i haven't seen the "jockey" episode yet, i live in Ireland, i won't see it for a few weeks...but in my opinion the worst episode ever was that shite one where bart stuck all this stuff to his face and marge couldn't bring lisa to this egyptian museum thing, so she took a bus and yada yada yada...homer and her hear music from an ancient egyptian egg at the end...i didn't laugh ONCE from start to finish. and i don't think anything could suck as much as that. and i wouldn't like to see Maude go either, okay so she doesn't play a big part but she has had her moments, "now wait neddy, the home buyers course said we should always look inside the house before we buy", and i don't know about you but i think her voice/accent is hilarious.
-
No kidding? Flanders says Diddley?!? Any simpleton knows that. I was using the "Who Shot Mr. Burns" as a reference, as it was a similar situation in which the hype and clues point to many characters, but the real thing comes from left field. My point was that it seems TOO OBVIOUS, with all of the facts pointing to Maude. Shiiiiiiit boy, learn to read.
-
Although I think the Simpsons still rocks as much as ever (though you might not think so from my earlier post), many people think they're sliding. My solution is - JUST TAKE A BREAK! I reckon there are or have been only three shows that could afford to take a year to recharge the ol' creative batteries and still have their audience when they returned (in recent history). 1. Seinfeld. 2. The X-Files. and 3. The Simpsons.
They should just take a year off and come back fresh, or do a 'Fawlty Towers' and polish the scripts to perfection, THEN make the shows. Just my humble opinion. "Mmmm, sacrilicious"! -
leslie nielsen is not dead. as for the simpsons, where the hell has sideshow bob been? we haven't seen him for 3 seasons!
-
"alone again, natura-diddly"? Burns? No way! who says Diddly? Flanders. who then would natura-diddly be alone? FLANDERS!
-
You people that didnt like that episode are nuts! It was so great! I mean..JOCKEY LAND!!! how could you not love it!? And when Furious D was diving...whew. In my opinion this has been a great season!
"We live in a fiberglass treeeee!"
-
To quote one Bartholemew J. Simpson, "Don't have a cow, man"!
-
My favorite episode will always be Frank Grimes or Grimey to his friends. It will be Maude, we'll get over it. As for the worst, the worst Simpson episode is still funnier then every other comedy show on TV. The Simpsons have everything going for it: Being a cartoon, their imaginations can go wild, no star egeos, and the kids never grow up (so no un-cute stages). I hear the voice talents have two more years left and then that'll be it. In my opinion, The Simpsons will go down as the best comedy show ever on TV.
-
...was one of the early ones, when the family got lost in the forest after buying a trailer. Other than that, they have all been funny one way or another. Remember when Bart sold his soul to Milhouse? "Oh come on, Milhouse! The 'soul' is something that adults make up just to scare kids, like the boogeyman or Michael Jackson!" By the way, there was an issue of Entertainment Weekly a while back where Groening listed his favorite episodes. Dang, I can't find it.
-
Da best show has got to be
da one where homer be lovin ned, G
-
Geez, when it comes to 'The Simpsons', it is virtually impossible to pick a favourite episode. You think you've got it, but then another one slips into your head, confusing you even more. After careful thought, I think I've finally narrowed it down to five episodes that I consider my favourite. These are:
5)- The episode where Homer gets a job at the bowling alley, but has to give it up when Maggie is born to support his family- love the 'do it for her' at the ending.
4)- The episode where Homer intentionally gains 300 pounds to go on disability. "I'm sorry, you're fingers are too fat for this phone. To obtain a special phone, mash the keypad now".
3)- The epsiode where Marge stars in the musical Streetcar Named Desire. Marge: "you know Homer, you COULD try to support me" Homer: "I know honey, its just that I don't care".
2)- The episode where Homer becomes an astronaut. This was just absolutely hilarious.
1)- The episode where Lisa is born, and Homer builds a clown bed for Bart. That stands as the all time funniest sight gag the show has ever produced.
Other faves include Who SHot Mr. Burns PART 1!!, The Be Sharps, The episode where Homer has heart surgery, and the Frank Grimes episode.
GOD, I LOVE THE SIMPSONS!!!!!!
-
Lenny. Why ahs everyone seemed to overlook the greatness of lenny? He kicks ass, and he is the perfect foil for homer at hte nuclear plant. Also, favorite episode- Homer becomes a hippy (when they aremaking the recruitment video, Lenny has some brilliant lines) and when that one guy, the guy who never got anything easy, hates homer!! soooooo classic. btw- is anyone else going to see "Snow day"? it was supposed to be a Pete and Pete movie, the second greatest surreal/ satire show after The Simpsons. Long live Pete and Pete!! And Lenny. Gotta love Lenny.
-
For me, it's when Homer goes back to college after inexplicably causing a core meltdown at the plant using test equipment. Some of Homer's best antics are in this show, plus Nixon makes an appearence, and Bart does a spoof of Quint's "I'll catch this fish for you" speech from JAWS. Bonus points for Homer fleeing a boring lecture to chase squirls with a stick.
-
How many times do I have to say it? I was using the Burns episode as a point of reference!!!! I NEVER SAID BURNS WILL BE THE ONE TO DIE!!! No fucking shit, Flanders says "Diddley"! I know that, dumbass! Haven't you heard of sarcasm? My point, for the last time, is that the clues TOO OBVIOUS, and it might not be Maude.
-
It likely will be Maude that is killed off, but it won't be the same having Ned and the boys greiving next to the Simpsons. It would change the show too much.
I agree with Bluetwin that Futurama is hilarious, but so are the Simpsons, and I hope they stay that way.
By the way, what ever happened to The Family Guy? I love Stewie, such a sweet kid! -
Sorry if my love of the Scorpio episode, couched in a rhetorical question upset you! I did not realize that my post would cause such trauma to your delicate psyche. I blieve you are referring to the following: "And the 007 episode (the Scorpio episode) was awesome--how can you peg that one as one of the worst?!?!?." I do apologize if my gratuitous use of question marks and exclamation points caused you any mental distress. Oh, and in case you can't tell, I'm being sarcastic. You stink! You are a senile, bucktooth, old mummy and you smell like...an elephant's butt!
SSZero, where do you come off with that violent rant against me? Are you completely insane? My original post was not even directed at you, jackass! -
the funny thing in the rino epsiode is that when they jump off the car you see a dead rino in the background. like if homer kept throwing peanuts he would have killed all of the rinos. hehe
-
Will they kill off Maude? Sure sounds like it from all the postings and "scoops",etc. But lets hope this is classic simpsons deception (Remember who shot Mr. Burns everybody!) If they are being sneaky, I bet Mayor Quimby could go...a major character...but easily replaced.
The show definately needs to work on character development and less on coming up with sitcom scenerios to fill with guest stars.
The Simpsons need to get CONAN O'BRIAN to write some more episodes!!!!
Best Episodes -- Lisa's Wedding, Softball Ringers, Monorail, all the halloweens (except the last 2), 22 stories, 1st Xmas episode, and many many more...
-
I think that the people who keep writing in talking about how the show should be cancelled because it is going down hill don't really understand the simpsons at all. I agree with them in the fact that many of the episodes over the past two or three seasons have been complete duds(but there have also been some great episodes in there too). Throughout the simpsons life-cycle there have been many ups and downs. And to cancel the simpsons would be a huge error, because I enjoy the fact that the writers are aware in the decline in quality of the episodes, and that the show is being run into the ground. But I respect that there will be great episodes along the way to the point where Matt Groening doesn't enjoy making the show anymore. Futurama is awesome, and I think killing off a simpson character will be a great way to get people to more readily accept the adding of new characters to the town of springfield(that is if the character wasn't maude, who doesn't really add much to the show anyway)
-
The actress who originally played Maude left last year, and her replacement sounds nothing like Maude should. My money is on Maude taking the ol' dirt nap...which is what they should've done in the first place.
By the way..."Homer the Heretic" is the best episode ever. With "Selma's Choice" and "Homie the Clown" in a tie for 2nd. -
I know that Maude Flanders is the one that dies. In the commercials for the episodes you can see in the background while the casket is being lowered that Ned is sitting by himself in the crowd. That can only mean that Maude is gone. Also in another version of that commercail Homer is sitting in the swings with Ned trying to comfort him: "It's not your fault. I'm the one who parked in the ambulance lane preventing all possible resucitation." (Ned glares at Homer, Homer gringes back in fear) "But I guess it's nobody's fault, really." Still, if they were going to kill off a simpson's character you'd think it be one of those voiced by the late, great Phil Hartman, God rest his soul. Well, that's all. "No TV and no beer make Homer something something."
-
I believe that there was really no indication what the Simpsons was going to do with the characters that Phil Hartman voiced (i.e. Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz) That is why I believe that any one of these characters may be the one that is killed. However, since there can be no new dialogue for these characters without bringing in a Phil Hartman impressionist, the character that dies would have to be someone who is still available to do the voice as well as a character that won't be missed like Maude Flanders.
-
It wasn't that bad.
Speaking as a Melbournian. But it wasn't as good as we were hoping. It was a pretty lame episode, as they go, but they ppl really making noise about it were the ppl who complain about a show without ever seeing it..
And calling us 'hicks'. Ouch. We have no Clituses here, mate. -
I don't know about everyone else, but my favorite character is Proffessor Frink. He's so damn funny! My favorite episodes include:
Lisa's wedding..The future angle was hilarious..
Fish Called Selma-Planet of the Apes-the Muscial--need I say more?
The Spingfield Files-Burns-"So what will you be doing this weekend Smithers? Something gay, no doubt."
"The following tale of alien encounters is true. And by true, I mean false. It's all lies. But they're entertaining lies. And in the end, isn't that the real truth? The answer is no."-Leonard Nimoy
-
The real reason the Simpsons is the best show around, and will remain so, is because of the underlying social commentary in almost every episode. No show has satired everything about life like the simpsons. EVERYTHING from medications, to rest homes, to hippies, to rock music, to alcohol and organized crime.... IT'S ALL THERE!! you can see refrences in almost every episode. no show will ever be like the simpsons. No show should ever TRY to be like the simpsons. Groening (sorry if i spelt it wrong, i speeell gudlee) is pure genius. I have said enough. goodbye everybody!!!
-
First, let me make the offhand comment that I am happy they put the entire opening credits back in. I was tired of constantly seeing them cut to Homer being chased by the car. By the way, am I the only person who noticed that Lisa plays a different tune on her saxiphone every week? ***Having said that, this is a suprisingly restrained episode. The subject matter was handled very sensitively, allowing us to actually feel compassion for Ned Flanders. I did notice, however, that Maude's voice had changed considerably in the few lines she had. Obvioulsy a different actress than usual. I also noticed that in one of her lines, she got mad at Ned for taking her to the race. Very uncharacteristic, seeing as the writers were obviously trying to throw in something to make her dislikeable, softening the audience's sorrow. ***By the way, am I the only one who found it a bit odd that they had two car commercials following Maude's death scene, plus one Hardee's commercial that was a spoof on car racing? And why would they hold the post-funeral service at the Simpson's house instead of Flander's house? And I don't remember Homer taping Maggie's birth in the episode where Marge had her (remember, Homer had to give up his job at the bowling alley?). ***Another interesting thing I noticed- when Ned is standing in church, there is a Christian retreat poster behind him. Could this be a reference to the episode where he, Maude, Homer, and Marge went to the Retreat lake to fix up their marrage, and Homer only wanted to fish? ***And did anyone notice who the three guys sitting next to the window in the dating service office were? You saw them just as the comic-book store guy (that character needs a name!) left. Oh well, that's all I can think of. But here's one positive side to the issue- episodes of Ned dating! Hilarious idea!
-
Honestly, I thought it was good. "Good" not as in "funny"- I didn't laugh my ass off at the episode. I did laugh at parts of it. But what I like the most is, for once, it's something DIFFERENT- it's not the same hackneyed formula. They can't go around killing someone off every episode, but for once, in a show where Lisa's gone on umpteen solitary crusades and Bart's been in the fourth grade for nearly eleven years now, something changed. I think this was one of the best episodes this season.

its safe to say that the simpsons will never relive its glory days from 94-96. this episode wasn't great but mainly that's because we have such high standards. i too don't like what they've done to homer but every character has fallen into its typecast role and there's no more humor to be exploited from them. there's some funny moments...cowboy monkey and the ivy league zing. but reminding us viewers of old episodes week after week only makes us mourn the passing of the great times. so now the simpsons is in its final stretch. we should be thankful to live in the time of the most intelligent tv show ever. watch the writers kill off every character until the show is done

I was reading my newspaper about a year ago and it said that Maude was going to die, so they can do more with Ned as a whole.
They must wanted to do that after that episode when Ned destroyed Maude's plant and everyone thought it was Maude.
Now the question remains...whodunnit? -
I dont know. I was one of the people who said that the Simpsons was still in its glory, but during yesterday's episode, I kept feeling that the show was near its end. I could just feel the lack of originality. Whenever a series resorts to killing a character just to get people to watch the show, that always marks the series eventual death. No one in the episode seemed to notice the fact that Homer is responsible for her death. The way she died wasn't very well done. I did not laugh at all during this episode. The simpsons is near its end.

I, like many others here, used our amazing powers of deduction to conclude that it would indeed be Maude Flanders who kicked the bucket, and not Hans Moleman, the little prune dude who can't see. Now bring on the porn!!!! All in all it was a good episode, not the best I had ever seen, but damn original! Hopefully this will be a stepping stone to better episodes reminiscent of the glory days, which I personally feel are still around.
