Arnold Schwarzenegger Gets Held CAPTIVE!

Nordling here.

Arnold Schwarzenegger looks to be pretty busy now that he’s turned back to acting – he’s got THE EXPENDABLES 2 and THE LAST STAND to film, and now he’s in talks to star in CAPTIVE.  CAPTIVE centers around a wealthy magnate who finds himself kidnapped and held prisoner in a landfill.  As he desperately tries to escape, a police detective pulls out all the stops to find him.  No word on casting for the detective but Schwarzenegger would be playing the magnate.

There is no word of a director yet, and as this is an independent production, no word on budget.  I have to say, I like this hungry Schwarzenegger.  These three projects that he’s involved in seem to be going back to everything we loved about the man, and he either doesn’t care about the age factor or he’s trying to get in as much as possible as soon as possible.  Whoever they cast as the detective would seem to be something like Tommy Lee Jones to Harrison Ford’s Fugitive, and I’d love to see a really good character actor, or even another action hero, take the part.  I bet someone like Dwayne Johnson would eat that role for breakfast.  I love how Arnold handed the reins off to the Rock in THE RUNDOWN – it’d be quite something to see them together in an action thriller like this.

Nordling, out.

    by Rupee88

Since when do those work? Yeah The Fugitive is an example, but Harrison Ford is a REAL ACTOR, not like Arnie who was there because he was big and muscular and had some screen presence.

  • Sept. 9, 2011, 5:24 p.m. CST

    by Judge Dredds Dirty Undies

Hes already getting back into shape, so have no fear. I am really looking forward to the last stand, nice to have Arn working with a director with some edge again. Glad he already has another on the backburner, hope they get another interesting director to helm.

  • Sept. 9, 2011, 5:34 p.m. CST

    =but Harrison Ford is a REAL ACTOR=

    by KilliK

nope he aint. he is like Arnold too, using charisma and screen presence to sell his characters and movies. He is talented but he hasnt been a real thespian artist for years now. And in the Fugitive he did the same character that he does almost in his entire film career: ordinary, successful man and a good family guy and husband who turns into a hero which you can relate to him.

  • Sept. 9, 2011, 6:03 p.m. CST

    The Rock

    by vicmackey1268

Would fantastic...especially if he was the same as in Fast Five...what a badass...I'd go a little easier on the fake swear (aka lube) but other than that he was a beast. And the Rundown scene was what put the entire movie in perspective...it's a light-hearted action film...the Arnold part made zero sense in the film but it was damn fun and I laughed along with everyone else in the theater. And his 3 films sound great...provided, like the Nord-dawg said, the right badass actor fills the shoes...cuz a no-name would be horrible direct to dvd JCVD style

  • Sept. 9, 2011, 6:09 p.m. CST

    killik..

    by vicmackey1268

I respectfully disagree...he did in almost every film what he did in The Fugitive...before then he really hadn't done that type of role...Witness was completely different as was Frantic, Blade Runner, etc... Since then yes it's all been shades of Fugitive, but Fugitive is what made him...just like after Tommy Lee Jones won an Oscar for that film he's been playing the same role in tons of films. I would love it if Ford got another Mosquito Coast-type of movie to actually act in, but the old guy wants to have fun, and in his next western I think he'll do just that...so far I'm having fun watching it.

you know "time to take out the trash" will be a line somewhere in there

  • Sept. 9, 2011, 6:34 p.m. CST

Fugitive is what made Harrison Ford?

    by Hipshot

Ummm...if you asked 100 people on the street to name a Harrison Ford role, you think they'd say Dr. Richard Kimble over Indiana Jones or Han Solo? That's...interesting.

  • Sept. 9, 2011, 6:40 p.m. CST

    I shall explain...

    by vicmackey1268

before Fugitive and after yes he was Han and Indy...he will always be Han and Indy....but the character he played in Fugitive defined his character choice for the rest of his career...excluding the pile of trash Crystal Skull... What I meant was that when we think of Ford's choice of character it's all rooted back to Fugitive-typecasting....of course Han and Indy made him, very poor choice of words by my part.

  • Sept. 9, 2011, 6:46 p.m. CST

@vicmackey1268 as i said he is talented and at

    by KilliK

some point in his career he did try to show this talent by doing other, diversified roles like in the Mosquito Coast. But eventually, after his try on different roles failed, he went back to his usual cinematic MO. And no his character in Fugitive didnt typecasted him,he had already done the same character in previous movies: Frantic,Patriot Games,Presumed Innocent, etc

Cry Macho's plot revolved around a washed-up, middle-aged guy named Mike Milo whose wife (an ex-journalist, no less) left because of his many affairs. He ends up going to Mexico, in order to perform a task for his boss: Kidnapping the 11-year-old son his boss once fathered out of wedlock. Along the way, Milo falls in love with a Mexican woman. That's just the basic overview, but there are other similarities to Arnold's real life which would make it a nightmare for him to try and promote anytime soon.

    Arnold is crazy smart

    by Hipshot

And if he can surround himself with smart people to help him make choices, and go with his instinct, he'll find a way to make this happen. Remember: he succeeded in the top 1% of several different fields: 1) Bodybuilding (considered best ever) 2) Gym ownership 3) Authorship (bestselling fitness book) 4) Movie Star (biggest in the world at one time) 5) Politician (being elected to Governorship of the 8th largest economic entity in the world, at least--the question of his success in office is separate) 6) Married into one of America's "royal" families. 7) Wealth. Personal fortune estimated at around half a billion dollars. ## Success in any one of those arenas would suggest he has quite a bit on the ball. Three of them would be phenomenal--especially combining the marriage, the bodybuilding, and the movie career. But he went beyond that, and I would NOT count him out. In terms of practical, rounded, real-world ability he is probably more capable than anyone anyone on these boards has ever met. He MAY be finished...but betting against him just isn't very smart.

    Interesting concept....

    by Arcangel2020

Definitely looking forward to seeing Arnold back doing films and I am definitely interested in seeing what kind of bigger role he will have in "The Expendables 2" "Captive" sounds interesting and I am interested in seeing how this one progresses and is done. I think the idea of casting someone like Dwayne Johnson is not such a great idea...he was ok as the Cop protagonist in this past summers "Fast 5"....but...to see him in another Cop role? Mehhhh....I am thinking someone along the lines of like maybe....a new more relatively Unknown kind of actor or maybe even have an actress in the role? That would be interesting!

  • The only thing they have in common is that they're similar ages, after seeing Harrison's grizzly turn in C&A i can say he'd out act Arnie in his sleep.

The King Conan project has been dead for years. Even when Avi Lerner considered bringing Arnold back around 2008/09, Lerner wasn't planning to use the old Milius script. Regardless, after the latest box office setback, I doubt any studio will attempt another Conan film for a very long time.

    my Arnold rant

    by LLL

I'm torn. He's been a part of some really great movies. Terminator 1 and 2, Conan, Predator. He's also done some terrible shit, like uhh... everything else. (for the record... Total Recall deserves remade and I never say that about anything) That being said... My support for Arnold is dead. You can bitch and whine about the Rock, Vin Diesel, etc etc but the 70's gave us some great variety in film and then suddenly that changed. The 80's are when the mindless blockbuster shit started that we all know and hate now (see: Transformers) and as much as nobody wants to admit it... it was Arnold who blew those doors open. Sure, Star Wars was a hit and so were Jaws and other movies before Arnold but those were actually made by talented people. Arnold was the first big name actor to crack the code: It doesn't have to be GOOD in order to make money. It just has to be BIG. He was a BODY BUILDER w/ ZERO acting ability getting A list roles and we ate it up and begged for more. Now we spend all of our time bitching about those things while conveniently giving Arnold a free pass... but face it: We are all to blame for every body builder, WWE wrestler, and rapper who battles aliens, becomes a nanny or tooth fairy, or plays a hitman coming out of retirement for "one last job". Yeah. We can thank Arnold for that. I know it's blasphemy but it's true. Oh, and he and Hulk Hogan are totally neck in neck in the "Which 80's icon can piss away his credibility faster?" race. My support for him is gone.

    Arnold was lost in CA..

    by krylite

after the unions outvoted his last rounds of public propositions. Then the liberal media machine kept posting how many millions was used to run those popular vote propositions. But the union members (probably every one of your neighbor's neighbor) came out to vote and knocked down all of Arnold's proposed cost cutting. Face it, it wasn't totally Arnold's fault. CA has the largest % of people on the state dole. They can buy second homes and "retire" early and move on to part-time jobs while still collecting unemployment every year for the months there's "no work". That said, Maria's a Kennedy and together with Ted probably kept him leashed in the planet of the apes-leftists. Drove him crazy and drunk into that fugly maid's arms. that said, I want to see a Terminator 5 done right with Cameron back and Arnold. If not Cameron, then Ridley Scott. It would only be fair since Cameron sequeled Alien.
