The Writer Of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES Wants To Bring You A New BEETLEJUICE Sequel!

Nordling here.

I haven't read Seth Grahame-Smith's PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES but I did read ABRAHAM LINCOLN, VAMPIRE HUNTER, which is currently being adapted into a film by Timur Bekmambetov.  I enjoyed ABRAHAM LINCOLN, VAMPIRE HUNTER very much - it's not done for laughs so much as it's just a really cool read and a lot of fun.  Well, Grahame-Smith isn't going anywhere when it comes to movies.  He's formed a production company called KatzSmith Productions with David Katzenberg, and have just signed a two-year deal with Warner Brothers.  One of the films on their slate?  A sequel to Tim Burton's BEETLEJUICE.

The Deadline article states that the two are not interested in remaking the film, but "reboot(ing) it by advancing the storyline of the original."  That's what they used to call a sequel, if I remember correctly.  No word on whether Burton would be involved, but as Grahame-Smith did some work on the screenplay to Burton's DARK SHADOWS, I can't imagine that he wouldn't be.  "We want to make big movies based on big ideas and inspired by the comedies we grew up loving,” Grahame-Smith told Deadline.

No word on whether any of the principals from the original would return, but BEETLEJUICE without Michael Keaton would be a travesty, considering he's still around and as good an actor as he ever was.  And, like THE EXORCIST, BEETLEJUICE just keeps getting funnier every single time I see it!   The idea of that cast returning to one of the best horror-comedies ever made sounds really terrific to me.  How about you all?

Nordling, out.
