Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Like anybody who has picked up a controller in the last 10 years I love me some Portal.
Young filmmaker Dan Trachtenberg, also known as host of The Totally Rad Show, has made a Portal fan film that is sweeping the internet after playing to ecstatic crowds at Comic-Con. The impressive thing about this short is that it shows just how amazing an action scene can look like if a Portal film was ever attempted.
Can you imagine if a higher budget CUBE-like Portal film was attempted? Of course, GLaDOS would have to be involved, but I think studios would be surprised just how much fertile dark humor/action is there to adapt into a feature film version.
If nothing else, Trachtenberg’s short shows that the iconography of the game can be adapted in the film medium to great results. I’d love it if this ended up snowballing into a real deal Portal movie. If that happens then I promise to give whichever studio exec greenlights the movie a nice piece of cake.
