Merrick here...

The following truly breaks my heart.

DOCTOR WHO CONFIDENTIAL - an ongoing "Making Of" show which has accompanied every single episode of DOCTOR WHO since the beginning of Russell T. Davies' revival era in 2005 - is being canceled by BBC.

THIS article in The Guardian reveals that...

...with the corporation facing budget cuts of up to 20% across its output as part of its Delivering Quality First initiative, BBC controller Zai Bennett has chosen to axe the show at the end of its current series.

The sad news is echoed via CONFIDENTIAL producer Zoe Rushton's Twitter account as well as the DOCTOR WHO News Page

DOCTOR WHO CONFIDENTIAL has been uniformly fascinating and insightful - and paradoxically managed to present even lesser episodes of WHO proper as worthwhile case studies.  In my early days of DW fandom, CONFIDENTIAL was instrumental in my getting a sense of the "hows" and "whys" of the show's production. It was invaluable in my grasping many elements and personalities important to contemporary WHO, and CONFIDENTIAL's  early exploration of retro-WHO was a hugely valuable asset when I was attempting to find my footing with older episodes.

This news is like a gut punch.
