Fellow Brit Jamie Benning isn't just the man who uploaded the JIM'LL FIX IT/THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK clip that Quint posted the other day and perhaps read a little too much into, no. He stumbled upon such a video because he has spent the last five years meticulously putting together three award-winning, feature-length documentaries – or filmumentaries as he likes to refer to them – that act almost like visual commentaries for the original STAR WARS trilogy.
Having made one non-profit fan doc for each of the prequels, first BUILDING EMPIRE in 2006, then RETURNING TO JEDI in 2007 and STAR WARS BEGINS in February of this year, Benning has rather innovatively created an alternate way to watch A NEW HOPE, THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and RETURN OF THE JEDI by taking interviews, deleted scenes, behind the scenes footage and more, and piecing them together with the stories as they unfold to make the ultimate commentaries. Now, if you like what you see or you've indeed already watched all three docs and have acquired a taste for more insightful fan films, you may just be happy to know that Benning is currently in the process of making a RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK filmumentary in the same style of his previous three, and he has shared the trailer and a sneak peak with us:
