Repost! AICN's Wide World of Webseries gives a mid-season review of THE GUILD!!! This time with the 7th episode attached!!!

SJimbrowski here with another report from the Wide World of Webseries. Nerding out at the convention is awesome.

We are about half way through another season of THE GUILD. If you do not know the series chances are if you are reading this site you are most likely the target audience of the series. So you are sitting surfing the internet on reddit or raiding with your guild, do you ever wonder who the people are on the other end? If so voila THE GUILD, a group of gamers with varying shades of is social maladjustment who have meet in real life. Thankfully they are not the butt of the joke rather their interactions with each other garners all the humor, with other characters thrown in to mix it up. At 4 seasons and over 100 million views, it is the gold standard of webseries and if you watch you’ll see why. The humor relevant to all our lives online and our interactions with others no matter how awkward they might be, they are a crew of people far too obsessed with a game (geee I am sure no one can relate).

In the fifth season they all got in the guild leaders (very creepy) van and went to a convention, again no relatable points here, minus the creepy van. Most of the action this season takes place in Megagame-O-Ramacon, or fictional convention, which allows for a whole new set of interactions with all the interesting people you meet there. The first 4 seasons had a lot of shots with the characters looking into webcams and talking to each other, this season is bit more open and ambitious with a host of extras and celebrity cameo’s. They all fall into their own worlds at the convention (spoilers following), Zaboo becomes the master of the Seat-Savers network, something any convention could use. Tink cosplays every episode so as not to be recognized, mostly so keep her distance from the Guild or perhaps another reason. Clara sees something shinny so, being prone to distraction gets involved in steampunk. Vork makes money off pimping Bladezz out for fan video’s with his internet meme “the pirate kid”. Codex unknowingly insults the creator of the game and spirals into self-doubt and worry about what she might have caused. The cameo’s garnered in this season are impressive and last week’s episode was none other than Nathan Fillion, Malcolm Reynolds himself seeking advice on an “internet strategy” from Vork who dismisses him as Bladezz strains to make a connection.

This week’s episode “Downturn” the 7th of the season features Neil Gaiman (THE SANDMAN) seeking convention help from the master of the Seat Saver’s network Zaboo. Doug Jones who character work Hellboy and Pan’s Labyrinth was pretty amazing returns not in a costume or eight hours of makeup but as a steam punker with Maurissa Tancharoen (co-wrote DR HORRIBLE SING ALONG BLOG, and DOLLHOUSE) I am not much of a steampunk fan but they take themselves so wonderfully seriously and they have shiny things so Clara is a convert. Vork is smitten by something other than filthy lucre in Erin Gray (BUCK ROGERS IN THE 25th CENTURY) at the convention with Richard Hatch (BATTLESTAR GALACTICA) to fill out nerdtastic cameo’s so far.

Season, 5 Episode 7 “Downturn” will air on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at 12:01 AM PT / 3:01AM Et on MSN. Is it me or is the release schedule designed to torture everyone but the deepest of night owls? For the impatient and Xbox/Zune enabled the episode is available now on those platforms.
