Rutger Hauer Joins James Marsters And Michael Jai White For METAL HURLANT CHRONICLES!!
“Metal Hurlant Chronicles,” which means “Heavy Metal Chronicles” in English, is apparently based on one or more of the stories found in France’s adult sci-fi comic book (a comic book sold in the U.S. as Heavy Metal).
Rutger Hauer (“Hobo With A Shotgun”) just joined a cast that also includes James Marsters (“Buffy The Vampire Slayer”), Michael Jai White (“Black Dynamite”), Joe Flanigan (“Stargate Atlantis”) and Scott Adkins (“The Bourne Ultimatum”).
Two dozen 30-minute episodes will be spread over two seasons, the first launching next April, the second next September. I gather this is headed for syndication a la “Legend of the Seeker.”
This photography may identify a “Hurlant” story being adapted:

...isn't a very big part of this as he is a series regular on Three Inches, whenever that is actually going to show up.
-
I very much doubt it....would be extremely difficult to pull off.
-
Nah looks like any number of generic stories they published.
-
There needs to be lots of nudity and sex with the brutal graphic violence, ala SPARTACUS!!! :-)

and anything with the word 'cronicles is either BAD, or GOOD but DOOMED. discuss.

Dude was the lead on Stargate Atlantis and you credit him with CSI? Seriously? The Atlantis CSI parody is better than the show itself.
-
I've watched nearly every episode of CSI and have never heard of Joe Flanigan before, so I looked him up on IMDb. According to IMDb, he has never been on CSI, but did ONE episode of CSI: Miami, in 2004. Why in the fuck would you credit, not only the wrong show, but a show that the guy was never even a regular cast member of?

Topical.

Metal Hurlant translates to "Howling Metal" --- not "Heavy Metal"
-
Yes, that is the translation. But the original magazine was bought for US sale, and rebranded as "Heavy Metal". The early issues of the 'Heavy Metal' magazine that still exist were just translated reprints of the French 'Metal Hurlant' magazine.
-
Here's hoping they don't completely waste these two martial arts masters and give us some great fight scenes....
-
The promise of Metal Hurlant was brilliantly realized through Ridley Scott's Alien and Blade Runner, which were made to look like the magazine, the Badass Artwork of the Mad Artists Phillippe Druilliet and, more famously, Moebius, and Dan O'Bannon's far out stories. Unfortunately, the American version veered from the hard/surreal sci-fi it was, and only focused on the T & A, reducing the audience to only the hardcore Michael Bay fanset. This is why when most people think Heavy Metal, they think "badass" in a grindhouse exploitation manner, rather than the hardcore sci-fi storytelling it was originally intended to showcase. i.e., more like Game Of Thrones than sci-fi porn. I mean...while the first movie was a cult hit, it's gratuitous, yes, even though it still has T and A, the stories were cool. Heavy Metal Fakk 2 was just...stupid. Kevin Eastman put himself and his girlfriend in the movie. he spends all day fucking a sex robot? stupid. Here's to hoping the show goes back to its' roots rather than to the T and A festival is has become.

made up as Moebius went along, from issue to issue, and still one of the most readable graphic novels ever, and coffee-spurting-out-of-nose funny in places. Never happen.
-
illustrated short stories and "comix" in Heavy Metal, it's a shame they haven't managed to translate the work into a passable movie thus far. I mean, seriously. Could you imagine seeing an accurate representation of a Richard Corben or a Milo Manara story on film? Hot stuff, baby.
-
The Rebirth short was fucking atrocious and the Legacy web series was a mixed bag. The fucking director has already said they won't be having fantasy in it, instead of going to be visually boring and SAW-like with Doctor Baraka rasta babylon.
