Fox Developing Series
Based On DC Comics
Superhero THE SPECTRE!!

I am – Hercules!!

First the good news. Undaunted by the failure of “Human Target,” the Fox network is now developing with Warner Bros. one of the most badass properties in the DC Comics library: The Spectre.

A dead cop who serves out his afterlife as the semi-naked Instrument of Divine Vengeance, The Spectre is one of the most powerful beings in the DC universe and possessed of nearly omnipotent power.

The character was created by writer Jerry Siegel (“Superman”) and artist Bernard Baily (“Hourman”) in the February 1940 issue of More Fun Comics.

For most of his DC Comics career, The Spectre was the alter ego of murdered cop Jim Corrigan. When aviator Hal Jordan, the Silver Age Green Lantern, was killed, Jordan served as a new Spectre between 1999 and 2005, when Jordan was resurrected and reinstated as a Lantern. The current Spectre, if I’m not mistaken, is murdered Gotham City police detective Crispus Allen.

Now the bad news. The man chosen to oversee the project is one Brandon Camp, writer of “Dragonfly” (3% positive among top critics at Rotten Tomatoes) and writer-director of “Love Happens” (resting comfortably at 4% at the same site).

Camp also co-created with “Love Happens” writing partner Mike Thompson the short-lived 2002 Fox series “John Doe,” which I found exceedingly dopey.

Brandon Camp is the son of Joe Camp, who grew wealthy writing and directing between 1974 and 2004 five movies and a Saturday morning TV series about an adorable mixed-breed hound named Benjy.
