AICN Exclusive: Check out a Jason Eisener and Blackmagic Rollercoaster promo for THE ABCs OF DEATH!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. As you may be aware, many of the minds behind the Alamo Drafthouse and Fantastic Fest are gathering together to bring us an anthology horror film called The ABCs of Death.
Young up and comer genre filmmakers will each be making a short film tied to a letter of the alphabet. Tim League and his co-producers (including the Kiwi superstar Ant Timpson) have hand selected the sickest minds (including Ti West, A Serbian Film’s Srdjan Spasojevic, Nacho Vigalondo and Ben Wheatley to name a few), but are leaving one spot open for unknown filmmaker submissions.
The letter T is up for grabs! If you want to try for it, visit this website for details and to see what your competition is submitting. The winner gets a lump of cash and added to the anthology!
Jason Eisener and Blackmagic Rollercoaster (collectively known as Prayerzone) have made a little promo that is going out to the world soon, but they’ve given us the first look at it. This isn’t their entry, just a little taste of what you could do with the premise.
So, filmmakers, here’s your shot! Check out the madness below and if you think you can do better, then shut your mouth, grab a small crew and a camera and make your own!

The contest deadline is in two days. Good luck getting something done in time!
-
It's Halloween in two days? Where did the rest of October go?
-
Deadline to enter is in two days, on October 1st.

... Brian Cox.

Mine is called "T is for Temptation." It's about an over-eager girl scout trying to sell cookies to a serial killer and he is debating if he wants to tell her to get lost or just kill her. It stars the fantastic character actor Daniel Roebuck, from The Fugitive, Lost, Final Destination, etc. This is the first thing I've directed that's out there for the public, so I'd love to know what everyone thinks. Check it out! If you dig it, please throw me a vote. I could use it! Thanks guys! http://26th.theabcsofdeath.com/t-is-for-temptation/

I think tomorrow is the last day to enter, isn't it? Good luck with it!
-
Deadline is actually Saturday, but I'm still rushing to finish!

If y'all are interested in checking our entry in the competition take a look right here - http://26th.theabcsofdeath.com/t-is-for-tokophobia/ - we shot it on 16mm and made it extremely grim. I gotta say though that this is definitely not safe for work!

instead of the most talented filmmakers it seems. why does "sick" take 1st place ahead of "talent" ? Serbian Film, my ass. That comment about the sickest minds just cements what is wrong with horror movies these days. Fuck this shit
-
You ruined my weekend!

blech.

I guess these shorts can't be about implied or suggested violence (e.g., the sinister scrabble one was intriguing until the babe went all psycho).
-
I've seen some that were about implied/suggested violence rather than over the top gore. Besides, story matters. In my opinion anyway. Story matters, not buckets of blood.

Justmyluck, did you watch mine? The violence is implied there
by mfoul2422
Mine has quite a bit of implied violence, but little to no blood whatsoever. Check out "T is for Temptation" http://26th.theabcsofdeath.com/t-is-for-temptation/

I liked it! I love Daniel Roebuck, how'd you manage to get him? I don't wanna say whether or not mine has implied violence or straight-forward violence. I'd rather it be a surprise. Good luck buddy. Glad to see some other non-professional filmmakers here in the talkbacks!

I watched it - my thoughts were that it had a good CREEPSHOW-like twist. Those girl scouts, or boy scouts, can indeed project a particular type of quasi-malicious guilt onto adults during those cookie sales or various fund raising drives. The violence was after the fact and not shown, but there is at least one murdered child. If you're a parent, that's probably more disturbing than slasher horror. Was that girl being prepared to be mummified, like the other standing child seemed to be? Perhaps that other girl was like the shot and standing, zombie-like, detective in BLUE VELVET? I found that puzzling, but it's not like you have to resolve the adult psycho's M.O. for the audience. Overall, I think T IS FOR TEMPTATION is a strong submission for the *T* contest, and I especially liked the mental state P.O.V. shot of the girl scout extending the tray of cookies.

That our short is played to be horrific. Very horrific anyone interested should check it out here and please vote for us too! http://26th.theabcsofdeath.com/t-is-for-tokophobia/

Thanks for checking out the short! Justmyluck, I see what you're saying about the dead children being pretty disturbing. While we were filming, we were considering putting in some footage of the killer hacking them up, but decided not to include that footage and leave it more to the imagination of how those kids got that way. That's sort of what I meant by implied violence, in that we could have gone a lot further. I think that the general idea we were trying to get across is that this guy kills the kids and then stuffs or mummifies them, but you're right in that we thought in a film like this, no real need to explain it. You just realize that this dude is a pretty sick puppy. D. Vader, I am also a big fan of Daniel Roebuck and have been for quite a while, so it was a thrill to work with him. I've been working in LA as an assistant and things like that for a while and one person I work with happened to know him, so I asked if he could make an introduction and he did. Daniel is just a really nice guy and agreed to help us out. The funny thing is he is a very busy character actor and actually had to shoot another movie on the same day he did ours, so we only had him for a few hours that morning, then he had to go and shoot something else in the afternoon. Luckily, he's such a pro that he nailed all of his stuff very quickly and we were able to shoot him out in just a couple hours. I can't sing his praises enough because we really hustled him around and rushed from shot to shot to get him done as quickly as possible and he was totally fine with it and was even joking around with the crew and keeping the little girls entertained between takes, which really helped to keep them upbeat. Really great guy to work with!

Best one I saw!
