I think The Behind the Scenes Pics of the Day is a couple cans short of a six pack!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!
Well, well, well. If it isn’t time for a new picture… or pictures, in this case. The Terminator is a landmark movie, no question. It not only set a standard for quality low budget sci-fi/action it also launched the careers of some of the biggest icons in the entertainment world. Sure, Schwarzenegger was coming off of Conan, but it was The Terminator that took him from known to star. James Cameron made a splash with his film and followed it up with a series of hands down amazing movies.
What impresses me the most about The Terminator is that unique, gritty feel. I don’t know if a young filmmaker could make something like that today and I’m not just saying that like the angry old dude shouting for kids to get off his lawn. With HD being the norm filmmaking technique has had to give the impression of realism. It’s vérité style, like Paul Greengrass’ work or how Neill Blomkamp shot District 9, that gives a movie a feeling of reality now instead of the feel of film grain on cheap stock. I miss the old days when you could have a movie be a movie and still capture a grounded, dirty world feel.
Great, now I did just turn into the grumpy old man who thinks today’s kid’s don’t know what real quality is!
What I do know is that these two images of Arnold Schwarzenegger during the promotional photoshoot for The Terminator are really cool. It’s a different kind of BTS image, but an interesting one, I hope you’ll agree.

But the thing Arnold is doing with his foot in the first photo is a little gay....some weird german male model shit where he's pivoting his foot. But that's what makes me love these.

were the films that made me realize action movies were amazing...yes there were others but this was the first film that I snuck out of the library and watched on a dirty old VHS when my mom was at the store and wow...blew my mind. T2 is a better film imo...but I still get chills seeing the terminator, freshly blown up, walking fast towards the door as they're trying to close it and its RIGHT ON THEM before it shuts...scares the crap out of me what was it about that incredibly fake stuff that still scares?

lack the kind of realism,grittiness and authenticity that the old movies,especially the ones from 70s-80s,had.It's a shame really.

The Tech-Noir bar scene with the crap ass music would have turned into the bottom picture with Arnold all nacho cheesy disco dickin' it. Scary to think how easily the first Terminator could have been fucked up in any other director's hands at the time. Cameron wrote what he wanted and pulled off a movie miracle on slim budget.

The quote is from one of the very first scenes, when a newly arrived Arnie arrives butt nekkid in Griffith Park and gets jumped by a gang of thugs, including a very young Bill Paxton (whom I believe is the character who utters the line).

On a Colt .45 long slide at that, which isn't much more accurate than a bb gun. It looks cool, but a .357 magnum revolver makes more sense for a machine that does its own targeting.

Linda Hamilton's evolution in The Terminator from regular girl to hardened woman, spouting "On your feet, soldier!" was great to watch gradually unfold. And yes, renting on the sly and watching this movie on worn-out VHS as youngster was a thrill. Seek out and rent The Exorcist on its oldest VHS release, and watch with The Terminator, for a thrill-chill, grain-a-thon double bill.

The punks were just hanging out at the observatory, drinking, taking turns looking at the sky with a telescope (you know, like punks do), when a naked weirdo showed up. They didn't jump him. They thought he was a hilarious crazy guy and razzed him a little, and when he demanded their clothes they decided he was an aggressive asshole and showed knives to attempt to deter him. The punks were totally victims.
