ScoreKeeper Lets Off Some Steam With A NEW Release of James Horner's COMMANDO!
Greetings! ScoreKeeper here with a quickie but a goodie. At 1PM PST (4PM EST) today La-La Land Records will start taking orders for a new limited edition release of James Horner's score for COMMANDO. I just ran my latest soundtrack roundup article last week which was chock full of jaw-dropping new releases including a few "holy grails" that really sparked interest amongst fans.
COMMANDO (1985) is another mega-in-demand title that is sure to go fast. Varese Sarabande released an album a few years back and it sold out fast. Since this new release from La-La Land Records is limited to 3000 copies, I'd suspect it will go quickly as well.
Don't miss out on James Horner's crazy steel-drum action concoction. Click here for audio samples and ordering information.

Presenting the return of acclaimed composer James Horner's (STAR TREK II: WRATH OF KAHN, 48 HRS., TITANIC, AVATAR) legendary score to the 1985 Twentieth Century Fox actioner COMMANDO, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rae Dawn Chong and Alyssa Milano and directed by Mark L. Lester. Horner's propulsive orchestral, steel drum-laced score builds on his 48 HRS. motifs, resulting in the perfect, high-octane accelerator for Schwarzengger's unstoppable, death-dealing assault. Remastered and expanded with bonus alternate tracks, COMMANDO is back and sounding better than ever. Also featured is the unforgettable end credits rock anthem "Someday, Somehow, Someone's Going To Pay" (AKA "We Fight For Love") performed by The Power Station. Produced by Nick Redman, restored by Mike Matessino and mastered by Daniel Hersch, this dynamic release is limited to 3000 Units. Film music writer Jeff Bond provides captivating in-depth liner notes, featuring comments from screenwriter Steven E. de Souza and co-writer/lead vocalist on "Someday, Somehow, Someone's Going To Pay," Michael Des Barres. Plus, it's a total retread of Horner's 48 Hrs. score, only with inexplicable Caribbean steel drums(?!) layered on top. I had the Varese disc, and traded it away after a single listen. This is one of those 80's genre scores that collectors crave only because it was attached to a silly action/sci-fi movie they loved as kids.
-
Especially during the scene in which Matrix assaults the general's compound. A much better soundtrack than say, Avatar.
-
I'll need this soundtrack just in case my daughter is ever kidnapped by an ex-member of my special forces team, who likes to wear chain mail made out of wool and a mustache, and is going to be used to blackmail me into killing the president of a South American island country while I go on a killing spree, taking out the the men involved, with a flight attendant as my sidekick, who just happens to know how to fly a plane, and ends with me throwing a pipe through the chain mail wearing man's chest. johnny-flores-blogspot.com

It'll give us more time with your daughter! Who knew what a little hose monster that little girl would grow up to be! Me and a friend double teamed her in my jeep outside the Viper Room in the mid 90's after doing a gram of coke.
-
You fuckin' whore.
-
Love this the film, and i LOVE THIS FUCKING SOUNTRACK. STEEL DRUMS should be used in all action movies
-
I always thought the drums worked. Or at least better than 48 hrs. Always made me think of Matrix in some bloodied south American country putting boot to Ass, but maybe just me.
-
Did you get that joke from cracked magazine? They had Bennett in it in chain mail with a tshirt saying "no I am not Freddy mercury on steroids." Still makes me laugh.
-
48 Hours/ Commando: exactly the same soundtrack. Ridiculous and infamous
-
JUST BODIES
-
They reused some of the music in Red Heat, the scene where our heroes follow the bad guys into the empty car park.

The most self-copying composer in film history? It's not 'you've heard one you've heard 'em all'. No, it's more like 'you've heard three of four and you've heard 'em all'.
-
It's so bombastic it draws way too much attention to itself, and I don't see how steel drums are appropriate for South America seeing as how they always make me think of Jamaica and such. I love Commando but Horner's score was always one of those things you have to kind of endure to enjoy the film. However, I could watch Ah-nold carry logs on his shoulder all day.
-
The VS edition a few years ago sold out so fast a lot of fans didn't get it (I'm raising my hand). It may not be quite as fast as those who purchased it from VS may not need LLL's version. Either way, it'll sell out soon.
-
that was such a typical 80s movie way to end things. didnt realize it was a power station song though, figured it was some one hit wonder...assuming the song was indeed popular.
-
Commando was a corny over the top 80's action flick but it was fun to watch because of Arnold's one liners. I think it's one of his more quotable movies.
-
World War III.
-
I listened to the main theme on Amazon and the music's bad, too. Why would anyone want to listen to that cheesy synth garbage?
-
Horner's stuff from the era sounded a lot alike with those steel drums, but its all good. Or maybe I'm thinking of Another 48 HRS. Oh yeah, that too.
-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FFQ_g8OoQM I think you'll agree it should be standard issue for all Commando related articles!
-
I met him at a convention once. Very nice guy.
-
but it's not the most important thing in your life right now. What is important, is graaavvvity.
-
...this is my weak arm."
-
Ordered mine moments ago.
-
come on Commando, seriously, that thing is just all steel drums and percussion, wheres a decent extended version of Willow!!!
-
I will protect you Nothing can hurt you No storm clouds gathering terrify I am a mountain Surrounded by your love You are a mountain that dreams are made of We fight for love We fight for love Fight for love Somewhere... somehow... someone Somewhere... somehow... someone I fight with fire As I watch them conspire To blow my world apart Between the light And the endless night You will always be in my heart We fight for love We fight for love Fight for love We fight for love Somewhere... somehow... someone Somewhere... somehow... someone

Is this score worthy, or just typical Horner phrase recycling + steel drums?
