of it already. Superb it is too.

  • ..She is professor at Shanghai Normal University and was doing her dissertation on Robert Van Gulik (author of the Judge Dee series) and periodically asked me for help translating Gulik's papers on the Gibbon monkey (always wondered if she was probing for racist inclinations)....She had all of the Judge Dee books in her library and I usually derided them as Gulik's attempt to exploit the Charlie Chan market (Which might help explain the change here from "Judge Dee" to "Detective Dee") Finally, I sat down and read 2 of 3 of the books and found them pretty entertaining..Enough that I began a few sketches of ideas about films..I definitely saw the potential in the books...She just recently left for Holland, Gulik' s home and where her son "Sean" ("Xiao" from her marriage to a Chinese man) was enrollied for college....We broke up because I wanted children and she was at an age wher it was inadvisible.. Gulik has an interesteing story..Mostly the privillaged son of a foreign military officer in China....Also an accusation my ex would superimpose on me..Gulik's privillage made him a Lothario...(She loved that word, "Lothario")...I never was though with her....It's kind of sad we won't be discussing this film..It will be released the day before my birthday. Synchronicity II: revolved around the class I did exclusivily on The Lone Ranger....Shortly after that "The Lone Ranger" film was announced... I was pretty glad when that film got canned..It was a baby project of mine.
